April 15, 2019 Night

Good evening! I hope you survived this most taxing of days. I certainly did, but it was as awful as I thought. Partly clear, a blustery 40 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” Stiff breeze at 30 mph the west-northwest ๐Ÿ’จ with gusts up to 52 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. Wind at times is really roaring around tonight. The skies will clear tomorrow around noontime.

I survived another three-years worth of defensive driving class.๐Ÿ˜ณ It was as awful as usual, nothing has really changed, but I guess it’s good to freshen up on things. I doubt the class really makes people much safer drivers, but acts a selection mechanism for the safest drivers on block.๐Ÿš™ I almost didn’t take it when I heard they raised the rate for the class to $25 from $10 three years ago, but that 10% discount on insurance over three years adds up. Taxes and fines are high in New York, so don’t speed, don’t drink and drive, don’t touch your phone while driving.

I do use my cruise control a lot more these days, and keep my speed down on on the highways. Driving without speeding is a lot less stressful and saves gas. I do sometimes suffer from road rage when I see a cop, doing something I don’t think is fair, but the best thing is to just keep driving in a mostly law-abiding fashion and ignore it. ๐Ÿ‘Š I really shouldn’t take calls while driving, even with the hands free, but at least now with the latest version of Waze I don’t have to touch the phone to run most commands like report a police trap — and anything that is more then simple to do — I just pull off at the next safe spot.

I’ve never texted anyone while driving, but I do read text messages and email headers when they pop up on my phone in the hands-holder,๐Ÿ“ฑ in big text, which is near my line of sight. If I need to respond, I will pull over where lawful, or call back on the hands-free phone. I’m much more careful with the CB radio, which to operate it, being mounted as low as it is, can be difficult to operate.

After the 6-hour class, I decided to go into work for the final two hours of the day. ๐Ÿ“As I have an hour paid lunch, I only ended up having to use 5-hours of personal time, and honestly I don’t have that much personal time, and I’ve earned a lot of comp time over the past few months. ๐Ÿ’ผ Work was a bit of clusterduck when I got there, I kind of picked a busy day to be out. But things that got done happened, and life moves on. Probably good that I decided to go to the office for a few hours this afternoon. I’m still thinking about taking a day or two off next week.

Wireless headphones weren’t working on my phone ๐Ÿ”‡ today which made for a long bus ride home. ๐ŸŽง I think I just needed to update the software on my phone. ๐Ÿ“ฑ Now they work perfectly after I updated the firmware.

I was pretty tired after all that happened today, as that defensive driver class is pretty intense while also being superboring, as the videos haven’t changed in 30 years. I did walk down to the library for a while, ๐Ÿ“šand worked on some stuff down there for a while. Mostly just a lot of catching up, some fixing a nasty little bug I discovered in my blog. At least the rain is gone for now, but it’s cooled down a lot. I’m going to turn off the lights and head to bed in a bit. ๐Ÿ˜ด

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 35 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 10th. Windy, with a northwest wind 22 to 31 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 22 occurred back in 1981.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 92% illuminated. The moon will set at 5:01 am. The ๐ŸŒ• is on Thursday night with a slight chance of showers then chance of showers. The sun will rise at 6:12 am with the first light at 5:43 am, which is one minute and 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 33 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over last night.

Much nicer weather tomorrow. It will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 59 degrees at 3pm. Typical for mid April. Breezy, with a northwest wind 20 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 2012. 5.3 inches of snow fell back in 1983.โ„

I’m hoping for a better day tomorrow. I’ll be getting paid tomorrow which is good, ๐Ÿ’ธalthough much of those funds have already been allocated for various purposes. But I should have enough money to do an end of the month road trip, although I’m thinking it may be just to the East Branch through I’m considering still going up to the Adirondacks North Country.

Easter weekend continues to look wet and cloudy. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Maximum dew point of 57 at 6am. Sunday, a chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 63. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 46 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 61 degrees.

This next weekend I’m going to most likely stick around town although if I get a nice day I might go down to the Catskills and hike up Platte Clove Road. ๐Ÿšถ Or maybe do some fishing on the Eight Mile Creek. ๐ŸŽฃ I’m not sure, it all depends on the weather. I also have projects that I can work on at home. Obviously staying home is the cheapest option but it might be fun to get out of town.

The weekend after next I’m definitely looking to get out of town. By then it looks like the weather will moderate and it could be quite sunny and warm. โ˜€ I would camp, โ›บ fishing ๐ŸŽฃ, and maybe some hiking. ๐Ÿšถ It should be a great weekend to kick off the 2019 camping season. Probably take off Friday of that week and maybe also Thursday. I’m not going to take any time off though although until it gets closer and the forecast is more certain but the 8-14 day outlook looks good for now.

