April 6, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Back to work from home. It in my case the library and Five Rivers. I expect to be a lot busier this week. ๐Ÿ’ผ Three weeks to Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ. Mostly sunny and 50 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. You might say it’s a pretty pleasant day and it’s going to be quite nice later on. I am going to try to work outside as much as possible — either in my backyard or later on at Five Rivers. After work I’ll go for a nice walk. Hopefully the ground won’t be too wet as my boots are kind of leaky and the new ones have yet to ship.๐Ÿ‘ข

This morning I plan to go to the grocery store ๐Ÿ› and fill up my pantry. Just Hannaford today. Plus go to the laundromat. I can probably start my day using the laptop ๐Ÿ’ป and later on go home and work from home until lunchtime and then go out to Five Rivers to work in the afternoon shift, where I will have unlimited library internet and I won’t have to pay for electricity, as the solar well will be doing all of the work.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 62 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 23rd. Northwest wind 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1921. 17.3 inches of snow fell back in 1982.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 54.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-16.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:50 pm with the sun in the west (274ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (280ยฐ) starting at 7:25 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 7:56 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Worm Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east-southeast (106ยฐ) at an altitude of 21ยฐ from the horizon, 226,328 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:31 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 55 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 11 mph. Should be a great moon lit night, not too cold. Kind of wish I had a case of beer to drink out back. ๐Ÿป Like some nice cold Carona with lime. Maybe for the weekend? Today will have 12 hours and 59 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 36 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 11th. West wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light after midnight. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of 13 occurred back in 1982.

I activated the new blog theme for now, but I might have to pull it down if I find further bugs. The mobile version needs some work, but I will work with what I have for now, โœ and make improvements on an ongoing basis. We will see. So far I’m happy with the new version but it’s quick enough switch back. I really like the full screen photos but I know the style sheet needs to be reworked for mobile ๐Ÿ“ฑ devices.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 50. Easter, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 55. Chance of precipitation is 30%. ๐Ÿฐ Typical average high for the weekend is 56 degrees.

The long weekend sounds nice but cool for April ๐Ÿƒ but it doesn’t seem like much snow is left – and cold for April is a relative thing – it means the weather will feel more like early November weather then early spring. โ›บ If I were to camp, definitely would bring the heater but probably not pitch the tent for hot tenting. Long sleeve weather and the vest as nights would probably drop down into the twenties. Most of April looks that way – it seems like in recent years that April has been quite cool following mild winters. โ›„ We could still get another snow storm but at this point I think it’s unlikely. Of course, staying home ๐Ÿก would save money ๐Ÿ’ต and make the internet trolls happy. ๐Ÿ‘ผ I’ve blocked most of them on Facebook.

That meme I shared on Facebook and the blog about wearing preg testing gloves to pump gas โ›ฝ really kind of cracked me up. ๐Ÿฎ I bet for plastic gloves they aren’t that cheap. But I guess it’s more sanitary for the cow if your going to ram your hand up their anus to feel if they have a baby ๐Ÿ‘ถ to wear a glove. I’m sure the real old time cowboys never did.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ when the sun will be setting at 7:51 pm with dusk at 8:21 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 50 and 40 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962. Late April doesn’t seem that far away but to think May is just around the corner is a bit more shocking in my book ๐Ÿ“™.

Farm Along Ostelic River

April 3, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is Good Friday โœ๏ธ. Pouring and 41 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north-northwest breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

Today will rain likely, mainly before 10am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 50 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 29th. North wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 62 degrees. The record high of 79 was set in 1981. 11 inches of snow fell back in 1891.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:59 pm with sun having an altitude of 52.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-17.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. Shadows are getting short because the sun is increasingly high in the sky, although not much sun today. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:47 pm with the sun in the west (272ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (278ยฐ) starting at 7:21 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 7:52 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (129ยฐ) at an altitude of 57ยฐ from the horizon, 229,894 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:27 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 48 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 51 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain before 9pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 41 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 25th. North wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of 14 occurred back in 1954.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 56 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 10th. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the morning. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 79 was set in 1950. 4.3 inches of snow fell back in 2016.โ„

I am starting to think tomorrow is going to be a really nice day. โ˜€ Maybe tomorrow I should plan to get out and get some fresh air. I am thinking about maybe a long stroll around the back part of Partridge Run mostly on the dirt roads as the trails are likely to be quite wet. ๐Ÿšถ

Looking ahead to Sunday, a slight chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. Light southwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Typical average high for the weekend is 53 degrees.

Sunday I’ll do the wash ๐Ÿ‘šand then restock the missing items in my pantry and if it’s decent maybe find some less popular places to explore in the woods not far from home and then also start to get my gear together.

As previously noted, next Friday is Good Friday โœ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 7:32 pm with dusk at 8:01 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 50 and 32 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 56 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1922.

