July 21, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday, back to work from Speculator. Partly sunny and 59 degrees in Speculator, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

By working up here I could stay another day in the Adirondacks and if I camp overnight, โ›บ I’ll drive home Wednesday evening about when the weather gets more stormy. I’ve been off the internet all weekend as I had no service which is nice for a change, it’s good to be away from work and everything else. ๐Ÿ’ผ With the primaries and everything else going on it seems like most of weekends previously were quite busy.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 77 degrees at 4pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 1st. Maximum dew point of 59 at 8am. West wind 5 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 91 degrees. The record high of 101 was set in 1930.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:05 pm with sun having an altitude of 66.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-3.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:50 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (293ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (300ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:32 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 22 seconds with dusk around 9:05 pm, which is 52 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-northwest (293ยฐ) at an altitude of 5ยฐ from the horizon, 232,588 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:49 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 71 degrees. The dew point will be 57 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 54 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 58 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 27th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 8pm. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It became humid as the night progressed. It got down to 66 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1970.

It was a nice long weekend camping at Piseco Powley Road, at times quite nice but for a while Sunday evening when the wind died down it was rather muggy. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ But when the breeze picked up it was pretty cold nice. Rained from a thunderstorm late Sunday night. โšก I’ve enjoyed being off the grid, having no cell service ๐Ÿ“ฑ or ability to take calls all of the long weekend. I’ll upload some pictures later in the day. ๐Ÿ“ท

Saturday I walked the closed portion of Piseco Powley Road. ๐Ÿšง The south bridge is damaged from the October 31st storm and repairs will be necessary for Stratford to fix the other sections. That said, beyond the substructure of the bridge being rebuilt and some fill and a culvert needing replacing, most of the tools to rebuild the road shouldn’t be particularly difficult or unusual to implement.

On Saturday I also patched the hole in the screen tent. ๐ŸŽช It isn’t pretty as it doesn’t quite match in color and I wish I had had gotten the fabric a little tighter but it provides a good bug free area for camping. ๐Ÿœ Bugs have been bad this weekend, especially the deer fly although not so bad in the Potholers and times in the screen tent have been nice. After dark and early mornings I’ve been using the hammock a fair bit as the deer flies aren’t as bad then.

The Potholers were nice in the heat ๐ŸŠ, I spent several hours laying in them and cooling off. I sat down there listening to podcasts ๐ŸŽงand just enjoying the cold water ๐Ÿ’ฆ and hot sun โ˜€. During the weekend there was a fair number of people there although I expect I would see a lot more were the road to be fully open. I am hopeful though that once the bridge is repaired, they can get the road repaired relatively quickly. I’m still thinking it might be done by hunting season. That will certainly make visiting the Potholers a lot more of an option come 2021.

Only one real shit moment at camp. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ On Monday evening after parking at camp I noticed something hanging out below the front axle like something was broken. Turned out to be just a root but I was afraid that I had broken something on my truck. Just a silly shadow of a root. Pulled it up and tossed it in the woods. This campsite is a bit of a mud wallow at the parking spot but has been as long as I’ve camped here. At least it’s very quiet here with the road closed heading south bound from the Potholers – the only traffic is those going down there.

I thought about moving down to Powley Place last evening so I could enjoy the stars โœจbut ultimately I decided against that. It was fine, I was in by 9:30 and at that point wouldn’t have seen many stars. But I did stop by Powley Bridge briefly this morning to see the new temporary bridge and observe what has changed since the October 31st flood last year.

On this day in 1925, Dayton, Tennessee high school biology teacher John T. Scopes is found guilty of teaching evolution in class and fined $100. ๐Ÿ‘ฎ Darn criminals ruining our country. The judge incorrectly set the fine, rather then letting the jury do it, so his conviction was overturned on appeal. ๐Ÿซ The law would remain on the books until it was repealed 1967. Also in 1983, the world’s lowest temperature in an inhabited location is recorded at Vostok Station, Antarctica at โˆ’89.2 ยฐC (โˆ’128.6 ยฐF). โ›„ They should build a pipe and send it up north to cool off people efficently.

Been doing a lot of reading ๐Ÿ“– while up in camp. Re-read Heather Thomas’ Raising Beef Cattle ๐Ÿฎ which is an interesting book on the ins and outs of cows. They’re pretty amazing animals which do pretty good most of the time on grasses, water, salt and some careful human hands to train them and take care of their needs. Beef cattle don’t have the complicated nutritional needs of the high performance Holstein cows ๐Ÿ„ used on most dairies.

Should be a great weekend. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Maximum dew point of 59 at 8am. Sunday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 63 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees.