In four weeks on May 13 the sun will be setting at 8:09 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 19 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 68 and 48 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 69 and 46 degrees. The record high of 86 degrees was set back in 2004.

Looking ahead, Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ is in 1 week, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 6 weeks, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 10 weeks, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 11 weeks, Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ is in 3 months, Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 17 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 20 weeks and Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 25 weeks.

Pattern

April 8, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. The problem is all inside your head she said to me. The answer is simple if you take it logically. Next Monday is Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ. Happy poverty day next week. Cloudy, damp, but no rain right now around 52 degrees in the land of the Delmaritian. โ˜” There is a light south-southeast breeze. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 46 degrees. I’m thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ the rain should start greening up the grass in city. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Hop on the bus Gus, don’t need to discuss much. With the dark skies โ˜ it was had to get going this morning and I sprinted down to the bus stop ๐Ÿšas the bus approached. It’s a Monday but I’m hoping this won’t be too ungodly of a week at work. ๐ŸฆTaking a regular 40 foot bus downtown, Gillig 4175. I had a bit of a headache this morning, which made it tough to get out of bed early.

Today will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 67 degrees at 5pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around May 6th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 2pm. South wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 88 was set in 1929. 4.5 inches of snow fell back in 1907.โ„

Back to work today. Not a pay day today but one next week. I’m fine with that as next Monday is tax day when I pay the state and then the following Tuesday the state pays me a paycheck. ๐Ÿ”„ It’s called recycling. It’s what you do Earth Day that is for the cans and others things that don’t burn well. Granted I always try to do good work for my paycheck, I can’t say the opposite is true. I think I’m signed up for defensive driving that day, I’ll have to check my schedule and take the appropriate day off from work.

I can’t complain that much about the rain โ˜” as things were getting kind of dried out yesterday and there was a brush fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ yesterday up by Tommells Feedlot ๐Ÿฎ or maybe the Clarksville dump and transfer station. While one can say Pete Grannis’ open burning regulations are retarded, you can see the sensibility of the regulations in Virginia that ban burning before six PM when the humidity increases. You can always compost brush or buy a trash can to store trash until it gets wetter out. And keep a hose handy and an eye on whatever you are burning.

At least it was warm enough to leave the windows open all night which made for good sleeping. ๐Ÿ”ฒ 68 degrees in the bedroom when I fell asleep, 61 degrees by morning when I got out of bed. It got up to 74 degrees in my bedroom by afternoon yesterday. Sure beats struggling to keep the heat in the mid 50s in the winter. โ„ I really enjoy the fresh air in them morning. ๐Ÿƒ It’s even better when it’s summer and I’m camping up in the wilderness.

The sun will set at 7:29 pm with dusk around 7:58 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 63 degrees. The dew point will be 48 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 45 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 8th. West wind 5 to 9 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 23 degrees. The record low of 16 occurred back in 1977.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly after noon. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 59 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 16th. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 77 was set in 1991. 13.3 inches of snow fell back in 2000.โ„

Yesterday was kind of a gray day, kind of hazy with thicker clouds in the afternoon. I wouldn’t say it was a bad day, although I hate hazy spring days with the light so defuse it kind of gives me a headache and makes it a bit hard to see as everything is kind of gray. โ˜ I didn’t feel all that great either. Not sick but not well either.

Needless to say, I didnโ€™t go to the Catskills to hike although I did go for a short walk on the rail trail up to Font Grove before turning around and heading home because I was tired of nearly tripping over the dog walkers ๐Ÿถ and getting run over by the cyclist ๐Ÿšด. I don’t go for a walk or out in nature be surrounded by a million people. If I wanted to be in crowds I’d just go downtown like I do for work.

My parents cooked steak and the fixings on the grill for Sunday dinner. ๐Ÿ– It was a nice dinner and they made brownies for desert. Made it home before dark tonight. ๐ŸŒ… That’s good because last night was so dark driving home and there was a shit ton of deer along the road looking to hand out $250 collision deductibles. Fortunately I made it home safely, then hung my clothes in the closet in preparation for the work week.

Did some cleaning on the bathroom ๐Ÿšฝ after buying a new plastic brush and some toilet cleaner. I’ve tried laundry soap but I have better luck with the toilet cleaner. Also cleaned out the shower ๐Ÿšฟ, it was kind of a mess with soap scum. The soap dissolving acid works well. I could probably do a lot more scrubbing throughout my apartment but cleaning really ain’t my fortay. I kind of like my rundown apartment, that’s why I’ve lived here nearly 12 years.