North Through Schoharie Valley

April 2, 2020 Night

Good evening! Rain and drizzle and 46 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north-northwest breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear Saturday around 3 pm.

With the rain I decided it wasn’t a good night for my walk ๐Ÿšถ. Not only is it cold and wet its kind of dangerous crossing the road on such a poor visibility night, although traffic is a lot less. I did ride the exercise bike ๐Ÿšฒ for a while today watching one of the YouTube videos I downloaded yesterday.

Other than that I really quiet day at work. ๐Ÿ’ผ I wish I was busier at times, it’s really boring ๐Ÿ’ค and kind of isolating to be home alone with no internet besides my phone and just day after day of rain โ˜”. I guess I could have gone for a walk earlier but it was pretty cloudy and gray.

Been actively working on a new theme for the blog ๐Ÿ“ that will give it a new look and feel. While I just rewrote a big portion of the code a few months back I’m still not happy with what I got – I want a more immersive design that better tells my story. Plus be more efficient and better able to fit the growing types of content I’ve been generating lately.

Tonight will have a chance of rain. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 40 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 22nd. Northwest wind 11 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 16 occurred back in 1954.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 70% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the southwest (221ยฐ) at an altitude of 64ยฐ from the horizon, some 231,951 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by September 25th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Pink ๐ŸŒธ Moon is on Tuesday, April 7. The darkest hour is at 12:59 am, followed by dawn at 6:07 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:36 am in the east (82ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 56 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:13 am with sun in the east (89ยฐ). Tonight will have 11 hours and 9 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain before noon, then scattered showers after noon. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 51 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 31st. North wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 62 degrees. The record high of 79 was set in 1981. 11 inches of snow fell back in 1891.โ„

At least the weekend forecast looks better, especially Sunday. โ˜€ Probably go back out to Patridge Run and hike for most of the day Sunday. Then I’m still thinking about heading up to the Adirondacks on next Thursday through Easter. ๐Ÿฐ I just need to get away. Unless of course it looks like it will snow or rain all next weekend. I’ll see. I’m just so tired of being home and visiting the same old parks all the time.

In four weeks on April 30 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (291ยฐ) at 7:54 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 50 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had drizzle and showers, mostly cloudy and temperatures between 51 and 38 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 64 and 42 degrees. The record high of 86 degrees was set back in 1903.

Looking ahead, Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 5 weeks.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ…Only 7 weeks remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

There's the Firetower

March 25, 2020 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Climbing the Hump, coasting to the weekend. Not going to be a real nice weekend though. Next Wednesday is April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก. You know, I don’t actually miss the late nights at work that much working on the state budget. I’m quite fine working 9-5, even if I’d does mean I’m working out my truck during Coronavirus. ๐Ÿš Strangely enough, I actually miss the routine of taking the bus to work and the quiet time it gives me to work on my blog ๐Ÿ“ and think while I ride to work.

Mostly cloudy and 29 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. There is maybe an inch of wet globby snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Most of the snow from yesterday is gone at least in the city. But I’m sure the ground is really sloppy at this point. At least the fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ danger is low for the next few days although the long range is calling for below average precipitation for early spring before things green up. Campfires are exempt from the Pete Grannis burn ban, as long as they’re under 3 foot by 4 foot (no bonfires until after May 15th) but commonsense matters. It’s really easy to start a grass fire this time of year and have to be stomping it out.

Today will have isolated sprinkles after noon. Mostly cloudy โ›… , with a high of 45 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 18th. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. We aren’t getting the rain their getting down in Pennsylvania as the front is stalled south of us but I’m not hopeful of much sun. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 1910. 1.9 inches of snow fell back in 1960.โ„

So I have that Zoom Meeting online conference training session ๐Ÿ’ป at one o’clock today so I’ll probably go to Five Rivers for that. It should be relatively quiet there and afterwards I’ll go for a walk on one of the drier trails. ๐Ÿšถ Not expecting much snow to be left come the afternoon. I wish we would have more sun, it would be more pleasant and provide more solar power but I can’t control the weather. I am glad Zoom Meeting has Linux software as much as I don’t like installing closed source binary programs. โ‡

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 49.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-21.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:37 pm with the sun in the west (267ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (274ยฐ) starting at 7:11 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:42 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (268ยฐ) at an altitude of 9ยฐ from the horizon, 251,596 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:16 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 41 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 27 degrees at 6am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 21st. Calm wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1960.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 54. Sunday, rain likely before 8am, then showers, mainly after 8am. High near 49. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Typical average high for the weekend is 50 degrees.

