November 25, 2020 Night

Good evening! Rain and 43 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around 2 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I ended up running to the bank ๐Ÿฆ and tonight to deposit my paycheck, return beer cans ๐Ÿป and get food and supplies for camping. ๐Ÿ›’ I also picked clear plastic bags for recycling โ™ป and another propane lantern. ๐Ÿฎ I’m going to part out my current one, because the globe alone costs $11 and I’m sure I’ll need one from that in the future and by the time I were to replace the plugged regulator it probably would have cost more than buying new. ๐Ÿ›  I do plan to use this new lantern on the spare Big Buddy filter I have to hopefully stop issues with it getting plugged.

Honestly, I didn’t want to go shopping tonight ๐Ÿง but I got my paycheck today in the mail โœ‰ and I needed to deposit it right away because it’s the end of the month and I have a lot of bills coming due on Friday. Plus my renters insurance is due, so it’s $1,750 due soon including automatic investments and savings withdrawals and without the paycheck in the bank it could be very tight. I make good money ๐Ÿ’ต but the more I make the more that gets invested or spent. My checking account is often paycheck to paycheck. I hope next pay period I’ll have direct deposit back. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Usually this is a bad night with the crowds at the store but this time it was relatively empty.

I have all the food ๐Ÿฒ and supplies I need for camping ๐Ÿ•. I’m leaving for the Adirondacks come Saturday. Where exactly I’ll go I’m a bit undecided although it looks like a mild and pleasant weekend. Probably not too remote in case I run into snow or ice ๐ŸŒจ up north. Never got to the library ๐Ÿ“š to get books but I have some I can bring from home ๐Ÿก and I’ll have lots of podcasts I’ll download tomorrow.

Tonight will rain. Patchy fog after midnight. ๐ŸŒง Low of 42 degrees at 12am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 9th. Southeast wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had mist in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of -11 occurred back in 1938.

Lately I’ve been sleeping ๐Ÿ˜ด better. I’ve been trying hard to retire early each night and keep my bedroom dark. ๐Ÿ’Š I forgot to get sleeping pills again but I am trying to get away from taking so many these days if I can avoid them. Also trying to use a lot of dim red light in my bedroom. Camping in the Adirondacks also always seems to improve my sleep.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 84% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the south-southwest (208ยฐ) at an altitude of 47ยฐ from the horizon, some 251,585 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by June 4th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Blue ๐ŸŒ Moon is on Monday, November 30. The darkest hour is at 11:44 pm, followed by dawn at 6:29 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:01 am in the east-southeast (118ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 18 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 10 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:44 am with sun in the southeast (126ยฐ). Tonight will have 14 hours and 35 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 41 seconds over last night.

Thanksgiving Day ๐Ÿฆƒ will have showers likely, mainly between 9am and 11am. Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 58 degrees at 3pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 21st. Maximum dew point of 52 at 1pm. South wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light drizzle in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 58 degrees. The record high of 67 was set in 1979. 9.6 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„

Heading out to the folks house for Thanksgiving tomorrow. ๐Ÿฆƒ I am lucky that they are close and we will have a socially distant meal ๐Ÿด with everybody spread out in the living room. Not sure how many more visits though after this one if the COVID lock downs restart.

In four weeks on December 23 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (238ยฐ) at 4:26 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 53 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny weather and temperatures between 50 and 18 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 33 and 19 degrees. The record high of 64 degrees was set back in 1990.

Looking ahead, Earliest Sunset of the Year โŒ›๏ธ is in 2 weeks, Tea Party Day ๐Ÿ is in 3 weeks, Festivus ๐Ÿ– is in 4 weeks, Christmas ๐ŸŽ… is a month away, Bacon Day ๐Ÿฅ“ is in 5 weeks, Make Your Dream Come True Day ๐Ÿก is in 7 weeks, Inauguration Day โœ… is in 8 weeks, 5 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 2 months, Clean Your Computer Day ๐Ÿงน is in 11 weeks and Presidents Day ๐Ÿ‘ด is in 12 weeks.

