Good evening! Rain and 74 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a east breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 71 degrees.

Back home from the Green Mountains. ๐Ÿก It was nice to get away and avoid the heat and humidity but I didn’t feel like camping in the rain โ˜” and it looked like all Saturday would be rainy. While it would be nice to have the day off from work when I had more time to play around in the mountains Saturday didn’t look very nice so I came home. I really liked that campsite down by the Deerfield River swimming hole ๐ŸŠ but it’s not normally easy to get unless you go up there midweek.

I didn’t like how much litter ๐Ÿšฎ and toilet paper flowers I found up there but I tried to clean things up to the best of my ability. I didn’t take home the junk tire or the multiple bags of garbage I found dumped back in the brush but I did burn and pack out cans for recycling from the one bag of litter I found out front. โ™ป Campsite is a lot cleaner than when I found it.

The drive back home was uneventful ๐Ÿš˜ started to rain hard as I left but it helped with the very wash board Somerset Road. The rest of the trip was quiet except for getting onto the Molly Stark Highway at rush hour – kind of busy. ๐Ÿšš ๐Ÿš™

The Hoosick Valley was a bit pungent of cow manure, ๐Ÿ’ฉ they were spreading it on hay fields before the rain probably so it soaks into the ground good and to keep the slurry tank from overflowing should we get a ton of rain. ๐Ÿฎ

It was odd driving past the state employees overflow parking lot ๐Ÿ…ฟ and seeing it all barricaded and closed but I’m guessing it’s not needed or used and the shuttles aren’t running ๐Ÿš with most state workers telecommuting during the pandemic.

Tonight will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. ๐ŸŒง Low of 71 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 72 at 11pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ East wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 71 degrees. The record low of 48 occurred back in 1986.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 67% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 1:01 am, followed by dawn at 4:54 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:28 am in the east-northeast (58ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 24 seconds. Sunrise is 45 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:10 am with sun in the east-northeast (65ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 54 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 15 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, then showers and thunderstorms likely after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 88 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 73 at 9am. South wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It became humid as the day progressed. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1936.

In four weeks on August 7 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (293ยฐ) at 8:07 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 26 minutes and 10 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had humid, partly sunny, thunderstorm and temperatures between 84 and 69 degrees. Come August we loose daylight in the evening quickly. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 102 degrees was set back in 1918.

Listening ๐Ÿ‘‚ to the rain, I’m glad I’m home at camping in wet weather isn’t much fun. Just everything gets wet and smokey. I still should plan on taking a summer vacation ๐ŸŠ in a few weeks and with remote work not expected to end anytime soon I have plenty of opportunities to head back to the Green Mountains or anywhere else I have cell service and work remotely from there.

July 9, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 71 degrees at the Green Mountain National Forest. There is a south breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 67 degrees. The muggy weather ends Tuesday around 11 pm. ๐Ÿ˜“

Kind of a hot day but until later in the afternoon the heat wasn’t that bad. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ I could always hop in the Deerfield River if it got too hot plus I had the fan blowing on me most of the day while working. Busy day at work but I did get to hit the swimming ๐ŸŠ hole a few times. Cooled off enough to have a little fire.

One of the locals mentioned that there is a place up the road that sells firewood ๐Ÿ”ฅ something I’ll have to keep in mind for future visits. I was able to cobble together enough wood for the fire plus some camp garbage I had to burn. I also had a bag of litter ๐Ÿšฎ I picked up, and when burning that I found a discarded butane container which I pulled out of the fire just in time.

Tonight will have isolated showers and thunderstorms before 11pm. Patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, partly cloudy , with a low of 63 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 9pm. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1963.

Sunrise is 44 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:05 am with sun in the east-northeast (65ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 51 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 12 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers before 2pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2pm and 3pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 75 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 6th. Maximum dew point of 67 at 1pm. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 89 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1936.