I haven’t decided if I will stay all week in the Adirondacks. ๐Ÿ—ป Only three nights until the weekend so I could get a campsite near Speculator and work up here to the weekend and then go back to Piseco Powley Road. I’m undecided though because working and camping can be kind of tiring, especially if I don’t get enough sleep. ๐Ÿ˜ด

Looking ahead, there are 15 weeks until Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:45 pm with dusk at 5:15 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny skies with a few rain showers and temperatures between 53 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 53 degrees. I was really sick that day last year with Lyme disease. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1990.

July 17, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 74 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 66 degrees. The muggy weather ends Wednesday around 7 pm. ๐Ÿ˜“

Kind of a muggy evening ๐ŸŒƒ. It would have been a nice evening to be up north but I’m planning on getting up 5:30 am in the morning and being on the road by 6:30 or seven. Get set up early and then hit the Potholers come mid morning.

I have the screen tent, the replacement screen material needle, scissors โœ‚ and heavy duty coat thread that I’ll use to patch up the hole – I‘ll probably just tack on the corners first and as time allows on the weekend sew things on tightly. ๐ŸŽช I think the material I got will work well – it’s light and flexible, a soft material but durable but maybe a little heavier than the factory screen.

Looking forward to Potholers over the next few days. ๐ŸŠ I decided against the kayak as I will need solar power if I decide to spend the second half of the week in Speculator with my laptop working remotely. If it’s super hot in Albany I’d rather use the Spectolator Library Wi-Fi or the cellular internet rather than work from home. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 64 degrees at 4am. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 66 at 9pm. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was sticky. It got down to 70 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1939.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 8% illuminated. The Strugeon ๐Ÿก Moon is on Saturday, August 1. The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 5:00 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:34 am in the east-northeast (60ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 20 seconds. Sunrise is 53 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:15 am with sun in the east-northeast (67ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 4 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 36 seconds over last night.

It’s going to be a long trip north with the road closure ๐Ÿšง but I’m hoping that the road is rebuilt come the autumn. But it will be interesting to see how the area has changed since the storm.

Tomorrow will be sunny and hot โ˜€, with a high of 91 degrees at 2pm. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 66 at 11am. Calm wind becoming southwest around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was very sticky. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1953.

In four weeks on August 14 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (290ยฐ) at 7:58 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 39 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 84 and 66 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 81 and 60 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1988.

Looking ahead, I’m off bed. ๐Ÿ˜ด

The Egg

July 16, 2020 Night

Good evening! Rain showers and 73 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south breeze at 14 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 60 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 5 pm.

Not too bad of an evening. โ˜” Raining out so I skipped my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ. I’m going to get to bed early tonight ๐Ÿ˜ด, try to get a good night’s sleep and then do a walk in the morning before it gets hot.

I also need to find some time to pack for camp tomorrow โ›บ as it’s going to be a long trip north up to Piseco Powley Road with the south end of the road closed. I might walk the damaged side on Sunday to see some of the damage and spend lots of time at the Potholers. I have Monday off from work ๐ŸŠ and it’s going to be a hot one. I’m undecided but I may stay in the Speculator area through the end of the heat wave next week ๐ŸŒŠ, not totally sure. I also need to buy groceries ๐Ÿ and some gas โ›ฝ maybe tomorrow. Maybe I won’t leave until Saturday. I don’t know.

Tonight will have a chance of showers. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 64 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 4am. South wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2019, we had thunderstorm in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was very sticky. It got down to 73 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1974.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 14% illuminated. The Blue ๐ŸŒ Moon is on Friday, July 31. The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 4:59 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:33 am in the east-northeast (60ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 21 seconds. Sunrise is 51 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:15 am with sun in the east-northeast (67ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 3 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 33 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 2pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 81 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 10th. Maximum dew point of 71 at 5pm. Going to be a swamp tomorrow. South wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. It became humid as the day progressed. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1900.

So I really was hoping to get a new brighter ๐Ÿ”† bulb in my desk lamp but I think I’m going to have to rethink that. While the bulb should work with a magnetic ballast per the label, apparently it won’t work with the ballast bypassed. I’m a bit impressed by primative technology, easy to work on and repair, assuming that you can get parts which are pretty uncommon these days. At some point if i want to upgrade the lamp I’ll have to get a small 12 volt power supply and mount it where the choke is. Then use LED tape and a deflector for the lamp. Maybe use a microprocessor to process the buttons – I could even make it dimmable. I could probably make a nice energy efficient lamp in there while keeping the buttons in tack.

Honestly, I am a bit tired of all this traveling and camping โ›บ but this muggy weather ๐Ÿ˜ง is awful being home. It’s nice to take the first vacation day since the pandemic started and have the whole day to myself without having to be somewhere with cell service and be checking and writing emails ๐Ÿ“ง all day. The Potholers will be nice. I’m hoping by the summer end road will be fully open ๐Ÿ‚.