Before Dawn

November 25, 2020 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? ๐Ÿฆƒ The Wednesday before Thanksgiving in the year of the Corona for President ๐Ÿ‘พ, of course. ๐Ÿ— Two weeks to Earliest Sunset of the Year โŒ›๏ธ. Mostly cloudy and around the freezing point in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear Saturday around noontime.

Cool and gray morning for my walk. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป Today I plan to work primarily from home ๐Ÿก, using my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ and transferring files ๐Ÿ“‚ over as necessary. I expect a fairly quiet day as it’s the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. ๐Ÿฆƒ Who knows, maybe a project will come, it’s not like I can be at the beach ๐Ÿ– not doing work although I did spend some time at the beach last summer with the laptop doing work.

Yesterday I had to go downtown ๐Ÿข and work from the office. I had some paperwork to do and a socially distanced meeting. ๐ŸŒ‡ The sunset from my office was really nice. I didn’t get over to John Wolcott’s ๐Ÿ”Ž he had something come up so I went home. ๐Ÿš Rush hour these days isn’t bad, and even the bus ws quite empty although I did swap seats ๐Ÿ’บ when somebody moved a row too close. I also did my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป which was quite pleasant. Cranked the heat up when I got home but turned it down before bed ๐Ÿ› and it’s been mild enough that it’s fine.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 46 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 21st. South wind 8 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had light drizzle in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 2004. 21.8 inches of snow fell back in 1971.โ„ That’s a shit ton of snow.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:44 am with sun having an altitude of 26.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-44.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:43 pm with the sun in the southwest (234ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (242ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:27 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 18 seconds with dusk around 4:56 pm, which is 33 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the east-southeast (114ยฐ) at an altitude of 26ยฐ from the horizon, 251,372 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:32 pm. At sunset, look for cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 46 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 43 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain likely, mainly after 1am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 42 degrees at 10pm. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 9th. South wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2019, we had mist in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of -11 occurred back in 1938.

A picture perfect by November standards weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 46. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 47. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees.

Friday I’m heading up to the Adirondacks ๐Ÿ”๏ธ. No big plans, just some camping for a few days. โ›บ I will get groceries on my way up there. ๐Ÿ›’ I was going to get some books ๐Ÿ“š from the library but I got busy and never finished looking at the card catalog.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Earliest Sunset of the Year โŒ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:21 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain showers, cloudy and temperatures between 47 and 37 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 38 degrees. We hit a record high of 62 back in 1966.

November 24, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Next Tuesday is December ๐ŸŽ„. Partly cloudy and one degree above freezing for my morning walk. โ›… There is a northwest breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Definitely a nice sunny morning although a bit breezy. The sun is a welcome change, it’s been so cloudy and gray lately. But that’s normal for November.

After missing my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป the past few days, it’s a beautiful day for sure. Brisk but that’s to be expected in late November. I really enjoy the fresh air and sat out back last night for a couple of minutes until it got too cold out. ๐ŸŒƒ I hate when I miss my walk but sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

I am heading downtown ๐Ÿš for a while for meetings and paperwork. ๐Ÿ“„ I washed my mask ๐Ÿ˜ท and it’s hanging out to dry now. I am going to shower ๐Ÿšฟ and bring my laptops ๐Ÿ’ปto use at work. I told John Wolcott I’d be over later this afternoon to continue looking at old files. ๐Ÿ“‚

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 39 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 6th. Northwest wind 7 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 2014. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 1898.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:43 am with sun having an altitude of 26.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-44.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:44 pm with the sun in the southwest (235ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (242ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:27 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 17 seconds with dusk around 4:56 pm, which is 35 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (127ยฐ) at an altitude of 29ยฐ from the horizon, 249,985 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:33 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 45 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of snow, mainly between 2am and 5am. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒจ, with a low of 28 degrees at 9pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 27th. Calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light drizzle by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1938.

The propane lantern stopped working again. ๐ŸฎNo gas through it at all. I disassembled it and cleaned the valve with WD 40 and blew it out with compressed air but didn’t have any luck. Still not passing any propane. Months ago I discovered it was caked with black carbon which I removed. The lanterns are $29 at Wally World so I think I might just get another one and save the old one for parts – namely the glass globe which costs like $10 and I manage to break every few years. While I have electric lights, the propane lantern uses very little fuel and is bright ๐Ÿ”† and doesn’t shut off on under voltage. I will however run this lantern through the extra Big Buddy filter to avoid issues with it plugging in the future.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 49. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 47. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees.