I went for my evening walk and it was warm enough to sit out back for an hour and listen to the spring peepers. ๐Ÿธ Not really loud tonight but they’re singing ๐ŸŽถ their song. No stars โœจ as it was cloudy with the rain pushing in. I thought about buying a case of beer ๐Ÿป for drinking out back but I really don’t like the expense or health consequences of drinking alcohol anymore. Alcohol not only gets you intoxicated and leaves you with a hang over, it’s a carcinogen. ๐Ÿšฌ Plus you get drinking and the next thing you want is a drag on a cigarette and that’s even worse.

As previously noted, next Monday is Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ when the sun will be setting at 7:37 pm with dusk at 8:06 pm. On that day in 2018, we had freezing rain showers, cold, mostly cloudy and temperatures between 36 and 28 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 58 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2003.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 60. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 55. Typical average high for the weekend is 57 degrees.

This next weekend the plan is to take the bottles and cans to the transfer station, โ™ป after cleaning out the refrigerator and searching the bathroom for recyclable cans and bottles. Then I’ll repack my truck for camping โ›บ. I also want to get that new brake switch installed โญ• and hopefully have the cruise control working again on the truck. I don’t know if I will go camping during the following Easter weekend ๐Ÿฐ as the weather currently doesn’t look that great and there is a lot of snow up north but I could change my mind. ๐Ÿ˜€

I am glad that it appears that I can fix the cruise control and problems with getting the truck out of park ๐Ÿ…ฟ by replacing the sub $20 brake switch next weekend. Probability on Saturday if I can get up to GM to buy another switch this week. I like things that are simple and easy to fix.๐Ÿ”ง I hate not having cruise control, as I’m so used to driving with it on all the time as it keeps my truck going at a lawful speed. ๐Ÿš™I’m willing to pay to get it fixed, if replacing the switch doesn’t fix it because having it working is cheaper than a ticket ๐ŸŽซ. The truck is easy to speed in with the highway gearing that makes it want to go faster than is lawful.

I saw yet another cop ๐Ÿ‘ฎ on 32 coming home from my parents tonight. They must be working overtime to pay for the governor’s million dollar pay raise. Must be nice to have a job that you are virtually guaranteed to get million dollars ๐Ÿ’ต after four years. I’d take if offered, invest virtually all of it, buy land out in the country after my first four years as governor and basically retire. I save whatever I can these days and I work hard at my job but I’m not making any million dollars every four years. ๐Ÿ’ฐ

Earth Day is a week from Monday ๐ŸŒŽ so I’ll working that day but maybe the previous day I’ll be up in the wilderness. At least I’ll be riding public transportation to get to work ๐ŸšŒand I always try to avoid waste wherever possible in my own life as money spent on things today is stolen from my future. It annoys me when people talk about how green they are, but consume 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity each month for their 5,000 square foot house, and always have a full trash can each week, even though they wash out their cans and eat organic food, half of which ends up in their composter because it rots before they eat it.

Tonight is the public hearing the county legislature is holding on taxing paper bags. ๐Ÿ“„Liberals think it’s the best thing since sliced bread ๐Ÿž as they have never seen a tax that they don’t like, even though the only benefit of the tax is it means that the county gets a few cents to buy filmsy woven plastic bags with County Executive Dan McCoy’s name to remind people of the importance of the re-election of incumbents.๐Ÿ“ฎ I wrote my legislature, I am not going to waste my time at a public hearing that’s going to be packed with the greenies who already know the legislature will enact this law.

Certainly PAUSE loves the tax, because apparently banning paper bags gives them a bigger boner ๐Ÿ†than saving the Pine Bush from yet another development. I’m just cranky that my county legislator who I didn’t vote for didn’t reply back to my email on this topic. I guess it doesn’t matter that much, I’m planning on using plastic milk crates for bringing home my groceries when the bags are finally banned.๐Ÿ“ฆI think the crates are a much easier way to keep organized and clean for bringing home groceries.

Definitely all and all a good weekend. ๐Ÿ‘I can look in despair at the direction of our country both at the local and federal level, but ultimately each day I’m saving more money ๐Ÿ’ต and taking care of my future even as our world ๐ŸŒ falls apart. I can’t change the world but I can better myself and my future. Plus I’m looking forward to camping โ›บ and traveling in a few weeks. Snow won’t last that much longer up north.

In four weeks on May 6 the sun will be setting at 8:01 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 42 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had rain showers, partly sunny and temperatures between 65 and 54 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 67 and 44 degrees. The record high of 89 degrees was set back in 1930.

