Good evening! Cloudy with a few snow flurries around and 36 degrees in Delmar,. NY. ❄ There is a north breeze at 14 mph. πŸƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 1 am. β˜ƒοΈ

Stayed home, worked on some minor issues on the blog and did some reading πŸ“–. Finished off the last container of leftovers I have in the freezer. 🍲 Definitely have to go shopping tomorrow. Going to set my clocks ahead tonight so I can practice getting up earlier this weekend as that first Monday after the time change is never fun. 😴

Tonight will be scattered rain and snow showers before midnight, then scattered snow showers between midnight and 4am. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 27 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 19th. North wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 4 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1950.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous πŸŒ– Moon with 91% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the south (181Β°) at an altitude of 68Β° from the horizon, some 230,565 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. πŸš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 28th. Not too far away but not a super moon but you better bring a GPS for safety. Buckle up even in the rear seat for safety! πŸ’Ί The Worm πŸ› Moon is on Monday, March 9. The darkest hour is at 12:08 am, followed by dawn at 5:55 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:23 am in the east (97Β°) and last for 2 minutes and 55 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 40 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ„ Spring is coming, alas the due east sunrise. The golden hour ends at 7:01 am with sun in the east-southeast (103Β°). Tonight will have 12 hours and 28 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny 🌞, with a high of 41 degrees at 2pm. Typical for Tomorrow. North wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Should be a nice day but blustery. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 26 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1974. 10.3 inches of snow fell back in 1967.❄

Tomorrow morning plan to get up bright and early β˜€ and walk out to Five Rivers. Hopefully it won’t be too cold with the wind πŸƒ. I can always bundle up and the sun will help with the higher angle.

In four weeks on April 3 the sun will be setting in the west (278Β°) at 7:24 pm (Daylight Savings Time),πŸŒ„ which is one hour, 32 minutes and 33 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 62 and 32 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 53 and 33 degrees. The record high of 79 degrees was set back in 1981.

Still struggling to get my blog to update properly. πŸ“ Seems like something is wrong with the app. I will have to explore it more to figure out what is going on although I have some ideas. Sometimes the WordPress app is just funky. Yes, I use WordPress as the back end for my blog. I am a cheater.

Looking ahead, 7 PM Sunset πŸŒ† is in 1 weeks, Spring 🌷 is in 2 weeks, Good Friday ✝️ is in 5 weeks, May πŸ•Š is in 8 weeks and 8:30 PM Sunset ️⛱️ is in 13 weeks.

Still Some Deeper Snow In Parts

March 6, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is 7 PM Sunset πŸŒ†. Partly cloudy and 30 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. β›… There is a east-southeast breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. A pretty decent morning although clouds are already pushing in.

Taking a well running but old hybrid bus 🚍 to work today. I really like it when they run the hybrid buses on the express route as they ride really smoothly in highway speed driving πŸš₯ especially when they slow at the traffic lights. It’s not a hard stop β›” like with the normal air brakes. Looking forward to seeing more electric buses in the future.

Today will have a chance of light rain, mainly after 5pm. Mostly cloudy 🌞, with a high of 47 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 22nd. Northeast wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 22 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1974. 10.5 inches of snow fell back in 1887.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 42Β° from the due south horizon (-28.9Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 5:14 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (257Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (264Β°) starting at 5:49 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:19 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full 🌝 Moon in the east (100Β°) at an altitude of 42Β° from the horizon, 230,904 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:53 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers 🌧 and temperatures around 45 degrees. Not a half bad Friday night – although next week will be Daylight Savings Time so the evenings will be even nicer. There will be a northeast breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday. Not long before more day than night.

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow showers before 9pm, then a chance of snow showers between 9pm and 1am. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 24 degrees at 6am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 11th. North wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 4 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1950.

Today in 1857, Supreme Court of the United States rules in the Dred Scott v. Sandford case. 🏫150 years later the Republicans still talk about it and Democrats just point out what a terrible decision it was in the context of slavery, that particular institution that lead to a war. I can see both sides of the debate, I think sometimes people aren’t as open minded about at is as they should be.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny 🌞, with a high of 40 degrees at 3pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 5th. North wind 10 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 26 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1974. 10.3 inches of snow fell back in 1967.❄

Tomorrow I plan to hike out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center 🐸 bright and early. β˜€ Then organize my camping gear. πŸ•Then maybe go to Schodack Island State Park and finally buy groceries at Aldis in the evening πŸ› and wash my truck 🧽 and do some cleaning at home.

Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 57. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming west in the morning. Don’t forget to set your clocks back, Sunday will fly by especially with such spring like weather. Typical average high for the weekend is 41 degrees.

Sunday morning I am joining some people for a walk in the Albany Pine Bush. 🚢 I might go right after that up to Thacher Park for another walk, maybe wearing my muck boots so my feet don’t get totally soaked up there, although they aren’t all that great for any kind of hiking, but they do keep my feet dry. Then out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. I wonder if they are doing barbecue? πŸ” Might be nice enough for that.

