May 28, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy, muggy and 73 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south breeze at 13 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 66 degrees. The skies will clear Saturday around 11 am.

A fairly quiet day, I got my remaining camping gear put away, πŸ”±and spend a lot of time vacuuming up sand πŸ‘£I managed to track everywhere from working Wednesday at the beach 🏊 and running back to my truck πŸƒ when I needed run reports or export something from Excel.

It was kind of a hot and sticky day, ♨ not oppressive but you definitely felt the sop when you moved around and burned some calories. The long hair πŸ’‡was particularly gross in the heat and humidity despite washing it in the morning and trimming my sideburns and goatee down to a reasonable length.

I went down to the library for a while this afternoon and worked down there πŸ’». I was having trouble with the internet but ultimately I moved closer to the library and swapped to a different version of the kernel driver which seemed to improve the Wi-Fi reception. πŸ“Ά The Wi-Fi has been always kind of problem with this laptop as the Linux driver has always been a bit buggy.

I went for my evening walk 🚢 and eat the remaining pasta 🍲 I made for lunch. Caught up on the YouTube videos πŸ“Ή that I downloaded earlier in the day. I haven’t followed the usual YouTube stuff as closely as I’d rather sit out back then watching videos. Plus in the spring, how many hours of video do you really want to watch of people hauling manure. πŸ’© A lot of that in spring time on the YouTube. I also was having issues with my YouTube download script I had to fix.

The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1931.

In four weeks on June 25 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303Β°) at 8:37 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 13 minutes and 43 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 86 and 68 degrees. Around the latest sunset of the year, already moving a bit further west and less north as winter approaches again. Typically, you have temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. The record high of 95 degrees was set back in 1898.

May 28, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Back in the cesspool for a few days. Work at home, no bonfires our back no paper plates to eat off or black flies to deal with. I so need to move back to the country and a life based on reality and not escape. Partly cloudy and 70 degrees in Delmar, NY. β›… There is a south breeze at 8 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 64 degrees. A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:42 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (301Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:24 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 22 seconds with dusk around 8:57 pm, which is 52 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter πŸŒ“ Moon in the west-southwest (245Β°) at an altitude of 49Β° from the horizon, 230,026 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:41 pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 73 degrees.

It’s going to be a stay in town weekend 🏑 and I’m sure that will make the Uncle Police 🚨 in Facebook happy. But it’s going to be fairly cool and I need a break from camping. Does that not mean that next weekend I don’t decide to go north? Or to Schoharie County? Gawd, I don’t know. πŸ“ It would be nice to get strawberries in Schoharie County if the farm stands are open.

May 27, 2020 10 PM Update

Good evening! Partly clear and 78 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 9 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 62 degrees. Warm maybe a tad bit muggy but not too bad.

Back home after five nights in the woods 🏑 and really six full days as I was up to camp on Friday before nine and worked from camp and Speculator, the same true today, Wednesday. I wasn’t planning on staying as long as I did but I decided I’d rather ride out the heat wave up north. It’s already cooled off a lot this evening. 😴 Tired because I don’t know I don’t sleep as well at camp although I think ultimately it does help restore my sleep. Plus I’ve been staying up too late most nights and the sun is out after 5 something am.

I have most of the gear unpacked from my truck β›Ί and washed up and ready to go to the attic for storage. The screen tent is great during black fly season but it’s so bulky and heavy I doubt I’ll use it except on extended camping trips.

It was a working day πŸ’Ό so while I did spend some time in the hammock and at the Speculator Beach, 🏊 and got covered with sand lying there and splashed in the water a bit, most of the day was devoted to sending emails, running reports and phone calls. πŸ“ž Left Speculator after five, got home around seven. I’m already missing being in the woods but summer ain’t over yet.