I think based on the latest forecast I’m going to head home ๐Ÿก on Friday evening after work. Maybe hit the swimming hole a few times tomorrow but I don’t want to camp in the rain. And it’s likely going to be super wet here Friday night into Saturday. ๐Ÿ’ฆ

In four weeks on August 6 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (293ยฐ) at 8:06 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 25 minutes and 37 seconds earlier then tonight. Dusk

July 8, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 67 degrees at the Green Mountain National Forest. ๐ŸŒƒ There is a west-southwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 65 degrees. The muggy weather ends Tuesday around 10 pm. ๐Ÿ˜“

So after my spade โ™ค of bad luck ๐Ÿ€ yesterday I moved to a new campsite near the Somerset Bridge and the Airfield camping area. Not as quiet and remote as the other area, I’m close to a good swimming hole ๐ŸŠ and I have a lot more solar power and ability to enjoy the stars โœจ on a clear night. Radio ๐Ÿ“ป reception isn’t as good so I have fewer choices on live radio here – no New Hampshire or Vermont Public Radio here.

It was a busy day, warm but not as oppressive as it’s back in the city. ๐ŸŒ† I did go for a few short swims and cool downs during the day but most of the day I was up to my neck finishing up another one of those 30 page memos ๐Ÿ“ and then this afternoon it was a big spreadsheet project. ๐Ÿ“Š Rained for a while, actually it poured for a while at the four o’clock hour so my final hour โณ of the day was spent working from inside my truck cap. Internet worked fine most of the day ๐Ÿ“ถ and I had no trouble accessing the VPN connection for all the files ๐Ÿ“‚ I needed from the server. I also used the 120 volt fan in the tent ๐ŸŽช with my laptop and that worked good to keep things nice and comfortable.

While I’m still finding litter ๐Ÿšฎ at the campsite and are picking it up when I find it, I am quite happy with this campsite near the swimming hole even if it’s not the remote country of yesterday. ๐Ÿบ Being able to wash and cool off in the heat ๐Ÿ˜Ž makes it a lot more enjoyable.

I am thinking I will stay through Saturday morning, when it looks like it will be rainy. โ˜” By then the worse of the heat wave will likely break and I will have all day to drive home at my own pace rather than rushing home before 9 o’clock or leaving after 5 pm.

Tonight will have isolated showers before 10pm. Patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 64 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 66 at 11pm. West wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1963.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 83% illuminated. The moon will rise at 11:11 pm. The Buck ๐ŸฆŒ Moon is on Thursday, July 23. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 4:48 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:22 am in the east-northeast (58ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 26 seconds. Sunrise is 43 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:05 am with sun in the east-northeast (65ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 50 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 8 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 10am. Mostly sunny , with a high of 83 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 13th. Maximum dew point of 68 at 10am. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 103 was set in 1936.

In four weeks on August 5 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (294ยฐ) at 8:07 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 24 minutes and 46 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had sunny and temperatures between 83 and 54 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 99 degrees was set back in 1955.

The Flow

July 6, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 67 degrees in Stratton, VT. There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 57 degrees. With that breeze it feels a bit cold at times, especially with the breeze, and laying back in the hammock.

It was a pretty nice day up in Vermont, lots of sun โ˜€ and not too hot. Battery bank and laptop got close to fully charged despite using the laptop for about half the day for finishing up a report and what seemed like an endless Zoom meeting. ๐Ÿ“น I just had this fear that my internet connection was going to drop during the meeting or the cellular internet connection would have problems but it all worked out fine.

No fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ tonight, instead I had a late dinner after my hour and half stroll down to Shep Meadow.

