Happy Saturday! Work! Work! Work! But I see summer coming. ๐Ÿ–

I think the Senate is done but like usual, our chamber is running late. I guess we are making up for all the early adjournments. I’m hoping to bank that time and use it to extend my Juneteenth weekend. My only concern is that next weekend might be cool and rainy. But I haven’t gotten out enough in recent weeks and I can string up tarps, though the idea of hot weather spent at the Potholers or the swimming hole by House Pond Campsite seems to be fading away. But it’s still good to get away.

Good morning, Happy Saturday. Partly cloudy and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 52 degrees.

Out walking and getting my steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ as much as I can before things get too crazy today. I worked until 3 AM but was able to do part of the night from home, so I could nap every once and while listening to session, setting my alarm 50 minutes on a hour, โฐ as usually that’s when important emails and things occur like committees called and debates starting and ending. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš–๏ธ Funny how you learn that technique that lets you get a little shut eye ๐Ÿ‘ while still keeping up with the work. But I’ve been doing this 16 years now, so you learn a bit, and with computers and possibility of remote work ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ป at times, especially late night, it makes it more possible. Being in the research department, being in person isn’t as necessary as it once was as a coordinator when I was constantly running over the Capitol to meet with members and staff.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 74 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 27th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 9am. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph. It’s been a remarkably cool spring from May into June. Had a few warm days but not a lot. But pleasant. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 2008.

Somehow I had this thought in my head ๐Ÿคช that the legislative session would wrap up on Friday, potentially late in the night, and I would mostly have my Saturday off, ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ’ผ though that seems unlikely at this point as that did not happen, well except for the other chamber. But I’ve been able to work from home, allowing me to catch a few naps between working. But still I’m not going to be able to go to the Gas Up ๐Ÿšœ with dad today as I hoped. Too bad, it would have been a beautiful day, but I’m thinking tomorrow I will be able to do this.

Probably will work a bit from home, ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ’ป and then work down from the library mid-day for a while, hopefully it will be good from a picnic table outside and my battery will hold up on my laptop, but if need be I can work from my truck. Or just from home with the hotspot, though I don’t want to use too much data if I can avoid it as my phone plan and 5 GB hotspot just renewed for the month. That said, I rarely keep my laptop at home and during the summer I don’t know if I’ll use the hotspot much at all. ๐Ÿ“ถ I can basically do nearly everything with my phone these days. Who knows though I’m ready to hop in my pickup truck and go downtown if necessary. ๐Ÿ›ป

At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 68 degrees. The dew point will be 55 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 6 mph. Sunset is at 8:34 pm with dusk lasting for 26 minutes concluding at 9:07 pm. Then later tonight, it will be partly cloudy, with a low around 50. ๐Ÿ˜ด West wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. Patchy fog after 5am.

It wouldn’t be a bad evening to hammock camp, ๐Ÿ• but truth be told I will likely be too tired and it’s better to catch up sleep in my own bed. Plus I want to take a good solid nap this afternoon ๐Ÿ’ค and then go to Walmart and Market32 to refresh my pantry. ๐Ÿ I really wish I had some fresh fruit to snack on this morning. I had a good breakfast of reheated quiche in a wrap with some extra spinach and olives but I wish I had something sweet to go along with it but I’ve eaten down all the fruit. ๐Ÿฅซ I should get some canned fruit for my pantry for times like this, as much as I dislike having to canned stuff that has be washed and recycled. โ™ป๏ธ Plus, I even though you can get canned in water, you have been careful and some of that crap sneaks in salt, especially for vegetables. ๐Ÿคฐ I have excellent blood pressure but I know salt can very quickly make that all go to crap.

For Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 82. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. I think Sunday’s forecast has improved enough that hopefully it good for the Gas Up with dad. ๐Ÿšœ I was hoping for some time to check it out myself, but that’s fine. I guess if next weekend turns out to be rainy and cold, I could camp in Schoharie and visit during the day time, but I still kind of want to head north for the long weekend. ๐Ÿ•

Kayaking Big Pond

Big Pond is one of the two larger ponds in the Catskills accessible to the public. Located in the Western Catskills, near Alder Pond, it has eight paddle in or hike in tent sites, and some pretty views.

Seneca Rocks, WV

I paddled in on August 17, 2010. These are the pictures I took paddling around the lake.

Night is Creeping Up on Me. I didn’t realize how quickly it got late at Big Pond, and I had even started dinner. To make matters worst, my white-gas lantern wouldn’t start, so I had to do everything by flash light.

