January 6, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 30 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south-southwest breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. There is a dusting of snow on the grass and some black ice around – be aware. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 10 am. 🌡️

I rode the exercise bike for a while, having a late dinner with a pork roast in the oven. 🚲 The nice thing is I’ll have a good dinner again later in, maybe two hours earlier than today. I also went for my evening walk and caught up on the YouTube videos that I had downloaded. Yeah, I probably watch too many hours of Westin Champlain, mostly because I was watching a stupid tractor 🚜 video and I got hooked. Then there was that video about field dressing a deer. Never cut up anything that large 🔪but at least YouTube made it look easy. After reading that book 📙 on butchering it makes a whole lot more sense now. Meat science is fascinating 🍖, you really learn a lot more about what makes up an animal.

Tonight will have isolated snow showers between 1am and 2am. Partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 25 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 14th. Maximum wind chill around 22 at 3am; Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 14 degrees. The record low of -12 occurred back in 1878.

Tonight will have a Waxing 🌖 Moon with 84% illuminated. At dusk you’ll see the moon in the east-southeast (104Β°) at an altitude of 39Β° from the horizon, some 244,649 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀A bit farther away tonight. The Wolf 🐺 Moon is on Friday, January 10. Kind of pretty when I was out on my walk. The darkest hour is at 12:02 am, followed by dawn at 6:54 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:26 am in the east-southeast (121Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 23 seconds. Sunrise is 6 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 8:11 am with sun in the southeast (128Β°) at an altitude of 6Β°. Tonight will have 14 hours and 48 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 7 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have increasing clouds ☁, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 23rd. Calm wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 29 degrees. The record high of 56 was set in 1915. 7.2 inches of snow fell back in 1994.❄

I ordered a small USB hub from China to use with my laptop at work a month ago but it still hasn’t arrived. 🔌 I probably didn’t save much over ebay or even Walmart but I figured I could wait by the end I’m a bit frustrated about it now. Only two bucks and usually I have good luck with AliExpress but maybe not this time. Now that they are charging tax and shipping prices are going up on things from China thanks to Trump 🎺 I might not use them so much although it’s at still the best site for random, lightly packaged basic electronics components from China. I was thinking I should get out my soldering iron and do more electronics projects at home again.

In four weeks on February 3 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (248Β°) at 5:10 pm,🌄 which is 33 minutes and 52 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly cloudy weather, with mild temperatures between 45 and 31 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 32 and 15 degrees. The record high of 57 degrees was set back in 2016.

 America On A Sunny Morning

January 5, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 29 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 10 am. 🌡️ The moonlight is nice with the Wolf Moon 🐺 expected Friday.

Hiking in the Albany Pine Bush was delightful but cold. 🌲Pine Bush meeting was all business but that’s to be expected. I donated $100 towards their efforts to hire experts, I encourage you to also donate at RappRoadGoFundme.org. I normally don’t like to spend money 💵 that I don’t have to but fighting development in the Pine Bush is important and honestly I can afford it as I didn’t go to the Finger Lakes last week. I’m not planning any big trips in the coming weeks. It also looks like it will be relatively mild over the next few weeks, helping to save on the heating bills.

A lot of deer were out running by the road tonight. ⚠ Nice how much longer the nights have gotten lately though. I was surprised driving past Tommell Cattle 🐄 on Stove Pipe Road that the lots were empty. I had heard cattle prices were off so it might not be worthwhile for them to be fattening them up right now though. I used to remember how pungent those feedlots were as a kid. Grain can have a pretty strong smell when it rots. 🌾 I think it’s more often the spoiled grain then the manure which is really pungent on farms.

