May 16, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. โ›ช Nice morning and so far the black flies aren’t out in mass yet. ๐Ÿœ Four weeks to Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ . Mostly sunny and 51 degrees in Speculator, NY. Light breeze from the west.

Yesterday I did a 3 mile hike along a bunch of dirt roads at Spectulator Tree Farm. ๐ŸŒฒI plan to upload those photos from my other camera ๐Ÿ“ธ later on probably after also hiking Watch Hill today. Lots of birds and wildlife and some nice quiet views. ๐Ÿฆ I liked hiking for hours without seeing anyone, the breeze kept the black flies away ๐Ÿœ and the mix of timberland and woods meant there was much to see. Came back to camp, made up a big bowl of macaroni and cheese ๐Ÿง€ with corn ๐ŸŒฝ and ham. Good dinner after a nice day, had a fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ and watched the stars โœจ. Got a bit sunburnt and are a bit achy last night ๐Ÿค• but I figure that’s just summer coming on or skin cancer.

Today will have a slight chance of showers between noon and 2pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. โšก Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 65 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 28th. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 73 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1991.

My plan is to get a fairly early start – after my breakfast of eggs and coffee โ˜• take down camp and head into town for ice. I haven’t turned my truck on since Thursday evening ๐Ÿ”‹ but I know the starting battery is fully charged as the solar has done well, especially yesterday with the bright ๐Ÿ”† sunshine.

I want to do a hike up Watch Hill ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป before the thunderstorms โ›ˆ hit later. I don’t want tbe to be hiking in a thunderstorm especially with my quite worn boots ๐Ÿ‘ข that no longer have good traction in the rain. I’m going to order a new pair on Monday along with some jeans ๐Ÿ‘–. I need more clothes now that starting next week I’ll be working downtown a few days a week.

I thought about other hikes ๐Ÿ—ป but I like Watch Hill and I’m not expecting too many crowds off season but it should be pretty with everything greening up nicely. Easy hike, I should be off it by afternoon when the thunderstorms roll in. I like sitting down by the lake. ๐Ÿฆ I’ll keep my eyes out for birds and wildlife.

Then camp off by Mason Lake tonight โ›บ and head back to town to work in Spectulator in the morning and head home thereafter. Technically, I don’t have to be in the office until Wednesday but I want a day home to unpack ๐Ÿ’ผ and plus I would rather do the Zoom Meetings from the library Wi-Fi than my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ as it looks bad to be zooming from camp when other colleagues are in the downtown office. Hybrid for now. It will be nice to see some of my colleagues in the office, ๐Ÿข especially the ones I’ve Zoomed with mostly lately.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-4.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:35 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (291ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (298ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:17 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 19 seconds with dusk around 8:49 pm, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the west (266ยฐ) at an altitude of 41ยฐ from the horizon, 244,296 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:32 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 57 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 45 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 6 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7pm, then a slight chance of showers between 7pm and 9pm. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 43 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 2nd. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1959.

Should be a decent evening. ๐ŸŒƒ I could stay until Tuesday but I think Monday night makes the most sense. Work from my actual apartment on Tuesday and get my suit ready for Wednesday. ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿซ The good thing had to end with the pandemic ending and I kind of look forward to my own time on the bus ๐Ÿš. Plus it gets hot especially working from home without air conditioning. I’m just glad that the vaccine is so effective ๐Ÿ’‰ and they repaired Piseco-Powley Road, ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ meaning easy trips to the Potholers and the Mine Kill Pool will be open once again.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ when the sun will be setting at 8:39 pm with dusk at 9:14 pm. On that day in 2020, we had a pretty cool but partly sunny day with temperatures between 66 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 79 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1892.

Please see also information on dispersed, roadside and back-country camping in New York State, Vermont and West Virginia.

Allegheny National Forest Dispersed Campsites (shown on this map with a round Yellow Camp logo) are free-to-use with a 14-day stay limit in any 30 day period. Many of these campsites are informal areas used for camping, others like along Forest Road 160 and 259 near Jake’s Rocks and along Lolita Grade have enhanced gravel pads/parking areas. Unlike New York State, they do not have formal markings at the sites. More detailed map.

