January 30, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 23 degrees in Delmar, NY. β›… There is a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around noontime. 🌡️

Not a half cold evening for the end of January. 🚶 I went for my evening walk pretty late tonight around 9 pm. Lately been going out much earlier. But I’ll still have enough time for a good night’s sleep. I’m looking forward to the nights being warm enough to sit out back especially before the bugs get bad. I think I will do a lot more reading 📖 out back.

I didn’t spend any time reading 📖 it or working on typing the labels for John Wolcott 🔖 as I promised myself I would. John has a bit of a cold and so do I have some minor symptoms so I don’t want to get him sicker. Once I get the labels typed I’ll ask Lynne Jackson to see if she can print them. That said, she’s very busy with fighting the Crossgates Mall Apartment complex now that the DEIS is posted – I’m doing some of the research but I’m no expert nor do I know how to find appropriate experts. But others know how to do that. I can just raise my voice, kick in a few bucks and help with a little GIS analysis.

I made fish sticks 🐠 and veggies for dinner in the oven. Good enough for a change from pasta. I rode the exercise bike 🚲 for a while, watched a little YouTube video I had downloaded and worked on some code. I keep telling myself that I should get out my soldering iron and build some electronics. 🔬 I like building shit but I’m so bad at soldering. I should learn wire wrapping.

Dentist visit went well today.🦷 No dental health issues, except I should floss more regularly. I need to buy newer floss, the stuff I have is like ten plus years old and comes apart when I use it. I did have a burn on my gums from pasta I made up earlier in the week. 🍝 I credit my teeth health to all the milk I drink and how don’t have candy 🍬 or soda at home and only beer rarely when I camp. 🍻

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 16 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 6th. Maximum wind chill around 20 at 1am; South wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to -3 degrees. The record low of -26 occurred back in 1948.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon with 32% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the west-southwest (255Β°) at an altitude of 20Β° from the horizon, some 251,389 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 8th. Buckle up for safety! 💺 The moon will set in the west (274Β°) at 10:51 pm. The Snow ❄ Moon is on Sunday, February 9.

The darkest hour is at 12:09 am, followed by dawn at 6:43 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:13 am in the east-southeast (114Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 10 seconds. Sunrise is 58 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 7:55 am with sun in the east-southeast (121Β°). Tonight will have 14 hours and 5 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 18 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 23rd. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 14 degrees. The record high of 58 was set in 1913. 6.9 inches of snow fell back in 2000.❄

It should be interesting to play β–Ά with that little six dollar mini camera 🎥 I got on Ali Express. I think it will be very useful if I can use it plugged into the charger and just record video anytime it senses motion. We’ll see how it works, it’s not a big investment. So many little tiny mini and spy cameras on the AliExpress – you really have no idea when somebody might be recording you. And they’re so cheap too – some are even hidden in USB charging hubs, fake dice 🎲 and even pens βœ’ – and they’re only a few bucks. All kinds of audio recorders too.

Thinking 💭 a little about spring time trips β›Ί – I’d like to do Stoney Pond in Morrisville then drive south to Chenango County and maybe Long Pond in April. Things could and probably will change though. I would probably get away mid April maybe before things green up and the bugs are out.

I am still thinking about using the birthday and Christmas money 💵 I got from my parents to get an enclosed picnic tent 🎪 – that would really help to make Memorial Day Weekend with the black flies and any modestly rainy days in the woods much more enjoyable. I got to read up on it – probably too late for the end of season sales now and I doubt things will be on sale again right away so it’s no rush. When camping it would be nice to be able to sit out on a rainy or buggy day and not be trapped in my little camp tent or truck cap.

In four weeks on February 27 the sun will be setting in the west (259Β°) at 5:41 pm,🌄 which is 36 minutes and 16 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had snow and temperatures between 15 and 8 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 38 and 20 degrees. The record high of 61 degrees was set back in 1997.

Looking ahead, Save the Pine Bush Turns 42 🦋 is in 1 week, 5:30 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 3 weeks and Flower Moon 🌕 is in 14 weeks.