I am still planning on heading to the Adirondacks this weekend. โ›บ It will be for two nights. While I certainly want to avoid the Black Friday crowds during the pandemic ๐Ÿคง I think I can get in and out of Hannaford on Friday on my way up avoiding the crowds. In my experience, Buy Nothing Day usually means the grocery stores are pretty empty. ๐Ÿ›’ People still have a lot of turkey ๐Ÿฆƒ to eat the next day.

As previously noted, next Tuesday is December ๐ŸŽ„ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2019, we had snow and temperatures between 28 and 17 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1934.

Frigid Winter Day

November 23, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Next Monday is Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ and Beaver Moon ๐ŸŒ•. Rain is pulling out and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a southwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Kind of a dark and dreary morning โ˜๏ธ and I had no milk ๐Ÿฅ› so I had to run to the store and buy more milk. ๐Ÿฎ I probably should have gotten an earlier start but too bad. I think I’m going to work from home today and then maybe catch a bus downtown to film ๐Ÿ“ผ some more of the John Wolcott documentary. Or maybe just go into the office tomorrow to do paperwork ๐Ÿ“„ and then go over to John’s house to work on files ๐Ÿ“‚ if he is available. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป Cleared out enough to walk this morning and it’s quite mild but damp. Nice and warm in my apartment as I left the heat turned up last night. โ™จ

Today will have showers, mainly before 10am. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 46 degrees at 7am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 21st. Southwest wind 8 to 18 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 1931. 5.0 inches of snow fell back in 1943.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:43 am with sun having an altitude of 26.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-43.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:44 pm with the sun in the southwest (235ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (243ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:28 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 16 seconds with dusk around 4:57 pm, which is 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (139ยฐ) at an altitude of 30ยฐ from the horizon, 248,045 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:33 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 40 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 45 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 11pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 11pm and 1am. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 32 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 16th. Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 2000.

Sunday dinner at the folks house ๐Ÿฒ was nice. Even if it was around tray tables on opposite sides of the living room. ๐Ÿฆƒ We are doing the same for Thanksgiving – just the three of us although with the pandemic getting worse it might be the last time I’ll be over there for a while if they go into lockdown.

While I was there, I downloaded several of the S. Beers Maps of Capital Region towns from 1866 ๐Ÿ—บ and started georefrencing them. I am planning a few different projects like comparing the property owners today. It’s always interesting to find the centennial farms and those who families who have have lived on the same land for 150 years. There is a lot of Schufelt’s in Berne going back to the era of the Civil War. ๐ŸฆŒ I bet they’ve harvested a lot of deer over the years.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 50. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 50. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees.

I am thinking about heading to the Adirondacks โ›ฐ on Friday for the long weekend. Spend a few nights in the wilderness, maybe have a fire, etc. Didn’t get my hunting or trapping license ๐Ÿ”ซ this year but honestly I think the woods is too crowded. โ›บ Meat ๐Ÿฅฉ in Styrofoam containers is a lot more easier and it’s fun to watch ’em burn. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

As previously noted, next Monday is Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ and Beaver Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 33 and 19 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1933.

November 22, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday in Biden’s America. โ›ช Maybe he’ll get a chance to build it back better when the Trumpster stops being such a sore loser. ๐Ÿคก I think even Alfred E Smith was a better boy ๐Ÿง’๐Ÿป after he lost. At least Mr. Smith had a wonderful sense of humor and did a lot for NYC charities even while he ran the Liberty League. ๐Ÿ—ฝ Two weeks to First Sunday of Advent โœ๏ธ. Partly sunny and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north-northeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Tuesday around 4 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I slept like shit last night ๐Ÿคช because I didn’t have any sleeping pills ๐Ÿ’Š and I’m increasingly dependent on them to stay asleep during the winter months when I can’t have the windows open. I think I was also was just quite disturbed by how packed both the Albany Pine Bush and Crossgates Maul were during the pandemic. ๐ŸŒฒ At least the judge through us a pretty good bone when it comes to Saving the Pine Bush although I’m sure the Pyramid scheme and its enablers will appeal immediately ๐Ÿšง and it’s the fight of the twenties. Tried to sleep in to catch up on the hours I was awake most of the night but now I’m just tired ๐Ÿ˜ด and the remainder of the day will be cloudy and gray. โ˜๏ธ

