April 14, 2019 Night

Good evening! Modestly heavy rain and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a east-northeast breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 48 degrees. Evidently, I’m not going for my evening walk tonight. I did however ride the excerise bike for about an hour watching videos from Keith Fink’s Farm YouTube channel and one from Computerfile. The skies will clear tomorrow around 11 pm.

I have to admit I’ve kind of gotten to like watching YouTube videos I’ve downloaded for watching at home. That youtube-dl script is pretty awesome for that. ๐Ÿ“น While I don’t watch commercials television or professionally produced shows I do like watching videos and hunting, trapping and fishing, farming and off-grid living. And sometimes camping. It makes time riding on the excerise bike ๐Ÿšฒ go by quickly. While in many ways I prefer podcasts, videos can sometimes take you places where you can’t go just by audio. Plus the kind of videos I watch on my excerise bike aren’t the rot your brain like on commercial television. Sure, probably watching a farmer birth calves or seed ๐ŸŒฑ oats isn’t intectually stimulating but it’s fascinating.

Today was another automobile free day for me. ๐Ÿš˜ I walked out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center and then took the bus ๐Ÿš and walked over to John Wolcott’s house. ๐Ÿ“‚ I didn’t find a lot of interesting files over the four and half hours of study and sorting this time but you never know what you are going to find. I prefer walking ๐Ÿšถ and transit when I’m in town not only to save money ๐Ÿ’ต but because you see and experience more on foot.

Tonight will have showers, with thunderstorms also possible after midnight. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 55 degrees at 9pm. 16 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around June 2nd. Now if it wasn’t raining it would be a really nice evening. Warming through the night. Maximum dew point of 55 at 1am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ East wind 9 to 14 mph becoming south after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1940.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 85% illuminated. The moon will set at 4:26 am. The Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• is on Thursday night with a mostly cloudy skies then chance of showers. The sun will rise at 6:14 am with the first light at 5:45 am, which is one minute and 38 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 36 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers, mainly before 8am. Temperature rising to near 60 by 10am, then falling to around 47 during the remainder of the day. Breezy, with a southwest wind 7 to 12 mph becoming west 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became rain by afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 2003. 2.4 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„

I am not looking forward to defensive driving tomorrow because I generally think motoring ๐Ÿ is an unpleasant experience but it’s good to learn about the latest laws and safety techniques. So many of the safety videos are boring or obnoxious. Lots of time though to doodle and daydream a bit. But I like saving 10% on my car insurance.

I’m going to research other insurance companies and plans though and possibly look at a more affordable plan before my insurance expires at the end of the month of September. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ It’s important to have good coverage but I’m not sure if my plan – which is the same as my parents have had for decades with minor changes still makes sense for me. $920 a year for insurance when my truck is no longer new, I don’t drive daily and I’ve never gotten a ticket ๐ŸŽซ or chargeable accident seems excessive. I might look at reducing my liability insurance and under insured motorists a bit – I would hate to be sued in court beyond what my insurance will cover in a severe crash but I realize such a crash caused by me is fairly unlikely because I primarily drive on rural roads and not in congested areas.

The long range doesn’t look that great for Easter weekend. Major bummer! ๐Ÿ˜ž No camping Easter Weekend ๐Ÿฐ I guess. Next Saturday, showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Maximum dew point of 55 at 6am. Next Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 61 degrees.

I am most likely looking at camping โ›บ in two weeks possibly taking off the Thursday and Friday of that week. I’ll miss the Save the Pine Bush Hike but I’d rather spend more time up in the wilderness as it’s been a long time since I’ve spent time overnight in the woods. ๐Ÿ”ฅ A nice campfire, and waking up to a sunrise in the wilderness would be wonderful.

In four weeks on May 12 the sun will be setting at 8:07 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 23 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 50 and 48 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 68 and 46 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 1881.

Looking ahead, Easter ๐Ÿฐ is in 1 week, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 3 weeks, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 4 weeks, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 9 weeks, National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ is in 3 months (black flies will be gone by then), Altamont Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 4 months, Sunset Before 7:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 20 weeks, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 23 weeks and Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 26 weeks.

April 12, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Grilled Cheese Day ๐Ÿง€! Tonight actually might be a good night for Grilled Cheese and Soup. Next Friday is Good Friday โœ๏ธ. Cloudy and 45 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear tomorrow around 11 am.