PA DCNR Motor Vehicle Campsites (shown on this map with a Blue Camp logo) are free to stay at with a permit which can now be obtained online, 3 days in advance.

More About Allegheny National Forest Camping …

In the Allegheny National Forest there are a variety of back country roads, offering primitive roadside camping.

  • Campsites are free to use, and have no facilities except for a fire ring and a pull-off from the road, and sometimes a site reinforced with gravel.
  • As noted below, some campsites have additional facilities.
  • Don’t make a mess of campsites, pack out any garbage left over.
  • Burn only dead and down trees, don’t bring in wood from out of state.
  • You can camp up to 14 days per 30 day period in Allegheny National Forest — no permits are required.

Forest Road 160/259 is the most popular dispersed camping area near Jakes Rocks and the Allegheny Reservior. Above are some campsites in this area. Many of these campsites have gravel parking areas and hardend campsites.

Sitting Next to the Campfire

There are several campsites along Loleta Grade, south of Lamonaville (FR 131).  This is on the backside of Buzzard Swamp Wildlife Refuge, and is a much more wilderness experience. Many of these campsites have gravel parking areas and hardened campsites. Some of the campsites along the Gurgling Run can be buggy during the summer month, but get much less use then the Jakes Rocks area. Be aware that Forest Road 131 from Loleta Recreation Area to Forest Road 288 is permanently closed due to damage after Superstorm Sandy.

Camping Down at the Painter Run

Camping at Painter Run

I have not done a lot of DCNR Motor Vehicle Camping, but above is a picture from 2012 when I spent half a week truck camping at Painter Run in the Tioga State Forest near the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. There are many other opportunities as can be seen above, if you plan ahead and get your permit.

Also, see the DCNR Interactive Map if you are interested in fee campgrounds. They have several “rustic” campgrounds which are inexpensive at $10 night, and do not require reservation. These are traditional campgrounds with hand pump water, pit privies and no electricity but often are well maintained and quiet — although the campsites aren’t spread out like back country camping. Many of these campsites are lightly used off-season and are often a good place to spend a night when traveling.

May 11, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Up bright and early, as I’ve decided I want to get in habit of getting up earlier, especially with going back to the office next week with the reduced bus scheduled ๐ŸšŒ and even sooner going up to the Adirondacks before work come Thursday. โ›ฐ Spring is well underway, with only three weeks to 9 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† . Partly sunny and 43 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐Ÿ˜Ž There is a west breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Good morning, it’s springtime, going to warm up quickly, reach 58 degrees later with a stiff breeze.

A nice morning for the walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป. I am going to miss my morning walks when I’m back working downtown ๐Ÿข although I am hoping they bring back ghr express bus ๐Ÿš and I can walk down there in the morning. ๐Ÿ˜ท Then throw my muzzle on and be whisked downtown. Saw both a few red winged black birds, a robin and a gold finch this morning. ๐Ÿฆ

Landlord showed up yesterday with the plumber, ๐Ÿšฝ unannounced and got the various issues fixed with the plumbing. It will be nice having a bathroom sink that works again, no more problems with the toilet, and not the constant wet and leaks in kitchen. It literally took him about two hours, although I ended up working at the library as it involved a lot of banging of pipes ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ”ง and I didn’t want to necessary to let my very much Republican landlord hearing the business calls. Been super busy lately with work. ๐Ÿข Literally, some of these issues should have been addressed a decade ago, but I’ve been like it’s not a big issue until right now. ๐Ÿ›

I wasn’t happy with the unexpected visit by landlord, ๐Ÿงน as things were kind of a mess and pile of dishes in the sink, the floors are unclean and working from home that was terribly distracting. ๐Ÿ›€ I wanted to take a shower yesterday, but I couldn’t do that as he had the pipes all apart in the bathroom. But at least I can do that today. With the warmer weather, I think I am going to go back daily showers, as I tend to get kind of dirty and smelly, and I am going to be in the office more now with things getting back to normal. ๐Ÿ’ฆ I figure the various fixes should save a fair amount of water.

