Good evening! Partly cloudy and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒƒ There is a west-southwest breeze at 14 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 66 degrees. The skies will clear around 9 pm.

Sitting out back looking up at the stars โœจ, listening to the Chimes of Freedom as the moon ๐ŸŽ‘ rises. It’s a pretty nice evening after what was a rather crazy weather day โ›ˆ๏ธ which kind of roared all around the area barely touched me in Delmar. I went out for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ earlier then normal and there was a ton of people out about. ๐Ÿ‘ฏโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ซ๐Ÿ‘ญ I normally don’t see a lot of people when I walk at nine o’clock.

I do like the very aggressive blue light filter on my new phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ and many of the features that come with having a much more modern phone. It does use quite bit more data but I have a decent data package ๐Ÿ“ฆ so it’s not a big deal. The more modern versions of Android has a lot of small improvements but nice ones.

For tonight it will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 64 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 66 at 9pm. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 43 occurred back in 1972.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 97% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 5:20 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:52 am in the east-northeast (66ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 11 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 3 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:31 am with sun in the east-northeast (72ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 40 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 17 seconds over last night.

I asked about taking next week off ๐Ÿ–๏ธand that seems increasingly likely. I’m not sure if I’ll get all week off but I can remote work for anything that comes up. ๐Ÿ“ฑ My new phone is pretty amazing and I can do a lot of my work stuff on, especially capable for only sixty bucks. That said I’ll pack the work laptop and if I need to work at the library Wi-Fi ๐Ÿ“ถit will work fine.

I’m not sure how nice the weather is going to be next week, ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธbut the Finger Lakes will be a nice change of pace. If it’s wet and stormy some days I’ll just hang out in camp. ๐Ÿ•๏ธ I have a bunch of library books to read ๐Ÿ“– and I really want some nice quiet days away from it all and the Finger Lakes will be a good change from the Adirondacks. Maybe I can’t block off all work activities on vacation ๐Ÿ”‡ – I am a supervisor now – but I’m hoping for a few days unlike earlier in the summer when I spent most of my days working from camp. ๐Ÿ’ป

Oil change is done, so much easier to just pony up the bucks ๐Ÿ›ข but the local shop was a lot more expensive than going to the dealer but when you consider the cost of gas it might make sense going forward at least while I’m working remotely. ๐Ÿ”ง Next oil change who knows. Of course if I decide to go carless next year maybe they’re won’t be visits to the repair shop or all the other expenses of motoring. ๐Ÿ

It was unusual riding the bus ๐Ÿš after so much time motoring and working from home. It’s just unusual with back door boarding and no bus fares. ๐ŸŽŸ You don’t really get to see the driver. It seems so impersonal. I was the only person on the bus but I wasn’t riding at a peak time. At some point things will return back to normal but I don’t see it happening anytime soon. ๐ŸšŒ I’ve been told remote work will continue through the end of the year.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 83 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 26th. Maximum dew point of 66 at 8am. Southwest wind around 8 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1955.

Sounds like tomorrow is going to be quite muggy again. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ I do want to get to the library and work down there for a while tomorrow. ๐Ÿ“ง While I don’t expect many very data intensive work tasks there I do want to get some new photos and content on the blog tomorrow. Later on in the evening I’m going to John Wolcott house ๐Ÿก and maybe pick up some supplies at the store ๐Ÿฌ.

I am excited about my new phone and the new picture uploader I wrote. ๐Ÿ–ผ I’ll finally be able to upload high resolution photos as I travel right from my phone wherever I have reception and tell my story better. ๐Ÿ“ธ Instagram is fine but the pictures are kind of low resolution and crappy.

In four weeks on September 1 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (282ยฐ) at 7:29 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 42 minutes and 24 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 75 and 51 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 77 and 57 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1953. Can you believe four weeks until September?

Looking ahead, 4 weeks until September and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 13 weeks.

Mouse and Baldhead Mountains

August 3, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 77 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜๏ธ Calm wind. The dew point is 59 degrees. The skies will clear Wednesday around 1 am. Nice break from the humidity but it’s clouded up and tomorrow is going to be wet, especially in the evening. The air has the musty smell of grain and barnyard tonight. ๐Ÿฎ

Busy day at work. ๐Ÿ–ฅ I’ve been less efficient lately with the heat and getting distracted with other things that I clocked out and worked late so I could get caught up on things. I still haven’t asked about next week, I doubt ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ I’ll get all week off but if I don’t ask it’s not a possibility. Just too timid. ๐ŸTruth be told I can remote work some of the days in the Finger Lakes but I want some time to myself besides the weekend.

