September 20, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Average is High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ ! Won’t be that hot today but it’s a true sign that autumn is coming on Tuesday. Next Sunday has More Night then Day ๐Ÿ€ผ/strong>๓“€ฎ Partly cloudy and 41 degrees at the Black Creek Marsh WMA. โ›… Calm wind. The skies will clear around 8 am.

Out hiking and bird watching ๐Ÿฆ after the first frost of the year here. Cool but nice. Still not a lot of leaves in color and while I saw a doe ๐ŸฆŒ and some Blue Jays, a big fat Catbird and accidentally flushed out a grouse ๐Ÿ•Š I am hearing more birds than actually seeing them.

Had a quick cup of coffee โ˜• and made some pancakes ๐Ÿฅž before rushing out here for the first break of daylight. I hope I remembered to turn off the kitchen stove but if not the stove is on low and its a cast iron pan ๐Ÿณ so I’m not worried. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ It’s mostly just a waste of electricity and maybe a need to regrease the pan after washing.

In the afternoon I’ll probably hike at Partridge Run ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป although I’m still considering my options. ๐Ÿ’ญ I am heading out to the folks house for Sunday dinner later on. Going to cool but still a nice day. Might want to get out there early so I don’t have to drive home when it’s pitch black out. With the rut underway, ๐Ÿ†I find myself constantly scanning left then right, to avoid possibly hitting a deer ๐ŸฆŒ.

Today will be partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 59 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 17th. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 8 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1946.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:50 pm with sun having an altitude of 48.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-22.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:20 pm with the sun in the west (266ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (272ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:58 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:24 pm, which is one minute and 48 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (234ยฐ) at an altitude of 16ยฐ from the horizon, 226,859 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:59 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 57 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 14 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have patchy frost after 4am. Otherwise, clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 35 degrees at 6am. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 31st. Light northwest wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1973.

My socks ๐Ÿงฆ were absolutely gross again when I took them off last night. I don’t know if it’s the boots ๐Ÿ‘ข or just my sweaty feet with the corn meal ๐ŸŒฝ based foot powder ๐Ÿ‘ฃ that replaced the talcum powder which isn’t sold anymore due to asbestos contamination. But they are soaking against in the laundry soap so I’m hoping the muck will come out. I will agitate them a bit and rinse them before pulling out of the bucket and putting in the wash – they just aren’t coming out real clean.

Still need to get the new battery ๐Ÿ”‹ in my laptop. It should really improve the rate of battery life but unfortunately on this laptop it’s not a plug ๐Ÿ”Œ and play battery, you have to physically disassemble things with care to replace the battery.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Last Sunset After 6:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† with dusk at 6:59 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 59 and 41 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1891.

Good evening! Clear and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒŒ Calm wind. Another very cold night on tap.

Today was a nice day, ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ›๐Ÿธ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿฆ† doing some hiking and poking around the Pine Bush. I wanted to go to Black Creek Marsh but I didn’t get a very early start as I got listening to the news ๐Ÿ“ฐ and then I ended up working on some code for my blog.

Calm wind becoming north 5 to 8 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1946.

I am thinking about getting up fairly early and doing some bird watching ๐Ÿฆ at Black Creek Marsh Wildlife Management Area in the morning. ๐ŸŒ… I haven’t been there since spring and it’s nice. I was going to do that this morning and then last night but I didn’t get an early start.

Still dealing with really gross socks ๐Ÿงฆ. I’m hopeful this time with soaking them they’ll get nice and clean. I will rinse them out come morning.

Got my new mask from Lynne Jackson. ๐Ÿ˜ท I will still wear the bandana when I’m out and about but when I’m working downtown it’s better to have something cooler and more comfortable.

In four weeks on October 17 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (258ยฐ) at 6:09 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 48 minutes and 4 seconds earlier then tonight. Cold start to the morning, โ„ although maybe not cold for snow. Went to the bathroom ๐Ÿšฝ and had a cold cup of coffee โ˜•. In a little bit I’ll make some fresh coffee and corn bread pancakes ๐Ÿฅž and then shower ๐Ÿšฟ and head out to Black Swamp to do some wild observation.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 59 degrees at 3pm. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 17th. North wind 5 to 8 mph. Most of the afternoon I’ll probably spend at the Albany Pine Bush. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿฆ†๐Ÿธ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿ› It should be a nice afternoon and I’ll try to post some pictures while I’m out and about. Next weekend I’m hoping to get to the Adirondacks, probably in the area around Spectulator – so I can get to library Wi-Fi as necessary ๐Ÿ’ป for work.

