Good morning! Happy School Election Tuesday. ๐Ÿšธ It’s the only time of the year that you have the ability to directly reject or approve government spending, and speak out about our education system, so I always make sure to vote. Five weeks to Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ. Likewise that is an important date at least in Albany County local elections where everything is decided on primary day.

Partly cloudy and 52 degrees at bus stop ๐Ÿš near the Valero. โ›… Breezy, ๏ธ20 mph breeze from the west-northwest ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 31 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. It wasn’t a bad walk down to the school ๐Ÿšธ to vote today. It was a quick enough of a process that I was able to catch the earlier local to work. Generally it looks like it will be a pleasant day.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 66 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 5th. Breezy, with a northwest wind 20 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1941. There was a dusting of snow in 1895.โ„

It made it easy this morning as I have my lunch at work from yesterday as I got lunch at the Haitian Day yesterday. ๐Ÿฒ So I just made up some waffles, topped with blueberries and had some coffee. โ˜• Voted โŽ and now off to work. ๐Ÿš I’ll actually be in early to the office today, which is good because I was late yesterday. I think I’ll drop off my jackets – maybe all of them – to be dried cleaned on Thursday morning. ๐Ÿ‘”

The sun will set at 8:17 pm with dusk around 8:50 pm, which is 58 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 60 degrees. Breezy, 18 mph breeze โ›… from the northwest with gusts up to 28mph. Might be a nice evening for a walk ๐Ÿšถ, and sitting out back assuming I get home at a reasonable hour.

Today will have 14 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 48 seconds over yesterday. Only thirty more days of the days getting longer, as the first day of summer is just around the corner. โ˜€ ๐ŸŠ

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 47 degrees at 5am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 17th. Northwest wind 13 to 18 mph decreasing to 7 to 12 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 2002.

I am still debating where to go this Memorial Day Weekend. โ›บ I actually think Vermont is closer then the Adirondacks and I am not crazy about listening to all the noise along NY 8 all weekend long. But I’m also kind of tired of spending holiday weekends in Vermont. Another option is backcountry camping โ›บ locally in where the black flies wouldn’t be so bad.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 78 and 55 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 95 back in 1898.

Cooking Dinner

May 20, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 66 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒŸ There is a west-northwest breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 51 degrees.

A week from now Memorial Day Weekend 2019 will be mostly over and then it will be the unofficial start to summer. ๐Ÿ˜Ž I’m sitting out back watching the fake lightening bugs from the laser light, which is pretty but it’s fairly cool with the wind. Earlier in the day it was quite humid but now the dew point has dropped. I went for my evening ๐ŸŒƒ walk a despite feeling a bit achy again.

Today was another busy day at work, ๐Ÿ’ผ which didn’t help that I went to the Haitian Day at the LOB and managed to spill food on my jacket and pants. Fortunately, I wasn’t wearing my good jacket. I’m going to have to drop it off at the dry cleaner. Not tomorrow though as I have to vote โŽ in the school ๐Ÿšธ election and I don’t want to leave my truck at the Park and Ride as it’s Brewers Association night at the LOB and it would be nice to have a few drinks ๐Ÿป and not have to drive at all.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 50 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 24th. Northwest wind 11 to 13 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 47 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1949.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 88% illuminated. The moon will set at 7:40 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Saturday night with a partly cloudy then slight chance of rain skies. The Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Sunday, June 16th. The sun will rise at 5:27 am with the first light at 4:54 am, which is 52 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 10 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 50 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 65 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 2nd. Breezy, with a northwest wind 15 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1941. There was a dusting of snow in 1895.โ„

Memorial Day Weekend is trending warmer. โ˜ Saturday, a chance of showers after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 56 at 4pm. โ˜€ Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 78. Maximum dew point of 58 at 7am. Typical average high for the weekend is 72 degrees. Still not totally sure where I will go but it would be nice to get away for the long weekend that might be quite rain free for a change.

In four weeks on June 17 the sun will be setting at 8:35 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 19 minutes and 38 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had hot, mostly sunny and temperatures between 90 and 53 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 79 and 57 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1994.

Looking ahead, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 1 week, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is a month away, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 5 weeks, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 6 weeks, Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ is in 8 weeks, Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš is in 2 months, Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 12 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 15 weeks, Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 20 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 20 months.

