September 17, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Constitution Day ๐Ÿ“œ! I like constitution but it’s only as good as the people who are enforcing it. Two weeks to October ๐ŸŽƒ and Harvest Moon ๐ŸŒ•. Shine on Harvest Moon in a few weeks. Late this year, in October or is the Hunter’s Moon? ๐Ÿน๐ŸฆŒ Partly sunny with haze and 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒค๏ธ There is a south breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 50 degrees.

I went for my morning walk, ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป and it was a nice morning but the sky still has that gray-blue dull color from the western wildfire ๐Ÿ”ฅ. I ended up just walking around the Swift Preserve ๐Ÿธ, it was a nice morning but I got a late start because I had trouble getting out of bed ๐Ÿ›.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly after 5pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 72 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 57 at 1pm. South wind 5 to 7 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 73 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1942.

I have a meeting downtown today mid day ๐Ÿ•› and I’m still chewing over whether I should drive there or take a bus ๐ŸšŒ. I haven’t ridden the bus much in six months but it’s so convenient. ๐Ÿ™„But then again there is old Corona hiding out everywhere or so the politicians want us to believe. ๐Ÿ‘พ Duck ๐Ÿฆ† that, I’ll wear a mask ๐Ÿ˜ท. Or at a banada as I don’t own a real mask.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:51 pm with sun having an altitude of 49.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-21.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:25 pm with the sun in the west (267ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (274ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:03 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:29 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (274ยฐ) at an altitude of 1ยฐ from the horizon, 227,241 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:04 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 62 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 23 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

This afternoon I’m heading over John Wolcott house ๐Ÿ”Ž for a while to see what random files ๐Ÿ“‚ we can find although after the Fort Orange box ๐Ÿ—ƒ there hasn’t been a lot interesting things the past few weeks. But you never know what you will find.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 47 degrees at 6am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 26th. North wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 35 occurred back in 1986.

Yesterday I went down to the park and the Wi-Fi was down ๐Ÿ’ป which was obnoxious for the Zoom Meeting. I ended up going to the library parking lot and working there in the evening and updating the blog. ๐Ÿ“ I then came home and listened to the Save the Pine Bush Virtual Dinner honoring the late Reszin Adam’s over the conference call on my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑwhile I had Macoroni and Cheese with the fixings ๐Ÿง€ but it wasn’t as good as Reszin’s lasagna.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 11 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Saturday, patchy frost before 7am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 60. North wind 5 to 9 mph. Sunday, patchy frost before 8am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 61. Maximum dew point of 35 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 71 degrees.

Definitely going to feel like an autumn weekend. ๐Ÿ‚ Saturday I’m going hiking in the Albany Pine Bush Preserve and probably somewhere local on Sunday. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป Next weekend I’m hoping to get up north if the weather is nice.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until October ๐ŸŽƒ and Harvest Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 6:36 pm with dusk at 7:04 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain and temperatures between 78 and 60 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 90 back in 1927.

Good evening! Mostly clear and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ† There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 44 degrees.

Nice night for sitting out back. ๐ŸŒŒ Sure gets dark early this time of year and with the public library closed due to the pandemic I’ve not been spending my evenings down there with my laptop ๐Ÿ’ปand I’ve been going out earlier in the evening for my walk. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป That’s good as it means earlier to bed.

All day the skies were hazy from the western wildfires. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Just kind of a dull gray, like maybe on a hazy summer day or modestly cloudy day but not really dark. A sign of the times, although not that uncommon in recent years. At least we’ve been spared hurricanes ๐ŸŒ€ so far for the year in Upstate NY.

September 14, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 41 degrees. Pleasant evening, maybe a bit cool.

I went out for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป a bit early and then sat out back for a while. Starting to get a bit chilly out but will be a nice night for sleeping ๐Ÿ˜ด although by morning I will be buried under the covers. โšฐ I am glad I turned the hot water heater back on – I think you get a lot cleaner with a hot shower ๐Ÿšฟ.

Busy day but I got to the store ๐Ÿฌ and then to the laundromat ๐Ÿ‘š so now I have lots of choices for clean shirts to wear for the rest of the week. I really don’t have as much wash as I wear the same jeans ๐Ÿ‘– and often clothes multiple days remote working ๐Ÿ’ป as you don’t have to be that clean and nobody cares if you smell sweaty or dirty with remote work.