So I got my new phone up and running. ๐Ÿ“ฑ It’s a big upgrade from my old phone but it’s a bit larger when it’s in the protective case than I would like – even with my big hands. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ I mean I like the higher resolution screen for writing blog posts but it’s a bit big for one hand use especially when you are typing on it. โŒจ๏ธ I do however like all the additional emojis it has. ๐Ÿ˜ Adds a lot of options for blog posts. ๐Ÿ“

Tonight will have showers likely, mainly after 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 68 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 4am. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 62 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1966.

Tonight will have a Full ๐ŸŒ Moon with 99% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the east-southeast (119ยฐ) at an altitude of 3ยฐ from the horizon, some 243,891 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by February 4th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Strugeon ๐Ÿก Moon is on Tuesday, August 18. The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 5:19 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:51 am in the east-northeast (65ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 11 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 3 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:30 am with sun in the east-northeast (72ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 38 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 16 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have tropical storm conditions possible. ๐ŸŒ€ Showers before 3pm, then rain and possibly a thunderstorm after 3pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. โ›ˆ๏ธ High of 74 degrees at 2pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 11th. Maximum dew point of 69 at 12pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible. ๐Ÿ’ฆ A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1955.

Tomorrow I have to get up bright and early to drop my truck off for a oil change. ๐Ÿ”งCan’t imagine it will take long as usually even when I do it’s fairly quick with me struggling to get off the filter. ๐Ÿ›ข I think I’m sticking with smaller projects now, oil changes are fine to do yourself but it’s a pain living in the suburb. I should get to bed ๐Ÿ› soon as I need to get up early for that tomorrow. ๐Ÿ˜ด

In four weeks on August 31 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (282ยฐ) at 7:31 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 41 minutes and 56 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 76 and 54 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 78 and 57 degrees. The record high of 93 degrees was set back in 1953.

I do feel guilty about buying a new phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ but the old one really wasn’t charging properly and was about to bite the dust. ๐Ÿคณ I guess things don’t last forever and these inexpensive things phone are pretty disposable. ๐Ÿ—‘ That said it was a better phone than many of the Tracphones I’ve owned over the years. $65 really isn’t that much when I spend often that much to gas up my truck โ›ฝ especially before the Coronavirus crisis.

Looking ahead, Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 3 months.

August 3, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Partly sunny and 72 degrees at the Swift Wetland Preserve. There is a west-southwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 65 degrees. The muggy weather ends Wednesday around 7 pm. ๐Ÿ˜“

It certainly is a real muggy day. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ Last night was much worse, especially before dinner time. I ended up going to Tractor Supply and getting my propane tank filled, along with washing Big Red and getting groceries and two flash drives ๐Ÿ’พ to replace the one that I lost that had all my music ๐ŸŽถ on for listening in the truck and was using to move files ๐Ÿ“‚ between my personal and work laptop.

I thought yesterday was going to be a lot cooler and rainy โ˜” then it turned out to be. After packing up hammock camp on Irish Hill I fished at White Birch Pond. ๐ŸŽฃ It was cloudy to start out the morning but it cleared and got hot and sunny. Caught two rock bass, one was big enough it would have filled a large frying ๐Ÿณ pan but I tossed it back in because they’re all bones. I saw a red tailed hawk overhead a couple of times then I looked up and noticed one of the hawks had a white head and some white tail feathers and realized it was a Bald Eagle. Neat!

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 86 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 8am. West wind 7 to 9 mph. Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 64.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-6.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 62 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1966.

I got my new cellphone in the mail โœ‰ yesterday. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I was surprised it came on a Saturday. I have yet to activate it but my old phone is barely holding a charge and once I get the case today I’ll switch over to it. ๐Ÿ”‹ The new phone is charging now and once I get the case today I’ll move the SIM card ๐Ÿ’ณ and SD card over to the new phone and download apps that I normally use at the library ๐Ÿ“š this afternoon.

Going to be a nice, hot summer weekend. ๐ŸŠ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Maximum dew point of 63 at 9am. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 87. Maximum dew point of 65 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 82 degrees.

I am going to request next week off for vacation. โ›บ Not totally sure if I will get it but maybe I can work remotely part of the week if necessary. I think I’m going to my old standby of the Finger Lakes National Forest. Not going to spend a lot of time at the state parks but maybe a day or two I’ll go to the pool and swim but I’m sure parking ๐Ÿ…ฟ will be severely limited so I’ll have to get up early to swim ๐ŸŠ. My oil change is tomorrow and after that I should be good to go.

There are 3 months until Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:45 pm with dusk at 5:14 pm (Standard Time).

Pines Along Cedar River Flow

August 2, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Rain showers and mostly cloudy with a few breaks of sun and 65 degrees, in a hammock at Cole Hill State Forest in Berne, NY. โ˜” There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 64 degrees. The skies will clear around 3 pm.