Had a nice ham dinner at the folks house. 🐷 As lately thanks to YouTube I have an obsession with all things pork, I also got a pork roast to cook later in the week or maybe Saturday. They’re pretty good although probably not as good as something you killed yourself. It’s kind of cool though the different worlds and places that YouTube can take you – from the large hog farm to the remote off grid cabin all while on the exercise bike. 🚲

My apartment still stinks from using the broiler. I think there is something that has run into the top of the oven to make it smell 👃I love how the broiler cooks the top of the food but not the smell the oven makes when it’s on. I have no problems with the normal oven. While I was on the bike watching YouTube earlier, I lit a candle to mask the smell which helped a bit. I rarely use candles as I know they are dangerous inside but I don’t like the energy consumption of the plug in models. 🔌 Honesty, when I own my own land if I’m off grid I’ll probably heat with wood and maybe use some oil lamps to supplement solar power in the winter, so fire safety is so important to always practice. ⚠

Tonight will have a chance of snow, mainly after 4am. Increasing clouds 🌨, with a low of 25 degrees at 1am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 14th. Saves on the heating bills. Maximum wind chill around 25 at 12am; Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of -19 occurred back in 1996.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon with 77% illuminated. At dusk you’ll see the moon in the east-southeast (118Β°) at an altitude of 44Β° from the horizon, some 247,186 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 Almost close enough today you could head up there for the weekend on your space ship. The Wolf 🐺 Moon is on Friday, January 10. Howl! The darkest hour is at 12:01 am, followed by dawn at 6:54 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:26 am in the east-southeast (121Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 23 seconds. Sunrise is 2 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 8:11 am with sun in the southeast (129Β°) at an altitude of 6Β°. Tonight will have 14 hours and 49 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 3 seconds over last night. Nights are definitely getting shorter now. I noticed quite a bit of light after 5 pm driving out to my parents house from Guilderland.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain and snow before 1pm, then a chance of rain between 1pm and 2pm, then a chance of rain and snow after 2pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a high of 39 degrees at 1pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 1st. Southeast wind 5 to 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Sounds like a bit of a sloppy commute tomorrow but bit a bit deal. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 2007. 12.7 inches of snow fell back in 2002.❄

In four weeks on February 2 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (248Β°) at 5:09 pm,🌄 which is 33 minutes and 32 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 32 and -2 degrees. That’s a pretty big range for a day, cold front come throughout. Typically, you have temperatures between 32 and 15 degrees. The record high of 53 degrees was set back in 1981. Ground Hog day ain’t real warm.

I keep watching what is happening in Iran. 💣It just seems like its going to be a disaster and at minimum it is going to greatly escalate gas prices β›½ and mean a whole bunch more taxpayer dollars 💵 wasted on security and war machines.

Well folks I better get to sleep. 💤Part of the reason I have been feeling a bit sick lately is I’ve been staying up too late. As much as I enjoy watching stupid YouTube videos of people chasing cows around 🐮 or chopping wood it’s time for bed. My headphones 🎧 were discharged too, another sign of bed time. I also watched an interesting video learning some new techniques for processing meat rabbits 🐰. A good night’s sleep is good being my best at work, demonstrating quality products for my clients, achieving results and ultimately making more money. 💵

Looking ahead, 5:30 PM Dusk 🌆 is in 3 weeks, Ground Hog Day 🐻 is in 4 weeks, Snow Moon 🌕 is in 5 weeks, March 🌨 is in 8 weeks, Daylight Savings Time 🌆 is in 9 weeks, Ides of March ✝ is in 10 weeks, Palm Sunday 🌴 is in 3 months, Easter 🐰 is in 14 weeks (rabbit is a healthy food), Cinco de Mayo 🤠 is in 4 months, Mothers Day 👩‍ is in 18 weeks, Pack Rat Day 🐀 is in 19 weeks, 8:30 PM Sunset ️⛱️ is in 5 months, Strawberry Moon 🌕 is in 22 weeks and Fathers Day 👨 is in 23 weeks.

Good evening! Cloudy and 34 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 1 am. β˜ƒοΈ

I walked 🚶 down to the library for a bit, got some videos on the laptop, 📹 rode the exercise bike for a while, 🚲 stocked up the refrigerator 🍲 and washed the truck. While I’ve been feeling awful sick at times today I did get everything I needed to get accomplished although I probably should have done more cleaning in the bathroom 🚽 and the kitchen. 🍜I also fixed a bunch more bugs 🐛 in the blog and worked on some miscellaneous projects.