Wakely Mountain

September 12, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 61 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 51 degrees. A pleasant evening, not too cool, sitting out back watching some YouTube ๐ŸŽž๏ธ I downloaded and then a copy of the NY Back Country Hunters series on Learn to Hunt. Always good to learn a thing or two new.

It was a nice day up at Rennselearville State Forest. ๐ŸŒป๐Ÿ’ฎ๐Ÿฆ‹ I do wish though I had gotten an earlier start so I would have had more time to explore more of the forest ๐Ÿ”ญ but I did get a few hours to poke around the forest. ๐ŸŒฒThe morning was kind of busy with work stuff – I ended up having to run some numbers ๐Ÿ”ข after a work call ๐Ÿ“ž then I got working on some edits to something else.

Like always I do like poking around those back country roads ๐Ÿฎ and this time up at Rennselearville State Forest was no exception. First time I’ve been on Travis Hill in many years – still mostly just hunting camps up there. ๐ŸฆŒ A lot of changes to the tree cover at the state forest ๐ŸŒฒsince I was last there with harvests.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 55 degrees at 4am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 8th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 10pm. Light southeast wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph after midnight. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1964.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 22% illuminated. The Harvest ๐ŸŒฝ Moon is on Sunday, September 27. The darkest hour is at 12:52 am, followed by dawn at 6:05 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:33 am in the east (84ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 55 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:11 am with sun in the east (90ยฐ). Tonight will have 11 hours and 23 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over last night.

This evening when I was at the folks house ๐Ÿก I went online and increased my weekly average investments in adjustance to my increased pay as a supervisor. Investments are growing nicely although I’m not sure if I they are fully above the pre pandemic highs so far its been good times. ๐Ÿ’ต Both retirement and mid term savings are growing ๐Ÿ“ˆ and I’m getting closer to being able to afford the off-grid property in the 2030s and partial retirement to hobby farm – homestead in the 2040s. ๐Ÿ

I do need to make some hard decisions by the end of November ๐Ÿ’ฐ because I expect to be retiring Big Red next fall and I may not want to renew all of my certificate of deposit if I need a new vehicle. ๐Ÿš˜ That said, I’ve put more money into regular savings going forward and less in the market because I’m starting to think that the stock market is getting way over valued with all the coronavirus stimulus. Interest rates – at 7/10th of a percent on savings sucks though as your almost paying the bank ๐Ÿฆ for the privilege of holding your money. I don’t know if I want another car or truck but if I do I’ll probably look at something more economical to drive that uses less fuel โ›ฝ and spends less time at the shop. ๐Ÿ”ง Maybe a Prisus or a Tacoma.

I find motoring ๐Ÿ incredibly stressful ๐Ÿ˜ต and I look and see how much damage driving ๐Ÿš˜ does to our communities. Cars have ruined our urban fabric and polluted the landscape with smoke, noise and acres of asphalt. They kill and mame many and are so expensive to drive and insure. ๐Ÿš‘ And they always break down ๐Ÿ”ง and make scary noises. But on the other hand, they are the best ways to escape cities to the mountains ๐Ÿ—ป and remote farm country. ๐Ÿšœ

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly after 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 75 degrees at 3pm. Morning shouldn’t be too bad though. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 10th. Maximum dew point of 61 at 4pm. South wind 9 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1948.

I am thinking tomorrow about hiking out to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ in the morning before it gets all cloudy โ›… and starts to rain โ˜”. I still need to keep working on the paper ๐Ÿ“„ I’m editing and I have numbers ๐Ÿ”ข to crunch among other work projects this afternoon – and maybe some new blog content to do too.

In four weeks on October 10 the sun will be setting in the west (261ยฐ) at 6:20 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 49 minutes and 10 seconds earlier then tonight. September 11, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and 57 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 44 degrees. Cool evening.

Took my headphones out of my truck, brought them inside and misplaced them. ๐ŸŽง So I skipped my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป. Kind of cool out although if I wasn’t so tired it would have been a nice evening to sit out back. I still expect a few more nice evenings to sit out back before it gets too cold โ„ but I think after work hikes to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ is done with the early sunset ๐ŸŒ‡.