While Forest Road 71 is a nice walk with scenic curves and gentle grades, I don’t think I realized how long some of those grades were until I walked them. ๐Ÿšถ

I also spent an hour rereading part of the Cabin Porn book ๐Ÿ“™ I got out of the library, studying the pictures more carefully of the various cabins and alternative living arrangements. ๐Ÿก As much as I like camping I hope some day – maybe in a decade – I’ll have a simple place out in the country I’ll call home. ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ” I have to say that the lantern ๐Ÿฎ is burning bright ๐Ÿ”† these days which is good for reading ๐Ÿ“– and the tent ๐ŸŽช was quite bug free. ๐Ÿœ

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 60 degrees at 3am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around July 2nd. Maximum dew point of 59 at 11pm. South wind 3 to 8 mph. Honestly with the clear skies, I could see it getting even colder. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 64 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1979.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 95% illuminated. The moon will rise at 10:06 pm. The darkest hour is at 12:57 am, followed by dawn at 4:45 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:20 am in the east-northeast (57ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 27 seconds. Sunrise is 40 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:03 am with sun in the east-northeast (65ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 46 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 2 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers between noon and 2pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 74 degrees at 2pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 61 at 3pm. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. It was very sticky. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1988.

It doesn’t seem like its going to be as hot tomorrow as I thought it would be at least up north here. ๐Ÿ—ป But I still think I need to head to West Wardsboro after work to get ice. And maybe a quick swing by Grout Pond to swim ๐ŸŠ and get cleaned off. Then I should be good until Thursday or Friday depending on how the ice holds up with the heat. I don’t think it will be nearly as warm here especially as I’m on a bit of a ledge with a good breeze and a fair bit of shade. ๐Ÿƒ I don’t expect the weather to be amazing but I’m sure it will be better than at home.

In four weeks on August 3 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (295ยฐ) at 8:10 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 23 minutes and 10 seconds earlier then tonight. Days by then will be getting noticeably shorter, with the sun much closer to the west. In 2019 on that day, we had thunderstorm and temperatures between 85 and 66 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1975.

Well I think I’m going to wash up and head to bed. ๐Ÿ˜ด I often stay up too late when camping and my sleep suffers as the sun rises early this time of year, although this campsite is nestled in the mountains so the actual sunrise ๐ŸŒ… is later here then the official time would suggest.

Stopping at the Red River

July 5, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 68 degrees at the Green Mountain National Forest. ๐ŸŒƒ There is a west breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 59 degrees. A very comfortable evening, even a bit cool when the breeze picked up.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 57 degrees at 4am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 18th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 9pm. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was very sticky. It got down to 73 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1962.

Tonight will have a Full ๐ŸŒ Moon with 98% illuminated. The moon will rise at 9:22 pm. The Buck ๐ŸฆŒ Moon is on Monday, July 20. The darkest hour is at 12:57 am, followed by dawn at 4:45 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:20 am in the east-northeast (57ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 27 seconds. Sunrise is 39 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:03 am with sun in the east-northeast (64ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 46 minutes of darkness, an increase of 58 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 79 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 21st. Maximum dew point of 61 at 8am. North wind around 6 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was sticky. The high last year was 92 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1886.

Should be a pretty nice day. โ˜€ I have good cell service here ๐Ÿ“ฑ so work should go well. Sun is good midday although it will drop into shadows after about 3:30. I expect a good day at work from here tomorrow. I’m not sure if I’m going to stay here all week, although I certainly can because it’s National Forest.

The one thing I don’t like about this site is a bit farther away from town then hoped and Somerset Road is pretty rough ๐ŸŒ from washboarding. Willimington is 15 miles away at the last five miles on VT 9 is quick but that washboarded section is punishing. It might be better to go to Wardsboro for ice on Tuesday after work and then cool off and get cleaned up at the Grout Pond beach. ๐ŸŠ

In four weeks on August 2 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (295ยฐ) at 8:11 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 22 minutes and 15 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 86 and 60 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1975.

Forestland

July 4, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 78 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 60 degrees. Still pretty warm in my bedroom tonight but not as muggy as last night.

Kind of an odd forth of July this year ๐ŸŽ‡ to spend the evening home. A lot of people lit fireworks though off in town and there was a lot I could see looking out to the mountains this evening. Probably saw more that what I would have seen camping up in Moose River Plains but it gets pretty crazy up there ๐Ÿ˜œ come the forth of July. I have a bunch of sparklers and fountains but I’m saving then for a future trip and or New Years Eve 2021.