In four weeks on August 13 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (290ยฐ) at 7:59 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 30 minutes and 55 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had humid, partly sunny, thunderstorm and temperatures between 81 and 67 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 81 and 61 degrees. The record high of 98 degrees was set back in 1947.

I won’t say I’ve lost interest in my blog ๐Ÿ“ but with my limited internet access and doing so much updating from my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ it’s getting harder and harder to update and keep working well. I just don’t have the library wifi where I can sit inside to update it or the empty time of the bus ๐Ÿš ride to and from work to write posts. Issues that should be fixed aren’t fixed for a long time. ๐Ÿ› I hope at some point life gets back to normal but when that happens I don’t know.

The Egg

July 14, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 71 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 63 degrees. It’s quite pleasant sitting out back, compared to being in the house. Very starry. ๐ŸŒŸ

I talked to my new neighbor about the parking, ๐Ÿ…ฟ and it turns out that I’m not blocking him and I can park back in my normal spot, so I can park in the back and sit on the tailgate with my truck. He just has a second big SUV he uses for road trips and his normal car is out front. It’s not like I’m not home to move my truck as when I’m home I’m usually remote working. ๐Ÿ’ป I might be working occasionally downtown but it seems like the office ๐Ÿข downtown will be largely closed through the end of the year due to social distancing requirements. ๐Ÿ‘ฅ

It was another hot day at least working inside. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ I have to try to work outside more. I also want to start doing more work on the library Wi-Fi as I noticed a slight uptick in my monthly average bandwidth and because the cellular internet can be slow and unreliable at times. Plus at the library I don’t have to worry about checking a personal site or my personal email ๐Ÿ“ง at work. I do miss having my air conditioning at the office downtown. I’ve heard they’re not planning on normal operations returning until at least winter 2021. ๐Ÿ‘พ Old Corona is going to be with use for a while.

With the sticky weather ๐Ÿ’ฆ lately I’ve having trouble sleeping ๐Ÿ˜ด and was feeling miserable by mid afternoon. I did buy mint crumble ice cream ๐Ÿจand that should have made me happy ๐Ÿ˜Š and it did but I still needed toothpicks on my eye lids to keep them open. ๐Ÿ‘€ Maybe I should buy more sleeping pills ๐Ÿ’Š and plan on early bed. I can say I’ll sleep in later but I don’t despite working at home. I charish my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ and with the sun bright so early, who can sleep? โ˜€

Tonight will have patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 62 degrees at 4am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 63 at 10pm. Light north wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1950.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 30% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 4:57 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:31 am in the east-northeast (59ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 22 seconds. Sunrise is 49 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:13 am with sun in the east-northeast (66ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 59 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 28 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 83 degrees at 3pm. Typical for Tomorrow. Maximum dew point of 64 at 8am. Another summer day for the muggers. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1997.

Tomorrow I told John Wolcott I will stop over to his house after work. ๐Ÿ”Ž Maybe we’ll find some jewels in his files ๐Ÿ“‚ but probably not. Still kind of interesting to see what’s out there. He has some boxes of Save the Pine Bush files that would be quite interesting to explore. I also am hoping to pick up soft vinyl – fiberglass screening to patch the hole in my screen tent. I figure that might be a good project to do up at camp โ›บ when I’m not at the Potholers cooling off. Good practice at my sewing skills. ๐Ÿงต

In four weeks on August 11 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (291ยฐ) at 8:02 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 29 minutes and 23 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 80 and 54 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 81 and 61 degrees. The record high of 98 degrees was set back in 1944.

Lately with all that’s been going on with work, my travels and everything else, ๐Ÿ“ I’ve been kind of neglecting my blog. I’m also working on an alternative photo uploader for my blog but I’ve struggled to get it working well. ๐Ÿ“ท I’m also working on a new page ๐Ÿ“„ and table about Moose River Plains camping opportunities.

Aa much as I’d like more stay home time ๐Ÿก to save money, I’m thinking about a trip to the Adirondacks this weekend. I am probably going to request next Monday off so I can spend a long weekend at Piseco Powley Road and the Potholers. I’m thinking of driving up on Thursday night, camping near Speculator, working at the library or along the lake all day than driving ๐Ÿš˜ down to Piseco Friday after work and camping at Powley Place through Monday. That said, Friday looks kind of shitty now. I will want to get to the Potholers at least once this summer even if it sucks that the road is still closed on the south end. I also want to see Powley Place and how much it’s changed since the bridge was destroyed. I’m tentatively thinking about doing summer vacation the first week of August this year, but where I’ve yet to decide.

Looking ahead, Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 16 weeks.

Dusk

July 13, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 69 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 62 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around noontime.