Staying warm

September 10, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 68 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒƒ There is a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 67 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 4 am. Surprisingly muggy for what is a relatively mild night but truth be told the humidity is not expected to last.

I ended up working late into the evening after a long meeting downtown. ๐Ÿ’ผ I haven’t really been downtown since the pandemic and certainly not in the office ๐Ÿข since then so it was kind of odd to see all those people on the street wearing masks ๐Ÿ˜ท to say nothing of the socially distant meeting around the big conference table with only a few participants, spread out six feet from each other. Parking ๐Ÿ…ฟ my big truck in the lot was a bitch, I’ll probably seriously consider taking the bus ๐Ÿš next time downtown. The last time I rode the bus it seemed like the buses were very clean and empty but maybe things have changed now that backdoor boarding is no more.

I also went to Walmart to pick up more supplies and once again forgot laundry soap. ๐Ÿ‘š At some point I’ll get down to the store and then the laundromat and clean my clothes. I actually find I need more shirts now that I have so many Zoom Meetings lately and have to look nicer. ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ’ผ๐ŸงŸโ€โ™‚๏ธMy evening walk was nice and pretty quiet.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy โ˜๏ธ, with a low of 59 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 26th. Maximum dew point of 67 at 10pm. North wind around 6 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It became sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 66 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1917.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 42% illuminated. The moon will rise at 11:50 pm. The Harvest ๐ŸŒฝ Moon is on Friday, September 25. The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 6:03 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:31 am in the east (83ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 55 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 3 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:09 am with sun in the east (89ยฐ). Tonight will have 11 hours and 18 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 70 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 21st. Maximum dew point of 56 at 6am. North wind around 9 mph. Beautiful Friday ahead. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It became somewhat humid as the day progressed. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1931.

I have what appears to be another lengthy Zoom meeting on Friday, ๐Ÿ“ฝ๏ธ which once again I’ll do from the park under that tree. It should be a nice place to do the meeting and the tree makes for a good background, the internet is fast ๐Ÿ’ป and it’s quiet. Plus if I get bored I can watch the traffic in the distance. ๐Ÿš™ ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿšš๐ŸšŒ

 Sunsets

September 10, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Today is the 6:30 Sunrise ๐ŸŒ‡. Definitely a dark morning with the rain pushing in. โ˜” Next Thursday is Constitution Day ๐Ÿ“œ. As I like to say, the constitution is only as good as the people who enforce it. Cloudy and fog and 64 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒซ Calm wind. The dew point is 63 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 7 am.

Got out for a little walk this morning ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป before the rain came which was heavy for a while but brief. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Cooked up corn bread ๐Ÿž for breakfast which was a good hardy breakfast. Going to be a dreary day today for sure. But nicer on Friday and Saturday.

Today will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ, with a high of 80 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 23rd. Maximum dew point of 68 at 1pm. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It became somewhat humid as the day progressed. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1931.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 52.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-18.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:38 pm with the sun in the west (271ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (277ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:15 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:42 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:17 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 75 degrees. The dew point will be 67 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 43 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

I have to go downtown today for an in person meeting. ๐Ÿ‘ฅ I haven’t been downtown in weeks. I was thinking about taking the bus ๐Ÿš but I’m still a bit hesitant with the pandemic smoldering all around us. It’s not bad at this point but is it worth the risk? That said the bus sure is convenient although I was thinking on my morning walk ๐Ÿšit’s been half a year since the bus last left the park and ride.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 58 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 30th. Maximum dew point of 68 at 6pm. West wind around 7 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It became sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 66 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1917.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Maximum dew point of 51 at 4pm. Sunday, showers likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 72. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Maximum dew point of 65 at 3pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 74 degrees.

I am thinking I will go hiking on Saturday ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป and then Sunday will be a stay home day although I guess I’ll probably do my wash ๐Ÿ‘š then. I kind of forgot to get laundry soap so I can’t go tomorrow or at least I think I’ll wait until I have time during the weekend. I might also go out to the folks house for Sunday dinner on a Saturday ๐Ÿฒ so we can have dinner in a socially distant fashion.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until October ๐ŸŽƒ and the Harvest Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 6:36 pm with dusk at 7:04 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain and temperatures between 78 and 60 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 90 back in 1927.
