Good evening! Partly cloudy and 71 degrees in my backyard. ๐ŸŒƒ There is a west-southwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 65 degrees. The muggy weather ends around 2 am. ๐Ÿ˜“

I guess it’s still a tad bit muggy outside ๐Ÿƒ but the breeze helps a bit. Tomorrow is expected to be cooler and less muggy. As we head into August on Saturday the average temperature is expected to drop but they’ll still be many more warm days remaining. Back from my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ, listening to the crickets ๐Ÿ‘‚ and soon its off to bed. ๐Ÿฎ Definitely smelled like barnyard when I went for my walk.

Another fairly busy and at times frustrating day. ๐Ÿ˜ฃI ordered a new phone, I deleted a really obnoxious email, fixed blog problems, talked to clients and submitted another big report for work. ๐Ÿ“ Still haven’t found the flash drive ๐Ÿ’พ that has a bunch of work files ๐Ÿ“‚ and all my driving music ๐ŸŽถ on it. I shouldn’t complain the money’s ๐Ÿ’ต good and I’m able to save a lot for retirement and my off-grid property in an era when so many people are unemployed.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 60 degrees at 5am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 14th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 9pm. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had thunderstorm in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was sticky. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 49 occurred back in 1978.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 86% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the south-southeast (166ยฐ) at an altitude of 23ยฐ from the horizon, some 232,496 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by January 23rd. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Strugeon ๐Ÿก Moon is on Monday, August 3. The darkest hour is at 1:03 am, followed by dawn at 5:14 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:46 am in the east-northeast (64ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 13 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and one second later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:27 am with sun in the east-northeast (71ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 29 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 8 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 83 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 26th. Maximum dew point of 63 at 10am. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was sticky. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1917.

I got a bunch of new books ๐Ÿ“š out of the library on homesteading, sustainable farming and off grid living. ๐Ÿšœ I started to flip through them, I’ll probably spend more time reading when I’m up in the woods. ๐Ÿ“– I thought about going to the park to read but it looked like rain โ˜” and I had a conference call at seven o’clock to go to.

Today I got really frustrated ๐Ÿ˜ค with some issues I’m having with the blog but after much fuming over my stupidity I was able to get them fixed. I’m not going to let myself get bullied too much by the email ๐Ÿ“ง and complaints when things aren’t always perfect ๐Ÿ‘Œ. I try to express my thoughts but sometimes I have my critics – who usually start off emails saying, in the like your blog but…

I have a pretty good life, besides the minor annoyances of the truck, my rundown apartment and the headaches of the blog. ๐Ÿ‘ฅ I do spend too much time on social media and that’s an endless source of frustration. And my broken phone. ๐Ÿ“ต More on that later. I try to use Facebook less and I’ve quit Twitter but it’s always so tempting to open. ๐Ÿ’ฅBut I really need to stay off it – I avoid most politics as much as I can. I just feel like I disagree ๐Ÿ‘Ž with so much on how our country is going on both the state and federal levels. But the pay is good.

Now that the pandemic is starting to wind down a bit locally ๐Ÿ™Š I really should take the step and seek out some counseling. My new job has much more of a supervisory role and responsibilities so it’s important I remain level headed at all times and can think ๐Ÿ’ญ clearly about the advice I’m giving. ๐Ÿ’ผ I’m finally having a level of professional success and the ability to really save for the what I hope is a better tomorrow.

I got busy and forgot about calling about the oil change. ๐Ÿ”ง I’ll call tomorrow about scheduling an appointment next week. Shouldn’t be a big deal. I’d do my own but it’s a pain in the ass to get the filter off.

In four weeks on August 27 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (284ยฐ) at 7:37 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 39 minutes and 54 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 75 and 53 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 79 and 58 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1948.

My phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ has been having a lot of problems charging lately, and it’s been dead a lot of day this week ๐Ÿ“ž when I need it for work. I broke down and bought another phone and case. Maybe that’s another source of frustration. I’ve been quite happy with this LG phone until the end when the USB charging port died, ๐Ÿ”Œ so I ordered another one, alas a newer model with more memory and a better screen. Not the fanciest one, and a generation behind the Moto phone I looked at but I’ll take a slower phone for a more reliable one. ๐Ÿข Working remotely ๐Ÿ“ถ a good phone is my lifeline. Plus remember, I don’t have internet home so I depend on my phone as my primary source of internet.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Sunny, muggy and 69 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜€ There is a south-southwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 65 degrees. The muggy weather ends tomorrow around 4 am. ๐Ÿ˜“

I thought ๐Ÿ’ญ about a morning walk ๐Ÿšถ but it didn’t happen. I like listening to music ๐ŸŽถ while I walk but with my phone on my last legs ๐Ÿ“ฑ that wasn’t going to happen. Plus on muggy days like today, wearing a mask ๐Ÿ˜ท is no fun while walking.