Inholding. While most of Big Pond is part of the Middle Mountain Wild Forest, about 200 feet of shore line is privately owned. The folks in the cabin where really friendly when they stopped by in their electric pontoon boat, but it did kind of wreck the scenic view especially from where I was camping.

December 29, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Cold Moon ๐ŸŒ•! Couldn’t see the moon last night because of the clouds. Next Tuesday is National Bird Day ๐Ÿง. Snow showers, mostly cloudy and 28 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ There is a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. I heard though it’s supposed to clear out later. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 2 pm. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

I went out for my morning walk, ๐Ÿšถand while it wasn’t terrible warm or nice, it got nicer as the morning progressed. ๐ŸŒ„ Also did my evening walk. Feeling a better today, although still some tightness in my throat. But I plan to mask up ๐Ÿ˜ท and run to the store today as I need to get some supplies. I think I just have a bit of a cold, ๐Ÿค’ but the Day Quill helps. Good to use it up now, as it has an expiration of next month I guess. Always seem to get a bit of a cold this time of year. No fever or loss of smell, so I’m not real concerned. ๐Ÿ‘พ Not the topic the politicians like to publicly expose themselves about to get on camera. The pancakes for breakfast were good, ๐Ÿฅž although I wasn’t happy about the coffee being weak, โ˜• as I reused the beans from yesterday, as I ran out of coffee. I really need to get to the store today, as I miss my coffee and hot coca in the evening.๐Ÿ› I realize I’ve been kind of wasteful with coffee lately — been putting too much in the peculator and could be reusing the beans more. For me caffeine is just a drug, and I drink a shit ton more from home.

I also want to get to the library, ๐Ÿ“š as I accidentally messed up the projections library on my computer so I can’t do much in the way of map making. I was trying to process LiDAR point clouds into digital terrain models for measuring tree height, and when I added the extra software, I managed to cause a conflict in the projections library. I am going to have to purge that library and then reinstall it and all of the supporting software, and that will take a lot of bandwidth, so best do down at the library. ๐Ÿ’ปย  With the sun it shouldn’t be too cold down there.

Today will have a slight chance of snow showers before 10am. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 31 degrees at 10am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical Northwest wind 6 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1984. 6.0 inches of snow fell back in 1915.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:58 am with sun having an altitude of 24.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-46.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:45 pm with the sun in the southwest (231ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (239ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:31 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 5:02 pm, which is 46 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east-northeast (65ยฐ) at an altitude of 10ยฐ from the horizon, 245,218 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:38 pm. At sunset, look for mostly sunny skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 28 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 17. โ˜ƒ๏ธ There will be a northwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, an increase of 34 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 16 degrees at 4am. Typical for tonight. Maximum wind chill around 14 at 6pm; Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of -21 occurred back in 1933.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, rain likely before 10am, then a chance of showers between 10am and 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 36. Typical average high for the weekend is 31 degrees.

Based on the latest forecast, I am inclined to go up to the Adirondacks this long weekend. ๐Ÿ•ย It does like we might get a few or maybe several inches of snow on Friday, but I’ll park close to the road, and then drag my gear back. That way if we get a ton of snow, I can just shovel out the driveway and around the tent. I don’t really need to buy any food or supplies for camping, so I am good if I decide to head north on New Years Eve.๐Ÿ“ฒ I’d prefer to camp somewhere I have cell reception but it’s hard to know where I am going to be. But with unlimited mobile data, it might be fun to be able to watch a Youtube when I’m in the tent during the long nights.

Been working on a year on review video for the blog, ๐Ÿ–ผ basically just a picture series that goes through all of the photos that I posted over the year. It is mostly done now, I’ll probably try to get it uploaded โฌ† when I’m all the library. Also, I am working on adding some new types of interactives based on leafletjs — namely side-by-sides and overlays. Right now with the historical comparisons the blog, you can’t zoom in and out, and that’s something I’d like to change.

As previously noted, next Tuesday is National Bird Day ๐Ÿง when the sun will be setting at 4:36 pm with dusk at 5:08 pm. On that day in 2020, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 37 and 24 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 64 back in 1950.

My idea of festive decorations. Turn the CB radio colors to red

November 14, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Its the weekend in Biden’s ‘merica! No malarkey allowed. Working from home it doesn’t seem like that big of a change but I don’t have to check my work email as much on Saturday. ๐Ÿ“ง Next Saturday is Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone ๐ŸฆŒ. Pow! Pow! Overcast and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 10 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Had a nice big ol pile of pancakes ๐Ÿฅž for breakfast, and coffee โ˜•. Breakfast was good. I’ve been having a lot of eggs and cereal ๐Ÿฅฃ lately so pancakes topped with frozen cherries ๐Ÿ’ is a good change. Lately frozen cherries have been my snack of choice – fairly healthy and they help reduce achiness now that I’m cooped ๐Ÿ” up in my apartment with November underway.

