December 6, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy First Sunday of Advent ✝️! Probably a lot of people are watching them light the advent candles 🕯 at online church ⛪ this morning. Four weeks to Latest Sunrise of the Winter 🌄️. Happens in January believe it or not. Mostly cloudy and 27 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ Breezy, ️20 mph breeze from the northwest 🌬 with gusts up to 31 mph 💨💨💨. The current wind chill is 14. Haven’t seen it talked wind chill in a while. Things will start to thaw out at around noontime. 🌡️

Kind of a blustery cold morning start to Sunday. 🌅 I was hoping for more sun this morning but that’s nowhere to be found. I am hoping to maybe go to Five Rivers this afternoon 🐸 and then I’ll have to see if my parents are having visitors or I’ll go to the laundromat. 🚿 I haven’t showered since Wednesday so I probably should do that and wash my sheets and clothes 👚 at the laundromat.

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 33 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 23rd. Breezy, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 2001. 12.5 inches of snow fell back in 2003.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 11:48 am with sun having an altitude of 24.8° from the due south horizon (-46° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 3:38 pm with the sun in the southwest (232°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (240°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:23 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 23 seconds with dusk around 4:53 pm, which is 6 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 5:30 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 32 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 15 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 3 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌃, with a low of 23 degrees at 5am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 10th. Maximum wind chill around 16 at 12am; Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 9 degrees. The record low of -7 occurred back in 1901.

Yesterday I was working on some electronics projects. 🔬 I was using perf board but I think I’m going to just use wire on solderless breadboard with short solid wire jumpers going forward.🔗 In my opinion that is much more flexible, quicker to build and easy to modify or upgrade and you don’t have to worry about accidentally bridging pins or solder drying out. 👨🏻‍🏭 And it can be made to be quite pretty. The trick though is to use solid copper wire that doesn’t flex easily and seats well into the breadboard.

25 days remain until the end of the year. ⏳ I hope you’ve worked to maximize this year to the best of your ability. I know a lot of people had complaints about the year that was but I think it was a fun year. 😁 I mean the markets are doing well 💰and I spent something like two months camping in the woods ⛺ doing remote work. Not sure what next year will be like but I think we are getting closer to normal.

Today in 1902, a coal mine explosion at Monongah, West Virginia, kills 362 workers. 💥And in 1953, Vladimir Nabokov completes his controversial novel Lolita. 💌 More uplifting is Adrian Kantrowitz performs the first human heart transplant in the United States in 1967.💓

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Latest Sunrise of the Winter 🌄️ when the sun will be setting at 4:34 pm with dusk at 5:06 pm. On that day in 2020, we had mostly cloudy, mild, rain showers and temperatures between 47 and 39 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 61 back in 1913.

December 3, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Next Thursday is 7:15 AM Sunrise ⌛️. Mostly sunny and dirty three degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌅 There is a south breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. Cold start to the morning but it’s warming up quickly.

I am enjoying the sun ☀ as I go for my morning walk. I am enjoying the sun and it’s a pretty pleasant day for early December. It was chilly this morning when I first awoke this morning although that’s because I turned the heat way down before bed 🛏. I had turned it up after getting home from working down at the library as I was kind of chilled through.

In three weeks my yearly prepaid phone expires, 📶 and I’ll go month to month with the unlimited data plan and probably 20 gb of hot spot data each month through March at least when it warms up again. 🌸 While I can do a lot on my phone, some remote work tasks are best done on the computer. 💻 The cost is balanced out by not having a bus fare to pay. 🚍 I do miss working in the office and walking down to the library though.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 46 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 21st. South wind 5 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 32 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 2009. 5.2 inches of snow fell back in 1893.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 11:46 am with sun having an altitude of 25.2° from the due south horizon (-45.6° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 3:39 pm with the sun in the southwest (232°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (240°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:24 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 21 seconds with dusk around 4:54 pm, which is 14 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 5:30 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 44 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 7 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 12 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 13 seconds over today.

Today at lunch time 🥪 I am going to wash my truck 🚚 and get some groceries then work at the library parking lot 🅿 for a few hours. That way the heater on my truck will be warm plus the solar gain ☀ through the windshield. Should be a nice day and I’ll make sure to bring my binoculars so I can watch the birds 🐦.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 32 degrees at 1am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 16th. South wind around 7 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 19 degrees. The record low of -9 occurred back in 1940.

I do not approve of this weekend, although Sunday will be okay. 😕 Saturday, a chance of rain and snow before 7am, then a chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. Light north wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 35. Typical average high for the weekend is 40 degrees.