Looking ahead, Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ is in 1 weeks, Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ is in 2 weeks, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 7 weeks, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 11 weeks, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 12 weeks, Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ is in 14 weeks, Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 18 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 21 weeks and Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 26 weeks.

 Main Street

March 31, 2019 Morning

Good morning! March is almost done. Next Sunday is 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡. Partly cloudy, blustery and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ 17 mph breeze from the south ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 34 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. You hear the wind pick up from time to time. ๐Ÿƒ The dew point is 44 degrees. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around noontime. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

It was nice having some sun this morning as I got up for work. Rain showers are expected to push in shortly though. โ˜” I’m off to the shower ๐Ÿšฟ and then to a long day at work on this final day of March 2019 that’s more like a wet wool smelling lamb then anything else. Woke up early around 5 AM then fell back asleep. ๐Ÿ’ค I’ve been waking up a lot around 4:30 AM many mornings, not sure why, maybe it’s because I’ve been going to bed early.

I turned the heat back on ๐Ÿ”ฅ before leaving for work, as tomorrow will be pretty cold. It’s set to 50 degrees. Too warm inside to kick on until later, but I don’t know how late I’ll return tonight. Only need it through Tuesday morning, ๐Ÿ˜Šat which point I hope the heat can be off until October. It’s not that expensive but I need to save some money with camping season just around the corner.

Today will have showers, mainly after 8am. Temperature falling to around 43 by 3pm. Breezy, with a south wind 14 to 20 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had sunny in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 56 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1998. 14.6 inches of snow fell back in 1997.โ„

The sun will set at 7:20 pm with dusk around 7:48 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 39 degrees. Breezy, 18 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 31mph. Today will have 12 hours and 42 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow showers before midnight, then a slight chance of snow showers between midnight and 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 28 degrees at 6am. Four degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 23rd. Northwest wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. In 2018, we had cloudy in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 27 degrees. The record low of 9 occurred back in 1923.

As previously noted, Monday will be sunny but cold ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 44 degrees at 4pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 16th. Breezy, with a northwest wind 18 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. A year ago, we had sunny in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 77 was set in 1986. 5.0 inches of snow fell back in 1924.โ„

The one day weekend came and went pretty quickly for me. Back to work on this Sunday morning.๐Ÿ˜ฎ Not that I had big ambitions for today, it’s kind of a rather wet and rainy day.๐Ÿ’ฆ Yesterday, despite the clouds was a pretty mild and nice day – the Pine Bush Hike was nice as was Bennett a Hill. ๐ŸšถI’ll post my Bennett Hill photos later on today.๐Ÿ“ท

Nice hiking up Bennett Hill yesterday. Those cows next to the mountain though sure were muddy. ๐Ÿ„It looked like their path back to the barn was a bit flooded too. Cows are fairly hardy animals but wet feet just like humans can cause all kinds of problems too. Not a bad hike but a lot of people on the mountain.

Driving out to my parents house, past my neighbors house with their hobby farm with pigs, cows, goats, chickens,๐Ÿท๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿค and God knows what else reminded me how jealous I am of them and their redneck life with all their knowledge and toys I’ll never have. Even if I work hard and invest everything I can, I’ll never be able to achieve the life that they did. ๐Ÿ”จThey’re is something so wonderful and charming about the redneck life.

I went out and saw the folks yesterday for dinner, hanging my hammock up and relaxing out front there. ๐Ÿ˜I wouldn’t mind using the hammock where I live but the landlord chopped down all the trees in the yard. Well I’ll get plenty of use this summer. ๐ŸธI’m thinking about doing some hammock camping in the back country this summer. Once black fly season is done for sure.

I went out for my evening walk and sat out back for a while, still a pretty mild evening although in some ways I prefer laying in my bed compared to the lawn chair. ๐Ÿšถ Had a nice glass of cider vinegar water and retired to bed around 9:30, listening to a podcast for a while.๐ŸŽถ I tried to get as much sleep as possible as I know today is going to be a long day.

I bought about $30 on groceries yesterday but today driving into work I’m going to buy some pan spray, ๐Ÿณ which I forgot plus some candy ๐Ÿฌ to hand out in the office plus some energy shots. Even if I don’t take them tonight to keep my alert for the drive home, they’re good to keep in my truck should I get tired driving up to camp one night. โ˜• Energy shots are good for keeping awake without having to stop and pee along the road every five minutes. I also need to gas up the truck this morning, โ›ฝ first time in a month. Gas prices have gone up a lot.

Stopped at Falvo’s on the way back from the Save the Pine Bush Hike and bought some more of their meat balls. ๐ŸI have a full pack in the freezer but my parents swear by them and I figured I should buy them before they are gone for good. Those old fashioned butcher shops are all a dying breed and the owners there are a million years old.๐Ÿ‘ต I missed out on ever going to Toll Gate Ice Cream ๐Ÿฆand I don’t want to not have a few good meals from there.