Trimmed my hair ๐Ÿ’‡๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ up again. I like being able to keep my hair a consistent length without the barber ๐Ÿ’ˆand then I can also compost or burn the waste hair. I don’t like when my hair gets too long and curly or gets matted from mud and sweat especially in the woods – and these days working remotely I don’t shower as much. ๐Ÿšฟ Last shower I took was Tuesday. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐ŸปBathing ๐Ÿ›€ is nice, start to smell after a while.

I survived Friday the 13th in 2020 and both went for a morning and evening walk. Yesterday wasn’t a terrible day but it was cloudy and boring ๐Ÿ’ค working from home. I haven’t been on the Wi-Fi since Tuesday so I’m out of podcasts and videos to watch ๐Ÿ“บ but I guess that’s a good thing. I’ve been finding and downloading Coronavirus data and using it to make maps ๐Ÿ—บ and charts for the blog.

Been trying to get up and around more to avid getting so stiff and sore from my uncomfortable home work chair. ๐Ÿ’บ My neck and back have been feeling a lot better ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป since I’ve been making stretching activities during the work day more of a priority. At times now I stand at work or kneel on my knees at the desk to improve my posture.

Today will be cloudy โ˜๏ธ, then gradually becoming sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 46 degrees at 1pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 20th. Northwest wind 9 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1973. 14.4 inches of snow fell back in 1972.โ„ I heard maybe some snow flurries today but no big snow storms right away.

I am hoping it will clear out soon โ›… so it’s nice when I walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป out to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ. I know I need to leave relatively early today as it gets dark, early. Plus my battery ๐Ÿ”‹ bank is low on the truck so I want it to be topped off before I start my truck on Sunday to go out to the folks house. I haven’t driven anywhere since Monday at this point – which used to be the norm for me most weeks but since the pandemic started I’ve been driving ๐Ÿš˜ down to the library more to work with the Wi-Fi. ๐Ÿฆ‰

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:41 am with sun having an altitude of 29ยฐ from the due south horizon (-41.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:52 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (238ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (246ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:35 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 11 seconds with dusk around 5:03 pm, which is 55 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:39 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 44 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 47 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 10 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 27 degrees at 2am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 30th. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 14 occurred back in 1939.

Cold but not unreasonable tonight. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป I am sure I’ll probably go for a nice walk late this evening and maybe listen ๐ŸŽง to podcasts I downloaded while I’m at the Five Rivers Wi-Fi.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Small Business Saturday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:24 pm with dusk at 4:55 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 47 and 33 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 43 degrees. We hit a record high of 68 back in 1990.

NY 280

August 9, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Six weeks to Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ . Sunny and 71 degrees at the Finger Lakes National Forest. Tree๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. The dew point is 64 degrees.

Went for a walk ๐Ÿšถ again this morning on the Interlaken Trail and to Foster Pond. Definitely a nice morning, ๐ŸŒž lots of sun and wildflowers. ๐ŸŒปHad a nice pan of corned beef hash and cheese for breakfast. ๐Ÿณ Some eggs ๐Ÿฅš would be nice but I’ll have to get them today.

Wildflowers are definitely better this time of year ๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿ compared to earlier in the summer when I often take my vacation. It just makes my vacation a little more enjoyable seeing the road sides in bloom, the butterflies and bees. And yes, all that field corn ๐ŸŒฝ is getting tall.

Been quite busy up here ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ง, with so many things closed during the pandemic based on the number of cars ๐Ÿš˜ I’ve seen on the road. Fortunately, my campsite is quite remote and quiet ๐Ÿคซ so nobody is bothering me. Seen more equestrians ๐Ÿด than normal – in part because the Upper Assembly Area is closed at Sugar Hill. ๐Ÿ”

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 82 degrees at 4pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 66 at 6pm. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 8 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 2001.

