May 1, 2019 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 42 degrees. The skies will clear Monday around noontime.

I was bad, I did not go for my evening walk tonight. ๐Ÿšถ I did ride the exercise bike for a while ๐Ÿšฒ but then I got started working on some code and watching some YouTube videos. I installed the new version of the GIMP image editor, GIMP 2.10 and are very impressed with the features. I really like the single window optional interface, ๐ŸŽจ much less clunky than the seperate windows that always overlap one and another. It’s just a mucj cleaner way to work. This day of age I can’t imagine why anyone would use anything but open source software.

Tonight will have showers likely, mainly between midnight and 2am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 50 degrees at 1am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 24th. Fairly mild but damp. South wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1974.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ˜ with 3% illuminated. The moon will rise at 5:06 am. The New Moon is on Friday night. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Friday, May 17th. The sun will rise at 5:49 am with the first light at 5:18 am, which is one minute and 22 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 51 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 27 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly before 2pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 66 degrees at 2pm. One degree above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around May 3rd. Maximum dew point of 56 at 1pm. Light and variable wind becoming southwest around 6 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 90 degrees, breaking the previous year record. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

I started requesting car insurance quotes to see what is out there. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Information is free to request, it won’t ding your credit score to shop around for insurance. My policy is good through the end of September but I want to learn more about my options. I’m only considering the big insurers with a good reputation. I also think I may be a bit over insured in some areas and under insured in others and I want to study my options to make sure that I have sufficient coverage to protect me and my hard earned savings should I get into a wreck. I’m really not sure if shopping around will save much money – insurance is a very competitive industry – but learning is important. ๐Ÿ’ฌHonestly I’ve not done much research in the past because I figured with so much advertising and competition there probably isn’t a great difference in value.

That said in 2021 when I probably won’t be out in the field much for work I’m seriously thinking of ditching motoring ๐Ÿš™ for a bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ and bus ๐Ÿš pass to get around town. It’s not just the costly insurance, but just the whole motoring experience from dealerships to maintenance. Not having car issues to worry about would be so liberating. It would save so much money๐Ÿ’ธ, improve my health, and reduce my carbon footprint ๐Ÿ‘ฃ dramatically. ๐ŸŒŽ It would be a big change in my lifestyle but it would save money ๐Ÿ’ต getting me closer to being able to buy land in a lower cost state, hobby farm and live off grid.

This year my goal is to save roughly 30%, or $18k of my income towards retirement not including my pension plan. ๐Ÿ’ต 2/3rd pre tax, the rest post tax. Maybe that’s a lot but I’m growing old ๐Ÿ‘ด fast and I want to have a secure retirement plus it’s really cutting down my tax liability as a single renter without college debt. ๐ŸŽ“ I’m also putting away a fair bit in the markets and savings for more near term when I finally decide to make the jump and buy land. The more I can save the less I’ll be wasting today on landfill fodder and the more I can benefit from compound interest. I may never be able to afford all the toys I want but step by step I can get closer to having a secure ๐Ÿ” feature, one with land and a simple home back in the wilderness ๐Ÿก . It does take time though, as even with the record high in the market I’m still a long ways away from where I want to be in 20 years from now.

I decided to rejoin Facebook. ๐Ÿ‘ฅI guess I never fully quit it but I did delete the app from my phone and only checked it a few times a week. I’m not going to get on it as much as I once did but a few times a week I’ll do scheduled posts on my Facebook page. I’ll probably keep Facebook fairly non political going forward. ๐Ÿ‘I’m tired of all the nasty comments. ๐Ÿ’ญ I do think I’ll keep participating in a few of the groups I like such as Casual Peppers and some of the Off Grid groups.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, a chance of showers, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 50 at 12pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Typical average high for the weekend is 66 degrees.