January 3, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 38 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around 1 am. β˜ƒοΈ

I got home this evening and was feeling kind of sick again. 😩 Achy and tired. Not sure what’s wrong again and I should have made the doctors appointment today but I was busy and had a headache. Skipped my evening walk 🚶 although I did ride the exercise bike 🚲 for a while. I thought about going to the library but I’ll probably do that tomorrow. If it’s raining I’ll probably drive down to the library and go to the store after that. 🏪 I do need to get milk for my coffee β˜• tomorrow – I’m totally out of moo juice 🐮 right now.

One good thing was that my contact lenses arrived today. 👀 I was surprised they approved them as I was pretty sure my prescription was expired but I didn’t want to go to the eye doctor. I will go the next time I need contacts to the doctor to ensure my eyes are healthy but a yearly contact lens exam seems a bit excessive when I can see fine and my eyes aren’t irritated – plus the price had come down sufficiently on the contacts I wear that it’s a pretty big savings compared to the eye doctors co-pay and spending time with that pushy miserable business and then going work with dilated pupils unable to see anything in the office. 🏢

Tonight will have a chance of rain, mainly after 3am. Patchy fog before 3am, then patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, cloudy 🌧, with a low of 37 degrees at 5am. 22 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 13th. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of -15 occurred back in 1904.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon with 59% illuminated. At dusk you’ll see the moon in the south-southeast (149Β°) at an altitude of 47Β° from the horizon, some 250,920 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 Moon is a lot closer to earth 🌎 than last night. Well, at least 1,000 miles closer. The darkest hour is at 12:00 am, followed by dawn at 6:54 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:26 am in the east-southeast (121Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 24 seconds. Sunrise is 2 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 That’s good, finally getting more sun in the morning. The golden hour ends at 8:12 am with sun in the southeast (129Β°) at an altitude of 6Β°. Tonight will have 14 hours and 51 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 55 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain, mainly after 9am. Patchy fog before 9am. 🌧 High of 39 degrees at 12pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 1st. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became mostly clear by afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 1950. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 2003.❄

Should be a good day for washing my truck and going shopping 🏪 and maybe down to the library. 📚 Sunday definitely will be the best day of the weekend.

At least in the near future it looks like January will be a mild one ♨without much snow. Pattern could change before the end of winter but let’s be honest – once we get into February we can have bitterly cold weather but by the end of month it gets hard for the cold to stick around, especially as the sun angle increases as spring gets nearer.

In four weeks on January 31 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (247Β°) at 5:06 pm,🌄 which is 32 minutes and 46 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had cold, sunny and temperatures between 14 and -3 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 32 and 15 degrees. The record high of 58 degrees was set back in 1913.

I’ve so gotten into watching trapping videos online. 🐺 It is really a good way to make a little money 💵 in the woods while supporting healthy eco systems and maintaining a balance of wildlife. I am sure if I had my own land 🚜 and more of a place to clean and store pelts I would do a lot more. Maybe eventually when I own my off grid property.

I am tired 😴 and don’t feel great. 💤I should really get some sleep and be in no rush to get going tomorrow. And maybe going forward plan to get a sleep by ten 🔟.

Looking ahead, Wolf Moon 🌕 is in 1 weeks, Save the Pine Bush Turns 42 🦋 is in 5 weeks, Valentines Day ❀️ is in 6 weeks, 7 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 10 weeks, Spring 🌷 is in 11 weeks, Good Friday ✝️ is in 14 weeks, May 🕊 is in 17 weeks, 8:30 PM Sunset ️⛱️ is in 22 weeks, Election Day 2020 🗳️ is in 10 months.

January 3, 2020 8 AM Update

Good morning! Happy Latest Sunrise of the Winter 🌄️! Next Friday is Wolf Moon 🌕. Howl at that. 🐺 Mostly cloudy and 37 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. ☁ There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around 2 am. β˜ƒοΈ

Not a half bad morning but I’m glad it’s a Friday. With my time off from work and the New Years Eve holiday I’ve been staying up too late lately 😴 and not getting enough sleep at night. I had to kind of hurry out the door this morning 🚪 as I was running 🏃 late but I caught the express bus 🚍 in time. There is a traffic light 🚦 out on the Delmar bypass and they have cops 👮 out there monitoring and directing traffic.