Today will have a chance of rain, mainly after 3pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 40 degrees at 11am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 4th. Going to a rather chilly morning to say the least. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1931. 9.1 inches of snow fell back in 1943.โ„

Today looks like a stay at home day. ๐Ÿก Sort of. I’m going out to the folks house later today for Sunday dinner ๐Ÿฒ but I don’t have any outdoors plans to day. ๐Ÿ“š I do want to look at library catalog ๐Ÿ“‡ online and think about reserving some books to pick up before the long holiday weekend. I have Buy Nothing Day off it would be good to get some books to read ๐Ÿ“– especially if I’m planning on going to the Adirondacks.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:43 am with sun having an altitude of 27.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-43.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:45 pm with the sun in the southwest (235ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (243ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:28 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 16 seconds with dusk around 4:58 pm, which is 39 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south-southeast (153ยฐ) at an altitude of 30ยฐ from the horizon, 245,651 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:34 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 37 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 31 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain, mainly after 11pm. ๐ŸŒง Low of 38 degrees at 6pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 15th. Southeast wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 4 occurred back in 2018.

It doesn’t look like we are going to get much snow or ice โ„ tonight and maybe the rain will wash the salt off the roads. I don’t think ๐Ÿค” I should count on an evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป but who knows, the rain may hold off. I’m hoping to stop somewhere and get more sleeping medication

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until First Sunday of Advent โœ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:22 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2019, we had snow showers, cloudy and temperatures between 34 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 39 degrees. We hit a record high of 68 back in 2001.

Cannon

November 21, 2020 11 PM Update

Good evening! Partly clear and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

It turned out to be a nice starry night. After my evening ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป I sat out back for a while. Its only about forty degrees out but with a coat it’s not too bad. I kind of wish I had gone up to the Adirondacks for the weekend.

Lots of friends and colleagues are posting pictures of the deer ๐ŸฆŒ they harvested on the first day of rifle season. Basically that one day accounts for 2/3rds of the state’s deer harvest. I’ve always just done small game although this year I didn’t get a license as I was busy with work and then it was so hot that one weekend I was up in the woods. Eventually when I own my own land. I’ll also hire a guide and really learn what I’m doing first and then invest serious time in a tree stand. Folks who have harvest a nice buck on opening day often spend weeks if not months studying and observing the land from their stand, zeroing in their rifles, looking at aerial photos and maps. That said, having your own land to hunt is a big benefit – public lands hunting sucks when your looking off a ridge and can spot two other hunters from your vantage point.

Hiking the Pine Bush was nice but it was so busy. ๐Ÿฆ‹ I probably should have hiked after the press conference after dark but I wanted to do some hiking. Almost every parking ๐Ÿ…ฟ spot at the Discovery Center was packed. So many people on the trails. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป The only place more packed then the Discovery Center Trails was the mall. Yucky. A crowded Crossgates Maul during the pandemic. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿคง๐Ÿ‘พ Saw two bow hunters there. ๐Ÿน I was kind of surprised as I thought most bow hunters would put their bow away for the first day of rifle in other parts of the county but maybe they figured the orange army ๐Ÿ”ซ would drive the deer into the Pine Bush.

Save the Pine Bush got a big victory by that judge โš–๏ธ ruling over the neighbors case over the SEQRA process over the Costco and apartment complex in the Pine Bush. ๐Ÿฆ‹ While I’m sure the ruling will be appealed and Save the Pine Bush must continue on its fight it buys the area time from being developed. ๐ŸŒฒ

Tonight will be partly clear ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 27 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 30th. North wind 5 to 7 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 8 occurred back in 2018.