My therapist is not wrong in saying I shouldn’t delay everything and procrastinate. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍โš•๏ธ It really does help with the anxiety to not be such a procrastinator. ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ Well, now I don’t have to clean up things as much, although without out the leaks, and constant mold it might be a lot easier to clean shit up. ๐Ÿ”ฅ I’ve also been told I’ll be less of a fire bug if I get my anxiety levels more under control by being less of a procrastinator, fearing less of the worse case scenarios. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐ŸŒพ And just remember, as I redneck, I’ll always be a redneck, and there ain’t no changing that. Rednecks do redneck things, and that’s totally manageable condition. Or something to that effect he said. ๐Ÿคฃ I am paying $25 an hour plus my insurance another $50 for advice like that. White trash with money, I guess. ๐Ÿ’ต

Chuckling, going past my childhood neighbors house (the long-haired country boys in trailers with the pigs and cows) ๐Ÿท with that great big pile of wood, pallets and debris, they’ve been saving to burn on May 15th when the burn ban is over. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿš’ Besides being real American rednecks, they’re firefighters, they have to sort of follow the law when they burn shit.

Today will have isolated showers after 3pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 59 degrees at 1pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 15th. West wind 7 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1911. 0.5 inches of snow fell back in 1907.โ„

Should be a real nice day for sure, although a bit cool with breeze. ๐Ÿ˜Ž But a ton of sunshine. But the best is yet to come as we push towards the weekend and things start to get nicer. I am going to work from home today I think, ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ’ป as the plumbing is fixed. As was going to work in the office either today or tomorrow to make sure the equipment is still working and my ID badge still works, etc. ๐Ÿ’ณ but there really is no need when I can be home enjoying the fresh air. I think things will be fine next week, I’ll just bring my laptop in case things are down in the office. ๐Ÿ’ป Between the wi-fi they have there and my hotspot I should be good. I always used to joke about being cruel and unusual punishment to have to work downtown on nice days, even if work pays for my big jacked up truck, my guns, my fishing pole and all the stuff I like to burn up in the woods. ๐Ÿค‘ Speaking of which, today is pay day.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.4° from the due south horizon (-5.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:27 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (289°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (296°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:07 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 12 seconds with dusk around 8:38 pm, which is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:19 pm. At sunset, look out for possible pop up showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 50 degrees. Bring your rain coat, prepare to get wet. ๐Ÿ’ง You’ve been warned. โš ๏ธ There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 29 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 13 seconds over yesterday.

I told John Wolcott I’d be coming over today ๐Ÿ”Ž but I don’t think that’s likely to be with my work schedule. I should think about getting packed starting today or this evening ๐Ÿ’ผ for camp especially if I’m going over to John’s house tomorrow. I could go grocery shopping tomorrow at lunch for camp โ›บ but that’s a risky proposition as I often get busy with work midday ๐Ÿ•› and meetings get called. I do want to have most of the supplies I need as Charlie John in Spectulator is a great store but expensive.

Tonight will have isolated showers between 10pm and 11pm. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 40 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 24th. West wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2020, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 37 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1969.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, scattered showers, mainly after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 69. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 45 at 7pm. Sunday, scattered showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 70. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 47 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 71 degrees.

I am thinking I will head north on Thursday, before work ๐Ÿ’ป and work from Speculator, camp somewhere nearby on Thursday night, and then somewhere a bit more remote come Friday evening through Sunday evening. Probably work in Speculator Thursday, Friday and Monday. Tuesday I have be back in office, suit and tie. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ I expect to be in the office a lot more soon, so I figure get out and enjoy it while I still can. โ›บ I was thinking about Madison County, as they won’t have black flies there, but maybe mosquitos. I really want to paddle Nine Mile Swamp, and maybe also around Hyde Bay at Glimmerglass. ๐Ÿ›ถ Plus good bird watching at the Rogers Center ๐Ÿฆ, and the rich smell of fresh farm dirt in Sherburne. ๐Ÿฎ I am thinking maybe either the following weekend or after the Memorial Day Weekend. The thing is if I go out there, I can only stay three nights without a camping permit. ๐ŸŽซ Plus fewer options to go shooting in woods. ๐Ÿ”ซ No idea on Memorial Day Weekend, depends on the weather. I might do the Green Mountains, as I know a few places where I have a good cell service up there for work or maybe I’ll tent camp for a few nights locally. ๐Ÿ“ฑ Just need to plan things out, so I don’t have to be in office right around then. And to have enough solar to keep everything running smoothly.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until 9 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:26 pm. Good weather for going down to the park with a book. ๐Ÿ“• Or swimming at the Potholers. ๐ŸŠ‍โ™€๏ธ On that day in 2020, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 68 and 41 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 76 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1918.

