Good evening! Mostly clear and 62 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 55 degrees. ๐ŸŒ†

A nice night. ๐ŸŒŒ Even a bit warm at least inside. I am getting packed and ready to head to the Adirondacks before work in the morning and will spend the work day in Spectulator. โ›บ Should be a nice colorful autumn weekend ๐Ÿ‚ with temperatures in the mid 70s even up north.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 52 degrees at 5am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 16th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 9pm. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2019, we had rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1963.

Tonight will have a First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon with 48% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the south-southwest (213ยฐ) at an altitude of 17ยฐ from the horizon, some 232,223 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by March 18th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The moon will set in the west-southwest (237ยฐ) at 11:10 pm. The Hunter ๐Ÿน Moon is on Thursday, October 1. The darkest hour is at 12:48 am, followed by dawn at 6:17 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:45 am in the east (90ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:22 am with sun in the east (96ยฐ). Tonight will have 11 hours and 55 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 75 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 10th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 5pm. Southwest wind 3 to 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 73 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 2017.

Should be a great day in the Adirondacks. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿฆ‰ Looking forward to working from that park up by Lake Pleasant and the library up there and then setting up and having a nice campfire โ›บ come evening. It does get dark early this time of year so I should think whether or not I need to buy firewood ๐ŸŒณ on the way up there, less than 50 miles from my destination.

Dropping off paper ๐Ÿ“„ to the recycling dumpsters at the Park and Ride, โ™ป I saw that the town will be discontinuing the paper recycling service come October. I guess I will have to start going to the transfer station more regularly. It’s probably good to be making more regular trips, I should be recycling more plastics and getting rid of accumulated broken shit. ๐Ÿ—‘ Yes, I can probably use some of the paper to start campfires but it seems like so much trash is paper or cardboard. ๐Ÿ”ฅ ๐ŸŒฒ I can’t wait until I own land out in country and can just burn it or use it for livestock bedding but truth be told, paper doesn’t burn that great and leaves a lot of ash and residue.

In four weeks on October 21 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (256ยฐ) at 6:03 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 47 minutes and 7 seconds earlier then tonight. September 23, 2020 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. ๐Ÿช I wonder if Homesteady has made any more camel milking videos. Camels apparently have a very fast let down and milk out much quicker than cows do. They also are good for people who are allergic to milk. ๐Ÿฅ› I’m actually surprised you don’t see more camel dairies out there, you’d think there the kind of non commodity agriculture where there might actually be money to be made. Five weeks to Average High is 55 ๐Ÿ‚. Much colder weather will be upon us soon. Doesn’t take all that long come autumn for temperatures to get cold fast. Cloudy and gray โ˜๏ธ and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 47 degrees.

Definitely a dark and gray morning. โ˜• I had enough cold coffee left over from yesterday but I ended up skipping my morning walk as I didn’t sleep well last night ๐Ÿ’ค and I just wasn’t moving that quickly. Pancakes ๐Ÿฅž with the apple butter mom made for breakfast this morning. I had pasta last night around 9 pm and that left me with a sick stomach ๐Ÿคฎ come the early hours of the morning.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 73 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 15th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 2pm. Northwest wind 6 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1895.

I have a busy day on tap for work today. ๐Ÿ’ผ I have edits to a paper I need to finalize today, which turned out to be a lot more number ๐Ÿ”ข crunching than expected. I also want to find some time to start getting packed for camping as I have four o’clock Zoom Meeting ๐Ÿ“น and they always tend to run late and I also want time to run to the store ๐Ÿฌ after work.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:48 pm with sun having an altitude of 47.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-23.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, sunny, with a high near 76. Maximum dew point of 59 at 5pm. Sunday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 77. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 62 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees.

I am getting ready to head up north come Thursday morning before work. ๐Ÿ—ป It will be an early morning trip but traffic should be light at that hour. I will spend the day working from the Spectulator Library and Town Park, and then set up camp for three days. โ›บ Sunset is early this time of year and the mornings are chilly but the heater is good and warm. โ™จ

Good evening! Clear and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒŒThere is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 42 degrees.

This evening after work I was back over at John Wolcott’s house, continuing to look through his Fort Orange file. ๐Ÿ“‚ I found some interesting photos which I posted last night. โš’ It was a a nice evening but by the time I had dinner it was too late for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป.

I really enjoyed being downtown at working in a real office. ๐Ÿข Simply said, my wooden chair on a painters bench isn’t really comfortable for working and both the cellular internet and the Wi-Fi at the library parking lot ๐Ÿ…ฟ are slow compared to working directly over the ethernet with the big monitor I have at the office. ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ I think as long as the pandemic remains in control I will start working downtown on Tuesdays going forward ๐Ÿ™, but heading in and staying late to avoid crowded buses. ๐ŸšŒ

Tonight will be clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 24th. Northwest wind around 8 mph. The darkest hour is at 12:49 am, followed by dawn at 6:16 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:44 am in the east (89ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 53 seconds. Tomorrow I want to get packed up for camping ๐Ÿ• and go grocery shopping. ๐Ÿ›’ I am out of most food ๐Ÿฒ so I ended up eating the last of the pasta I had at home which was okay ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป but nothing to celebrate. I especially don’t like eating a lot of pasta before bed ๐Ÿ› but I was hungry and that’s all I had.