I noticed the cruise control isn’t working on my truck even in the warm weather due to that sensor that is malfunctioning.๐Ÿ”Ž Not critical, more annoying, I thought it only was a cold weather problem. I might have the General fix๐Ÿ”ง it the next time I have an oil change done๐Ÿ’ธ. Annoying enough I think I’m willing to pay for the fix, especially if I’m heading out a lot more to spend time in the Adirondacks camping this summer.๐Ÿš—

The long range looks cloudy but mild for next weekend. Next Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 58. โ˜ Typical average high for the weekend is 54 degrees.

In four weeks on April 28 the sun will be setting at 7:52 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 51 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 68 and 45 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 64 and 42 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 1990.

Looking ahead, 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 1 weeks, Palm Sunday ๐ŸŒด is in 2 weeks, Easter ๐Ÿฐ is in 3 weeks, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 5 weeks, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 6 weeks, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 11 weeks, National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ is in 15 weeks, Sunset Before 7:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 22 weeks, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 25 weeks and Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 28 weeks.

Upper Falls

March 27, 2019 Morning

Good morning! What day is it?Final Hump Day of March, of course. Five weeks to May ๐Ÿ•Š. At least there is a few weeks in early May when there is no black flies. Sunny and 25 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind.Things will start to thaw out at around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Another cold but at least sunny morning. โ„ At least I think we are most likely done with snow for the year in the Albany area. I heard the heat click on for a while then shut off. I think tomorrow I’ll turn it off hopefully until late October or early November. It’s good that it’s going to warm up to the fifties by afternoon. ๐ŸŒทBig Red accessory battery should be floating in a few hours. ๐Ÿ”‹

Was a bit stiff and sore this morning but that’s part of growing old. ๐Ÿ‘ด I did get a fairly early start despite being relatively cold in my bedroom because the heat is turned down. Listening again to John Denver๐ŸŽถ as the bus gently rocks on its journey downtown. ๐ŸšShould be a nice days with lots of sun streaming into the office, good for taking a break and studying the mountains.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 50 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 28th. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1998. 6.7 inches of snow fell back in 1959.โ„

The sun will set at 7:16 pm with dusk around 7:44 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 42 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 30 degrees at 4am. Typical for tonight. South wind around 7 mph. In 2018, we had partly cloudy in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 3 occurred back in 1923.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 60 degrees at 3pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 18th. That’s going to be super nice. South wind 9 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 85 was set in 1945. 14.2 inches of snow fell back in 1932.โ„

Tuesday came and went. It was a good day, maybe fairly busy at work but it made the time go by quickly.๐Ÿ’ผ Took the 6:45 bus home, a virtually brand new bus, and then rode the exercise bike ๐Ÿšฒ for a half hour or so then went out for my evening walk. Hot dogs and baked beans for dinner with some frozen pineapple ๐Ÿ and banana ๐ŸŒ slices for dessert. I’m not that much into health food but I’m on a budget and frozen fruit is often more tasty and affordable than junk food. It’s less packaging too.

Evening walk ๐Ÿšถ was pleasant with lots of stars. ๐ŸŒƒ Chilly though. Looking forward to nicer weather when I can sit out back again. I think after tomorrow night the heat will be done for the year although I don’t see any balmy nights in the near future on tap but the hard freezing weather is nearly done for the year. I’d love ๐Ÿ˜ nights when I can leave the windows open but not so hot I run the fan all night. The big box fan I have is remarkably energy hungry, using upwards of 60 watts each hour it’s run on high. I know fossil energy โšก is cheap but that seems awful wasteful. Sitting out back on a summers night listening to the spring peepers is really nice I must say. ๐Ÿธ Still too cold for that yet. For a while we had a Great Horned Owl in the neighborhood ๐Ÿญ who really gave a hoot.

Yesterday in the evening I went up to the old observation deck on the 31st floor of the Alfred E Smith Building ๐Ÿข which is primarily used as a state conference room nowadays with the doors to the deck are closed off most of the year. Interesting to see up there, it’s too bad it’s closed to the general public nowadays. Neat to see it.๐Ÿ“ท The anti jumping fence around the deck does kind of block the view though.

Finally set up my account with the state tax department to pay taxes quarterly to ensure I don’t risk an underpayment fine in 2020.๐Ÿ˜ข I keep cutting it closer each year and I really don’t want to pay a fine next year. Unfortunately there is no way to make automatic payments on and ongoing basis with the state tax department, although you can schedule four quarters of tax payments or out a full year on the website.๐Ÿ’ธ I’m going to just do enough so I have a margin of safety but hopefully only owe a small amount to the state next year. I mean I wouldn’t want the governor or the gestapo that he operates to profit on my interest.