Not a half bad walk ๐Ÿšถ down to the park and ride. Cloudy but mild. Things are starting to green a bit on medians ๐ŸŒพ but it’s not summer yet. Some years spring has sprung at this point in the city but not this year. But with freezing temperatures becoming increasingly rare in the city its certain to happen at some point soon.

Taking a hybrid bus downtown today, which is nice because they have nice smooth stops ๐Ÿšฆ at the red lights along the Delmar bypass. Hybrids have a very good braking via magnetic force.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly after 5pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 55 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 9th. Maximum dew point of 47 at 6pm. South wind 6 to 11 mph increasing to 13 to 18 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 84 was set in 1977. 3.3 inches of snow fell back in 1962.โ„

I didn’t wear my rain jacket, so I’m certain it will rain. โ˜” Just hopefully not while I’m waiting for the bus in the evening. I prefer more sunshine today but at least tomorrow is supposed to be quite nice.

The sun will set at 7:34 pm with dusk around 8:03 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for a chance at rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 55 degrees. The dew point will be 47 degrees. Breezy, 16 mph breeze โ›… from the south. Today will have 13 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 4am, then showers likely. ๐ŸŒง Low of 53 degrees at 1am. 16 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 52 at 4am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 9 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1874.

I got to run to the bank today ๐Ÿฆ so I can get $1 bills for the transfer station and barber ๐Ÿ’ˆ shop as I probably should try to squeeze in a hair cut tomorrow. Going to be a busy Saturday but nice weather at least.

As previously noted, next Friday is Good Friday โœ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 7:42 pm with dusk at 8:11 pm. On that day in 2018, we had cold weather but partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 44 and 34 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 60 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1976.

I still don’t know if I’m heading out of town next weekend. ๐Ÿ˜ŽForecast doesn’t look that great, I might wait another week until more of the snow and ice is gone up north. I have the time to take off to make the following weekend a three day weekend if necessary. โ›บ

Pile Abutments

April 11, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 46 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. Mild enough that when I went down to the library for the Wi-Fi I sat outside on the park bench. ๐Ÿ“š Got progressively cloudy as the day went on with the sky very dark around rush hour. The skies will clear Saturday around 8 am.

Busy tough day at work. What got done and needed to happen got done so I got paid. ๐Ÿ’ผ But in many ways it was a long day. At least I got the replacement sensor for the truck so hopefully that will work well going forward.

Traffic on the bus ride ๐Ÿš home wasn’t bad. Made it home around the normal time and saved money ๐Ÿ’ต too boot as it was a free bus ride as I had already ridden three buses for the day and the rest are free for the day. ๐Ÿ†“

It looks like they finally cleaned up the hotel ๐Ÿฉ that burned on Southern Boulevard about two years later and the new suburban development should be errected there. Apparently they never discovered the reason for the fire but I suspect the owner torched it to reduce asbestos abatement costs. That’s my thoughts ๐Ÿ’ญ and we know who profits over their asbestos landfill – the city.

Before heading over to the library I cleaned out the refrigerator and found a half empty bottle of wine ๐Ÿท from Finger Lakes Wine Night at the Capitol a year ago and drank it so I could recycle it. The refrigerator is cleaned out and do are the bottles and cans โ™ป and the wine was still good with the pasta despite being first opened 11 months ago. The wine was remarkably good with the pasta although if I hadn’t gotten it for free I doubt I would have drunk it. First alcohol in like three weeks. But now I can recycle the bottle ๐Ÿถ.

Fixed some bugs ๐Ÿž in the internal blog code and made some more orthophotos up at the library. If it had been a bit nicer with a later sunset I probably would have just gone to the park.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 39 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 19th. Light southeast wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 13 occurred back in 1874.

Tonight will have a First Quarter with 53% illuminated. The moon will set at 2:06 am. Not going to see much tonight with the clouds. The Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ is next Thursday. Only pink if you wear rose ๐ŸŒน colored glasses. ๐Ÿ‘“ The sun will rise at 6:19 am with the first light at 5:50 am, which is one minute and 40 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 44 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 57 degrees at 5pm. Typical for Tomorrow. South wind 10 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 84 was set in 1977. 3.3 inches of snow fell back in 1962.โ„

I might open up the windows tomorrow morning as I always like the fresh air. ๐Ÿ”ณ Next week I think I’ll be able to have the windows open most of the week, certainly Sunday.