It doesn’t look like a real nice weekend but at least it will be fairly mild โ˜ and maybe the forecast is improving. I don’t have any plans for the weekend at this time, possibly the following weekend I’ll take a week or part of a week off for camping โ›บ and trout fishing ๐ŸŽฃbut that’s to be determined. Except for pumping gas โ›ฝ I doubt I’ll have much in social interaction, I can always wear some of those nitrile gloves while pumping gas I have for butchering ๐Ÿ”ช game. Honestly I’m not that worried ๐Ÿ˜ฏ, they’re is only so much one can do to prevent getting Coronavirus.

As previously noted, next Wednesday is April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก when the sun will be setting at 7:21 pm with dusk at 7:50 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 42 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 52 degrees. We hit a record high of 77 back in 1986.

Clouds

March 12, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clouding up and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. You could actually see the stars โœจ for a while when I went for my evening walk after going to the library. ๐Ÿšถ Temperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around noontime. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I went down to the library to do some research for Save the Pine Bush. ๐Ÿ“š Quiet at the library because they’ve canceled all community events. Smelled a bit like ammonia from all the cleaning fluid as everything does this day. ๐Ÿ˜ท Every time you hear a cough you have to cringe a bit. But I think it’s kind of silly. Just got to live your life and if you die, so be it.

I also uploaded that graphic comparison of the routing of the Mid Crosstown Arterial that I find quite fascinating. ๐Ÿšง I don’t know about you but I’m very fascinated by dragging the slider back and forth and seeing the comparison. As I explained earlier it’s not difficult to do, once you get things geo referenced. The GIS software does all the hard work. I also have some Google Maps to show but I can’t seem to get my new and improved uploader to work properly with them. I got to play with that broken code more.

Tonight will rain, mainly after 2am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 42 degrees at 3am. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 28th. Southeast wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1885.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 84% illuminated. The moon will rise at 10:42 pm. The Worm ๐Ÿ› Moon is on Friday, March 27. The darkest hour is at 1:06 am, followed by dawn at 6:45 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:13 am in the east (94ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 55 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:50 am with sun in the east (100ยฐ). Tonight will have 12 hours and 10 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain before 7am, then showers, mainly between 7am and 1pm. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 59 degrees at 2pm. 17 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 18th. Maximum dew point of 45 at 11am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Breezy, with a southeast wind 13 to 23 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 2012. 22 inches of snow fell back in 1993.โ„

I think I’ll open up my windows tomorrow. ๐Ÿ”ณ That’s a good thing because I left a gallon of milk ๐Ÿฎ on the counter top when I went to work and I can still smell the racid milk despite dumping it out. I was very sad ๐Ÿ˜” the milk went bad, it’s the first time I’ve done that in years – I didn’t catch it in the morning when I confirmed the stove was off.

In four weeks on April 9 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (281ยฐ) at 7:30 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 32 minutes and 13 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny, thunderstorm and temperatures between 65 and 41 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 55 and 35 degrees. The record high of 77 degrees was set back in 1991.

With all this talk about Coronavirus, I’m thinking about a weekend trip to Schoharie County or maybe Madison County with a case of Corona beer ๐Ÿป to enjoy next to a campfire ๐Ÿ”ฅ for one night of self imposed quarantine. Exposure to natural bacteria and fresh air can be quite healthy. โ›บ Snow is gone outside of the Adirondacks although things might be muddy with the warm weather and rain expected tomorrow. Might be cold with the wind, ๐Ÿƒ and while I’m not that concerned because everything is wet I don’t want a shit ton of sparks โœจ going everywhere because it’s cold and windy. Pine Bush literature drop I had planned for the weekend has been canceled due to older members concerns about going door to door ๐Ÿšช in a community that’s already has a known spread of Coronavirus.

I am thinking of getting a box of plastic bags ๐Ÿ›„ like the grocery stores ๐Ÿฌ used to have before the plastic bag ban. You can get 1,000 plastic shopping bags for under $20 โ€” they really are dirt cheap and it would be great to carry in case you run low on bags in the store or while camping if I don’t want my reusable bags to get dirty. And then they’re great for camp trash – gone in seconds. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Goes good with the foam plates I used to use a lot while camping. Fire is more fun and easier than washing. I’ll get the plastic bags by summer. I still have plenty used plastic bags from before the ban.

Looking ahead, Easter ๐Ÿฐ is a month away and Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 8 weeks.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ…Only 10 weeks remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

North Bellinger

March 3, 2020 Night

Good evening! Absolutely pouring rain, wind and 48 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜”It reminds me of a thunderstorm like you would have mid summer than a March rain storm. There is a south-southwest breeze at 11 mph. 🍃 with gusts up to 24 mph 💨💨💨. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 2 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

About an hour ago I thought about going out for a walk 🚶 as the rain had stopped but I ultimately decided against it probably for good reason as I probably would have gotten soaked. I didn’t ride the exercise bike 🚲 as my neighbor was home as he works night shift Thursday through Saturday.