Bought more milk at Stewart’s. ๐ŸฎMissplaced my milk card ๐Ÿ’ณ then found it later on. I have so many milk cards to redeem at some point in the future. I’m drinking less milk now though after discovering the wonders of cider vinegar and water though. ๐Ÿ Saves money.

Each day I briefly log onto Facebook to see what my clients and some of my friends are up to but I find it’s hard to leave it on for more than a few minutes. ๐Ÿ’ป I try to be very strategic with my use of social media – especially Facebook – updating the Save the Pine Bush page and my personal page, checking a few other things before shutting it down. It just brings much more joy to my life not getting swamped down by all of it. I think I would like Facebook better if it just was pictures of cattle, turkeys and deer.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 50 at 1pm. Sunday, showers likely, mainly before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees.

Again I have no idea what the weekend will look like for me ๐ŸŒฒbut I have no real plans. My best guess is that I will be working Sunday. Maybe Saturday I can do the Save the Pine Bush Hike but I’m not holding my breath on that. The weekend will certainly be fairly mild. I guess March is leaving like a mud crusted lamb that smells like manure and wet wool.

The following week I’ll probably stay in town, take my bottles and cans to the recycling center โ™ป. Like usually happens this time of year, I’m running out of room in the outside trash cans so I’m starting to stack the bottles and cans in my truck. Then maybe start packing my truck for camping. โ›บStill thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ about heading out a few days before Good Friday. โž• Probably still head out to the East Branch of the Sacandaga River and then maybe drive up through the Adirondacks to the North Country.

I do like my neighbors big jacked up truck. It makes mine look so small. ๐Ÿš› I just hate how all the kids in the neighborhood have nicer toys than me. So be it. Big Red is quite sweet on his own behalf and he’s paid for and seems to run better than my neighbors big diesel. But ultimately I think I primarily care more about eventually owning land and having fires to burn things whenever I want. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

In four weeks on April 24 the sun will be setting at 7:47 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 53 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny skies with rain showers and temperatures between 70 and 45 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 62 and 40 degrees. The record high of 81 degrees was set back in 2001.

I do look forward to the weekends up in the wilderness, getting away from all of it for a few days. ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณThen spending time down in the swimming ๐ŸŠ holes, kayaking and hiking in woods. The fires ๐Ÿ”ฅ, the cold beer ๐Ÿป, the music ๐ŸŽถ and the lights. ๐ŸŽ„

99 days until Independence Day this year. I know because it was hundred days when I wrote this blog post last night. ๐Ÿ“ It’s a Thursday this year and I assume they’ll give us off that Friday. ๐ŸŽ‡I’m thinking about a long weekend that weekend at the Moose River Plains although I might change my mind. Maybe drive up to Speculator Tree Farm on Wednesday night then to the Plains first thing on Independence Day. ๐ŸŽˆI could change my mind, and certainly Memorial Day Weekend is long before then.

Looking ahead, Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ is a month away, May ๐Ÿ•Š is in 5 weeks, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 2 months, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 10 weeks, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 13 weeks, Altamont Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 20 weeks, State Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 21 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 24 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 26 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 95 weeks.

Sabbath Day Point

March 22, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Three weeks to Grilled Cheese Day ๐Ÿง€. A mix of rain and snow flurries and 34 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ„ Above freezing here but I saw a sander come through while I was walking down to the park and ride.๐Ÿšš There is a north breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around noontime. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I was on the fence about walking ๐Ÿšถ down to the express bus ๐Ÿš but ultimately I decided it wasn’t raining or snowing all that hard. It turned out not to be too bad for walking and I got some free exercise out of it. Just going to be one of those rainy โ˜” Fridays.

Today will rain and snow, becoming all rain after noon. ๐ŸŒง High of 41 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 11th. Northwest wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2012. 7.0 inches of snow fell back in 1887.โ„

I guess rain โ˜” is a good thing, as it will keep things from getting too dried out, and thaw out the ground for all the farmer ๐Ÿšœ types that want to sling manure. ๐Ÿ’ฉ Lots of mud though. I think they are getting wet snow in the Adirondacks ๐Ÿ—ป which means it will be longer before it melts away up there. It will happen though, as spring ๐ŸŒธ always comes eventually and it will be ninety degrees out and humid. Beach weather!๐Ÿ–

The sun will set at 7:10 pm with dusk around 7:38 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for even more rain ๐ŸŒง and snow ๐ŸŒจ and temperatures around 37 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain and snow, becoming all snow after 10pm. ๐ŸŒง Low of 27 degrees at 6am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 21st. Blustery, with a northwest wind 14 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. In 2018, we had partly cloudy. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of -04 occurred back in 1875.