Saturday will be the best part of the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers, mainly before 7am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Southwest wind 6 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 53 at 6am. Sunday, rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Doesn’t sound like a real wash out Sunday but not a lot of sun. Typical average high for the weekend is 57 degrees.

My weekend plans remain the same – transfer station, brake switch, pack camping gear โ›บ. I’ll have to see if I can go out to my parents house on Saturday. Sunday I’ll probably stay home or if I go out it just will be to the store for groceries. Monday is going to suck with Defensive Driving. I really need to look at other good insurers like Gieco or Progressive as even with the discount my rates just keep jumping up. My truck is getting old and while I have good coverage to protect my hard earned savings, the rates are getting a bit steep.

So I have the brake switch and I’ve been studying about four or five YouTube videos on how to pull off the clip and the module. ๐Ÿฅ It doesn’t look hard but I don’t want to mess shit up by doing bone headed things. I just want my cruise control back.

In four weeks on May 9 the sun will be setting at 8:04 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 35 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had sunny and temperatures between 82 and 53 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 67 and 45 degrees. The record high of 93 degrees was set back in 1979.

My electric and gas bill fell to $61 last month because I had the heat off most of last month. That’s a pretty big drop from February when it was $104 and I started to think I was a soldier on the war on poverty. ๐Ÿ”Œ Knowing how fees are, probably $50 is just fees for being connected to the grid and $9 is the water heater and the refrigerator. Or something like that.

I retired the debt on the credit card ๐Ÿ’ณ that had to be retired and the state tax payment comes out on Monday. Tuesday I get paid by the state which is good. ๐Ÿ‘‹ If the weather is good next weekend I should be able to afford to get out of town but I’m also fine with staying in town and waiting another week for more snow melt and ๐Ÿ’ง and potentially warmer weather.

Looking ahead, Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ is in 1 week, Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• is also in 1 week, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 5 weeks, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 10 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 12 weeks, August ๐ŸŒป is in 16 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 5 months and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 25 weeks.

Snow Melt Coming Down the Mountain

April 8, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. The problem is all inside your head she said to me. The answer is simple if you take it logically. Next Monday is Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ. Happy poverty day next week. Cloudy, damp, but no rain right now around 52 degrees in the land of the Delmaritian. โ˜” There is a light south-southeast breeze. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 46 degrees. I’m thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ the rain should start greening up the grass in city. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Hop on the bus Gus, don’t need to discuss much. With the dark skies โ˜ it was had to get going this morning and I sprinted down to the bus stop ๐Ÿšas the bus approached. It’s a Monday but I’m hoping this won’t be too ungodly of a week at work. ๐ŸฆTaking a regular 40 foot bus downtown, Gillig 4175. I had a bit of a headache this morning, which made it tough to get out of bed early.

Today will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 67 degrees at 5pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around May 6th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 2pm. South wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 88 was set in 1929. 4.5 inches of snow fell back in 1907.โ„

Back to work today. Not a pay day today but one next week. I’m fine with that as next Monday is tax day when I pay the state and then the following Tuesday the state pays me a paycheck. ๐Ÿ”„ It’s called recycling. It’s what you do Earth Day that is for the cans and others things that don’t burn well. Granted I always try to do good work for my paycheck, I can’t say the opposite is true. I think I’m signed up for defensive driving that day, I’ll have to check my schedule and take the appropriate day off from work.

I can’t complain that much about the rain โ˜” as things were getting kind of dried out yesterday and there was a brush fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ yesterday up by Tommells Feedlot ๐Ÿฎ or maybe the Clarksville dump and transfer station. While one can say Pete Grannis’ open burning regulations are retarded, you can see the sensibility of the regulations in Virginia that ban burning before six PM when the humidity increases. You can always compost brush or buy a trash can to store trash until it gets wetter out. And keep a hose handy and an eye on whatever you are burning.

At least it was warm enough to leave the windows open all night which made for good sleeping. ๐Ÿ”ฒ 68 degrees in the bedroom when I fell asleep, 61 degrees by morning when I got out of bed. It got up to 74 degrees in my bedroom by afternoon yesterday. Sure beats struggling to keep the heat in the mid 50s in the winter. โ„ I really enjoy the fresh air in them morning. ๐Ÿƒ It’s even better when it’s summer and I’m camping up in the wilderness.