It turns out that my aunt won’t be coming up this weekend because she is under the weather. ๐Ÿ‘ช I am a bit disappointed. But it wouldn’t have been a particularly good weather weekend for her to visit at any rate. Maybe she can come later in the summer when it’s nicer out. I will probably stay home this weekend ๐Ÿก and maybe take a bus to John Wolcott’s house to work on his history project. I also have some electronics building projects I want to do like build the outside temperature probe for my display. ๐Ÿ”ฌ

In four weeks on May 29 the sun will be setting at 8:24 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 28 minutes and 32 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had humid weather, mostly sunny and temperatures between 85 and 62 degrees. Definitely a hot day for late May but not unheard of for sure. Typically, you have temperatures between 73 and 51 degrees. The record high of 93 degrees was set back in 1931.

Looking ahead, June ๐Ÿน is a month away, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 5 weeks, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 2 months, August ๐ŸŒป is in 3 months, Altamont Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 15 weeks, State Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 16 weeks, Sunset Before 7:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 4 months, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 19 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 21 weeks, October ๐Ÿ›ฅ is in 5 months and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 90 weeks.

May 1, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy May ๐Ÿ•Š! How fast the time goes. Another month and Memorial Day will have come and gone and it will be June. Five weeks to 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ. Cloudy, damp and 47 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The skies will clear Sunday around 11 pm.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 53 degrees at 4pm. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 4th. Kind of a cold and gray day to start out May for sure. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 6 to 11 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. I bought my umbrella but I’m not sure I’ll need it. A year ago, we had mostly sunny in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 2001. There was a dusting of snow in 1978.โ„

Certainly not a real nice day ahead. ๐Ÿ’ก I think I’ll need my light on in the office when I get to work. That said being that it’s been above freezing for the most part in recent weeks and quite wet I expect things to continue to green up. I’m sure though that the aggie types kind of wish things would stop raining so they could do more field work. ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฝ I watch too many ag channels on Youtube, it’s a constant struggle as a farmer.

The sun will set at 7:55 pm with dusk around 8:26 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain showers, clouds ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 52 degrees. Breezy, 17 mph breeze xd from the south-southeast with gusts up to 29mph. Today will have 14 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 29 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between midnight and 5am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 48 degrees at 12am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 18th. South wind 12 to 17 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had cloudy in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1974.

Yesterday was pay day ๐Ÿ’ต which is good because after the first day of the month and the many costs of April there wasn’t a lot left over. I guess having unappropriated money is problematic but things were tighter then I would wish. Then again, I’m just so focused on the day when I can finally own land, live off-grid in the wilderness, manage my own waste, raise and hunt animals for food, ๐Ÿ own toys like tractors and four wheeler. ๐Ÿšœ

I heard CDTA is switching to a new vendor and I need to update my credit card on their website ๐Ÿ’ณ so that my Navigator card continues to be refilled. I bet this will lead to many unpleasant surprises for many people. The key is now to remember my password. I think I have it saved somewhere in an encrypted file.

I am still undecided about Memorial Day Weekend. โ›บ I’m not sure if I want to go to Vermont this year – I’m thinking a bit about the East Branch again but in a different campsite. The weather is often so sucky that weekend with lots of black flies. ๐Ÿœ

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be June ๐Ÿน when the sun will be setting at 8:26 pm with dusk at 9:00 pm. Nice long days during that month.

April 28, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Next Sunday is Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค . Rain and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” Calm wind. I feel a bit congested this morning, I think it’s mostly due to the weather. The skies will clear around 5 pm.

Another bad weather day. โ˜ No rain just a lot of clouds. Maybe more rain later on. Riding the exercise bike for a while and I should probably get some milk at the store before the rain returns. ๐Ÿฎ That way I can have some โ˜•. Then after breakfast I will take a shower ๐Ÿšฟ, get cleaned up and go to the store to buy a few things for the week. I never got my jacket to the dry cleaner. Maybe this week. Or maybe I should just use the dry cleaner at the Plaza as then I wouldn’t have to drive there.