May 18, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 61 degrees โ˜ in Delmar. Calm wind. The dew point is 45 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 9 am.

It was a nice day, the Lupine Festival went well and I followed it up with a couple miles walking ๐Ÿšถ around Blueberry Hill. Not a lot of lupine in bloom now but some is starting and I think I saw a couple of Karner Blue Butterflies on my walk but they are sure tiny, fast moving and hard to capture on the camera. ๐Ÿ“ท

Yes, I had a lot of fun with the crayons โœand coloring our coloring book. I really like coloring. Maybe it’s a kid thing but it’s a fun way to pass the time. I’m actually thinking about getting some colored pencils and printing out some pictures, maybe using the trace edges function in Inkscape and playing with coloring like up at camp. It could be very therapeutic. Might be fun with nature study, another activity I really enjoy but not in black fly season.

The Pine Bush is such an asset to Albany ๐ŸŒฒthat so many people overlook. A wilderness in a city. It is a bit noisy in parts though due to the traffic. They are really doing a good job of maintaining the beautiful unique ecosystem – they are burning ๐Ÿ”ฅ 250 acres a year with a hope of getting closer to 500 acres although it’d tough to get favorable enough conditions and days when they can control the smoke from the burn. That’s a lot of acreage for sure. I don’t know about how they do it in the preserve but it’s fascinating to watch videos ๐Ÿ“น of farmers and ranchers burn pastures out west. Fire is a powerful tool when used respectfully.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 4am, then a slight chance of showers after 5am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 52 degrees at 5am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 30th. Maximum dew point of 47 at 6am. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1981.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 98% illuminated. The moon will set at 6:14 am. The Last Quarter Moon is next Saturday with partly cloudy skies. The Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Sunday, June 16th. The sun will rise at 5:29 am with the first light at 4:56 am, which is 56 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 14 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 55 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly after noon. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 78 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 14th. I’ll take some June weather. Best weather of the day tomorrow is expected in the morning. A touch of humidity tomorrow too. Maximum dew point of 62 at 5pm. South wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 58 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1989. There was a dusting of snow in 1976.โ„

I got two more HC-05 Bluetooth modules in the mail from China today. โœ‰ They came so quickly. Hopefully I can get these to talk together properly. I’ll use the current ones for other projects like the smart solar panel charge relay I want to build for my truck eventually. It would be nice to check the voltage of my batteries right from my phone. ๐Ÿ”‹ Hopefully I’ll find some time to work on those projects in the near future.

Speaking of batteries, I brought my extra battery and swapped it in my phone which kept it going all day strong ๐Ÿ’ช. I’m thinking of getting one of those battery banks to use while wilderness camping but just swapping out the battery in my phone is a nice lightweight alternative. ๐Ÿ“ฑ

The long range for Memorial Day Weekend looks to be fairly sunny โ˜€ with temperatures that are seasonable. A few chances for rain but generally the forecast for next weekend is quite positive but not real warm. But that’s to be expected in late May. Remember, the weather in late May is closest to mid September in Albany. ๐ŸŒธ

In four weeks on June 15 the sun will be setting at 8:35 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 20 minutes and 54 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 75 and 56 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 78 and 57 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1988.

Looking ahead, June ๐Ÿน is in 2 weeks, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 5 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 8 weeks, Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš is in 9 weeks, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 14 weeks and Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 18 weeks.

Camel's Hump

May 15, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 54 degrees โ˜ in Delmarcation. ๐ŸŒŠ Calm wind. The dew point is 45 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 9 am.

I went to the Pine Bush dinner and it was an interesting presentation.ย  ๐Ÿš The Dunn Landfill is really bad news ๐Ÿ“ฐ for Rennselear, especially the 200 trucks a day that rumble through the streets, starting in a big line at 6:30 AM every morning. It’s unfortunate that we live in a throw away everything society that when they demolish homes today, everything from the kitchen appliances to the old wood and brick go into the landfill.๐Ÿ—‘ Also George Keleshian’s presentation on so-called zero-energy, efficient buildings was interesting — he stressed conservation over generation of electricity, which was a refreshing change.