The sun will set at 7:29 pm with dusk around 7:58 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 63 degrees. The dew point will be 48 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 45 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 8th. West wind 5 to 9 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 23 degrees. The record low of 16 occurred back in 1977.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly after noon. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 59 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 16th. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 77 was set in 1991. 13.3 inches of snow fell back in 2000.โ„

Yesterday was kind of a gray day, kind of hazy with thicker clouds in the afternoon. I wouldn’t say it was a bad day, although I hate hazy spring days with the light so defuse it kind of gives me a headache and makes it a bit hard to see as everything is kind of gray. โ˜ I didn’t feel all that great either. Not sick but not well either.

Needless to say, I didnโ€™t go to the Catskills to hike although I did go for a short walk on the rail trail up to Font Grove before turning around and heading home because I was tired of nearly tripping over the dog walkers ๐Ÿถ and getting run over by the cyclist ๐Ÿšด. I don’t go for a walk or out in nature be surrounded by a million people. If I wanted to be in crowds I’d just go downtown like I do for work.

My parents cooked steak and the fixings on the grill for Sunday dinner. ๐Ÿ– It was a nice dinner and they made brownies for desert. Made it home before dark tonight. ๐ŸŒ… That’s good because last night was so dark driving home and there was a shit ton of deer along the road looking to hand out $250 collision deductibles. Fortunately I made it home safely, then hung my clothes in the closet in preparation for the work week.

Did some cleaning on the bathroom ๐Ÿšฝ after buying a new plastic brush and some toilet cleaner. I’ve tried laundry soap but I have better luck with the toilet cleaner. Also cleaned out the shower ๐Ÿšฟ, it was kind of a mess with soap scum. The soap dissolving acid works well. I could probably do a lot more scrubbing throughout my apartment but cleaning really ain’t my fortay. I kind of like my rundown apartment, that’s why I’ve lived here nearly 12 years.

I went for my evening walk and it was warm enough to sit out back for an hour and listen to the spring peepers. ๐Ÿธ Not really loud tonight but they’re singing ๐ŸŽถ their song. No stars โœจ as it was cloudy with the rain pushing in. I thought about buying a case of beer ๐Ÿป for drinking out back but I really don’t like the expense or health consequences of drinking alcohol anymore. Alcohol not only gets you intoxicated and leaves you with a hang over, it’s a carcinogen. ๐Ÿšฌ Plus you get drinking and the next thing you want is a drag on a cigarette and that’s even worse.

As previously noted, next Monday is Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ when the sun will be setting at 7:37 pm with dusk at 8:06 pm. On that day in 2018, we had freezing rain showers, cold, mostly cloudy and temperatures between 36 and 28 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 58 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2003.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 60. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 55. Typical average high for the weekend is 57 degrees.

This next weekend the plan is to take the bottles and cans to the transfer station, โ™ป after cleaning out the refrigerator and searching the bathroom for recyclable cans and bottles. Then I’ll repack my truck for camping โ›บ. I also want to get that new brake switch installed โญ• and hopefully have the cruise control working again on the truck. I don’t know if I will go camping during the following Easter weekend ๐Ÿฐ as the weather currently doesn’t look that great and there is a lot of snow up north but I could change my mind. ๐Ÿ˜€

I am glad that it appears that I can fix the cruise control and problems with getting the truck out of park ๐Ÿ…ฟ by replacing the sub $20 brake switch next weekend. Probability on Saturday if I can get up to GM to buy another switch this week. I like things that are simple and easy to fix.๐Ÿ”ง I hate not having cruise control, as I’m so used to driving with it on all the time as it keeps my truck going at a lawful speed. ๐Ÿš™I’m willing to pay to get it fixed, if replacing the switch doesn’t fix it because having it working is cheaper than a ticket ๐ŸŽซ. The truck is easy to speed in with the highway gearing that makes it want to go faster than is lawful.