I did some fishing ๐ŸŽฃ at Lawson Lake but didn’t catch anything. Nice down by the lake, sitting on the dock with my feet in the water ๐Ÿ’ฆ . I kind of wish though I had a Vermont fishing license for the week but I have plenty of other things to eat and pass the time.

Had a nice outside barbecue with the folks. ๐Ÿ”๐ŸŸ It was good to see them its been a few weeks. ๐Ÿถ I hear they are getting a puppy. Their neighbors were having a big party. As I’ve said before, I’ve always thought their neighbors were a bit too close ๐Ÿฝ because I’m more of a wilderness person.

I have started to pack gear and will be heading out to Vermont ๐Ÿš™ for the forseeable future until the heat breaks or I get tired of camping. I can spend up to 14 days camping in the National Forest but I bet I will tire if it before then. โ›บ I am working Ali next week remotely but I expect my evenings to vw free to hit a swimming hole ๐ŸŠ or maybe even Grout Pond. Not bringing my kayak this time as I’m going to be busy with work and it’s a pain to take it on and off so I can get solar to keep the battery ๐Ÿ”‹ bank full.

With the heat and probably sleeping fairly undressed I woke up to bad jock itch this morning. ๐Ÿ† Super itchy hot sticky balls are no fun. I know what your thinking gross. That said athlete’s foot cream, the cheap mega bottle ๐Ÿถ at Wally World works good. I think with the heat and humidity, especially when I’m home I need to plan on daily showers and changing my underwear regularly. I think in the morning I’ll stop at Wally World and get another mega container if athletes foot cream ๐Ÿ‘ฃand make sure I keep my privates well coated when I camp and wear clean socks to bed. ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Fortunately, itchy privates doesn’t make you subject to the Vermont quarantine order. I expect the cream to continue to work well.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 62 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal. Maximum dew point of 60 at 11pm. Light west wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It was humid. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1982.

Tonight will have the Full ๐ŸŒ , Buck ๐ŸฆŒ Moon. At 11 PM, the moon was in the south-southeast (150ยฐ) at an altitude of 18ยฐ from the horizon, some 237,007 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by December 31st. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ . The darkest hour is at 1:01 am, followed by dawn at 4:49 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:24 am in the east-northeast (57ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 26 seconds. Sunrise is 37 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:07 am with sun in the east-northeast (64ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 47 minutes of darkness, an increase of 53 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 89 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 61 at 6pm. West wind 3 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 92 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1919. Honestly, I think that will be quite pleasant in Vermont.

In four weeks on August 1 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (295ยฐ) at 8:15 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 20 minutes and 59 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 85 and 61 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 62 degrees. The record high of 101 degrees was set back in 1933.

Good morning! Happy Independence Day! ๐ŸŽ‡ Partly cloudy and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… Calm wind. The dew point is 65 degrees. The skies will clear around 8 am.

Going to be another hot summer day. โ˜€ At least it will be sunny and the humidity is going to be dropping. I want to fix the loose wire in my truck cap and then I’ll head out fishing ๐ŸŽฃ for a bit before heading out to the folks house for dinner. ๐Ÿฃ

Independence Day will have patchy dense fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 88 degrees at 4pm. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 9am. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 79 degrees. The dew point will be 63 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 12 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 61 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 63 at 8pm. Light west wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It was humid. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1982.

On this day in 1776, The United States Declaration of Independence is adopted by the Second Continental Congress. 51 years later, slavery would be banned in New York State in 1821. ๐Ÿ—ฝ Starting the day after Independence Day 1967, you would be able to FOIL the Federal Government, after U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson signs the Freedom of Information Act into law on July 4, 1966. Then citizens could request information on how much the federal government spent on fireworks the night before.

South