Work continues on the blog code update 📝 but every time I fix something I find more rot in the code. Often I find that years ago I wrote things in a way that isn’t future 🔮 proof and I ended up extending old broken code that just becomes more and more spaghetti with more if then statements.

Tonight will have showers, mainly before midnight. 🌧 Low of 39 degrees at 5am. 17 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 19th. Breezy, with a southwest wind 11 to 21 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 17 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1950.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous 🌔 Moon with 64% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the west-southwest (255ยฐ) at an altitude of 50ยฐ from the horizon, some 238,615 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 31st. Buckle up for safety! 💺 The Worm 🐛 Moon is on Monday, March 9. Sunrise is one minute and 38 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 7:06 am with sun in the east-southeast (105ยฐ). Tonight will have 12 hours and 36 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers between 9am and 1pm. Partly sunny 🌦, with a high of 51 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 30th. Breezy, with a west wind 17 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 43 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1919. 8.3 inches of snow fell back in 1971.โ„

I didn’t get to the store tonight 🏪 but I may go tomorrow. I might also go to Glenmont to wash my truck. 🚙 It was a kind of wet night and I wasn’t sure how much salt on the roads and who wants to drive in the dark and heavy rain? Although it wasn’t raining much earlier – well except for the evening commute 🚍.

In four weeks on March 31 the sun will be setting in the west (277ยฐ) at 7:20 pm (Daylight Savings Time),🌄 which is one hour, 32 minutes and 46 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 60 and 35 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 51 and 31 degrees. The record high of 89 degrees was set back in 1998.

Looking ahead, St. Patrick’s Day 🍀 is in 2 weeks, 7:30 PM Sunset 🌇 is in 5 weeks, Cinco de Mayo 🤠 is in 9 weeks, Primary Day 🗳๏ธ is in 16 weeks, Election Day 2020 🗳๏ธ is in 8 months and Election Day 2020 🗳๏ธ is in 8 months.

 Table

February 28, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Well Happy, Yappy, Scrappy Friday! Final Friday of February, tomorrow being a presidential year its Leap Day – February 29th. All because the earth ๐ŸŒŽ rotates around the sun in 365 1/4 days. Honestly, I think it would be better to add an extra 6 hours to New Years Eve but I don’t make up the calendar ๐Ÿ“…. Or maybe that would better to do on January 1st, with all those folks who are hung over? ๐Ÿพ Two weeks to 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ†. Partly cloudy and 24 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a west-southwest breeze at 14 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The current wind chill is 12. Things will start to thaw out at around noontime. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Cold and gray but at least it is not raining today. โ˜ Aggressive bus driver today, left right at 8:26 from the park and ride ๐Ÿšshe’s always accelerating and braking really hard. Makes for a quick ride in for sure. Always like taking the express in on non session days, as I get a nice walk plus it’s more scenic and a faster bus ride ๐Ÿš. It actually wasn’t a bad thing that most of the earlier half of the week was session days — it was too cold and wet to walk down to the express bus for most of the week.

Today will have a slight chance of snow showers after 3pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 34 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 14th. West wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 28 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1903. 9.7 inches of snow fell back in 1948.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 39.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-31.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:05 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (253ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (260ยฐ) starting at 5:41 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 6:11 pm, which is one minute and 14 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (233ยฐ) at an altitude of 46ยฐ from the horizon, 249,433 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:45 pm. At sunset, look out for possible snow showers ๐ŸŒจ and temperatures around freezing.ย While not guaranteed we will get lake effect snow, it could mean tricky conditions heading home. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 20 degrees at 6am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 27th. Maximum wind chill around 11 at 5am; Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to degrees. The record low of -2 occurred back in 2008.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 28 degrees at 2pm. 10 degrees below normal. West wind 10 to 16 mph. Going to be a cold and chilly day for Leap Day. Look before you leap, the lake is probably frozen. Sounds like a good day to stay home, work on some soldering projects, ride the exercise bike, maybe come up with some new content for the blog, and go down to the library and get more books.๐Ÿ“š A year ago, we didn’t have leap day, as it wasn’t a presidential election year. The record high of 54 was set in 1976. 4 inches of snow fell back in 2012.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 34. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph. Typical average high for the weekend is 38 degrees. I think that will be the best day to get out and do something fun in the wilderness. ๐ŸŒฒBest of all, it will be cold enough, at least in the hill towns that everything won’t be mush and muck. Instead, it will be frozen. Although if not, I do always carry at least my inexpensive, non-insulated farm muck boots in my truck.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 20 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 6:59 pm with dusk at 7:27 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, sleet and temperatures between 44 and 21 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 43 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 2012.