I saw yet another cop ๐Ÿ‘ฎ on 32 coming home from my parents tonight. They must be working overtime to pay for the governor’s million dollar pay raise. Must be nice to have a job that you are virtually guaranteed to get million dollars ๐Ÿ’ต after four years. I’d take if offered, invest virtually all of it, buy land out in the country after my first four years as governor and basically retire. I save whatever I can these days and I work hard at my job but I’m not making any million dollars every four years. ๐Ÿ’ฐ

Earth Day is a week from Monday ๐ŸŒŽ so I’ll working that day but maybe the previous day I’ll be up in the wilderness. At least I’ll be riding public transportation to get to work ๐ŸšŒand I always try to avoid waste wherever possible in my own life as money spent on things today is stolen from my future. It annoys me when people talk about how green they are, but consume 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity each month for their 5,000 square foot house, and always have a full trash can each week, even though they wash out their cans and eat organic food, half of which ends up in their composter because it rots before they eat it.

Tonight is the public hearing the county legislature is holding on taxing paper bags. ๐Ÿ“„Liberals think it’s the best thing since sliced bread ๐Ÿž as they have never seen a tax that they don’t like, even though the only benefit of the tax is it means that the county gets a few cents to buy filmsy woven plastic bags with County Executive Dan McCoy’s name to remind people of the importance of the re-election of incumbents.๐Ÿ“ฎ I wrote my legislature, I am not going to waste my time at a public hearing that’s going to be packed with the greenies who already know the legislature will enact this law.

Certainly PAUSE loves the tax, because apparently banning paper bags gives them a bigger boner ๐Ÿ†than saving the Pine Bush from yet another development. I’m just cranky that my county legislator who I didn’t vote for didn’t reply back to my email on this topic. I guess it doesn’t matter that much, I’m planning on using plastic milk crates for bringing home my groceries when the bags are finally banned.๐Ÿ“ฆI think the crates are a much easier way to keep organized and clean for bringing home groceries.

Definitely all and all a good weekend. ๐Ÿ‘I can look in despair at the direction of our country both at the local and federal level, but ultimately each day I’m saving more money ๐Ÿ’ต and taking care of my future even as our world ๐ŸŒ falls apart. I can’t change the world but I can better myself and my future. Plus I’m looking forward to camping โ›บ and traveling in a few weeks. Snow won’t last that much longer up north.

In four weeks on May 6 the sun will be setting at 8:01 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 42 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had rain showers, partly sunny and temperatures between 65 and 54 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 67 and 44 degrees. The record high of 89 degrees was set back in 1930.

Looking ahead, Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ is in 1 weeks, Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ is in 2 weeks, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 7 weeks, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 11 weeks, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 12 weeks, Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ is in 14 weeks, Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 18 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 21 weeks and Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 26 weeks.

 Main Street

April 6, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! My gawd, that was a long work week. Three weeks to Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ. I like trees, they produce wood that is a lot of fun to burn. You know these days I spend a lot of time thinking about fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ much like Blake Shelton. Be safe out there. It’s funny not listening to commercial radio ๐Ÿ“ป much lately I kind of missed out that song until I spotted it the YouTube. See I’m not a complete luddite even if I spend too many hours listening to Phil Ochs.

This morning is oh so clawdy, dreary and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are some patches of snow on the ground but don’t wait, it won’t last. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThe skies will clear around 1 pm. Hopefully sooner as I want to take a walk out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center ๐ŸŒฒ before I go over to my niece’s birthday party ๐ŸŽ‰.

Last night was pretty cold and dreary, I ended up staying home, first working on some mapping stuff then working an electronics project, namely hooking back up the LED strip I had that broke last fall and needed reassembly. ๐Ÿ’ก I didn’t ride the exercise bike as my neighbor was home and I didn’t want to bother him. I thought seriously about turning on the heat but a expect shortly that won’t be necessary.โ™จ

Now while I wait for things clear out, I’m riding the exercise bike ๐Ÿšฒ while I work on this blog post. My neighbor is at work now so I don’t have to worry about making too much noise. ๐Ÿ”• At some point I’ll make breakfast ๐Ÿณ up, I’m leaning towards pancakes. I haven’t had them much lately because I usually don’t like baby sitting ๐Ÿ‘ถ the stove while having breakfast. I do fancier meals while I’m at camp. Eggs cooked on charcoal are always good. Plus it’s another opportunity to have a fire. I guess I really have spring fever. ๐Ÿ˜

Today will start out much too cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 60 degrees at 5pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 18th. South wind 6 to 13 mph becoming west in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1921. 17.3 inches of snow fell back in 1982.โ„

Today I’m off to Five Rivers in a bit once it warms up ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿฆ then I’m going up to my niece’s birthday party ๐ŸŽ‰. I’m hoping the sun will be out soon and then I’ll leave for Five Rivers. โ›… I have to head home around 12:30 pm so I have time to shower ๐Ÿšฟ and get ready for the party.