Today will have showers likely, mainly between 11am and 3pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 50 degrees at 4pm. 14 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 29th. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 68 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1990. There was a dusting of snow in 1966.โ„

The sun will set at 7:52 pm with dusk around 8:22 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 48 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 59 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 33 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have areas of frost after 3am. Otherwise, mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 34 degrees at 4am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 7th. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light after midnight. In 2018, we had light rain. It got down to 38 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1947.

As previously noted, next Sunday is Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  when the sun will be setting at 8:00 pm with dusk at 8:31 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 76 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944.

April 24, 2019 11 AM Update

Good morning! What day is it? Get-Away Hump Day, of course. Heading up North for probably two days camping once work is done today. Next Wednesday is May ๐Ÿ•Š. Mostly cloudy and 52 degrees in Albany. โ˜ Breezy, ๏ธ18 mph breeze from the west ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 30 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The skies will clear around 8 pm.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 58 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 15th. Breezy, with a west wind 18 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 70 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2001. 1.2 inches of snow fell back in 1967.โ„

The sun will set at 7:47 pm with dusk around 8:17 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 54 degrees. Breezy, 17 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 28mph. Today will have 13 hours and 49 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 38 seconds over yesterday.

So I am packed and planning to leave for the Adirondacks after work today. โ›ฐ Tomorrow looks absolutely beautiful, not so much so for Friday. But I’ll take a what I can get. The forecast earlier in the week looked quite nice, but it has slipped down hill.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear โ˜, with a low of 39 degrees at 5am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 21st. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light west after midnight. Going to be fairly cool, especially up north, but I have my heater with me if I need to warm up in the morning. But definitely warmer then camping in the Finger Lakes last December. In 2018, we had cloudy in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 23 occurred back in 1965.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 4pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 10th. Light and variable wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 2009. .3 inches of snow fell back in 1928.โ„

I think I will have a great day hiking and camping tomorrow, plus two nights camping, ๐Ÿ• maybe do some plinking with the .22 tomorrow around camp, followed by fishing on Friday.ย  Maybe spend some time around camp reading, listening to music and just relaxing. As turkey season ๐Ÿฆƒ ain’t open for another week, I should have the wilderness all to my own, bar maybe one of the forest rangers stopping in to say hi tomorrow, if I’m still at camp and not hiking at that point.

ย I am thinking about coming home on Friday morning, ๐Ÿ if it’s going to be as wet as they say. I have certainly spent a lot of nights in the wilderness when we’ve gotten in an inch of rain, and I would be willing to stay through the weekend, if it wasn’t expected to be so cold and generally not that great on Saturday. I have the heater and tarps, but I don’t want to be curled up next to the heater all day Friday, dealing with tarps that are getting saturated and dripping.โ˜” I’ve just spent too many very wet days camping, and it’s fun but not that much fun, especially in the spring.

But still, it’s nice to get away for a few days. I have Friday off from work, so I can take things down and take a nice easy drive back. If it’s not raining too hard, I’ll do some fishing. Saturday, I might do a hike locally, maybe I’ll drive out somewhere or maybe just walk to Five Rivers for more nature study. ๐Ÿฆ I don’t know, with the breeze and dampness it’s going to be cold on Saturday, even if it’s sunny. After an inch of rain everything is going to be all mud. I bought some inexpensive farm boots yesterday, but I still don’t want to be in really sticky nasty mud if I can avoid it. I really have enough clothes and food for four days in the wilderness, but I doubt will be up there the whole time.๐Ÿ”Š

As previously noted, next Wednesday is May ๐Ÿ•Š when the sun will be setting at 7:55 pm with dusk at 8:26 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 74 and 43 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2001.

In four weeks on May 22 the sun will be setting at 8:17 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 30 minutes and 13 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 63 and 55 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 71 and 49 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1911.