🇺🇸🦅Only 16 weeks remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!🦅🇺🇸

January 30, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Getting my teeth cleaned this morning.🦷 Lucky me. Next Thursday Save the Pine Bush Turns 42 🦋. Been a long time since Dick Patrick and Mayor Erastus Corning had their public hearing on the Lone Pine Development during the 1978 blizzard when all of state government was shut down but not the city’s planning board hearing at the old Herman Bleecker library downtown. 🌲

Bright and sunny and 18 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 Calm wind. 🍃 Things will start to thaw out at around 1 pm. 🌡️ Without the wind and the bright sun pushing thirty degrees altitude by noon time, not too bad. Indeed the latest forecast predicts weather a few degrees above normal by late afternoon. ♨ Seems like the old heater has kept up fine in my apartment and it’s quite comfortable inside. That said, I think I’ll drive to the dentist just because if I miss the bus I can either drive home or wait inside my truck for the next bus 🚍 so I’m not stuck out in the cold ❄.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 35 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 15th. Light and variable wind. I’ll take that for late January. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 28 degrees. The record high of 56 was set in 2013. 11 inches of snow fell back in 1966.❄

Hopefully I’ll survive my dentist appointment. 🦷 I really should floss more and I am a bad person for that but I do brush my teeth regularly and the past few years I’ve been getting biyearly cleanings so hopefully I won’t be buck tooth too soon. I haven’t been drinking as much milk lately 🐮 – maybe a gallon a week in favor of apple juice 🍏 which is terrible for my teeth but I get tired of milk and apple juice at least is healthier than beer or soda. I do drink a lot of florinated water 💦 too. I support science and urban water florination and yes the milk I drink is pasteurized as I don’t own my own cow 🐮 and it only takes a little amount of bacteria of the wrong type in the bulk tank to make you very sick, and despite the iodine teat dip and properly stripping teats, cows do lay in the grass, mud and manure all day.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 29.6Β° from the due south horizon (-41.2Β° vs. 6/21). I’m thinking tomorrow will be thirty degrees noontime altitude but only if it’s sunny out will it matter much. I heard the mercury could teach fifty on Monday and The golden hour 🏅 starts at 4:24 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (239Β°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (246Β°) starting at 5:03 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 10 seconds with dusk around 5:35 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter 🌓 Moon in the south-southwest (204Β°) at an altitude of 47Β° from the horizon, 251,535 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 6:10 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around the freezing point. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 16 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 17 degrees at 6am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 11th. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Works for me. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to -3 degrees. The record low of -26 occurred back in 1948.

I briefly checked the fluids in my truck and they’re all good. β›½ I haven’t had to add oil since the November oil change at the dealership. I’ve also noticed that the lifter that was clicking has stopped. Maybe the sludge in the engine has fixed the problem. I do doing synthetic oil changes and lately been going to the dealer with the long hours and good price for regular maintenance. Maybe I will be able to get several more years out of the truck. I still will need to get new 35 inch tires probably at the end of the year and probably an alignment and that ain’t cheap but it’s been six years by the end of next year since I jacked up my truck. 🚘

Nothing to celebrate this weekend except maybe the Ground Hawg not seeing his shadow. 🐻 Saturday, a slight chance of snow showers before noon, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers between noon and 1pm, then a slight chance of rain showers after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. ☁ Typical average high for the weekend is 32 degrees.

🌹🌻🌼Only 49 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

49 days of winter left, 49 days of winter left. Take one down, pass it around….

As previously noted, next Thursday is Save the Pine Bush Turns 42 🦋 when the sun will be setting at 5:14 pm with dusk at 5:44 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain and temperatures between 37 and 25 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 55 back in 1991.