That article on Vermont banning disposable glass bottles was definitely an interesting one. ๐ŸถWhile many recycling programs claim to take back glass โ™ป, in many cases its a scam because the recycled glass is just pulverized and used for landfill road backfill instead of gravel. Glass is such a nuisance in farm country to this day, it gets into hay and kills cows and cuts feet. Farm trash dumps are full of it because it doesn’t burn. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Plastics may also be problematic but at least it tends not to be quite as harmful as glass, at least mechanically but it is more toxic โ˜  when it goes up into smoke or is ground up in the water or soil. Honestly, the solution is more refillable containers like used to be common. As the sign at Byrne Dairy says, get your milk in (returnable/refillable) glass and have less trash. โฌ‡๏ธ๐Ÿ—‘

Good morning! Happy Autumn ๐Ÿ‚! Starts at 9:30 am. Sunny and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind.

Autumn always comes and goes so quickly ๐Ÿ‚ and I don’t think this year will be a exception. But honestly November is my favorite month. I like the many shades of brown and yellow from the tamarack. I like the cold and the wood smoke.

I only had the dregs of the coffee โ˜• in the coffee container so I boiled the percolator extra long. It actually became out reasonably strong. Maybe not as strong as cold coffee that has sitting out for a couple of days but still pretty good.

So this morning I’m heading downtown ๐Ÿš for work a little bit later than usual to miss the commuter crush. I have that comfortable mask to wear ๐Ÿ˜ท and it should be a good day. I told John last night that I would come over to and continue digging through his files ๐Ÿ“‚.

Today will have areas of frost before 9am. Otherwise, sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 65 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 2nd. I am still planning on heading up to Spectulator for four days starting Thursday before work. โ›บ I am undecided on my exact plans, I am going back and forth about whether I should bring my kayak ๐Ÿ›ถ. The problem is I’m going to need a lot of sunshine โ˜€ to keep things charged with the laptop and the sun angle is twenty degrees lower than even a few months back. Winter is coming.

Good evening! Clear and 43 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. ๐ŸŒŒ

It was a pretty good Monday. ๐Ÿ’ผ Kind of a busy day with work and meetings. Didn’t have a lot of extra time before and after it was too late to go to the grocery store so I just ended up getting milk ๐Ÿฅ› at Stewart’s.

Tomorrow I’m working downtown ๐Ÿ’ผ at least part of the day. ๐Ÿ˜ท I’ll just catch the bus downtown ๐ŸšŒ and I have that mask I bought from Lynne. It is very comfortable, I wore it while I was at John Wolcott’s house this evening. I actually don’t mind working downtown ๐Ÿšit’s a nice change from the library. ๐Ÿข

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Three weeks to Columbus Day โ›ต ๐Ÿ‚ . When that happens the leaves are close to peak and then suddenly the leaves fall off the trees and we plunge into the browns of November. Sunny and 43 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind.

Out for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป on this sunny but cold late summer morning. ๐ŸŒ… Officially autumn begins tomorrow although the past few days have seen high temperatures well below normal. ๐Ÿ‚ A few more days and there will be more night than day.

As autumn gets underway ๐Ÿš still no buses are leaving the park and ride ๐Ÿšbut I’m still working one day a week downtown in the afternoon. I’m trying to pair it up with going over to John Wolcott’s house ๐Ÿก so I can make only one trip downtown. ๐Ÿ˜ท I got that mask from Lynne Jackson so I have something more comfortable to wear wear to work.

Tuesday I’m catching the bus downtown ๐Ÿข for Tuesday meetings and work session, Wednesday I’m packing and getting food ๐Ÿฒ for for camping ๐Ÿ• and Thursday I’m heading north before dawn.

I am thinking about going to the Adirondacks – Spectulator Area come Thursday morning โ›บ for a long weekend. Probably work from the Spectulator Library ๐Ÿ“š on Thursday and Friday and then maybe Saturday night camp on Piseco Powley Road if it’s open Saturday night and Sunday spend a delightful day at Moss Island. ๐Ÿฆ Or maybe I’ll wait on Moss Island until my October trip when the leaves are better.

September 20, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. Cool but pretty clear on this late September night ๐ŸŒƒ. Went for an evening walk ๐Ÿšถ but I decided to lay inside on the bed, ๐Ÿ› because it wasn’t warm enough to sit out back. Wouldn’t be bad with a sweater, next to the fire though.

After coming home from Black Creek Marsh Wildlife Management Area I ended up deciding on going out to Bennett Hill โ›ฐ๏ธ for a hike in Clarksville. Always kind of a fun hike but lately it’s been so crowded there since the growing popularity of all outdoors activities since the pandemic started. ๐Ÿฎ Always fun seeing the cows there and the views – especially of Wolf Hill ๐Ÿบ are always nice. I’ll leave Partridge Run for a nice autumn day for hiking with lots of blaze orange and a gun in sling.

Went out to my parents house ๐Ÿก and we had Stuffed Peppers ๐Ÿฒ which is always really good when the peppers are fresh. ๐Ÿซ‘ It was good seeing them and I did my wash out there so I don’t have to do it this week at the laundromat. ๐Ÿ‘š

Continuing to upload pictures ๐Ÿ–ผ to the blog, but I had to stop mid-day as I discovered a problem with the photo uploader, which ran out of ID allocations and then permissions — a code issue that I have finally fixed. ๐Ÿ’ป That said, I thought I had fixed that issue months ago but that wasn’t the case. ๐Ÿ˜•Also have some new content for this week that I will be posting as the week progresses.

Still haven’t put the new battery ๐Ÿ”‹ in the laptop, but hopefully I’ll have some downtime this week but I have busy week on tap.

I finally checked the oil in the truck, and it wasn’t too bad.๐Ÿซ– Added a quarter of a quart of oil, but it was well within the normal range, but this should keep it good for a few weeks. I realized I hadn’t checked it since the last oil change in July, before vacation.

I am watching the forecast but I’m thinking of heading up to the Adirondacks this weekend, if the forecast remains true. But I am sure by the weekend, things will change and it will be pouring rain for most of the week.