Looking ahead, May ๐Ÿ•Š is in 1 weeks, Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ is a month away, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 6 weeks, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 2 months, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 9 weeks, Altamont Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 16 weeks, State Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 17 weeks, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 4 months, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 20 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 22 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 91 weeks.

 Don\'t Look Down

April 22, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy with some clearing to the west and 62 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 46 degrees. Made for kind of a nice sunset but I do wish it was a little sunnier all of today. The skies will clear around 10 pm.

It was a nice enough of an evening that I went to the park after work for a while with a book. ๐Ÿ“™ It was one of those self improvement type books that encourages you to think more about who you are and how to make a better future for your and make life more enjoyable. I’m really kind of bored with many parts of life, I’m kind of looking for new adventures and things to do while I’m still in New York making and saving money.

Looking for new ideas on things to do, not just the same trips year after year after working my job all week long. It’s all gotten too routine and life is going by too quickly. My desire to change is part of the reason why I’m thinking in a few years of getting a bicycle to replace my truck. ๐Ÿšฒ I feel like not having a vehicle would force me to adjust my life, have new experiences. Truck camping is fun but its all become the same. โ›บ Maybe this year once the black flies are done, I’ll do more wilderness camping with the hammock and packing light.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 49 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 21st. North wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, it was clear in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1975.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 76% illuminated with the moon rising at 11:28 pm. The moon will set at 9:04 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Thursday night with partly cloudy skies. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Friday, May 17th. The sun will rise at 6:01 am with the first light at 5:32 am, which is one minute and 31 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 14 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 73 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around May 27th. I’ll take a late May day without the black flies and the humidity. Maximum dew point of 47 at 7am. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had sunny. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 2007. 2.4 inches of snow fell back in 1956.โ„

Tomorrow I shop ๐Ÿช and pack for camping. โ›บ The plan is to set up camp in the Southern Adirondacks for two nights starting Wednesday after work. Friday looks fairly wet, so I’m thinking about driving up to Tupper Lake and maybe camping and hiking around there on Saturday then drive home on Sunday, maybe stopping a few places on the way back home. Probably take an easy drive back down along NY 30 both ways as I hate expressway driving. I think I’d rather do that then sit in the rain โ˜” on Friday plus I haven’t been up to the Tupper Lake area in years, I think it’s five years since I camped at Horseshoe Lake and Jones Pond in that area. Not bringing the kayak, there is plenty to do on foot and I want to use the solar on the sunny days.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 58. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 62. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 40 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 63 degrees.

I’m still thinking about possibly one more camping trip before Memorial Day Weekend โ›บ, namely that Moss Island and pre summer season trip to Piseco-Powley Road but worse comes to worse that can wait until June. Going to be a busy month for me. A trip to Madison County and Rogers Environmental Education Center is another real possibility as is a trip to Spectator camping where I did last Labor Day Weekend. I figure I should travel and camp these next two years as much as I can if I’m thinking about going car less in 2021. That said, most of the places I’m planning on going this year are pretty ordinary, I kind of wish I could do something new and different for a change. I really need to think about more wilderness camping in the back country. It doesn’t have to be that heavy miserable big pack frame we used in Boy Scouts with no technology at all.

In four weeks on May 20 the sun will be setting at 8:16 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 30 minutes and 29 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 75 and 56 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 71 and 48 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 1962.

I’m really fascinated by possibilities and power of the Processing Modeler in QGIS. ๐ŸŒ By plugging different filters together, extracting and manipulating raster data and vectorizing it there is some pretty remarkable things I could dream up. There is a lot of great things you can do with digital mapping I’m just discovering now after all these years with QGIS. I think running out of state land to map in many ways is a blessing as it’s forced me to become more creative with the stuff I do with map data and add other useful features. Too often in life I find myself in a rut lacking creative energy or a desire to try something new.

I really should find time to rebuild my electronic VMS sign for my office but I think I need more wire and I’ve been loathe to spend more time with the soldering iron. ๐Ÿ”ฌI should spend more rainy days on that kind of thing.