Good evening! Clear and 20 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. The current wind chill is 8. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at Friday around 11 am. 🌡️

It was pretty bitterly cold ❄ after going out with some of my colleagues after work and having some drinks and wings 🍻 and then waiting for the bus to go home. 🚍 The 49 cent wings – ten for $4.90 are a great deal 🍗 and are really good tasting at Public House 42. Plus my colleagues picked up the tab for my birthday 🎂 which was really nice of them to do. I offered to pay but they were really nice. I don’t go out much but it was nice especially at the new Pinto and Hobbs where it was pretty quiet. I hate drinking beer where the crowds and noise are so loud you can’t hear a person five feet away. Even Public House 42 was pretty quiet, they were playing Peter Paul and Mary for a walk.

Tonight will be clear 🌃, with a low of 6 degrees at 4am. Nine degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -1 at 5am; North wind 3 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 1 degrees. The record low of -12 occurred back in 1965.

There was at least one if not two homeless people on the street last night at the bus stop. 🚏Seemed like an awful cold night to be on the street. I’ve spent a few single digit nights in the wilderness in the single digits but that’s with warm clothes, a rip roaring fire 🔥 and my propane heater in a hot tent 🎪. The homeless action network was giving out blankets and tarps to the people and probably asking them if they wanted to go to the shelter. One was asking if anybody had keys 🔑 or a knife🔪 to open 🔓 the bag that they were blanket they got came in. I said no because I didn’t know if my key would be sharp enough and I didn’t want to have it stolen and not be able to get in my own house. 🏡 The guy flagged down the homeless van and got in any they helped him open it.

Just reminds me how privileged I am even if it seems like I have very little money 💵 in my bank account at the end of the month. My rent check was withdrawn yesterday. That’s good, I hopefully won’t get evicted for at least another month. 🏡 Done so much damage to my landlords building 🏢 although not all of it is my fault – it’s had moisture problems since I moved in and things were old and thread bare ready to wear through. Plus my muddy boots and gear didn’t help. That said, over the past 12 1/2 years I’ve paid like $80k in rent, always on time and only called the landlord over a handful of times. 💰The rent check cleared while I was drinking to remind me how poor I truly am.💸 At least it was my birthday.

Tonight will have 14 hours and 7 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 16 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 32 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around January 31st. Light and variable wind. With the sun it will feel even warmer. Next week might be closer to 50 on Monday. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 28 degrees. The record high of 56 was set in 2013. 11 inches of snow fell back in 1966.❄

Tooth cleaning appointment in the morning. 🦷 I should have done a better job at flossing over the past six months but I’ve been busy and I’m sure I’ll get yelled out gently by my dental hygienist. He’s actually a good guy and very friendly and just tries to nudge me to better dental health. Figuring I didn’t take care of my teeth for a long time it’s good I’m at least getting regular cleanings now.

In four weeks on February 26 the sun will be setting in the west (259Β°) at 5:40 pm,🌄 which is 36 minutes and 19 seconds later then tonight. After I got home I researched the Rensselaer Biotech facility that is supposed to be one of those mechanical biological treatment facilities 🚮that shreds mixed garbage and supposedly breaks it down into compostable materials and recoverable metals. I think the biggest concern is it will process mixed waste rather than source separated organics. I’d rather see much higher prices on mixed waste and that sent to landfills with a priority on source separated organics recovery and dual stream recycling. β™» Having more bins is a pain but it may be necessary for clean waste recovery.

Good morning! Happy 37th Birthday to me 🎉! Yeah, I’m getting old 👴 and honestly when your in your late thirties it gets hard to remember how old you are because the difference isn’t great. Old enough to buy Budwiser 🍻 at the corner store and shop at the gun store 🔫 but too young for social security and Medicare by three decades. Three weeks to February Save the Pine Dinner 🠼񲰮 It’s their 42nd birthday celebration and they’re still bulldozing the Pine Bush for more suburbanites housing.