I have the Save the Pine Bush booth and will get that ready tomorrow. ๐ŸŽจ I also should probably think about running to the store as I’m very low on groceries. ๐Ÿฒ It looks like the display is in fairly good shape, but I want to make some more pictures up and run off some of the “coloring” book we are going to have for the kids there.๐Ÿ– Looks like nice weather for the Lupine Festival on Saturday.๐Ÿฆ‹

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 50 degrees at 3am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 24th. Light west wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1980.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 96% illuminated. The moon will set at 4:35 am. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is on Friday night. The sun will rise at 5:32 am with the first light at 5:00 am, which is one minute and one second earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 20 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 2 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 65 degrees at 4pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 2nd. May weather is nice for a change. Maximum dew point of 47 at 8am. Northwest wind around 8 mph. Another fairly nice day. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1991.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 67. Maximum dew point of 46 at 7am. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 71. Maximum dew point of 47 at 2pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 70 degrees. Certainly if this wasn’t lupine festival week I’d be heading out of town. ๐Ÿธ Sunday I think I’ll probably do a local hike although I’ll consider going down to West Saugerties and hiking Platte Clove. ๐Ÿ€ Some models now though are talking about more clouds and rain for Sunday.๐ŸŒฆ Somehow, I’m inclined to believe them.

In four weeks on June 12 the sun will be setting at 8:33 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 22 minutes and 40 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 82 and 57 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 77 and 56 degrees. The record high of 95 degrees was set back in 2017.

Looking ahead, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 3 weeks, Last Day of Session ๐Ÿ› is in 5 weeks, Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ is in 2 months, Altamont Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 13 weeks, State Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 14 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 17 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 19 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 88 weeks.

South Mountain Ridge

May 9, 2019 Night

Good evening! Rain showers and 57 degrees โ˜” Breezy, ๏ธ18 mph breeze from the south-southeast ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 29 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. You can hear the wind blowing around. The skies will clear Saturday around 2 am.

I went over to John Wolcott’s house for a while to keep going through his files. ๐Ÿ“‚ I found a few interesting tidbits and a lot of other random stuff that both of us struggled to figure out. Never know what you will find in the archives. I’m more interested in contemporary history although lately I’ve not seen much of that in the boxes.

John was saying Another Save the Pine Bush person is donating their family land to conservation. ๐ŸŒณI think that’s a wonderful thing to do. If some day I own 50 or 100 acres of a mountain somewhere it would be nice to donate it to a state forest preserve after my time has gone and the house is burned to the ground and the foundation backfilled in. It’s not like I’m going to need it when my time is thru.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after midnight. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 52 degrees at 3am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 30th. South wind 15 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1958.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ’ with 39% illuminated with the moon setting at 12:58 am. The moon will set at 1:00 am. The First Quarter Moon will be tomorrow with mostly cloudy skies. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Friday, May 17th. The sun will rise at 5:38 am with the first light at 5:07 am, which is one minute and 11 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 33 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 15 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 5pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 66 degrees at 5pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 5th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 4pm. South wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. I think the Western Adirondacks may have more. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 73 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1970. 5.0 inches of snow fell back in 1945.โ„

I decided to call off the weekend trip. Saturday may be half decent but the inch plus of rain we may get tomorrow – especially in the Western Adirondacks – doesn’t sound real nice. โ›บ Unless a campsite is well drained, it’s going to be saturated as will all the wood for burning. ๐Ÿ”ฅ I am a little worried about the campsites at Stewart Landing being really wet, as I don’t think they are particularly well drained and there always is some big mud puddles back there, and honestly the ground is not really firm as snow has been gone from that area less than a month now. Plus parking tomorrow in the city with the tulip festival ๐ŸŒท would be a female dog ๐Ÿถ.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 62. Northwest wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Saturday doesn’t look bad but the woods will be so wet. Maximum dew point of 41 at 6am. Maybe I could hike Platte Kill Road in West Saugerties through the gorge? Sunday, a slight chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 58. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees. I’ll take it one day at a time I guess. I’m hoping now for better weather come Memorial Day Weekend.

I’d love to have a big ass fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ and drink some beer ๐Ÿป but things can wait until Memorial Day Weekend. Probably black flies will be bad that weekend ant ๐Ÿœ but that’s what staying up late is all about. Hopefully the ground will dry out by then. If

After reading that Bloomberg article ๐Ÿ“ฐ on wealthy hermits without wills I’m actually kind of fascinated by the topic – and hermits more generally. I know that I at some point should write a will ๐Ÿ“, especially as I acquire property and would like it eventually to be public land ๐ŸŒฒfor hunting and recreation. I really like the idea of the simple life, living in the backwoods without all the material crap of modernity. Maybe a 4×4 truck, al tractor ๐Ÿšœ and an ATV but duck a television ๐Ÿ“บ or home internet.