Kind of breezy up here on the backbone ๐Ÿ—ป but I’m hoping the breeze will die down later and I can get out on Seneca Lake and the Montour Canal later. ๐Ÿ›ถ I’m excited about all the wildlife I might see there. ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆ†๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿข๐ŸฆŽ๐ŸŸ I just don’t want to go on Seneca Lake if it’s at all breezy ๐Ÿšฃ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ because it’s a big lake and can be very choppy. ๐ŸŒŠ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:13 pm with sun having an altitude of 63.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-7.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:38 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (286ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (292ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:17 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 8:46 pm, which is one minute and 21 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:26 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 77 degrees. The dew point will be 67 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 8 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 25 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 68 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 7pm. Southwest wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 48 occurred back in 1955.

Been reading ๐Ÿ“– more of the Real Goods Solar Living Handbook. Half marketing catalog, half pseudo green living for rich folk, it sure seems like it’s gotten real dated fast. ๐ŸŒŽ Still an interesting read even if it’s more ideological and about marketing over-priced organic crap and green products for the landfill ๐Ÿ—‘ then practical realities of providing for one’s self and obeying the laws of nature.

I was noticing how much of the forest along Potomac Road was ash trees. ๐ŸŒณIt’s only a matter of time before much of the forest is going to be dying than gone. I see they have an Emerald Ash Boerer trap on the road to detect the invaders but I doubt they’ll treat all of the trees. Already as little as 50 miles south of here in Wellsboro you can see the devestation of the forests from EAB. ๐Ÿ› Forests are always in a state of decline – thats entropy – but they’re always changing with the land and introduced species.

One week from now I’ll be taking down camp and heading back to Albany. ๐Ÿก Or at least heading closer to that direction. But there is a lot more reading ๐Ÿ“–, hiking ๐Ÿšถ and paddling to do before then. Vacation really is just beginning – today is my first full day in the Finger Lakes.

I am still thinking I want to go the way I came ๐Ÿค” although I would want to avoid that rough seasonal use only road. If it’s really nice a week from Sunday I might overnight at Cherry Ridge ๐Ÿ’ and then head back home through Madison County. I like seeing the rough dairy country. ๐Ÿฎ The hills, the cows, the rundown shacks and hollows. ๐Ÿ—ป

I really like the wild country ๐Ÿ and wish I could live out here full time. Somehow I like it even better than the Adirondacks. Redneck country life is fun, even if at times it’s dirty and smelly. ๐Ÿ’ฉ But alas I’m making good money at my job ๐Ÿ’ต and are able to save a lot of it for a better tomorrow. It’s nice having some professional success in life and knowing it will lead to a better tomorrow, especially as I try to live frugally as possible. Some days I’ll live in a small town, have land and be able to listen ๐Ÿ‘‚ to the moos of cattle full time. ๐Ÿ„

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ when the sun will be setting at 7:06 pm with dusk at 7:34 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 79 and 42 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 71 degrees. We hit a record high of 90 back in 1946.

April 24, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is May 1st. Been such a cold spring it’s hard to imagine that next week is May. It’s only just starting to green up in Albany. ๐ŸŒธ Rain and 41 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. 0.14 inches of rain is expected before it ends around 4 pm. Not a lot of rain predicted and Saturday will be nice.

Coffee โ˜• and wild berry muffins this morning for breakfast. Also cream cheese. It was a pretty decent breakfast not as heavy or labor intensive as making eggs ๐Ÿณ like I did yesterday. No birds ๐Ÿฆ out the window to give the middle finger too. I do get a laugh ๐Ÿ˜‚ out of giving the bird to the birds. I’m sure my neighbors think I’m nuts.

Wish it was nicer out but I really shouldn’t complain much ๐ŸŒป– I am sure hot and humid days are right around the corner. It will kind of suck this year if state park swimming ๐ŸŠ pools are closed because of Coronavirus.

Today will rain likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 53 degrees at 4pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 4th. North wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2001. 1.2 inches of snow fell back in 1967.โ„

Kind of a dreary day for sure. ๐Ÿ’ฆ April Showers bring May flowers although they’ll be no tulip festival ๐ŸŒท this year not that I ever went to that except for tabling for Save the Pine Bush a few years ago. But it’s nice when things green up except of course for the black flies.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 60.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-10.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:10 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (282ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (289ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:48 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 8:18 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-northwest (282ยฐ) at an altitude of 11ยฐ from the horizon, 247,483 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:55 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 49 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 49 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 38 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 36 degrees at 4am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 12th. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 38 degrees. The record low of 23 occurred back in 1965.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 63 degrees at 4pm. Typical for tomorrow. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 2009. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1928.โ„

Sounds like a remarkably nice spring day. โ˜€ I have to get early up tomorrow but I should have most of the day to enjoy spending in the woods. ๐ŸŒฟ I’m thinking about hiking in the afternoon and maybe hammock camping โ›บ in a state forest, although it might be a bit chilly and wet by morning. I think the rain is coming early come Sunday.