Springtime on the Trail

May 5, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  ! At least now if you are vaccinated you can feel relatively safe going out if that’s your thing. If I do anything it will just heating up some of those taquitos I got from Wally World last week. Classy. ๐ŸŒฏ Three weeks to Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• ๐ŸŒธ. Cloudy, damp and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 51 degrees. We got another good soaker last night again. The skies will clear tomorrow around noontime.

Yesterday, I texted the landlord about getting various plumbing repairs done. ๐Ÿ›  My therapist says I shouldn’t delay on getting such repairs done and he’s right – delay just means additional problems down the road, rent has gone up and my lease has just been renewed. ๐Ÿšฝ My therapist also says my procrastination on too many things in my life feeds my anxiety and deferred maintenance and avoiding unpleasant things today means things are more unpleasant tomorrow. ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿป‍โš•๏ธ I should also get a yearly physical, establish a more regular appointment with my doctor and get my eyes ๐Ÿ‘€ checked. Maybe next week. I’m paying money for these sessions, I really should do my damnedest to follow his advice.

I’m ended up going down to the library ๐Ÿ“š yesterday afternoon to work, not because I really needed the data for work but I like not having to watch the data meter on my laptop. ๐Ÿ–ฅ While having mobile broadband works well enough for me it’s kind of just nice to not have to be careful. I am going to be working downtown more in the coming weeks, so I’ve decided on in two weeks to save $10 or so dollars ๐Ÿ’ต a month by reducing my hotspot plan down. That will balance out the higher costs of the bus fares.

Today will have times of rain, mainly before 5pm. The rain could be heavy at times. ๐ŸŒง High of 58 degrees at 1pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 17th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 10am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind around 7 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Cold and wet, but at least it will be warm enough to have the windows open. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1900.โ„

This morning is rain-free but I expect much more later. ๐ŸŒง I will work from home, and just do what I need as I have plenty of bandwidth built up and it wouldn’t be nice to go outside. This evening I’ll probably run to store to pick up some supplies. Also want to continue doing some more cleaning. Both because the landlord will be coming over and because things are getting kind of dirty and they need to get cleaner. ๐Ÿงน just there Plus I’m trying to go through some clutter and getting it cleaned up — I figure probably in a wet or two I’ll be up in the woods, and it’s a great opportunity to get rid of confidential papers in the fire. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Stuff burns, yeap.

Coming back from my walk, I noticed something stinky in my downstairs. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ I took out the garbage, been a week and half since I did that. But I don’t think that was it. I did some more cleaning, and sprayed some air freshener. I might go to store and pick up some air freshers or something, I can’t find what got spilled and is rotting. ๐Ÿคฎ Maybe it’s an excuse to do more of a deep clean to everything today when I have downtime. Just trying to get more cleanliness and order into my life.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 63.7° from the due south horizon (-7.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:21 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (287°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (294°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:00 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 9 seconds with dusk around 8:31 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:10 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 52 degrees. The dew point will be 46 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 23 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain before 7pm, then scattered showers between 7pm and midnight. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 44 degrees at 4am. Typical for tonight. Northwest wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1969.

Thinking tomorrow or Friday I’ll work in the office downtown. ๐Ÿข I get tired of being home all the time, and if the landlord is going to be over here making repairs it will likely be noisy and disruptive. I could work at the library but I think I’d rather just work downtown. I told John Wolcott if I’m going to be downtown tomorrow, I will go over to his house. ๐Ÿ”Ž

Cool this weekend but Sunday should be sunny. ๐ŸŒž Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 59. Typical average high for the weekend is 67 degrees. I am staying in town this weekend but if next weekend is good I might go to Central NY I’m thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ. Won’t be the black flies there. Maybe do a long weekend, depending if I remote work with my hotpsot and laptop, assuming there is plenty of sun for the solar. Maybe Saturday will be a walk to Five Rivers, and then Sunday a hike somewhere else. ๐Ÿฆ

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 8:21 pm with dusk at 8:55 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot, mostly sunny and temperatures between 90 and 64 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 72 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 2010.