This weekend turned out nicer than I expected and I kind of wish I could have rounded out this calendar ๐Ÿ—“ year of camping with 60 nights but I’ll make it there God willing before 2021. Still five more weekends left in the year. With the pandemic and remote work ๐Ÿ’ป I’ve spent more time camping ๐Ÿ• and nights in the woods then ever before. Some places got overused and there was some abuse of some places but there is still a lot of great wild country out there.

Tonight will have a First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon with 49% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the west-southwest (237ยฐ) at an altitude of 9ยฐ from the horizon, some 243,515 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ Quite a nice moon under star lit skies. At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by May 25th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The moon will set in the west-southwest (248ยฐ) at 10:59 pm. The Full ๐ŸŒ• Moon is on Monday, November 30. The darkest hour is at 11:42 pm, followed by dawn at 6:25 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:56 am in the east-southeast (117ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 16 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:39 am with sun in the southeast (125ยฐ). Tonight will have 14 hours and 28 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 54 seconds over last night.

No sleeping pills ๐Ÿ’Š left for tonight but with the red light in my bedroom ๐Ÿ’ก and sitting out back earlier I hope I’ll sleep okay. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป I’m going to buy more pills the next time I’m at Walmart – get the big jar that will last a long time.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain, mainly after 4pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 39 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 6th. November 21, 2020 10 AM Update

Good morning! It’s Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone ๐ŸฆŒ! Big game ain’t my thing living in the suburbs but all my country buds are up in their stands today with their rifles and shotguns. ๐Ÿ”ซ Next Saturday is Small Business Saturday. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ I’ll probably be out camping, God willing. Partly cloudy and 48 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a northwest breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ with gusts up to 25 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Monday morning around midnight. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Cornbread pancakes ๐Ÿฅž this morning for breakfast. I like them, they are a nice hardy breakfast compared to having regular pancakes with fruit ๐Ÿ’ which can get boring after a while although I’ve been seriously enjoying the frozen pineapple chunks ๐Ÿ I’ve been having all week. I like frozen fruits and vegetables as they don’t have a lot of packaging to get rid of and they are inexpensive and don’t spoil in the freezer.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 50 degrees at 10am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 11th. At least back in the day. Northwest wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became mostly clear by afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1931. 0.8 inches of snow fell back in 1937.โ„

I am going to walk out to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ a little after noon. This way I can have lunch before I leave and just bring my binoculars and camera ๐Ÿ“ธ. Sunny now, maybe I should go now but I’m enjoying a lazy Saturday listening ๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿป to the radio ๐Ÿ“ป, wasting bandwidth on Facebook. ๐Ÿ“ฑ

I had the heat on Thursday but since then it’s been mild enough โ™จ I’ve been keeping it turned down. I am sure I’ll need more in a few weeks especially working from home but I’m thinking I’ll get a heating pad and maybe a small desktop heater with a fan to turn on briefly when I get chilled and don’t want to necessarily crank up the heat on both floors of the apartment or use the upstairs electric baseboard heat. It’s gas downstairs, but that heater is rather slow.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:42 am with sun having an altitude of 27.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-43.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. Shadows are long this time of year. Sun is weak. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:46 pm with the sun in the southwest (236ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (243ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:29 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 16 seconds with dusk around 4:58 pm, which is 42 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the south-southeast (166ยฐ) at an altitude of 29ยฐ from the horizon, 242,928 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:34 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 45 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 32 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 24 degrees at 6am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 8th. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 8 occurred back in 2018.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain, mainly after 4pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 40 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 4th. Light and variable wind becoming southeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became mostly clear by afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1931. 9.1 inches of snow fell back in 1943.โ„

Tomorrow doesn’t sound really nice ๐Ÿ˜” but I’m probably going out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. ๐Ÿฒ Maybe a morning walk like last week, depending on the weather. I should run to the store ๐Ÿฌ next week before the craziness ๐Ÿคช of Black Friday and holiday / Thanksgiving shopping ๐Ÿ›’ to get some food and supplies, and return beer cans โ™ป that have been sitting in the back of my truck since I camped at Stoney Pond.