Another night ๐ŸŒƒ staying up too late as a night owl. ๐Ÿฆ‰ In part its my fault but it’s also been so hot and sticky in my apartment that it’s hard sleeping. I sat out back for a while but I miss having my truck in my normal parking ๐Ÿ…ฟ spot. I got to talk to my neighbor about the parking. I much prefer my other spot as I can plug in my phone into my truck and it gives me some privacy and solitude sitting out back.

All day I stayed home ๐Ÿก which should make the COVID-19 internet uncle police ๐Ÿšจ happy, although what they mostly get their jollies off on these days is mask wearing. ๐Ÿ˜ท I don’t mind that much the rare times I go shopping to tie a bandana around my face. ๐Ÿค  I’m back to buying only one gallon of milk at a time because I probably shouldn’t be drinking so much of my favorite bovine beverage ๐Ÿฎ and I don’t worry as much about shopping now that the pandemic is starting to slow a lot locally. As much as I want to move out west, for now it seems a lot more in control around here than out west.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before midnight, then a slight chance of showers after 3am. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 62 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 62 at 11pm. Light northwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Some showers could cool things off a bit. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 49 occurred back in 1940.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 39% illuminated. The Buck ๐ŸฆŒ Moon is on Tuesday, July 28. The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 4:57 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:30 am in the east-northeast (59ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 22 seconds. Sunrise is 49 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:12 am with sun in the east-northeast (66ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 58 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 23 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 4pm and 5pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 81 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 1st. Maximum dew point of 64 at 10am. Northwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1995.

In four weeks on August 10 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (292ยฐ) at 8:03 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 28 minutes and 36 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 76 and 57 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 81 and 61 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1949.

Ice Cave Mountain

July 12, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 73 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 65 degrees. The muggy weather ends Wednesday around 7 pm. ๐Ÿ˜“

Another hot and sticky evening ๐ŸŒƒ laying by the fan after my evening walk. ๐ŸšถIts not as bad as last night but I wish I had stayed in the National Forest for the weekend but the forecast sure looked like Saturday was going to be wet and cloudy. Instead I spent it home sitting by the fan trying to stay cool. I probably should have done more this weekend but I did make some improvements to the blog and worked on other projects at home.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 67 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 11pm. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1939.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 48% illuminated. The Buck ๐ŸฆŒ Moon is on Monday, July 27. The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 4:56 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:30 am in the east-northeast (59ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 23 seconds. Sunrise is 47 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:12 am with sun in the east-northeast (66ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 57 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 22 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8am. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 81 degrees at 1pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 1st. Maximum dew point of 67 at 9am. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 88 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1894.

Another hot day on tap but that’s to be expected this time of year. โ˜€ I haven’t made any plans yet for this week or the weekend but I guess I’ll be working from home or the library for now. Drink lots of water sit by the fan. I am sure missing the air conditioned office ๐Ÿข and library these days. Or even the cool of the buses ๐Ÿš in the morning. If it does get too hot by the end of the week I might seek out the mountains somewhere for remote work. Not sure where but my opportunities are limited by where I have good cell service.

I do need to think more about summer vacation ๐ŸŠ and request a week off the end of the month or maybe early August before the sun starts setting too early and the temperature starts dropping. ๐Ÿ‚ Been thinking more about the Finger Lakes and Alleghany National Forest but also the Western Adirondacks and Saint Lawrence County are on my short list. ๐Ÿ“ƒ When I’m on vacation I’ll be fully free to do whatever I want all day long and won’t have to worry about having cell service. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I really didn’t have a lot of free time when I was in the Green Mountains last week.

At my parents house tonight I was able to sync my blog with my laptop โ†”and get some new content uploaded for this week. It can be tough to constantly be coming up with ideas ๐Ÿ’ก and it’s hard to post things and develop code without the library open with its comfortable seating ๐Ÿ’บ inside.

In four weeks on August 9 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (292ยฐ) at 8:05 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 27 minutes and 48 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 81 and 64 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 2001.

Towards Seneca Lake

July 11, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Cloudy, humid and 72 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 70 degrees. It’s a swamp outside.

Maybe I should have stayed up in the Green Mountains for another day ๐Ÿ—ป as it was much cooler up there – most of the week was quite pleasant but it sure looked like last night was going to be a real soaker from Tropical Storm Fahy and today would be cloudy and damp. โ˜ But not so much now and it’s going to be hot in Albany. But I have fans that will help keep me cool. Thinking about maybe getting ice cream at Stewart’s when I get milk today. ๐Ÿง

Today will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 89 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 72 at 2pm. Heat index values as high as 95. Yeap, summer. Those lazy, hazy crazy days of summer. South wind 8 to 14 mph.