The sun will set at 7:27 pm with dusk around 7:56 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 54 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 59 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

The sign on my wall says one month until the 8 pm sunset. I can wait until it’s nice enough to go to the park after work. ๐Ÿ“™ I’m actually hoping it warms up enough later to open up the windows, it seems like we really haven’t had our first real spring thaw of the year.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 37 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 13th. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light west after midnight. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of 13 occurred back in 1982.

That’s a lot more reasonable for a change. ๐ŸธThat said, probably still too cold to sit out back tonight with the dampness in the air from yesterdays rain. โ˜” At least the fire danger is lower.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 4pm. 13 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around May 10th. I’ll take mid May weather in April. Maybe I’ll finally be able to open up the windows. South wind 3 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 2010. 3.2 inches of snow fell back in 1896.โ„

Different forecasts call for different weather tomorrow. ๐Ÿ˜• I really not sure what it all means. I’m still thinking about ๐Ÿ’ญ hiking Platte Clove Road but only if it’s reasonably nice. ๐Ÿšถ

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ when the sun will be setting at 7:51 pm with dusk at 8:21 pm. I was watching a video ๐Ÿ“น of a farm tractor ๐Ÿšœ PTO driven wood splitter the other day. Or was it hydraulic driven? Regardless…. Cool toy. There are a lot neat machinery driven by tractor PTOs. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, cold, partly cloudy and temperatures between 50 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

I tell you there are a lot of neat toys out there for landowners. ๐Ÿšœ Machinery that has a lot of important purposes around the farm and rural homestead and makes life easier for those who work outside. ๐Ÿ’ต I keep saving and investing, working hard to get ahead at work and towards a better tomorrow. It’s tuff to get ahead but I try to save everyday and note the benefits of compound interest and market growth. Urban New York doesn’t have to be my home forever.

In four weeks on May 4 the sun will be setting at 7:59 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 45 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny, warm, rain showers and temperatures between 84 and 58 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 66 and 44 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 1944.

I am very glad that May is less than four weeks away and that the weather rapidly moderates come spring. โ›บ I so look forward to night’s in the wilderness next to the campfire and also nights with the windows open. I really miss spending time in the wilderness. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ

Looking ahead, Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ is in 3 weeks, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 4 weeks, Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 6 weeks, June ๐Ÿน is in 8 weeks, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 11 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 14 weeks, Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš is in 15 weeks, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 20 weeks and Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 24 weeks.

Sun Finally Shows

April 4, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Feels more like a Friday to me, although I have to go to work tomorrow. That’s what happens when you work Sunday. Two weeks to the Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ. Might even start to see some signs of spring at that point. Mostly sunny and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 11 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Not a terrible day, fairly mild I still have the heat off. ๐Ÿ˜Ž May turn it back up later on though and the windows are closed as it’s not expected to be super warm. Certainly nice and sunny. I enjoyed my walk ๐Ÿšถ down to the express bus ๐Ÿš. Riding a coach bus to work today with nice soft seats. ๐Ÿ’บ Riding in comfort for sure.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 50 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 29th. Breezy, with a west wind 9 to 14 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. The wind will make it feel fairly cold but the sun โ˜€ will help.

Continued red flag ๐Ÿšฉ conditions as it’s spring, dry and windy. So Pennsylvania rednecks shouldn’t be burning ๐Ÿ”ฅ their paper plates and plastic milk bottles today. Save them for after the rain, get lots of beer and big ol’ bonfire. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 52 degrees. The record high of 79 was set in 1950. 4.3 inches of snow fell back in 2016.โ„

The sun will set at 7:25 pm with dusk around 7:53 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 44 degrees. Breezy, 17 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest. With that wind, probably too cold to go to the park after work. Today will have 12 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 22 degrees at 4am. 11 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 7th. Cold but not quite record breaking cold. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light after midnight. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of 14 occurred back in 2016. It still can get pretty cold this time of year.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of rain and snow before 11am, then rain likely. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 42 degrees at 1pm. 12 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 11th. Light east wind becoming south 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1928. 1.1 inches of snow fell back in 1914.โ„