East Branch in Evening

May 3, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again for this first week of May. ๐ŸŒท Not going to be a real nice week but we are getting caught up on the rain โ˜”. Two weeks to Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ. Mostly cloudy and 51 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 49 degrees. The skies will clear Thursday around 2 am.

Not a terrible morning, ๐Ÿฅž had a nice breakfast with pancakes and lots of frozen pineapple. Out for my morning walk now. ๐Ÿ˜ท Its nice that being fully vaccinated ๐Ÿ’‰ that I don’t have to wear my muzzle any more outdoors. Yes, I’m aware that means life returning back closer to normal although truth be told, I think the world has changed.

Finally got my shorts and t-shirts out yesterday. ๐Ÿ‘• Mainly because I was running low on clothes, but also because it’s finally got warm enough to be a bit more comfortable and save on the amount of wash I have. ๐Ÿšฟ I am looking forward to the nicer weather, although not so much the really hot weather of summer, although I expect I will be working in office more in coming weeks, and I’ll have to try to plan my weeks so I’m in the office on the really sweltering days. ๐Ÿข

Yesterday, I went out for a walk at Papscannane Island Nature Preserve ๐Ÿฆ and saw a lot of birds. I like going down to the river that way. It’s not too far from home. This time I didn’t go to Aldis ๐Ÿช mainly because I needed some supplies from Walmart, so that’s where I ended up shopping. ๐Ÿ“ Got lots of good frozen fruit for my pancakes and shit. Didn’t have any last week, as I didn’t get any before going camping as you can’t really have frozen things up at camp. ๐Ÿฝ Then I went out to the folks house for dinner.

Last night, in five seconds the dog last night shredded my freebee ball cap I got from work. ๐Ÿงข I wasn’t happy about that. Then he had my camera bag and camera in his mouth, but I pulled it out of that and yelled at him. ๐Ÿ˜  What an ass. ๐Ÿถ People ask why I hate pets so much — mainly because you can’t eat them and they are dead weight. It was kind of a nice hat but I think I will have to get a Carhartt one at Tractor Supply.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly after 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 63 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 27th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 2pm. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 2001. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 63.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-7.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:19 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (286ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (293ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:58 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 8:28 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:07 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 59 degrees. The dew point will be 52 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 11 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 26 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers, mainly after 8pm. ๐ŸŒง Low of 52 degrees at 4am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 27th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 6pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Southeast wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1985.

Kind of an unsettled weekend ahead. ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 59. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 61. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 42 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 67 degrees. Not sure if I am going to get out of town this weekend. ๐Ÿก I’ve been thinking about a Central NY trip, as there won’t be the black flies there but maybe not this weekend.

Been thinking about reducing my data plan down, ๐Ÿ“ฑ now that I am going to be working downtown more. ๐Ÿข I was going to fully get rid of the 20 gb hot spot and unlimited mobile data come the expiration I three weeks with the nicer weather, the library fully reopening and work returning to full time downtown. Not sure if all those things will be true by then, I will revalue as time draws nearer. One option I’m considering is to save ten or 12 bucks by going to the 10 gb Hotspot plan with the unlimited mobile. I’m just not sure if Zoom is going away tomorrow.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until the average high is 70, and it’s Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ when the sun will be setting at 8:13 pm with dusk at 8:45 pm. Good day for a bonfire, get rid of all that accumulated burnable junk — the burn ban will be over, so get your big bonfire on. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Hot enough fire, that plastic crap doesn’t smell one bit. You didn’t hear that from me, I’m totally blaming the TikTok. ๐Ÿ“ผ On that day in 2020, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 74 and 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 2017.