As soon as I started driving through Guilderland, 🚘 and all of the suburban sprawl with the yuppie houses, I was reminded this ain’t really my home, just a place to get the mail. βœ‰ I really want to get to Madison County soon 🚜 but there aren’t many roadside campsites up there except the camping area that is closed. Not heading out of town this weekend but maybe next. Some point I hope to never come back to Delmar, owning land in a freerer state.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 66 degrees at 4am. 15 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 9pm. South wind around 9 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1994.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent πŸŒ’ Moon with 28% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the west (271Β°) at an altitude of 31Β° from the horizon, some 232,220 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. πŸš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by November 19th. Buckle up for safety! πŸ’Ί The Strawberry πŸ“ Moon is on Friday, June 5. The darkest hour is at 12:54 am, followed by dawn at 4:50 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:24 am in the east-northeast (60Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 21 seconds. Sunrise is 38 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:06 am with sun in the east-northeast (67Β°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 59 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 30 seconds over last night.

In four weeks on June 24 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303Β°) at 8:37 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 14 minutes and 31 seconds later then tonight. Looking ahead, Latest Sunset πŸŒ† is in 4 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 πŸ‘΄πŸ» is in 34 weeks.

Reflections

May 27, 2020 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? A Beautiful Hump Day, of course. Four weeks to Latest Sunset πŸŒ†. Mostly sunny and 77 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. Calm wind. β˜€ The dew point is 64 degrees.

Final day up in the Adirondacks for a while. πŸ—» I’m going to stay up in the Speculator area until five o’clock with my phone and laptop then head home and eventually get unpacked. My clothes are dirty, my coolers are pretty bare and out of ice. While I had to work Memorial Day I managed to get a six day camping trip out of it by working from camp during the pandemic. I’m sure it’s been a lot cooler up here then back home.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 85 degrees at 4pm. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 9am. South wind 3 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1914.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 67.9Β° from the due south horizon (-2Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:46 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (301Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:29 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 9:02 pm, which is 54 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter πŸŒ“ Moon in the west (260Β°) at an altitude of 41Β° from the horizon, 232,318 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:47 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 76 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 34 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 59 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 22nd. Maximum dew point of 62 at 8pm. Southwest wind around 6 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1994.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 9 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. πŸ˜ƒ Saturday, showers likely, mainly before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 68. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Maximum dew point of 56 at 6am. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 61. Maximum dew point of 41 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 73 degrees.

It’s going to be a nice weekend 😎 but I’ll probably stay closer to home this weekend after my fun in the Adirondacks. I’m hoping within a few weeks I’ll be able to go up to the potholers. Piseco Powley Road was starting to be repaired last autumn by the town but repairs were delayed by the pandemic. Nothing like that potholers on a hot sunny day. 🏊 That said that swimming hole down by House Pond Campsite hits the spot too and you can walk there from that campsite and not have to drive. I’m also hoping soon that Cherry Ridge Camping Area in Madison County reopens so that’s another possibility. And then maybe Mine Kill Pool. I know their is issues with life guards getting Coronavirus from CPR and possibly the bathrooms but the pools are chlorinated and safe themselves. That said, I don’t think they use mouth to mouth breathing anymore but I guess rescues could involve close contact. πŸš‘

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Latest Sunset πŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:42 pm with dusk at 9:18 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 85 and 56 degrees. Just another nice summer day, one of many to come as we all adapt to both the good and bad of the pandemic. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.

 Albany

May 26, 2020 Night

Good evening. Clear and 74 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. πŸŒƒ Light south breeze. The dew point is 62 degrees. A beautiful night, after laying in the hammock for a while looking at the stars I decided to start a small campfire πŸ”₯ just to sit by and look at while starring up at the skies. I’ve dimmed the lights for the evening, and it’s very starry 🌟 on this final night of camping. Saw one intensely bright shooting star fall from the sky – kind of burned up with a bright flash. Made a wish and looked in disbelief that suddenly its 2020.