In four weeks on June 6 the sun will be setting at 8:30 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 25 minutes and 38 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 72 and 48 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 75 and 54 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1925.

I am thinking now about a June trip to Moss Island. ๐ŸŒผ It will be warmer than and maybe more wildflowers at that point. I believe Green Acres dairy bar ๐Ÿฆwill be open and I can grab a burger ๐Ÿ” after hiking and then camp โ›บ up on Piseco Powley Road and if it’s warm enough out cool off in the potholers.

Looking ahead, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 1 weeks, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 6 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 8 weeks, August ๐ŸŒป is in 12 weeks and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 21 weeks.

Fourth and final night at Chicken Co-op Rd

May 8, 2019 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? A pleasant Get Away Hump Day, of course. Four weeks to 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ. Partly sunny and a bit cold with a temperature around 48 degrees. There is a north breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The breeze does make it feel a bit chilly.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 61 degrees at 5pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 22nd. North wind 8 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1936. There was a dusting of snow in 1977.โ„

The sun will set at 8:03 pm with dusk around 8:35 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 54 degrees. There will be a north-northeast breeze at 6 mph. Tonight I might try to get down to the park after work for a while. Today will have 14 hours and 23 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 18 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 38 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 18th. Northeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1956.

Last night I was pointing out how poor people’s understandings are of modern switch mode power supplies and buck and boost converters. ๐Ÿ”ŒEven people who are aspiring off girders and those who care about climate change have a poor understanding of electricity today. Most switch mode power supplies could care less about the AC sine wave ๐ŸŒŠ although I guess you could argue that transient voltage spikes from the switching transistors in cheap inverters lacking sufficent filtering could strain the input capicators on switch mode power supplies. Electronics are a big part of modern life, people should be informed how they work.

I was hearing that May is Natural Composting month. ๐ŸŒฝ๐Ÿ… I’m always surprised how little of that happens in the cities. Municipal composting programs have kind of fallen behind the wayside after the pig farms stopped collecting municipal waste in the 1970s. Right now I tend to mix the small amount of food waste I have with my non recyclable paper trash I burn up in camp but when I own land I’ll probably mix it with manure and compost it. ๐Ÿ’ฉ Food waste doesn’t burn well, especially in a burn barrel, and in landfills is a big source of carbon emissions.

I’m continuing to study car insurance options ๐Ÿš™. I’m starting to wonder if my plan lacks glass coverage, I probably should add it if it somehow got dropped. I might reduce my liability insurance a bit, I’m starting to think it’s a worthwhile risk to take within reason, right now I’m a fair bit above commonly issued amount and it might be a risk worth taking. I’ll have to think about it some more. Not replacing Big Red in the 2020s is an option worth considering seriously if it gets me closer to saving money ๐Ÿ’ต to buy land and move out of New York. A lot depends on my financial situation at that point and if it seems necessary to own a car then.

I am increasingly unsure about my weekend plans. โ˜€ Saturday still looks nice but I’m concerned with all the rain lately the ground will be so soft. Black flies are probably out now in many places. I kind of don’t want to set up in the pouring rain on Friday night even if Saturday will be cold but sunny. Maybe I could stick in town. But if I do that I wouldn’t be able to head out of town for another two weeks for Memorial Day Weekend. It would certainly save gas โ›ฝ to stay in town and I might need a few extra supplies.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:30 pm with dusk at 9:04 pm. Doesn’t seem they close as so many spring evenings have been cold, dark and rainy and I’ve only been to the park a few times this year. ๐Ÿ“– On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny skies, with a few rain showers and temperatures between 64 and 48 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 75 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1925.