Glidden Marsh and Oxbow Pond

May 2, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday! โ›ช First Sunday in May. Feels kind of cold but definitely very blue with a few clouds pushing in. Next Sunday is Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍ . I think I’ve been called a mother a few times before, and your mother won’t be happy if you don’t remind her next week. Partly sunny and 51 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž There is a south breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

Yesterday, I discovered the wonderful world of TikTok. ๐Ÿ‘ช A lot of silly redneck videos, with well, rednecks doing redneck things like driving around jacked up trucks, milking cows, spreading manure, burning trash, shooting guns and hunting/fishing. All with thick accents and lots of black smoke. Fun stuff. ๐Ÿ”ซ ๐Ÿ”ฅ ๐Ÿค  ๐Ÿฎ ๐Ÿ„ I just like seeing the other world where people aren’t leaving the life dictated by the greenies, where they have land and live their own life without so much regulation and feeling like they have to be virtuous every hour of their life.

I also went for a couple hour walk out to and around Five Rivers. ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿธ It was nice with a lot of new birds compared to even a few weeks ago. While there certainly were song sparrows and starling around, there also was another bird I couldn’t easily identify and Merlin isn’t coming up with answers. I am going to study the photos I took and take another stab with the Merlin Bird Identification app. ๐Ÿฆ

Then I got looking at various properties in Pennsylvania on the Land and Farm website. ๐Ÿก Not because I’m in any rush to buy land or a cabin, but I wanted to get a better understanding of what is available at what price. It’s good to keep my focus on the goal, even if Pennsylvania isn’t necessarily how far south or west I will end up. That said, Penns has so many advantages over New York when it comes to gun laws and lack of restrictions on open burning and fires, and the backwoods culture is wonderful. ๐Ÿ”ฅ But there are many other states out there, and even far more open space when you get into the Appalachians, Midwest or even the true west. Folks have so much fun on the Tik-Tok. ๐Ÿ˜ I love that website, it really is inspirational and wonderful and funny as shit.

Today will have a chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Sunny through mid morning, then becoming cloudy ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 67 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 6th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 4pm. South wind around 8 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 2018. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

I am going to hike this morning at Papscanee Island Nature Preserve this morning and look at the birds ๐Ÿฆ and then maybe later go to Walmart to pick up some supplies. ๐Ÿ‘œ I was going to go shopping on Thursday, too busy, Friday, too busy, Saturday I discovered TikTok and wasted my evening looking at properties on the Land and Farm website. LOL! ๐Ÿ“ฑ But it’s a nice morning, so I’m going to do that first and then shower ๐Ÿšฟ before going out to the folks house. ๐Ÿฅž Had a nice stack of apple pancakes from some mix I bought for camping but ended up eating at home. A lot of sugar, but sometimes you just gotta be bad.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 62.9° from the due south horizon (-8° vs. 6/21). The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:18 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (286°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (292°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:57 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 8:27 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:06 pm. As previously noted, next Sunday is Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍ when the sun will be setting at 8:04 pm with dusk at 8:36 pm. On that day in 2020, we had cold day that was partly sunny and temperatures between 45 and 33 degrees. I was camping up on the East Branch, being super naughty when Coronavirus Unkles were telling everybody to be prisoners to their own homes. Stay home, jack-off, stay safe! I think it snowed that night. Just a dusting through. โ„๏ธ But no black flies. The previous year wasn’t much better when I was up at Stewart Landing, though there was black flies. ๐Ÿœ Typically, the high temperature is 67 degrees. We hit a record high of 93 back in 1979.

Dirt Road

May 1, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy May Day 2021 ๐Ÿ•Š ! All the socialists of the world will rejoice. ๐ŸŒน As will black flies. ๐Ÿœ Is there much of a difference? I’m getting brainwashed from work. Five weeks to 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ . Summer is coming. Or so we tell ourselves, and our nation is plunged towards summer every day. Can’t stop the rotation of earth around the sun. Overcast and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the northwest ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 29 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The skies will clear around 9 am.

There was a dusting of snow in 1978.โ„

Not sure what my plans are for the day, but I do want to shower ๐Ÿ›€ and then go out somewhere. ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ I am really running low on supplies so I should think about going shopping. ๐Ÿ‘œ Now I just need to remember to bring my muzzle ๐Ÿ˜ท should I want to run into the store, as I’m not always wearing a bandana when I’m outside, because I am fully vaccinated. ๐Ÿ’‰ Didn’t have a mask when I went for my evening walk, which is why I am drinking black coffee โ˜• this morning as I’m out of milk. ๐Ÿฎ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 62.6° from the due south horizon (-8.3° vs. 6/21).