Tonight should be a nice night, partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 61 degrees at 4am. πŸŒƒ 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around July 3rd. Maximum dew point of 62 at 9pm. Doesn’t feel that muggy here. But then again, I’m just hanging out by the fire and it’s a small one. Dry enough I will put it out cold before bed. A lot of dry grass around this campsite even as the green grass grows back up around it. Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1969.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent πŸŒ’ Moon with 18% illuminated. Nice strong moon shadow tonight too. At 9 PM, the moon was in the west (272Β°) at an altitude of 33Β° from the horizon, some 234,985 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. πŸš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by November 21st. Buckle up for safety! πŸ’Ί The Strawberry πŸ“ Moon is on Friday, June 5. The darkest hour is at 12:56 am, followed by dawn at 4:49 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:24 am in the east-northeast (59Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 25 seconds. Sunrise is 42 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:06 am with sun in the east-northeast (66Β°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 54 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 36 seconds over last night.

A fairly quiet but busy work day from camp. β›Ί Lots of phone calls πŸ“ž and emails βœ‰ sent, lots of client business done. Memos written πŸ“ questions πŸ™‹ answered. Kind of like working from home only more scenic. Very quiet up here now that the holiday weekend is over, I think I saw maybe three cars all weekend.

Tomorrow after I take down camp I’ll work from the Lake Algonquin Park and Speculator Beach or library if I need more bandwidth then I can do over my phone. 😎 Maybe get a burger πŸ” or something for lunch and ice cream for the heat 🍦, possibly dip my feet in at the beach and when work is done at five, head home 🏑. Honestly, I think I’m just as productive remote working from the Adirondacks πŸ—» and a whole less stressed. And by the time I get home the heat wave 🌊 should be largely broken.

Had some rain showers today β˜” and a few claps of thunder ⚑ but nothing to dramatic. One shower probably could be heard a bit on a client call πŸ“ž but I’ll chock it up to rain on the roof – of the screen tent. By no means does the tent πŸŽͺ block all the rain but with the tarp I used to create shade it worked well enough.

Food today 🍲 was kind what I had leftover, I packed food and clothes for a maximum of four days and I’m day five of the trip. Lunch was tuna fish salad with breakfast sausage and pasta, while dinner was creamed corn, refried beans, pasta with mayo and cheese along with breakfast sausage. πŸ‘ A garbage plate, yes but I wanted to eat up what I had before it went bad.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 85 degrees at 3pm. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 8am. Going to be sticky by the time I awake but this night is real pleasant. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1914.

In four weeks on June 23 the sun will be setting in the northwest (304Β°) at 8:42 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 15 minutes and 41 seconds later then tonight. The sun doesn’t set much later then it does now – only a fifteen minute gain. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 84 and 55 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1888.

Tonight is the last night camping β›Ί for my Memorial Day Weekend remote working trip, but it has inspired me to do more similar adventures in the future as long as I plan places that have good cell phone reception and sun for the solar panel. Over the past five days I’ve used over 1,000 watt hours of solar power camping, mostly for my laptop and phone charger for work and some camp lighting and starting battery πŸ”‹ topping but that’s not been a lot quite honestly compared to keeping the laptop charged for work. I’m thinking a possible weekend next in Schoharie County may be next, but that’s a few weeks off and remote work may end sooner than later and it’s back to the old dungeon office 🏒. And riding the CDTA bus 🚍 to work every day. How novel public transportation seems these days. I do kind of miss the days of yore but I like the wilder side of life too during the pandemic. Maybe if they reopen Cherry Ridge πŸ’ I can camp and remote work from the wilds of Madison County and do a nice day trip down to Rogers Center on the weekend for bird 🐦 watching.

Looking ahead, Primary Day πŸ—³οΈ is in 4 weeks, Election Day 2020 πŸ—³οΈ is in 23 weeks and Election Day 2020 πŸ—³οΈ is in 23 weeks.

Upper Blenhium Reservior

May 26, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Four weeks to Primary Day πŸ—³οΈ. I wonder if I got my absentee ballot application? I’ll have to get home on Wednesday evening to find out. Running low on food, clothes and supplies. I will probably vote absentee with the coronavirus crisis as it’s just easier and 90 percent of the time I vote absentee at any rate.