Definitely going to be a cold and wet day tomorrow. ๐Ÿ’ฆ I am not camping, so I don’t mind. Sure, another nice day would be nice, but at least it will reduce the fire danger, provide moisture that with the increasingly mild weather will eventually make the city start to green up a bit. ๐Ÿž Yesterday, I went for a walk in Washington Park and there is no signs of the tulips, ๐ŸŒทand honestly things looked kind of barren with the snow gone, but things still brown and no leaves on the trees.๐ŸŽ‹ Honestly, I didn’t expect it to look like spring in the park, but I was hoping maybe to see a few more signs of spring.

Yesterday, I went over to John Wolcott’s house, continued going through his files. ๐Ÿ—ƒ Some of them were kind of interesting, especially the ones about thePryun Library that Erastus Corning and the DOT insisted had to be torn down for the flyover ramp for Interstate 787, even though they could have located it a few feet to the west for minimal costs, and remain within engineering standards. Some of the old dutch documents aren’t much of an interest, but anything involving Mayor Corning is very fascinating.๐Ÿ› The 1960s were a very interesting time in America.

When I got home, I was pretty tired and the wind was whipping around, ๐ŸŒช so I skipped my evening walk. Sure, I was a bad person, but I was quite happy to just lay back in bed. I opened up Facebook, jumped into the swamp, and got so disgusted by what I saw on Facebook, I closed the app. ๐Ÿ’ป I don’t even know why I go on there anymore. Maybe I’ve just become more conservative in recent years, or maybe it’s that my liberal friends have become more obnoxious. I don’t know.

I guess I shouldn’t avoid threatening ideas, but going on Facebook just makes me sick. ๐ŸคขLiterally makes me want to run down to the bathroom and puke out my brains.ย  I mean I like looking at the cute pictures of cows and hunting stuff, ๐Ÿ„ and seeing what my old friends from high school are up to, but so much of what is on there now is either advertising or abusively obnoxious political posts.

The weekend forecast continues to improve. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, a chance of rain before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 59. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 61. Maximum dew point of 40 at 1pm. Not a drop of humidity in that air, but that’s to be expected this time of year. Typical average high for the weekend is 54 degrees.

Spring is rapidly approaching, although there is going to be a lot of snow and ice in the mountains, and mud in lower elevations. I think I’m going to do something fun this weekend — maybe a good hike ๐Ÿšถand and some fishing on Sunday. ๐ŸŽฃ Depending on how nice it is on Saturday morning, I might go for hike on rail trail ๐Ÿš‚ although I’m not sure how early it will clear out or how early I’ll be out of bed.๐Ÿ›

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ when the sun will be setting at 7:41 pm with dusk at 8:10 pm. On that day in 2018, we had cloudy and temperatures between 47 and 33 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 60 degrees. We hit a record high of 90 back in 1976.

Two weeks from now I’ll probably be on my trip to the Adirondacks or Central NY, although I still haven’t requested the time off.๐Ÿ• I am on the fence where to go — I kind of would like to go to the Adirondacks and the North Country, but not if there still is a lot of snow and ice to deal with. The alternative would be a mix between Charles Baker and Stoney Pond State Forest, maybe heading south to Balsam Pond, hitting up several trout streams, and more rural rather then mountain country. I mean still have plenty of time to visit the Adirondacks before summer is over. I don’t want to deal with camping with snow and ice.

In four weeks on May 2 the sun will be setting at 7:56 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 48 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had hot, mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 90 and 45 degrees. Last year was the record high. Typically, you have temperatures between 65 and 43 degrees.

While it may not feel like it this week, ๐ŸŒทthe truth is much warmer weather is likely just around the corner. Ninty degrees days are not out of the question nor is heat and humidity although I hope things green up before then so there is some shade to enjoy outside by then. And maybe a few weeks without the black flies. ๐Ÿœ

Last night, I got talking to somebody about the plastic bag ban. They were worried about what they would use for trash bags, ๐Ÿ—‘ once single-use shopping plastic bags were banned. I got thinking about it some more — and pointed out they could wash out the trash cans like people did in the olden days, without any problem. Seems like a simple solution for a silly problem. I don’t get why they always have to have trash bag liners.