Tomorrow will have a chance of snow showers before 8am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 39 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 3rd. Breezy, with a northwest wind 21 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 80 was set in 1938. 2.7 inches of snow fell back in 2005.โ„ Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 54. West wind 6 to 8 mph. Typical average high for the weekend is 47 degrees.

At some point this weekend I should go to JC Penny and see if they have any dress shirts that I like ๐Ÿ‘š, so I have enough for next week. I haven’t heard back from John yet about going over to his house, it also depends if I get a cold. Still thinking about doing some hiking or skiing ๐ŸŽฟ this weekend, it depends on how things go. I’d rather save some money now if the weather isn’t great and do things around home if it looks cloudy and cold. Maybe also I want to unpack my camping gear, and start loading up the cans ๐Ÿพ and glass ๐Ÿฅซto take to the recycling center.โ™ป I also need to clean out my refigerator, dump the food waste into compost, and clean the containers for recycling.

I signed up for defensive driving ๐Ÿš˜ on April 15th. Cost has gone up to $25, makes me want to think about doing an online class in future years. I’ve been thinking about readjusting my insurance or shopping around – it’s gotten a lot more expensive in recent years ever since I increased my liability insurance a few years back. ๐Ÿ’ฃ

Later that week maybe on the 17th or 18th of April, right before Good Friday, I will probably head up to the Adirondacks to camp โ›บ and fish.๐ŸŽฃ I am increasingly leaning towards doing a trip heading up NY 30, spread out over a couple of days, maybe spending one night near the St. Regis Canoe Area, ending the long weekend at Brasher State Forest. All depends a lot on how much snow they have up there, and what I feel like doing. A Central NY trip, fishing the Chittenango Creek and Genegantslet Creek, visiting different state forests could be fun too, but I kind of want to get up to the Adirondacks. I should study the stocking schedules, ๐ŸŸ so I know where would be a good place to fish.

In four weeks on Good Friday, April 19 the sun will be setting at 7:42 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 56 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had cold, partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 44 and 34 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 60 and 39 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 1976.

Looking ahead, Grilled Cheese Day ๐Ÿง€ is in 3 weeks, Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ is a month away, Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 8 weeks, Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ is in 9 weeks, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 3 months, Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป is in 15 weeks, Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 23 weeks and Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 6 months.

Getting Tired of Camping and Traveling in the Same Places

I have to admit I am getting tired of visiting the same places every time I go out and camp. It seems like lately, I’ve been following almost the same schedule every year, never mixing it up for the holiday weeks.

I’ve been thinking about some alternatives this year — things to for me to consider — not necessarily what I will end up doing.

Memorial Day Weekend to East Branch of Sacanadaga River?

I am getting tired of going out to Vermont each year for Memorial Day Weekend. That weekend is often too wet and buggy to be great for camping, so I’m thinking this year if I want to enjoy the long weekend, I should think about not going so far away — maybe some camping along the East Branch of Sacandaga River?

Summer Trip to the Adirondacks and North Country?

I haven’t done a summer trip up through the Adirondacks in years. I have spent little time in the North Country. Rather then doing the Finger Lakes again, this might be a good alternative.

Autumn Trip to Southern Ohio?

I am thinking rather then West Virginia this year, I could go out to Southern Ohio for my autumn road trip. There is the Warren National Forest down there, which would be a nice change compared to always going to West Virginia.

Setting Sun

February 21, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Four weeks to Spring ๐ŸŒท. Ain’t that good news. It was cloudy to start out the day, now partly cloudy but clearing and 36 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground but melting fast. โ˜ƒ It looks like the ice storm they were threatening did not materialize to much, it’s already getting nicer out. Maybe not spring but warm enough to turn the heat back down. ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at around 11 pm.