Partly sunny and 64 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. 😎 Calm wind. The dew point is 61 degrees. Going to be a hot day and the first muggy day of the summer. June is just around the corner as is summer. I am hoping the beaches and pools will reopen. 🏊 Some of the news lately is encouraging πŸ“° but a lot depends on what the politicians decide. I’m still hoping Mine Kill among others will reopen come summer.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 84 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 5pm. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. Going to be a hot day, but cooler here in the Adirondacks then back in the city. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 2010. There was a dusting of snow in 1953.❄

This morning was kind of a stumble β˜• when I couldn’t find my car keys πŸ”‘ with my truck locked πŸ”’ and then my griddle. 🍳 I was tired 😴 after sitting out in the sun and all the craziness that was Monday at work and wasn’t careful where I put things away before bed. Probably a few beers with dinner 🍻 didn’t help but at least I wasn’t hung over this morning. Sigh. I did find the keys and griddle after a few minutes of panic.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 67.7Β° from the due south horizon (-2.2Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:45 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (301Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:28 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 9:01 pm, which is 56 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent πŸŒ’ Moon in the west (272Β°) at an altitude of 33Β° from the horizon, 234,980 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:46 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 76 degrees. The dew point will be 64 degrees. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 4 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 38 seconds over yesterday.

I do wish I had a fan with me. πŸƒ I do have the 12 volt fan but I don’t have an extension cord for 12 volt power. I could bring a small 120 volt fan but I’m not sure if it’s efficient or I should build a 12 volt extension cord.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, partly cloudy 🌀, with a low of 60 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 27th. Maximum dew point of 64 at 8pm. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Muggy evening! In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1969.

After the heat the next few days, cool this weekend with temperatures running 9 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. πŸ˜ƒ Saturday, a chance of showers before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 69. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 55 at 6am. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 60. Typical average high for the weekend is 73 degrees. I will probably stay in town this weekend, I need to rest up at home and save some money after my busy Memorial Day Weekend adventures.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Primary Day πŸ—³οΈ when the sun will be setting at 8:42 pm with dusk at 9:18 pm. Later here then back in Albany. On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 84 and 55 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1888.

Reflecting Pond

May 25, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 66 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. There is a south breeze at 6 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 58 degrees. It was a beautiful sunset πŸŒ‡ to end the Memorial Day Weekend. Thank you all that served and gave their lives for the country.

I totally got killed by the black flies 🐜 today when I was laying back on the hammock, emailing and calling clients. It was a pleasant place to work but the black flies and the sun burnt wasn’t so much fun. Tomorrow if the heat is bareable I’ll spend more time in the screen tent πŸŽͺ.

The sun β˜€ was good for part of the day and the breeze was nice so solar power worked fine for the laptop and all other things that needed a charge. I didn’t really mind working this Memorial Day as it was a beautiful weekend and maybe while a working weekend a good one. I just wish I had used more sunscreen and DEET or picardin on my legs.

While the screen tent πŸŽͺ is good for the black flies, at times it sure is hot during the day. While occasionally a bug will sneak in and bite for the most part the black flies are very well controlled by the tent. They are starting to die down now for the night πŸŒƒ and then maybe I’ll have a small fire if the breeze dies down and lay back in the hammock. πŸ”₯ I am worried about how dry it is up here, so I want to keep any fire small but it would be nice to burn up the paper plates and camp trash.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy 🌀, with a low of 58 degrees at 4am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 19th. Maximum dew point of 58 at 9pm. South wind 3 to 6 mph. In 2019, we had rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It became somewhat humid as the night progressed. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1972.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent πŸŒ’ Moon with 11% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the west-northwest (282Β°) at an altitude of 24Β° from the horizon, some 237,868 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. πŸš€ A pretty little sliver moon tonight. At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by November 22nd. Buckle up for safety! πŸ’Ί The moon will set in the borthwest (305Β°) at 11:29 pm. The Strawberry πŸ“ Moon is on Friday, June 5. The darkest hour is at 12:56 am, followed by dawn at 4:50 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:24 am in the east-northeast (60Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 25 seconds. Sunrise is 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:07 am with sun in the east-northeast (67Β°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 56 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 39 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 83 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 13th. Maximum dew point of 61 at 5pm. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon.