🌹🌻🌼Only 13 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼 Less then two weeks until it’s officially the equinox and we can start thinking about mud 🐽 and nicer weather maybe.

As previously noted, next Friday is 7 PM Sunset πŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 6:59 pm with dusk at 7:27 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, sleet and temperatures between 44 and 21 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 43 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 2012.

March 5, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear at the freezing point in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. A pretty good evening for early March. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 7 am. 🌡️

This evening I pushed forward most of the code to make the new parts of the blog working. 💻 The aerial photo 📷 comparison component will be launched in the morning, check β˜‘ it out tomorrow.

I avoided going to the store for yet another day 🏬 but I’ll figure out how to make sue through Saturday. I want to eat up more at home so I can make it through the spring time money 💵 crunch with taxes and the big car insurance bill.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 29 degrees at 4am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. Calm wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 9 degrees. The record low of -21 occurred back in 1948.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous 🌔 Moon with 83% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the southwest (216Β°) at an altitude of 67Β° from the horizon, some 232,968 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 29th. The record high of 63 was set in 1974. 10.5 inches of snow fell back in 1887.❄

In four weeks on April 2 the sun will be setting in the west (278Β°) at 7:23 pm (Daylight Savings Time),🌄 which is one hour, 32 minutes and 37 seconds later then tonight. April is definitely not that far away nor is trout fishing 🎣. I am thinking for an April trip I’ll go to Madison and Chenango County for a few days and camp β›Ί and fish. Probably not until the week after Easter due to my busy work schedule. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 53 and 22 degrees. A pretty typical day. Typically, you have temperatures between 52 and 32 degrees. The record high of 77 degrees was set back in 2010.

March 5, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Partly sunny and 37 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. There is a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. πŸƒ. A pretty decent day for mid-March, didn’t mind my walk down to the Park and Ride at all. Crazy, fast driver again today, no waiting around today. πŸšƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 11 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

Feeling better this morning, πŸ‘ƒ my nose isn’t as plugged as it was and I’m not as achy. Maybe it’s just the better weather. 😎 If it’s Coronavirus, it’s pretty mild and not impacting me much. More likely it’s just an a ordinary rhinovirus. I should wash my hands better — after reading that book about butchering small livestock πŸ”ͺ I’ve learned how hard it is to clean one’s hands really well. πŸ™Œ I don’t know or maybe I just like the fact it’s not a session day so I can go for my walk, and the fresh air makes me feel heathy. The past few nights I’ve not been doing my evening walking or riding the bike, which means my jeans feel a bit tight with the extra calories I’m consuming at work. πŸ‘– It’s just tempting to have danish 🍩 with my coffee when I’m at work or finish off the pot of whatever I’ve cooked at home.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 46 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 19th. Further evidence that the weather is only going to improve from here on out. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 28 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1964. 8.6 inches of snow fell back in 1917.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 41.6Β° from the due south horizon (-29.3Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. Your shadow is getting sholder. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 5:13 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (257Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (263Β°) starting at 5:48 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:18 pm, which is one minute and 13 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous πŸŒ” Moon in the east-southeast (109Β°) at an altitude of 53Β° from the horizon, 233,369 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:52 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 43 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌀, with a low of 28 degrees at 3am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 22nd. Calm wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 9 degrees. The record low of -21 occurred back in 1948.

Never got to the store last night, 🚽 but I found enough toilet paper for now and I opened up some cans for veggies. I think if I play around I can find enough things in the pantry so I won’t need to go to the store before Saturday. πŸ˜‹ If I had been responsible I would have gone shopping yesterday, but I was lazy and got busy working on the updating the blog code.πŸ’»

Blog renovations continue, and I think I’ve discovered another reason why my blog is slow at times — the redirects for the images and maps are written in a way that is slow. πŸ”€ I thought I had fixed that issue years ago, but I discovered another issue that is requiring the PHP interprator when it should be a simple redirect. That said, the new content uploader is almost done, as is the comparison mapper code. I am hoping to launch the updated code this weekend.

Today in 1970, Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty goes into effect after ratification by 43 nations. πŸ’₯ In 1933, during the height of the Great Depression, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declares a “bank holiday”, closing all U.S. banks and freezing all financial transactions.🏦

A picture perfect weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, sunny, with a high near 40. Northwest wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 53. Typical average high for the weekend is 41 degrees. Sounds like a nice weekend but the wind on Saturday might make it feel chilly. Still planning on staying in town this weekend, unpacking my camping gear from my truck — prepping for the upcoming camping season, and loading up a load of bottle and cans to take to the recycling center later in the month. β™» Once the cans, glass, and accumulated plastic bottles are to the recycling center, I should be ready for camping for the year with plenty of cold beer, fire, and nights in wilderness. πŸ•

Snow Drift Against Mountain Background

March 4, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Today the Happy Average High is 40 β˜€οΈ! Winter is fading away or so I tell myself. Four weeks to April Fools Day 🀑. Cloudy and 41 degrees at the Valero. ☁ Breezy, ️20 mph breeze from the west 🌬 with gusts up to 32 mph πŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸ’¨. The wind is really flapping around the flag 🚩 at the gas station but it actually feels quite mild and spring like. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 2 am. β˜ƒοΈ

