January 27, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Gotta make that money ๐Ÿ’ต although not a pay week this week but I have great faith I’ll be paid next week. Two weeks to Clean Your Computer Day ๐Ÿงน. With there being so much hard drive space these days, does anybody really have to clean their computer? ๐Ÿ’ป

Snow flurries, cloudy, gray, damp and 36 degrees at the Valero just waiting for the bus to take me to work. โ„ Calm wind. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around noontime. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Catching the later bus ๐Ÿš to work because I never know with this busย and having to punch ๐Ÿ‘Š the clock ๐Ÿ•’ on time each morning. The truth is with manually filled in time cards you could get away with being a few minutes late and nobody would ever know. ๐Ÿ’ I did set my alarm for 6:30 but I reset it a few times. I’m bad I know and I had to iron my shirt ๐Ÿ‘š. But I did have a nice pan of eggs ๐Ÿณ for breakfast, one of the last of the fresh ones from my parents, as some kind of varmint finished off their chickens ๐Ÿ” and they don’t want to have chickens now as they’re planning on spending the summer traveling. ๐Ÿšข

I am sure the solar panel will keep all the batteries 🔋 well charged with the higher sun angle 📐and the ample sun this week.🌞 On Saturday the batteries were well enough charged that the alternator shut off and ran entirely off the batteries for a short period of time like it will after an extended period driving. It should work great come the summer during an extended period of camping at one campsite in the woods.

Mom and Dad gave me a $100 check for my birthday 🎂. I am thinking about getting an enclosed canopy to use for camping, especially during black fly season on Memorial Day Weekend or during other extended trips when we might have rain โ˜” or bad bugs. It would be nice to have a protected area on a buggy or rainy day to camp be outdoors with a book, a meal or just listening to a podcast and not be trapped in the truck cap. It looks like they range from around $200 to $300 but they are quite popular out camping it seems and it would be great for extended weekends camping. That said, this year with work it might not be an issue – not sure if I’ll be able to get out of town for Memorial Day Weekend. But maybe for summer vacation?

Also this year I think I want to do more back country camping. โ›บ As much as I like truck cap camping with all the gear I have such a craving to do more nights in the wilderness alone. I want to do more different things this summer, I always camp in the same places year after year and it gets kind of boring 💤.

Good evening! Rain and 40 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. The rain has done a number on the snow. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 6 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ It could have been a pretty good snow storm but too warm.

It was a nice Pine Bush Hike with three present. โ˜ Kind of a dreary day for the Pine Bush hike. Just not a lot of sun but at least the rain held off. 🚶 Lots of nice views especially down by Willow Street. Knee is bothering me a bit again though. Got home, did some reading and riding on the exercise bike 🚲. Almost done with that book I’m reading 📖 on Rupert Murdock. Watched a little bit of the YouTube I downloaded. Made a big pot of pasta with veggies and meatballs for lunch, pollished off the rest for dinner. 🍝Road the exercise bike for over an hour maybe closer to two this evening.

The funeral for Chet was nice with 75 people there according to one of the ushers. 👪 Ran the gammot of folks from rural Fulton County in the Adirondacks where he grew up to DOT workers and sportsman he knew to folks from Save the Pine Bush. Nice celebration of a man who did so much for the community from all the work he did at the Sacandaga Conservation Association to helping children in Ghana through the Westminster Presbyterian Church to Save the Pine Bush. 🌲So many stories will go on told but I learned a lot from him during the Pine Bush dinners and hikes over the years. He was quite healthy and lived a good life until his sudden death at age 73 due to puemonia probably he contracted after black powder hunting in the Adirondacks this past autumn. 🍳 He was still getting up most days at 4:30 to help feed the several hundred homeless persons at the churches breakfast program several days a week.

I probably should run to the store and pick up a few more supplies 🏬 but I don’t need all that much this week for shopping. I might wash the remaining salt off my truck tomorrow as the salt is washed off the roads and I don’t expect any more to be applied tomorrow. Might be too muddy to hike anywhere but the rail trail tomorrow.

Rode the exercise bike 🚲 for about an hour, watching Keith Fink Farm’s latest video, catching up on NB88 off grid cabin in Maine and Andrew Camara tearing apart a pickup truck for the engine and the scrap metal. I went over to John Wolcott house 🏡 for a few hours this evening, sorting files 📂. I had a very interesting conversation with him about Fort Orange and Interstate 787, I wish I had recorded it. 📼 I’m sure there are many audio recording apps that I could download. Had a quick burrito for dinner 🍣and then sat back in bed finishing off the book I was reading 📖 on Storm Lake Iowa and moved on to reading a book about the history of Rupert Murdock’s media empire.

Besides going to bed earlier and getting up early, I’ve tried to make reading a much higher priority this year 📚. I plan to go to the park much more this year once it gets nice and also read out back more.

Been such a busy week for me 💼 but at least tomorrow is Friday. Getting to bed earlier and getting up earlier seems to have helped a lot with my sleep, even if it does seem a bit odd to be getting up on Saturday before dawn. But I feel so much more rested at work. That’s good. Saturday is the Save the Pine Bush Hike that I’m leading at 9:30 🚶 then the No War with Iran protest 🐦 at 11 am which I want to do but I’m not sure if the hike will be done by then and it might be wet. Chet’s Wake is at 3 pm and I probably should put on my suit and black tie 👔and attend that.

Busy day at work, went to the Guilderland Planning Board meeting, 💼 picked up a few groceries and drain cleaner. I decided to stay home tonight, ride the exercise bike 🚲 for a while, have some dinner and read 📖. There are other things that I could have done but I was tired 😴 and decided to call it a night early. Almost done reading that book on Storm Lake Iowa. 🌽 Reminds me a lot of the colorful people I knew growing up in a small town.

Sink seems to have freed itself up but I’m going to avoid using it and will go out tomorrow and get more drain solvent after the Guilderland Planning Board meeting I’m attending. No need to make multiple trips. 🛀 I got a little paranoid when I opened my mailbox 📬and saw an add for a plumber – they’re reading my blog – and marketing to me but the truth is I only mentioned it in the morning and it came as a large flat in the bulk mail. At any rate, if it was a serious problem I’d call my landlord 📞 and he’d have it fixed quickly. Nice thing about renting although the plumbing is constantly problematic here.

It really kills me how much paper garbage I get in my mailbox 📮 every day. Yeah, I have a milk crate where I toss all the non confidential paper trash into and I take it to the recycling dumpster at the park and ride โ™ป every few weeks but by then the bin usually is already overflowing in my apartment and the paper recycle dumpster is pretty full most of the time too. And while they pulp and recycle the waste fiber a lot of it still ends as residue taken to the Colonie landfill. Recycling produces a lot of waste too. Even if I heat with wood when I eventually own my off grid property and use paper every night to start the fire I’ll always have an unlimited supply of waste paper for starting the wood stove just from the junk mail. 🔥 And half of that mail โœ‰ is the glossy stuff that is half clay and produces a ton of ash when burnt and is not good with the glossy coating to burn inside in a woodstove. I guess that the burn barrel can take care of it when I have my own land but it seems like such a waste to cut down all those trees just to burn off the carbon for no real reason. At least no Time Warner Cable ad today but I’m sure there will be one tomorrow.