Probably when I have my off-grid property, I’ll use animal feed sacks for the kitchen trash that’s going out to the burn barrel (the stuff like wrappers, bottles and packages contaminated by food), and just either use bread bags or wash out the compost container. It’s amazing how many feed bags even small hobby farms end up throwing out. It just seems like there is much too much disposable, single-use plastic out there. ๐Ÿ›No sense paying for something your going to burn, after all.๐Ÿ”ฅ Maybe that’s the future, but I’m still focused on it.

After finding a plastic bag in the Pine Bush ๐ŸŒฒ then seeing a bunch more in the trees, I’ve really started to come around on this issue — they really need to go — as they don’t rot in nature without being burnt. Sure, I’m not happy with them charging paper bags, as I don’t always remember to have my reusable bags with me, but I’m also thinking that using a plastic milk crates, might actually be a much easier way to handle groceries. Reusable bags tend to get dirty quickly, and are somewhat flimsy, but if I could stack groceries in a crate that can be washed off, that might work really well. Groceries would be less likely to spill or get damaged when packaged in a plastic create.

Looking ahead, Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ is in 2 weeks, Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 2 weeks, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is a month away, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 6 weeks, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 11 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 3 months, August ๐ŸŒป is in 17 weeks and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 26 weeks.

South East from Farm Tower

April 2, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Mostly sunny and 25 degrees at the bus stop near in Valero. ๐Ÿ˜Ž One of the coldest April mornings in recent memory, โ„ although not record breaking cold. At least it’s sunny. With the sun, and slight south breeze at 6 mph, it doesn’t feel bad at all ๐Ÿƒ. Things will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 52 degrees at 4pm. After the cold weather, the mercury will warm up for weather that is typical for today. South wind 6 to 16 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 77 was set in 2010. 8.0 inches of snow fell back in 1924.โ„

The sun will set at 7:22 pm with dusk around 7:51 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 48 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 33 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2018, we had partly cloudy in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 16 occurred back in 1954.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers between 2pm and 3pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 56 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 10th. Breezy, with a light west wind increasing to 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 79 was set in 1981. 11.0 inches of snow fell back in 1891.โ„

Yesterday was mostly a recovery day after the 24 hours I worked on Sunday into Monday. I really can’t complain some my colleagues in the budget side of things put in a whole lot more hours.๐Ÿ˜ด The good news is that I’ll have comp time I can use if I want to take some time off to make a long Easter weekend for a camping and fishing trip.โ›บ

My recovery from the lack of sleep was difficult yesterday although after a good night’s sleep last night I’m feeling better today. ๐Ÿ˜ŽI’m also glad it’s going to be warmer today so I turned off the heat again. Still not warm enough though to open the window for fresh air but I expect in a week or two with the average high reaching 60 by mid month there will be many more opportunities for sleeping with the windows open.๐Ÿ”ณ

I went down to the library for a while today to do some client business. I don’t have internet at home so I went to the library for the public Wi-Fi which works well. ๐Ÿ“กThen I came back home and got a few more hours of sleep. I worked on some code and the blog, rode the exercise bike for a while then went for my evening walk.๐Ÿšฒ

I thought about going out fishing or maybe for a hike๐Ÿšถ after returning home from the library but I basically just collapsed into bed and took another nap. I’m feeling much more rested today๐Ÿ’ค. Maybe a bit groggy when I first woke with the cold weather but generally I’m feeling much better today.

Looking ahead, there are 15 weeks until Last Sunset After 8:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:30 pm with dusk at 9:04 pm. On that day in 2018, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 96 and 69 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 83 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1900.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 63. Maximum dew point of 45 at 2pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 54 degrees.

Sunday is starting to look really nice. I’ll have to think ๐Ÿ’ญ what I will do that day. I’m undecided at the moment. I’ll have to think about it some more, maybe a nice long walk in the woods. ๐ŸŒฒ

In four weeks on April 30 the sun will be setting at 7:54 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 51 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 51 and 38 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 64 and 42 degrees. The record high of 86 degrees was set back in 1903.

Looking ahead, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 15 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 5 months, Constitution Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 24 weeks, October ๐Ÿ›ฅ is in 26 weeks and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 83 weeks.