Today will have a slight chance of showers between 10am and 5pm. Cloudy 🌦, with a high of 45 degrees at 3pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 17th. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Another day of mid March weather. Probably at least in Madison County more mud and manure spreading 💩 as things are still free of snow. So much mud out that way. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became mostly clear by afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1913. 12 inches of snow fell back in 2003.❄

Today if should make an appointment for the doctor 😷 to figure out what the next step is with the Lyme which I’m still struggling to get over. Or maybe it’s a different condition but it sure feels like what I had after that tick bite. 🎯

Also continuing to research counseling services with my health insurance and also trying to put together a one pager 📄 of things I’d like to discuss. I got interested in this after listening to the Terry Gross interview of Howard Stern and then also the Lifekit podcast. I feel like if I got better at managing my emotions at times I could be a lot better at work, get better promotions and make more money. 💵

At times I feel like I’m getting old 👴 with all the gray hair popping up and I don’t want too many doors to close before deciding on my future. 🔮 It is 2020 now and I really got to start taking better control of my body 🚵before it’s too late. A little over three years from now I’ll be forty. I see so many people doing cool things on YouTube, 📹 living a life that I can only dream of today 💭 and I don’t want to pass up future 🔮 life choices before it’s too late. While I don’t think that the Lyme disease will continue to impact my life in the long run its kind of a wake up call 📞 now that’s its 2020 ⏰ and stiff knees and aches aren’t fun while I’m not that old yet.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 24.5Β° from the due south horizon (-46.3Β° vs. 6/21). The sun angle continues to improve steadily this time of year, but it will be a lot more noticeable once it gets into the forties on sunny days. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 3:49 pm with the sun in the southwest (231Β°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (239Β°) starting at 4:31 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 23 seconds with dusk around 5:05 pm, which is 53 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 5:42 pm. At sunset, look for clouds with a chance of rain 🌧 and temperatures around 45 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 8 minutes of daytime, an increase of 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 11pm, then a chance of showers after midnight. Patchy fog after 9pm. Otherwise, cloudy 🌧, with a low of 35 degrees at 6am. 20 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 8th.

Tomorrow will rain before 4pm, then rain and snow. 🌧 High of 39 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 1st. Light north wind. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became mostly clear by afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 1950. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 2003.❄

Tomorrow I’ll probably wash my truck and get groceries. 🏪 I am getting pretty low on food and supplies 🍲. I also need to look at getting some milk 🐮 tonight or tomorrow as I only got a half gallon of milk when I was going out On New Year’s Eve to camp. β›Ί

Looking ahead to Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 33. β›… Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Typical average high for the weekend is 31 degrees. That night be the best day of the weekend but still a bit cool with the wind but mild by early January standards.

The plan for Sunday remains the Pine Bush meeting 🌲🌳and maybe some pre-gaming in the form of a hike in the Pine Bush. Then Sunday dinner at folks house. They’re having ham for dinner. 🐽

Honestly I doubt I will be getting back out for an overnight in the wilderness β›Ί for at least a few more weeks. I think it’s going to be mild and rainy the next few weeks – and I have things to do locally and then it will get bitterly cold ❄. We can’t make it through winter without one major outbreak of the cold.

🌹🌻🌼Only 76 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

Such a count down ⏳reminds us there is hope although it will be done before you know it, with black fly season 🐜 underway thrn summer and autumn. 🍂It keeps coming around and we’re just one step towards the future 🔮 which over before it begins.

As previously noted, next Friday is Wolf Moon 🌕 when the sun will be setting at 4:41 pm with dusk at 5:12 pm. On that day in 2019, we had snow showers, partly sunny and temperatures between 32 and 24 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 30 degrees. We hit a record high of 55 back in 2016.