Fourth and final night at Chicken Co-op Rd

May 5, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 56 degrees ๐ŸŒ‰. There is a east-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 11 am. Not a terrible evening but I decided against sitting out back after my evening walk. Should be a great evening for sleeping. ๐Ÿ’ค

Sipping on some nice cold drink of water with a hint of that cider vinegar. ๐Ÿ I’m so glad I quit drinking alcohol. ๐Ÿป Budwiser is so tasty now that it’s a rare treat in the wilderness. Water is so much healthier and has zero calories. And cheaper. Maybe the slight acidity is bad for the teeth but I can’t imagine it’s any worse than soda. I do get regular check ups at the dentist and I still drink a lot of milk ๐Ÿฎ although not as much as I once did as milk is kind of expensive and a lot of calories.

All and all it was a pretty sucky weekend weather wise, ๐Ÿ’ฆ but except for running to the store I pretty much stayed home. I did get groceries so I’m not totally out of food like yesterday when I was stuck eating cream of chicken soup ๐Ÿ” dunked with stale bread. Hey, it had to be used up and I was in a cranky mood yesterday so I wasn’t going to go shopping. I figured sticking around home saves money. As does using up what is at home before buying more.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain before 10pm, then a slight chance of showers between 10pm and 1am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 49 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 21st. East wind around 6 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1969.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ’ with 5% illuminated. The First Quarter Moon is on Friday night with mostly cloudy skies expected. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Friday, May 17th. The sun will rise at 5:43 am with the first light at 5:12 am, which is one minute and 17 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 42 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 22 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 71 degrees at 5pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 20th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 4pm. North wind 3 to 5 mph. Should be a nice day. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1930. There was a dusting of snow in 1994.โ„

Tomorrow is another work day but with my south facing office ๐Ÿข the sun will be nice โ˜€. I love the views of the Heldebergs and Catskills from my office and with all the greenery from the spider plants ๐ŸŒพ its always nice. I’ll definitely walk outside to the Capitol.

Over the weekend I worked on some improvements to the blog that make it easier for me to locate old content for refeaturing and updating. After all these years of blogging it becomes hard to constant think up new things. ๐Ÿ’ญ

I won the eBay auction for the hand drill ๐Ÿ”ฉ I plan to use for drilling holes in quarter inch luan plywood for building LED signs. Minimum bid $8, even with shipping I think I got a fair deal – certainly cheaper than buying new and much higher quality rool. I am thinking my first project will be a USA red white and blue sign for use at camp.๐Ÿ’ก I’ll probably just run it at five volts USB power with everything in parallel. If I drive the LEDs at 15 mA I can run 30 in parallel and draw about 1/2 amp at 5 VDC or 2.5 watts.

I also ordered two more HC-05 Bluetooth modules and a USB to serial adapter ๐Ÿ”Œ from China to replace the one I burnt up this weekend. Still haven’t paired the two together I have but I’ll figure it out eventually. I also played with the waterproof temperature sensor a bit today. I got to get it now working with the esp32 that drives my VMS display and run the wires outside so I can measure the outside temperature. โ„

I started thinking more about what life would be like without an automobile ๐Ÿš˜ this weekend. I’ve thought a lot about the savings but less about the costs – ride sharing fares, more bus fares, car rentals, laundromat, paid trash pickup vs hauling my own, and even having to either order online or buy from Hannaford rather than buy cheaper at Walmart. The big savings seem less than at first. Well I guess the same thing is true when I study car insurance ๐Ÿš™ options – big savings don’t materialize by shopping around if you want to maintain decent coverage. The way you save big bucks is by dropping the amount of coverage you have which increases your risk especially in case of severe accident. Being that I don’t own a house nor have my money tied up in property it’s less safe from liability lawsuits so I want to have decent coverage. ๐Ÿ’ต Plus I think it would mean a lot less nights in the wilderness.

Right now, next weekend looks pretty nice. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 64. Maximum dew point of 46 at 6am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 64. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 44 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees.

If the weekend forecast remains true, ๐Ÿ‘ I’m still thinking about Piseco Powley Road and then Little Falls on Saturday. โ›บ Things could change before the though. I know that the gates are closed north of the Potholers but the lower part of the road will be open and hopefully won’t be too soft. Or I could consider other alternatives.

In four weeks on June 2 the sun will be setting at 8:27 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 27 minutes and 14 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had humid, partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 78 and 60 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 74 and 53 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1895.

Looking ahead, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 1 weeks, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is a month away, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 6 weeks, Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป is in 2 months, National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ is in 10 weeks, Sunset Before 7:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 17 weeks, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 20 weeks and Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 23 weeks.