Looking ahead to Sunday, rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 52. East wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 63 degrees. ๐Ÿ’ฆ Definitely going to be a real dreary day. I’m going to have to get some more videos to watch from the library Wi-Fi and some more data to make up maps.

Paid my rent or actually the bank did ๐Ÿฆ as next week is May. Hopefully enough of my neighbors are too and my landlord isn’t going bankrupt. ๐Ÿก He does have a nice house over the river but who knows what his cash flow situation is like. I know a lot of out of work people aren’t paying rent. I also had to cancel the double bill for my car insurance – they kindly sent me a second bill for the time period with a later deadline and a reduced payment – but it meant that I cancel that from auto bill pay as I had already paid my bill for the next six months. ๐Ÿ’ต

I am still waiting on my stimulus check to arrive ๐Ÿ’ฐ but because I didn’t owe or get anything refunded from the federal government this year, I don’t think they have my information on file and the last I checked their website wasn’t working. I was hoping it would come sooner rather than later so I could use it partially to buy index ๐Ÿ“‡ funds when the market is still cheap. I’m young I’m not phased much about the sluggish performance of the market lately. I do think at some point Coronavirus will kill who it’s going to kill (hopefully not me or loved ones) and then we’ll move forward. Ten years from now I expect the markets to be a lot stronger and then I can buy land. ๐Ÿšœ

As previously noted, next Friday is May 1st ๐Ÿ•Š when the sun will be setting at 7:55 pm with dusk at 8:26 pm. On that day in 2019, we had cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 56 and 42 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2001.

January 17, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and 9 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. The current wind chill is -3. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at Sunday around 7 am. 🌡๏ธ Chilly evening out and tomorrow should be fairly cold too before the snow storm.

Kind of a cold night 🌃 for sure. I decided to cancel my plans tonight for going over to John Wolcott house and stay home because I’m afraid I’m starting to get another cold that’s been going around the office. 😨 I actually don’t know my congestion might just be from running outside in the cold or just pretending I’m sick as it’s Friday and I’m tired after a long week at work. Sometimes I feel sick when I’m just over tired. 😴 Volunteers can take time off too.

I told my parents I’d meet them for breakfast tomorrow but it depends on how I feel come the morning. 🍳 If I feel better after a good night’s sleep I’ll join them then go for a hike – I’m thinking Kehler Preserve but maybe just Bennett Hill then run to the grocery store 🏬 before the snow starts and the library later to get a book or two to read 📖. I’ve been feeling good lately but I’m afraid I might have picked up another cold with a little congestion this evening. That could easily cancel out tomorrow. I’m hoping a good night sleep and a early rise tomorrow will cancel that out. 💤

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 3 degrees at 11pm. 11 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -3 at 8pm; Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of -19 occurred back in 1957.

Tomorrow will snow, mainly after 2pm. 🌨 High of 24 degrees at 6pm. Five degrees below normal. Light and variable wind becoming south 8 to 13 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1973. 7.9 inches of snow fell back in 1891.โ„ Not looking at a big snow storm from this one but it might be cold enough next week to last much of the week, assuming we don’t loose most of it Sunday.

Ever since lubricating my exercise bike 🚲 it’s been much quieter lately. I did ride it for about an hour watching a video of Keith Fink farm pulling a calve 🐮 and then a video on chopping a deer and what that Ohio Prepper guy is doing with his cabin. Demolition ranch too. 🔫 Fun stuff. 🎥

I may have to adjust the bike or ride it less though as I’ve been noticing a lot of stiffness in my knees after riding for a few hours, almost making the stairs a bit difficult this morning. 💪 I rode for over two hours last night but come morning I was not painful in my knees but just stiff. I don’t like watching video unless I’m on the bike 🚲. Got better the next few times up the stairs. Its been an issue since I got Lyme disease although lately all the other symptoms have gone away. The inflammation after the Lyme bacteria can take a while to go away I’ve heard. 🐜

If not for the snow I would definitely have gone out camping in Madison County โ›บ but I didn’t want to camp through a heavy snow storm even down not that far from the asphalt road. Not that snow fall is going to be that significant but it could be worse there and it adds up. I’m almost ready to say no more camping until April but it will all depend on the weather come February. Next week is the Pine Bush hike 🌲I’m leading and being a two day weekend with a good threat of snow โ„ I’ll probably stay in town. Makes up for all the heat I’m burning tonight to stay warm.