It’s still pretty early by I’m tired. ๐Ÿ˜ด I should finish putting my wash away and get to bed. Each night I keep retiring earlier but that’s fine because I wake up earlier. A good night’s sleep is important for doing a good job at work. Plus I have to pack for camp tomorrow.

Looking ahead, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 5 weeks, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 2 months, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 9 weeks, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 10 weeks, Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ is in 12 weeks, Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 16 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 19 weeks, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 5 months and Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 24 weeks.

Mountains lost in fog

April 17, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒƒ Calm wind. Being such a relatively nice night, I’m sitting out back in the moonlight, listening to the spring peepers ๐Ÿธ which seem quieter tonight compared to some nights. Air kind of smells faintly like barnyard, it’s spring so the farm down the road must be spreading manure or at least working the dirt in the fields.

Today was another busy but good day at work. ๐Ÿ’ผ Definitely less crazy than yesterday. I’m glad I have Good Friday off as lately I’ve been tired as my sleep has been pretty poor. ๐Ÿ˜ด I was hoping getting to bed early would help but I still find myself waking up a lot at night. I just find myself increasingly discontent and worried about both my future and that of the world. ๐ŸŒŽ I’m trying to do more and more everyday though to improve my own life even if I can’t fix the many problems of the world I see around me.

The Save the Pine Bush Dinner was pretty good, listening to Lou Ismay give what may be his last presentation to Save the Pine Bush was interesting. ๐ŸŽค He’s gotten older for sure but he did much for the environment and the Albany community over his many years running the SUNY PYE Club. Lasagna was fairly good although this month I didn’t get to take any home. No delicious smelling lunch at work although I usually do end up cooking something good most days.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after 3am. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 44 degrees at 5am. Six degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 4th. A fairly mild night. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1948.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 99% illuminated. The moon will set at 6:05 am. The Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• will be tomorrow. I hope you have your rose colored glasses to wear. ๐Ÿ‘“ The sun will rise at 6:09 am with the first light at 5:40 am, which is one minute and 36 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 28 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 43 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly before 8am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 58 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 15th. Breezy, with a south wind 16 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. That wind will make it feel much colder. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1976. 2.7 inches of snow fell back in 1887.โ„

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap for Easter. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 2pm, then showers likely after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 67. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 64. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 48 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 61 degrees.

I haven’t packed my camping gear yet โ›บ so I have no real plans for the weekend except maybe Easter dinner at the folks house. ๐Ÿฐ In two weeks though I really hope to be out camping again. The weather has moderated a lot, the snow is almost entirely gone from the East Branch area, and now it’s just a matter of waiting for some sunny days.

Across Crane Pond to Crane Pond Hill

April 15, 2019 Night

Good evening! I hope you survived this most taxing of days. I certainly did, but it was as awful as I thought. Partly clear, a blustery 40 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” Stiff breeze at 30 mph the west-northwest ๐Ÿ’จ with gusts up to 52 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. Wind at times is really roaring around tonight. The skies will clear tomorrow around noontime.

I survived another three-years worth of defensive driving class.๐Ÿ˜ณ It was as awful as usual, nothing has really changed, but I guess it’s good to freshen up on things. I doubt the class really makes people much safer drivers, but acts a selection mechanism for the safest drivers on block.๐Ÿš™ I almost didn’t take it when I heard they raised the rate for the class to $25 from $10 three years ago, but that 10% discount on insurance over three years adds up. Taxes and fines are high in New York, so don’t speed, don’t drink and drive, don’t touch your phone while driving.

I do use my cruise control a lot more these days, and keep my speed down on on the highways. Driving without speeding is a lot less stressful and saves gas. I do sometimes suffer from road rage when I see a cop, doing something I don’t think is fair, but the best thing is to just keep driving in a mostly law-abiding fashion and ignore it. ๐Ÿ‘Š I really shouldn’t take calls while driving, even with the hands free, but at least now with the latest version of Waze I don’t have to touch the phone to run most commands like report a police trap — and anything that is more then simple to do — I just pull off at the next safe spot.