Even on a dark mornings like today started out, โ˜ the lights in my bedroom continue to be quite bright making it easier to get up and going. That said, by getting to bed at a proper time and then the earlier sunrise ๐ŸŒ… makes it much easier to get out of bed. โ˜•ย Waffles and coffee for breakfast, took a shower, walked down to the express bus.๐Ÿš

The severe weather turned out to be a bust. โ˜”Some rain coming home but the treated surfaces weren’t bad at all. This morning the roads were fine, and the sidewalks weren’t that slippery but I think they could have used a plow.๐ŸŒจย By morning, it was partly sunny and the roads just wet. I think by the end of the day, the sidewalks will have melted away, with the sun and warmth coming today, along with a wind which will probably expose some bare spots on the ground.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 43 degrees at 12pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 12th. Breezy, with a south wind 6 to 11 mph becoming west 18 to 23 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 37 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which cleared to mostly sunny conditions by afternoon. The high last year was 73 degrees. That’s the record high for the day. This winter though, it seems like winter won’t hit . 11.0 inches of snow fell back in 1929.โ„

The sun will set at 5:35 pm with dusk around 6:03 pm, which is one minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 39 degrees. Breezy, 21 mph breeze โ›… from the west with gusts up to 33mph. Today will have 10 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 27 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 19th. Breezy, with a northwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of -08 occurred back in 1963.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 42 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 10th. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 1997. 14.8 inches of snow fell back in 1893.โ„

After I posted my essay yesterday about not having Internet,ย I got yet another glossy advertisement from Spectrum Cable,ย trying to get me to sign up. ๐Ÿ•ธย I tossed it promptly in the recycling bin.ย โ™ปย I am quite happy not having Internet at home, it’s just obnoxious how they always try to get me to sign up.

I have to say that the Save the Pine Bush dinner last night was one of the most interesting ones I’ve been to in a long time.๐Ÿ“ข Ward Stone was great as was Keith Shue who between the two gave us a good background of the ANSWERS plant’s history and the troublesome future. I was very surprised to learn that should the state put a co generation plant in the ANSWERS facility it will increase emissions by over 50% over the existing steam plant, ๐Ÿญand it will be running nearly all the time compared to the steam plant that only runs part time, especially in modest weather.โ™จ

I really like the improvements to Google Maps on the transit๐ŸšŒ front – I finally upgraded the app which doesn’t happen automatically as I have limited space.๐Ÿ“ฒ I like how the app is cleaner with transit information, tells you in big numbers how long you have to wait, how late the bus is running compared to what it’s scheduled to arrive at. Just update Google Maps and try out the app. Mine doesn’t update automatically, as my phone is always short of memory. I also am finding the battery isn’t a holding a charge very long. I may have to think about plunking down $50 for a new phone come summer. But I will have gotten 2 years out of the Tracphone, which is pretty good for those cheap phones that are just landfill fodder — although even expensive phones these days are basically the same thing.ย ๐Ÿ—‘

I am continuing to work on figuring out on how to build my smart relay for my truck.ย It makes a lot of sense to integrate the GPS logger I built with it now that I think about it more, ๐Ÿ—บย and maybe also bluetooth so I can monitor battery voltages,ย ๐Ÿ”‹ย and the status of the system from my phone when I’m sitting by the campfire. Thenย  I was thinking I could use a hall-effect sensor with it too, and monitor the amperage coming off the solar panel, so I could easily see the power coming off the panel. But then again, that would make the code a lot more complicated. I have ideas, the thing I have build them so they can become more then ideas.๐Ÿค”

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 42. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. Going to be great weather for the Save the Pine Bush Hike, assuming the trails aren’t too slushy.ย ๐Ÿ‘ขย Although who knows how much snow will be left come Saturday, and the sand doesn’t always trap the water and muck too much. Sunday, rain before 1pm, then showers likely after 1pm. High near 51. ๐Ÿ’ฆย At least it will keep the heat at minimum over the weekend, assuming it’s not too damp and chilly inside. I doubt though I’ll be opening the windows, but at least I’ll save on heating, which is good because my bills have been kind of high this year Chance of precipitation is 80%. Typical average high for the weekend is 37 degrees. Above average for a few days then, cooling down for next week.

In four weeks, which is one month from now, is theย First Day of Springย ๐ŸŒทย  on March 21 the sun will be setting at 7:09 pm (Daylight Savings Time),ย ๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 33 minutes and 41 seconds later then today. Dusk is at 7:38 PM, which means I might be able to go to the park after work, if it’s not too wet or cold.๐Ÿž In 2018 on that day, we had cloudy and temperatures between 37 and 25 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 46 and 27 degrees. The record high of 78 degrees was set back in 1921. I know I am definitely looking forward to spring, especially once the snow melts and I can start spending more time in the wilderness camping ๐Ÿ•and having a nice fire or two.๐Ÿ”ฅ

Looking ahead, Spring ๐ŸŒท is a month away, Average High is 50 ๐ŸŒธ is in 5 weeks, Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ is in 8 weeks, Easter ๐Ÿฐ is in 2 months, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 12 weeks (cows like to chew their cud when it’s not too warm), Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 19 weeks and August ๐ŸŒป is in 23 weeks.

After Dark