This is the last weekend of regular deer season 🦌 so I’m thinking that maybe next weekend if the weather is decent and not too snowy I’ll get out of town for a few days. ⛺ I’d rather be in the woods when it’s quiet out there except for the black powder guys. 🌲

As previously noted, next Thursday is 7:15 AM Sunrise ⌛️ when the sun will be setting at 4:22 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain showers, mostly cloudy, mild and temperatures between 52 and 35 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 38 degrees. We hit a record high of 64 back in 1966.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Next Monday is Cyber Monday 🛍️ and Beaver Moon 🌕. Rain is pulling out and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☔ There is a southwest breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 3 am. ☃️

Kind of a dark and dreary morning ☁️ and I had no milk 🥛 so I had to run to the store and buy more milk. 🐮 I probably should have gotten an earlier start but too bad. I think I’m going to work from home today and then maybe catch a bus downtown to film 📼 some more of the John Wolcott documentary. Or maybe just go into the office tomorrow to do paperwork 📄 and then go over to John’s house to work on files 📂 if he is available. 🚶🏻 Cleared out enough to walk this morning and it’s quite mild but damp. Nice and warm in my apartment as I left the heat turned up last night. ♨

Today will have showers, mainly before 10am. 🌦 High of 46 degrees at 7am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 21st. Southwest wind 8 to 18 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 1931. 5.0 inches of snow fell back in 1943.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 11:43 am with sun having an altitude of 26.9° from the due south horizon (-43.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 3:44 pm with the sun in the southwest (235°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (243°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:28 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 16 seconds with dusk around 4:57 pm, which is 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous 🌔 Moon in the southeast (139°) at an altitude of 30° from the horizon, 248,045 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 5:33 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 40 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 45 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 11pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 11pm and 1am. Partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 32 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 16th. Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 2000.

Sunday dinner at the folks house 🍲 was nice. Even if it was around tray tables on opposite sides of the living room. 🦃 We are doing the same for Thanksgiving – just the three of us although with the pandemic getting worse it might be the last time I’ll be over there for a while if they go into lockdown.

While I was there, I downloaded several of the S. Beers Maps of Capital Region towns from 1866 🗺 and started georefrencing them. I am planning a few different projects like comparing the property owners today. It’s always interesting to find the centennial farms and those who families who have have lived on the same land for 150 years. There is a lot of Schufelt’s in Berne going back to the era of the Civil War. 🦌 I bet they’ve harvested a lot of deer over the years.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 50. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 50. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees.

I am thinking about heading to the Adirondacks ⛰ on Friday for the long weekend. Spend a few nights in the wilderness, maybe have a fire, etc. Didn’t get my hunting or trapping license 🔫 this year but honestly I think the woods is too crowded. ⛺ Meat 🥩 in Styrofoam containers is a lot more easier and it’s fun to watch ’em burn. 🔥

As previously noted, next Monday is Cyber Monday 🛍️ and Beaver Moon 🌕 when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 33 and 19 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1933.

Good morning! Happy Sunday in Biden’s America. ⛪ Maybe he’ll get a chance to build it back better when the Trumpster stops being such a sore loser. 🤡 I think even Alfred E Smith was a better boy 🧒🏻 after he lost. At least Mr. Smith had a wonderful sense of humor and did a lot for NYC charities even while he ran the Liberty League. 🗽 Two weeks to First Sunday of Advent ✝️. Partly sunny and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north-northeast breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Tuesday around 4 am. ☃️

I slept like shit last night 🤪 because I didn’t have any sleeping pills 💊 and I’m increasingly dependent on them to stay asleep during the winter months when I can’t have the windows open. I think I was also was just quite disturbed by how packed both the Albany Pine Bush and Crossgates Maul were during the pandemic. 🌲 At least the judge through us a pretty good bone when it comes to Saving the Pine Bush although I’m sure the Pyramid scheme and its enablers will appeal immediately 🚧 and it’s the fight of the twenties. Tried to sleep in to catch up on the hours I was awake most of the night but now I’m just tired 😴 and the remainder of the day will be cloudy and gray. ☁️

Today will have a chance of rain, mainly after 3pm. Increasing clouds 🌥, with a high of 40 degrees at 11am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 4th. Going to a rather chilly morning to say the least. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1931. 9.1 inches of snow fell back in 1943.❄

Today looks like a stay at home day. 🏡 Sort of. I’m going out to the folks house later today for Sunday dinner 🍲 but I don’t have any outdoors plans to day. 📚 I do want to look at library catalog 📇 online and think about reserving some books to pick up before the long holiday weekend. I have Buy Nothing Day off it would be good to get some books to read 📖 especially if I’m planning on going to the Adirondacks.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 11:43 am with sun having an altitude of 27.1° from the due south horizon (-43.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 3:45 pm with the sun in the southwest (235°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (243°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:28 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 16 seconds with dusk around 4:58 pm, which is 39 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous 🌔 Moon in the south-southeast (153°) at an altitude of 30° from the horizon, 245,651 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 5:34 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers 🌧 and temperatures around 37 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 31 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain, mainly after 11pm. 🌧 Low of 38 degrees at 6pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 15th. Southeast wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 4 occurred back in 2018.