My sinuses were really plugged up πŸ‘ƒ and I had a bit headache this morning but I’m feeling better now that I’m going to work. I highly doubt I have the Coronavirus but I’m sure at some point I’ll get it — it doesn’t sound like the end of the world for a healthier person like myself. 😷 Maybe not so great for the President or his leading competitors, they’re kind of elderly. But hopefully not when I’m on vacation or planning on heading out of town.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly between 10am and 1pm. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 49 degrees at 2pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 26th. Mild enough it will save on the heat. ♨ Breezy, with a west wind 18 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 44 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1919. 8.3 inches of snow fell back in 1971.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 41.2Β° from the due south horizon (-29.6Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 5:12 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (256Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (263Β°) starting at 5:47 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:17 pm, which is one minute and 13 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous πŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (124Β°) at an altitude of 62Β° from the horizon, 236,140 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:50 pm. At sunset, look for possible rain showers 🌧 and temperatures around 44 degrees. Breezy, 16 mph breeze β›… from the west with gusts up to 28mph. Today will have 11 hours and 24 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers before midnight, then a slight chance of snow showers between midnight and 2am. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 30 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 27th. West wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 7 degrees. The record low of -12 occurred back in 1948.

After work I’ll probably run to the store 🏬 and wash my truck. 🚿 I think the roads are pretty salt free. I’ll also swing by Lowes to see if I can some screws to fix my waffle iron. πŸ”© And I want to keep working on my blog code so hopefully I can get this launched this weekend and maybe go for an evening πŸŒƒ walk.

Today in 1985, Food and Drug Administration approves a blood test for AIDS infection, used since then for screening all blood donations in the United States. πŸ†Ž In 1917, Jeannette Rankin of Montana becomes the first female member of the United States House of Representatives. 🚺 And in 1957, S&P 500 stock market index is introduced, replacing the S&P 90. πŸ“Š

A picture perfect weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 37. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 53. Typical average high for the weekend is 41 degrees.

This weekend I think I plan on staying in town and unpacking my truck cap and going through my camping gear, vacuuming outy truck. 🚿 I might also walk out to Five Rivers on Saturday morning then do Schodack Island in the afternoon, 🚢 buy groceries at Aldi’s 🍏 and then Sunday spend the bulk of the day hiking or skiing 🎿 maybe in the Catskills. πŸ—»

🌹🌻🌼Only 15 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until April Fools Day 🀑 when the sun will be setting at 7:21 pm with dusk at 7:50 pm (Daylight Savings Time). The jokes on all New Yorkers that day πŸƒ when they awake to the news πŸ“° of the state budget. Looking forward to April and doing more traveling once the snow is gone. β›Ί On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 42 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 52 degrees. We hit a record high of 77 back in 1986.

March 3, 2020 Night

Good evening! Absolutely pouring rain, wind and 48 degrees in Delmar, NY. β˜”It reminds me of a thunderstorm like you would have mid summer than a March rain storm. There is a south-southwest breeze at 11 mph. 🍃 with gusts up to 24 mph 💨💨💨. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 2 am. β˜ƒοΈ

About an hour ago I thought about going out for a walk 🚶 as the rain had stopped but I ultimately decided against it probably for good reason as I probably would have gotten soaked. I didn’t ride the exercise bike 🚲 as my neighbor was home as he works night shift Thursday through Saturday.

Work continues on the blog code update 📝 but every time I fix something I find more rot in the code. Often I find that years ago I wrote things in a way that isn’t future 🔮 proof and I ended up extending old broken code that just becomes more and more spaghetti with more if then statements.

Tonight will have showers, mainly before midnight. 🌧 Low of 39 degrees at 5am. 17 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 19th. Breezy, with a southwest wind 11 to 21 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 17 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1950.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous 🌔 Moon with 64% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the west-southwest (255Β°) at an altitude of 50Β° from the horizon, some 238,615 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 31st. Buckle up for safety! 💺 The Worm 🐛 Moon is on Monday, March 9. The darkest hour is at 12:08 am, followed by dawn at 6:00 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:28 am in the east (98Β°) and last for 2 minutes and 56 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 38 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 7:06 am with sun in the east-southeast (105Β°). Tonight will have 12 hours and 36 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers between 9am and 1pm. Partly sunny 🌦, with a high of 51 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 30th. Breezy, with a west wind 17 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 43 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1919. 8.3 inches of snow fell back in 1971.❄

I didn’t get to the store tonight 🏪 but I may go tomorrow. I might also go to Glenmont to wash my truck. 🚙 It was a kind of wet night and I wasn’t sure how much salt on the roads and who wants to drive in the dark and heavy rain? Although it wasn’t raining much earlier – well except for the evening commute 🚍.

In four weeks on March 31 the sun will be setting in the west (277Β°) at 7:20 pm (Daylight Savings Time),🌄 which is one hour, 32 minutes and 46 seconds later then tonight.