Partly cloudy and 29 degrees in Delmar, NY. β›… The sun is kind of pretty this morning, it’s like that picture I posted with the clouds and the tree yesterday. Not too cold either for late January but this month has been one of the warmest on record, especially the nights. There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at around 11 am. 🌡️

Looking out at the Norman’s Kill from the Delaware Avenue Bridge 🌉. It is pretty with the sunlight in this morning. Listening to John Denver and Farewall Andromeda. Welcome to my morning. I was up pretty early to take a poop 💩 and I made coffee β˜• which was strong 💪. Strong coffee though is a lot like what the Love of the Land said about hay, cattle and manure. β™» Regardless, it’s a nice morning and I’m going to make the most of my day to advance my future.

As much as I want to move on beyond Albany to a place like a Missouri or the west, where there is a lot more cheaper land and less government 🌆 I’m quite fine with doing my best in Albany for my future. I really doubt I’ll be in Albany beyond age 50 because as much as I like the money 💵 and the promise of a good pension (if I ever return back to government service) there is a lot of the world left to explore 🌍 and places to live where the people and their government agree 👍 more with my values. I’m no conservative but I do look forward to a change beyond the limited horizons of New York. I watch too many videos off off gridders and cattle farmers on the YouTube. 📹

Today will be mostly cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing 🌞, with a high of 35 degrees at 1pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 15th. Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 30 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 2 pm. 🌡️ Going to be kind of cool tomorrow it seems. Or actually closer to seasonable.

Marconi and cheese this dinner with broccoli and tomato chunks in it. 🍲 A pretty good dinner. Fixed the hole in the pocket of my overcoat – it had allowed a few times for my keys 🔑 to slip into the back pocket. Neighbors are home 🏡 tonight and it’s a fairly nice night so I skipped riding the exercise bike in favor of the evening walk. 🚶 Nice walk, ice free and not too cold or wet. Finished up reading 📖 Murdock’s World about the FoxMedia empire. 📰

I’m trying to devote at least 45 minutes a night to reading as I know it’s as important to a healthy life πŸ™„ as riding the exercise bike. I got to work more on limiting my portion sizes for food 🐽but I always try to have a lot of veggies with each meal 🌽 and fruit in morning. 🍒 I don’t have snacks at home besides fruit and for beverages it’s flavored water or apple juice. 🍏

So yeah, tomorrow is my birthday 🎂. One’s 37 birthday is hardly a milestones, it’s just one day closer to owning my own land and eventually retiring 🏡. But that’s still many years off but a focus on a long term goal is good as it encourages me to save 💰and consume less and make less waste. β™» This next year I plan to stay the course and continue to expand my knowledge and my horizons as I look toward a better tomorrow. Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Final full day I’m 36 years old. Tomorrow at 5:28 am or something like that according to my birth certificate, which is handwritten but not fake, I’ll be 37. Two weeks to Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day πŸ₯›. I don’t know, rancid milk can be pretty pungent πŸ‘ƒ, says the dirty hick that I am. πŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎ Cloudy in Trump’s America and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY, as I take the old hybrid bus from 2010 downtown. ☁ There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. πŸƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 6 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

Yes, I learned my lesson from yesterday and took the earlier bus 🚍 downtown. Its a bit annoying because this bus gets me to work much earlier than necessary but at least I won’t clock in late πŸ•’ and then have to stay late to get my seven and a half in. It’s tough with the 20 minute headway on the bus 🚏, I preferred it when they had the 15 minute headway but they’re wasn’t enough ridership to justify that level of service during the morning rush hour.

I was a bit worried I was getting a cold again 😷 after hearing John Wolcott was feeling sick again but I’m okay this morning. I sure hope I don’t get sick any time soon. I try to be a lot better washing my hands, but it can be difficult to do good handwashing practices.

Today will have isolated snow showers before 11am. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 38 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 26th. Northwest wind 8 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 22 degrees. The record high of 56 was set in 1916. 9.6 inches of snow fell back in 1897.❄

This morning I realized that I forgot to get pan spray 🍳 the last time I was at the store but I have my dentist appointment on Thursday so I’ll get it then. Kind of essential for making waffles. I think I will drive to the dentist just based on the timing of things. I also wanted to get another set of Bluetooth headphones 🎧 and more drain solvent so I had plenty in stock the last time I went to Wally World but they didn’t have it in stock..

