May 27, 2020 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? A Beautiful Hump Day, of course. Four weeks to Latest Sunset πŸŒ†. Mostly sunny and 77 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. Calm wind. β˜€ The dew point is 64 degrees.

Final day up in the Adirondacks for a while. πŸ—» I’m going to stay up in the Speculator area until five o’clock with my phone and laptop then head home and eventually get unpacked. My clothes are dirty, my coolers are pretty bare and out of ice. While I had to work Memorial Day I managed to get a six day camping trip out of it by working from camp during the pandemic. I’m sure it’s been a lot cooler up here then back home.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 85 degrees at 4pm. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 9am. South wind 3 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1914.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 67.9Β° from the due south horizon (-2Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:46 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (301Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:29 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 9:02 pm, which is 54 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter πŸŒ“ Moon in the west (260Β°) at an altitude of 41Β° from the horizon, 232,318 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:47 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 76 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 34 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 59 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 22nd. Maximum dew point of 62 at 8pm. Southwest wind around 6 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1994.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 9 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. πŸ˜ƒ Saturday, showers likely, mainly before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 68. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Maximum dew point of 56 at 6am. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 61. Maximum dew point of 41 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 73 degrees.

It’s going to be a nice weekend 😎 but I’ll probably stay closer to home this weekend after my fun in the Adirondacks. I’m hoping within a few weeks I’ll be able to go up to the potholers. Piseco Powley Road was starting to be repaired last autumn by the town but repairs were delayed by the pandemic. Nothing like that potholers on a hot sunny day. 🏊 That said that swimming hole down by House Pond Campsite hits the spot too and you can walk there from that campsite and not have to drive. I’m also hoping soon that Cherry Ridge Camping Area in Madison County reopens so that’s another possibility. And then maybe Mine Kill Pool. I know their is issues with life guards getting Coronavirus from CPR and possibly the bathrooms but the pools are chlorinated and safe themselves. That said, I don’t think they use mouth to mouth breathing anymore but I guess rescues could involve close contact. πŸš‘

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Latest Sunset πŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:42 pm with dusk at 9:18 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 85 and 56 degrees. Just another nice summer day, one of many to come as we all adapt to both the good and bad of the pandemic. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.