Another hot day is on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ But it’s expected to get better for Friday when that cold front pushed through. I plan to start my day working from home and then I’ll probably go to the library and work from there. ๐Ÿ“š I have some more books that I’ve ordered to pick up. ๐Ÿ“– Trying to do more summer reading. Maybe if it doesn’t thunder โšก this evening I’ll spend some time reading down at the park โ›ฒ.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 4pm and 5pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 84 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 9am. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 75 degrees. The dew point will be 63 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 31 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 7 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 61 degrees at 6am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 2nd. Maximum dew point of 64 at 6pm. Northwest wind 3 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had thunderstorm in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was sticky. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 49 occurred back in 1978.

I need to schedule an oil change today for next week, ๐Ÿ”ง and seriously look at getting a new phone. ๐Ÿ“ฑ My phone isn’t charging well any more and its often slow due to a lack of memory. ๐Ÿ’พ I hate to throw away something that is still working but I’m afraid my phone is going to die some day and I’d be left stranded. I’d rather have something that works well as with remote work ๐Ÿ“ถ I’m very dependent on my phone. ๐Ÿ“ž

Saturday looks nice but hot, Sunday rainy. โ˜€ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 86. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon. Maximum dew point of 64 at 10am. Sunday, a chance of showers after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. โ˜ Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 68 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 82 degrees.

Good evening! Rain showers and 73 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 67 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 3 am.

I went to the Save the Pine Bush ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒprotest at the Guilderland Town Hall to protest the acceptance of the FEIS on building a large apartment complex and Costco in the Pine Bush. But it’s not over until it’s over but we as citizens can do our best to oppose it. Save the Pine Bush was never a popular organization but it has done amazing things to preserve the Pine Bush by being unpopular and getting the law enforced. ๐Ÿค

While not the nicest night ever, kind of damp ๐Ÿ’ง and cloudy, I did go for a pleasant walk in the Pine Bush. ๐ŸšถI like walking in the Pine Bush after dark and tonight sure was a dark night. With the clouds โ˜ I really needed a flashlight ๐Ÿ”ฆ which of course I left in the truck.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 2am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 66 degrees at 4am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 10pm. South wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2019, we had thunderstorm in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was very sticky. It got down to 71 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1968.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 78% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the south-southwest (195ยฐ) at an altitude of 26ยฐ from the horizon, some 230,255 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by January 20th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Strugeon ๐Ÿก Moon is on Monday, August 3. The darkest hour is at 1:03 am, followed by dawn at 5:13 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:45 am in the east-northeast (64ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 14 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and one second later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:26 am with sun in the east-northeast (70ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 27 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 6 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 84 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 9am. West wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was humid. The high last year was 91 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1933.

It was an good ๐Ÿ‘‹ day at work, I’m excited about the new opportunities to come. ๐Ÿ‘”Making some good professional success towards a better tomorrow. Some day I’ll own that off grid property I want ๐Ÿก and move out of my moldy apartment in the suburbs. Just takes time and commitment and my best effort to put my very best foot forward ๐Ÿ‘ฃ every day. Money saved today is more tomorrow. ๐Ÿ’ฐ Every time I heard about my friends and colleagues moving out to the country ๐Ÿ, I get so jealous but I look forward to the days to come, hopefully not that far in the future ๐Ÿ”ฎ.

In four weeks on August 26 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (284ยฐ) at 7:39 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 39 minutes and 22 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had sunny and temperatures between 78 and 52 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 79 and 59 degrees. The record high of 98 degrees was set back in 1948.

Looking ahead, I’m hopeful for the days to come. ๐ŸŒŽ But first hopefully my phone won’t die in the meantime. It’s really on its last legs, although that’s been the case for two or three months now. ๐Ÿ“ด

July 28, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 70 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 54 degrees. Should be a great evening for sleeping. I have the fan going now in low but I will kill it shortly. ๐Ÿ‘

Dentist visit went well today. โ˜บ I’m going to try harder to brush and floss my teeth now. Work was busy but productive. ๐Ÿ’ป I went over to John Wolcott house ๐Ÿก to look at more of his files ๐Ÿ“‚. I am also studying a series of files that I got from them about the history of Save the Pine Bush. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒI went for an evening walk ๐Ÿšถ and sat out back for a while, sipping on some apple juice ๐Ÿ. Honestly, I prefer cold apple juice to beer, I like the sugar a lot bed I don’t usually have sweets ๐Ÿฌ at home.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 62 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 57 at 5am. Light and variable wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It was very sticky. It got down to 67 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1987.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 68% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the south-southwest (209ยฐ) at an altitude of 25ยฐ from the horizon, some 228,376 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by January 18th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Strugeon ๐Ÿก Moon is on Monday, August 3. The darkest hour is at 1:03 am, followed by dawn at 5:12 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:44 am in the east-northeast (63ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 14 seconds. Sunrise is one minute later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:25 am with sun in the east-northeast (70ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 25 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 4 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 88 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 63 at 9am. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 92 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1894.