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 29.1Β° from the due south horizon (-41.7Β° vs. 6/21). Adding sun angle quickly at this point, so when we get a bright sunny day it’s bound not to be quite as cold out as only a few weeks ago. You saw the February average high chart πŸ“Š I posted yesterday – it’s a steady climb through March.

The golden hour πŸ… starts at 4:21 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (238Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (246Β°) starting at 5:00 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 11 seconds with dusk around 5:33 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent πŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (222Β°) at an altitude of 31Β° from the horizon, 252,182 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:07 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies ☁ and temperatures around 35 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 49 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 12 seconds over yesterday. Definitely getting longer.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 22 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 4th. Maximum wind chill around 12 at 6am; Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 5 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1925.

While Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be quite nice, clouds and some rain or snow showers for the weekend. β˜” Saturday, a chance of snow showers before 1pm, then a chance of rain showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 32 degrees. At least another mild weekend is on tap, good for the heating bills. The woods might be super sloppy again this weekend after the rain but maybe I can road hike at Partridge Run or maybe in the Albany Pine Bush where the sand rarely gets muddy.

🌹🌻🌼Only 51 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

Good evening! Cloudy and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. The current wind chill is 24. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 11 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

Not a half bad day, relatively quiet at work. 💼 As I was in late according to the time clock 🕒 I had to wait until 5:08 to clock out. Which was fine but also super pointless as I probably spent most of the final eight minutes staring at the clock because it was too late to really get started on the project that dropped on my desk five minutes to five. I did manage to catch the express bus back home 🚍 but for some reason it seemed so pokey with the traffic 🚦, especially past the lane restriction by the Capitol but the whole commute was sluggish, probably because I’m used to catching the express from Peter Kieran Plaza as it gets onto Water Street and the expressway. But that wasn’t going to happen as I had to stay late to make the time clock happy. πŸ™‚ Needless to say I’m going to get to work earlier tomorrow.

I am cooked up a big pan of tuna fish 🐠 salad up 🍲. Probably not the healthiest meal 🍴 ever with all that mercury rich tuna and fatty mayonnaise but oh so good. It did have nearly 3/4 lb of broccoli in it and lately I’ve been eating like four pounds of broccoli a week 🌿 so you gotta pick your fights. I rode the bike 🚲 for a hour or two after. Finished off the mayonnaise and I had to wash out the jar for recycling. What a pain. I tell you when I own land out in the country, things like that are prime candidates for the burn barrel to clean up. 🔥 Recycling is good, especially in the cities where there is lots of people and lots of garbage β™» but it can be such a pain in the ass compared to tossing it in a fire.

Its a pretty mild evening when I went out for my evening walk earlier. 🚶 Certainly really cloudy though. ☁ I also rode the exercise bike 🚲 for an hour or two while cooking dinner than listening to music 🎶 and then watched the latest from Arms Family Homestead with them birthing goats 🐐 – “wife is coming home soon….. I got to wash the after birth off my hands 👐 before I cook dinner.” Now that’s a line, knowing how livestock after birth can smell. Maybe he should have taken a shower 🚿 too. I really enjoy watching YouTube and learning about farm life from birthing and preg testing through butchering. 🚜

Regardless I got home and read 📖 for 45 minutes before killing the lights. πŸ’‘ Almost done with that book on the News Corp that I’m reading. I do keep my room dim at night but now it’s completely dark with the goal of being completely asleep by ten 🔟.

That kind of sucks. ☁ While this winter has been quite mild the sun hadn’t shown all that much. I guess it doesn’t matter that much in my basement office 🏢 but it still is pretty dreary, especially on the weekends.

In four weeks on February 24 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (258Β°) at 5:38 pm,🌄 which is 36 minutes and 25 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 42 and 34 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 37 and 19 degrees.