So last night I went to Grace’s summer party at her mountain farm. ๐Ÿ‘ Beautiful land and old hippie type of farm house ๐Ÿก surrounded by wildflower gardens up a steep mountain. She’s still working in Albany, going to be a heck of a commute for her come winter.

Afterwards I decided to spend the night up at Cole Hill State Forest. โ›บ Just a simple set up with a hammock strung between some trees and flashlight ๐Ÿ”ฆ. I didn’t bother with a fire, I just laid back listening some podcasts under the moonlit skies. I didn’t even pack anything for breakfast, I’ll eat when I get home.

It wasn’t a bad evening ๐Ÿ’ฆalthough there was a a few rain showers during the middle of the night and I ended up splashing DEET on due to the mosquitoes. ๐Ÿœ

Today will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 10am. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฉ, with a high of 82 degrees at 4pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 71 at 2pm. South wind 6 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1975.

I have the kayak and fishing pole on me ๐ŸŽฃ and I’m thinking of heading over to White Birch Pond to do some fishing later. I guess it depends on how hungry I am or if how much rain we get early ๐Ÿ’ง, I don’t really have any additional food on me. As morning has broke the day has gotten nicer but there is still a lot of storms popping up on the radar. โšฝ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:04 pm with sun having an altitude of 64.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-5.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). Today will have 14 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 14 seconds over yesterday.

I tell you, every time I am out in the country ๐Ÿฎ I am super jealous about those who make a living and a place to live in the mountains. ๐Ÿ—ป Some day I tell myself, I just need to work hard and save more money.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10pm. Some of the storms could be severe. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒฉ, with a low of 66 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal. August 1, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy August! Final full month of summer. Sunny and 70 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 61 degrees.

My phone is working this morning ๐Ÿ“ฑ but it’s really on its last legs. It has been so infuriating this whole week how the battery ๐Ÿ”‹ just gets discharged and won’t recharge. But my new phone is arriving on Monday so hopefully this won’t be a big issue going forward.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 86 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 63 at 11am. North wind around 6 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 101 was set in 1933.

It looks like it will be a pretty nice day. ๐ŸŽฃ I’m going to do some fishing and hiking this afternoon I think then go over to that socially distant summer gathering in Berne. Should be a pretty good day. Tomorrow will be wet but I plan to finish unpacking my camping gear and do some reading ๐Ÿ“–.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-5.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 79 degrees. The dew point will be 63 degrees. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 11 seconds over yesterday.

I do like wearing my knock off crocks. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ Much cooler than the boots in the summer but they don’t offer a lot of protection for my toes and my feet do get quite dirty wearing them.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 68 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 1am. South wind 3 to 7 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1976.

I still haven’t decided if I’ll take a week from Monday off from work for vacation. ๐ŸŠ I’m going to look at the forecast and ask on Monday, and even if I have to work part of the week I’ll work remotely from the Finger Lakes. โ›บ I’ve decided I think I want to do the Finger Lakes again and maybe part of the week in the Allegheny National Forest. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ

Should be a nice day. ๐Ÿ˜Ž I am thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ I’ll run to the store in the morning ๐Ÿฌ and then I will go out to Patridge Run or maybe Cole Hill then over to the friends farm for their socially distant summer celebration ๐ŸŽ‰. She works in public health and COVID-19 so I’m sure we will be super safe. ๐Ÿ˜ท Coronavirus can’t end summer.

July 31, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Where did July go? Tomorrow is August already – I know, wow. Partly sunny and 62 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 58 degrees.

I went for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ and it was quite pleasant. I’m going to head down to the library shortly and work down there, the internet is so much faster and reliable there ๐Ÿ’ป plus my phone is a dying so I can’t use that for internet or email right now. ๐Ÿ’€

Scheduled my oil change for Tuesday. ๐Ÿ”ง I used do it myself but by the time I ran to two or three stores to buy oil and the in filter, struggled to get the filter off, it just isn’t worth my time. Plus then you have the used oil to return – if u lived out in the country I’d use it to burn brush ๐Ÿ”ฅ but in the city I have to take it bdck to the store for recycling. โ™ป Oil kind of stinks when you burn it too and the synthetic stuff I swear is harder to burn.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 83 degrees at 2pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 26th. Average highs are already cooling down a fair bit. Today is work ๐Ÿ’ผ and then heading out to the folks house for a picnic dinner. ๐Ÿฒ I haven’t seen them in weeks because I’ve been been traveling. Should be a pretty nice day, still muggy but that’s not expected for late July.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-5.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was very sticky. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 101 was set in 1933.

Tomorrow I’m going to a socially distant small gathering ๐Ÿ at a friend’s farm after hiking and fishing ๐ŸŽฃ at Partridge Run. Maybe a tad bit muggy tomorrow but should be a nice day.

Looking ahead to Sunday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. โ˜” Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. South wind 5 to 13 mph.