Surprisingly less hot tomorrow. โ˜€ Been kind of a sultry summer. I have more books ๐Ÿ“š on reserve that I want to pick up at the library plus a Save the Pine Bush event to go to. I also need to schedule an oil change. โ›ฝ I think I’m just going to pay the local shop to do it, ๐Ÿ”ง as it’s such a pain to get the filter off it.

I haven’t taken off time for a summer vacation yet. ๐ŸŠ I might only take off part of a week, work is busy these days. I could plan certain days for remote work if necessary. I’m leaning towards the old standy of the Finger Lakes National Forest but less visiting state parks this year and being around people as I don’t want to wear a mask too much on vacation. ๐Ÿ˜ท I like the Finger Lakes for a change.

I am continuing to chew over getting a new phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ. The power connector doesn’t work well on my phone and I’m afraid one day it will quit for good. I don’t plan to spend more than $100 but I want something that has an SD card slot and enough memory so it’s not sluggish at times. ๐Ÿ’พ On the other hand I hate to throw away something that still works.

In four weeks on August 25 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (285ยฐ) at 7:41 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 38 minutes and 48 seconds earlier then tonight. Looking ahead, Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 14 weeks.

Adirondacks

July 28, 2020 10 AM Update

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Clouds, occasional rain showers and 72 degrees at the Bethlehem Public Library. โ˜” There is a west breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 66 degrees. Still kind of muggy. The skies will clear around 11 am.

This morning started out with the most pleasant of rains, ๐ŸŒฆย  a good soaker but not so hard that it was likely to cause flooding. It’s been a hot few days and we need the rain. I heard the woods was burning up again in the Altona Flatlands up in the North Country, and certainly stream levels are quite low — as seen by the picture of the Potholers that I posted the other day.๐Ÿž๏ธ

Today will have a slight chance of showers before noon, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between noon and 2pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 81 degrees at 2pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 10th. Maximum dew point of 66 at 10am. West wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 90 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1929.

I started out my morning get my teeth cleaned. ๐Ÿฆทย I have to admit I haven’t been brushing as much as I should regularly, but I didn’t get balled out too much by the dental hygentist. I should do better but I ran out of toothpaste while camping, ๐Ÿค“ and forgot to pick some of what would have probably been $10 tube of toothpaste at Charlie Johns. I almost missed this appointment, had my dental hygentist not called me on Friday afternoon. So now you know the real reason for me coming back home.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:03 pm with sun having an altitude of 66.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-4.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:40 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (290ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (297ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:21 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 15 seconds with dusk around 8:52 pm, which is one minute and 3 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south-southwest (193ยฐ) at an altitude of 30ยฐ from the horizon, 228,302 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:34 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 70 degrees. The dew point will be 56 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 3 seconds over yesterday.

I got my teeth cleaned. ๐Ÿฆท๐Ÿฆท๐Ÿฆท๐Ÿฆท๐Ÿค“ It was relatively painless, and I didn’t get called out that badly for being as bad at flossing and brushing as I have been this past summer. I’ve been a bad boy, but when you work remotely, nobody knows if you have dirty teeth or don’t use deodorant — and unless you have a zoom meeting they don’t know if you don’t shave, wash, or comb your hair.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 57 degrees at 3am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 31st. Maximum dew point of 57 at 6pm. West wind 5 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It was very sticky. It got down to 67 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1987.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 78. Maximum dew point of 60 at 8am. Sunday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 61 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 82 degrees.

This weekend I’ll probably stay in town. ๐Ÿฆ‰ย I have some things that I need to do in town, and I might take the following week off for work, for some kind of real summer vacation. No idea where I will go, although I’m leaning towards the Finger Lakes. Yeah, I’m hardly excited about visiting state parks with all the social distancing, but it would be nice to set up camp for the week, and just be able to hang out at the National Forest all week, doing some hiking, fishing, and paddling on some of the lakes.๐Ÿšค๐Ÿšถโ›บ I was thinking originally about going to the Western Adirondacks and Saint Lawrence County, but I’m getting tired of the Adirondacks after my “workacation” up there to beat the heat for so much of the summer.

Looking ahead, there are 14 weeks until Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:45 pm with dusk at 5:14 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny skies, rain showers and temperatures between 53 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 53 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1990.