September 18, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and 49 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒŒ There is a north breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

Tonight is a bit of a chilly evening. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ That breeze definitely makes it feel cold. I went for my evening walk,๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป then sat out back for a little while with my hoodie on enjoying the cool but and clear. A fairly busy day that extended into the evening so I didn’t get a chance to walk down to the park to see if the Wi-Fi works again there. ๐Ÿ“ถ

15 weeks left in 2020. ๐ŸŽ‡ Going to be a crazy remainder of the year ๐Ÿคช with the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg โš–. It should be an interesting battle over her successor. But whatever is going to happen will happen although I think they really should wait for the next president to appoint the judge – whether it be the Trumpster or Biden His Time. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

One thing about her death ๐Ÿฆ†is it got me reading ๐Ÿ“– about the Chesapeake and Baltimore Canal. ๐Ÿšฒ I think I want to check that out the next time I go down to West Virginia, especially if I have a bicycle to ride by then. ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ William O. Douglas did a lot to preserve the canal and the area around Cumberland Maryland is quite beautiful. ๐Ÿž

I am going hiking tomorrow in the Pine Bush ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿฆ‹๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒand then meeting some people for lunch out there. Going to be a beautiful day for sure, but definitely cool day, with temperatures in the 50s all day. My sideburns areย really starting to grow in nicely. ๐Ÿง”๐Ÿฝย It certainly cuts down on the amount I have to shave. I like the sideburns look but it was hot.

North from the Summit

September 17, 2020 Night

Good evening! Rain showers and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 54 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 7 am.

Sitting out back for a while watching the rain come in ๐Ÿ’ฆ just enjoying a mild late September evening. ๐ŸŒƒ It was a fun day heading downtown on the bus ๐Ÿš for a long but kind of fun socially distant meeting in a big conference room with masks on. ๐Ÿ’ผ Then I went to John Wolcott house for a couple hours and looked through a bunch of Fort Orange history and old records about Mayor Yates House, now the DASNY building. ๐Ÿ“œ

It was a long day with the banada over my face, kind of hot but so he it. ๐Ÿ˜ท I am actually thinking of buying a real mask, because the bandana on the face gets tiresome when you’re downtown a good portion of the day. I wonder what Tractor Supply has for fashionable reusable masks. I bet a Carhartt mask would be fun. Then I can get a boring black mask for fancy meetings so I can look like Biden This Time. ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป

It was fun to take the bus downtown. ๐ŸšYou know I miss the time on the bus, ๐ŸšŒ the quiet time to myself listening to a podcast or my earphones ๐ŸŽง, looking out the window. Everybody wore their Coronavirus muzzle, as my IIIer hog farming friends like to say. ๐Ÿ˜ท I think the dangers of transit are exaggerated ๐Ÿ‘พ although I did wash my hands good when I got to the office ๐Ÿข and when I got home ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป. Then again . I had to giggle ๐Ÿคญ at the signs defaced with BLM painted on them and the graffiti removal crew nowhere to be scene. โœŠ๐ŸปโœŠ๐ŸฝโœŠ๐Ÿฟ Cities are wonderful for the disorder and grime they represent. ๐Ÿ˜€ The world isn’t perfect ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป.

I went for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป and it was pleasant maybe because I was so charged up about being able to ride the bus and work downtown again. ๐Ÿ™ I legitimately do miss the old days when things were normal and you got on the bus every day and worked in that big office building in the city. It was just so nice for at least a while having a semblance of the old life peering out from under the Coronavirus muzzle. ๐Ÿ˜ท

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers. Okay, later, raining now a bit. ๐Ÿ’ง Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 49 degrees at 5am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 22nd. Northwest wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 35 occurred back in 1986.

Tonight will have a New ๐ŸŒš Moon with 0% illuminated. The Hunter ๐Ÿน Moon is on Thursday, October 1. The darkest hour is at 12:51 am, followed by dawn at 6:10 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:39 am in the east (87ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:16 am with sun in the east (93ยฐ). Tonight will have 11 hours and 37 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny โ˜, with a high of 62 degrees at 2pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 10th. Maximum dew point of 48 at 6am. North wind 9 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1891.

I was told today that my hair is rapidly getting gray. ๐Ÿง“๐ŸปI guess I’m getting old but I think some of it has to do with my hair cut short โœ‚ and the fact I’m growing sideburns. I’ve been noticing that a lot more in the mirror too. But already the sideburns are filling in nicely and it’s a bunch less shaving before I shower ๐Ÿšฟ although I do that less now as I’m not working downtown and nobody knows if you’ve put on deodorant on over Zoom Meetings.

In four weeks on October 15 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (259ยฐ) at 6:12 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 48 minutes and 28 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 62 and 39 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 60 and 40 degrees. The record high of 86 degrees was set back in 1897.