I’ve never texted anyone while driving, but I do read text messages and email headers when they pop up on my phone in the hands-holder,๐Ÿ“ฑ in big text, which is near my line of sight. If I need to respond, I will pull over where lawful, or call back on the hands-free phone. I’m much more careful with the CB radio, which to operate it, being mounted as low as it is, can be difficult to operate.

After the 6-hour class, I decided to go into work for the final two hours of the day. ๐Ÿ“As I have an hour paid lunch, I only ended up having to use 5-hours of personal time, and honestly I don’t have that much personal time, and I’ve earned a lot of comp time over the past few months. ๐Ÿ’ผ Work was a bit of clusterduck when I got there, I kind of picked a busy day to be out. But things that got done happened, and life moves on. Probably good that I decided to go to the office for a few hours this afternoon. I’m still thinking about taking a day or two off next week.

Wireless headphones weren’t working on my phone ๐Ÿ”‡ today which made for a long bus ride home. ๐ŸŽง I think I just needed to update the software on my phone. ๐Ÿ“ฑ Now they work perfectly after I updated the firmware.

I was pretty tired after all that happened today, as that defensive driver class is pretty intense while also being superboring, as the videos haven’t changed in 30 years. I did walk down to the library for a while, ๐Ÿ“šand worked on some stuff down there for a while. Mostly just a lot of catching up, some fixing a nasty little bug I discovered in my blog. At least the rain is gone for now, but it’s cooled down a lot. I’m going to turn off the lights and head to bed in a bit. ๐Ÿ˜ด

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 35 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 10th. Windy, with a northwest wind 22 to 31 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 22 occurred back in 1981.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 92% illuminated. The moon will set at 5:01 am. The ๐ŸŒ• is on Thursday night with a slight chance of showers then chance of showers. The sun will rise at 6:12 am with the first light at 5:43 am, which is one minute and 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 33 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over last night.

Much nicer weather tomorrow. It will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 59 degrees at 3pm. Typical for mid April. Breezy, with a northwest wind 20 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 2012. 5.3 inches of snow fell back in 1983.โ„

I’m hoping for a better day tomorrow. I’ll be getting paid tomorrow which is good, ๐Ÿ’ธalthough much of those funds have already been allocated for various purposes. But I should have enough money to do an end of the month road trip, although I’m thinking it may be just to the East Branch through I’m considering still going up to the Adirondacks North Country.

Easter weekend continues to look wet and cloudy. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Maximum dew point of 57 at 6am. Sunday, a chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 63. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 46 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 61 degrees.

This next weekend I’m going to most likely stick around town although if I get a nice day I might go down to the Catskills and hike up Platte Clove Road. ๐Ÿšถ Or maybe do some fishing on the Eight Mile Creek. ๐ŸŽฃ I’m not sure, it all depends on the weather. I also have projects that I can work on at home. Obviously staying home is the cheapest option but it might be fun to get out of town.

The weekend after next I’m definitely looking to get out of town. By then it looks like the weather will moderate and it could be quite sunny and warm. โ˜€ I would camp, โ›บ fishing ๐ŸŽฃ, and maybe some hiking. ๐Ÿšถ It should be a great weekend to kick off the 2019 camping season. Probably take off Friday of that week and maybe also Thursday. I’m not going to take any time off though although until it gets closer and the forecast is more certain but the 8-14 day outlook looks good for now.

In four weeks on May 13 the sun will be setting at 8:09 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 19 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 68 and 48 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 69 and 46 degrees. The record high of 86 degrees was set back in 2004.

Looking ahead, Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ is in 1 week, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 6 weeks, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 10 weeks, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 11 weeks, Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ is in 3 months, Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 17 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 20 weeks and Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 25 weeks.