It doesn’t look like we are going to get much snow or ice ❄ tonight and maybe the rain will wash the salt off the roads. I don’t think 🤔 I should count on an evening walk 🚶🏻 but who knows, the rain may hold off. I’m hoping to stop somewhere and get more sleeping medication

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until First Sunday of Advent ✝️ when the sun will be setting at 4:22 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2019, we had snow showers, cloudy and temperatures between 34 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 39 degrees. We hit a record high of 68 back in 2001.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is Buy Nothing Day 🛍️. HASH TAG waste your money on stupid plastic stuff. 💸↔️🗑 Clouds with some clearing and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌥 There is a south breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. The current wind chill is 30. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around 1 am. ☃️

Going one of the most pleasant Fridays in recent weeks. ⛅ Lots of sun and mild. It’s good, the past few days have been cool and I’ve had the heat on, especially working from home. But today it will be off and maybe crack open a window or two for fresh air.

Took the first shower 🚿 since Sunday. Working from home I don’t find the need to bathe 🛀🏻 nearly as regularly as I’m not getting dirty and nobody cares if you are unshaved or smelly when you are social distancing. 👃🏻 Plus it saves a lot of wash 👚 and water 💦 to wear the same clothes for multiple days.

A few rain drops 💧 as I go for my morning walk. 🚶🏻 But it’s reasonably warm to be walking for late November in a t-shirt 👕 with my vest over it. The air has a slight tang of barnyard and manure on it 🐮, but it’s November in Upstate NY. The sun ☀ certainly feels nice but at 10 or 15 degrees from the horizon it can only put out so much warmth.

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 55 degrees at 2pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 29th. South wind 9 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 1991. 3.4 inches of snow fell back in 1961.❄

I have a virtual meeting this afternoon 📹 which I’ll probably just walk down to the library or town park to do. I also want to download some of that MIT Election Lab data so I can play ▶ with that during down time this weekend. 📚 I also should look at getting some books out of the library to read in the evening and maybe work on some electronics projects now that the long winter is upon us. Nothing like breathing in some fumes from lead solder in one’s bedroom. 🔬 Says the boy 🧒🏻 whose burned his share of plastics over the years. 🔥

Solar noon 🌞 is at 11:42 am with sun having an altitude of 27.6° from the due south horizon (-43.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 3:47 pm with the sun in the southwest (236°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (244°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:30 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 14 seconds with dusk around 4:59 pm, which is 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter 🌓 Moon in the south (180°) at an altitude of 27° from the horizon, 240,016 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 5:35 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 54 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 32 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 54 seconds over today.

I am glad my state inspection 🚘 🔍 is done and the new registration is on my truck. I always worry about it a lot, especially now that my tires are getting worn down. I drove only 6,700 miles since last year according to the odometer although that’s off by 13% due to the 35 inch tires. This year I didn’t go to Western NY or Pennsylvania and generally have been doing more social distancing so fewer trips to the store 🏬 but more to the library for remote work. Plus with the solar panel and the two accessory batteries 🔋 on my truck, I would generally set up camp and remain parked 🅿 for multiple days.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌃, with a low of 39 degrees at 4am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 18th. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming west after midnight. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 1879.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 49 degrees at 12pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 14th. Northwest wind 6 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1931. 0.8 inches of snow fell back in 1937.❄

Cool but hopefully sunny and warm enough for a pleasant walk 🚶🏻 to Five Rivers 🐦. Those blue birds were pretty that I saw there the other week. I am not expecting a ton of sun but I like the exercise. You never know what wildlife you will see while up there. 🦉

Looking ahead to Sunday, a chance of rain after 1pm. ☔ Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. ☁️ Light and variable wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 46 degrees.

I’ll probably go out to the folks house on Sunday. 🍲 No big plans for Sunday, it might play with some of that Election Geodata I found on the MIT Election Lab 🔬 that I found the other night. Working from home 🏡 means less commuting time and sometimes downtime at work and no library to walk to weeknights or the weekend so I’ll have to figure new ways to keep busy during the long winter nights.

As previously noted, next Friday is Buy Nothing Day 🛍️ when the sun will be setting at 4:24 pm with dusk at 4:55 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny skies, rain showers and temperatures between 57 and 31 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 43 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 1896.

I am hoping next weekend to get up to the Adirondacks ⛰ ❄ to do some hot tenting ⛺ and hiking during the three day weekend. That said, not sure about the long range forecast. Might be kind of rainy. I’ll have to drive back Sunday as I don’t want to drive back in the dark from the Adirondacks. Some years the snow and ice hold off until January and I can do trips until the end of the year. Based on the amount of junk mail ✉ I got yesterday, the mailman is rooting for me to go it next weekend – certainly will have plenty of paper to start fires with. 🔥

November 17, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Two weeks to December 🎄. Cloudy and 30 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁️ There is a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. The skies will clear around 5 pm.

This is the middle of November 🦃 so cool and cloudy weather is to be expected. 🌥 Out for my morning walk 🚶🏻, and it’s cool and gray but generally pleasant for the second half of November. A week from today will be the Tuesday before Thanksgiving 🦃. Listening to Simon and Garfunkel’s Cloudy.

Not AN ILLEGAL! At least when it comes to my truck. I got my new registration sticker on my truck 📜 and my truck passed inspection but I have to go back to the shop for the sticker later in the week. Annoying that they haven’t gotten the stickers after the November 3rd rush but they said it would take two minutes to get the inspection finished later in the week but everything looked good. At any rate, it buys me time ⌚. At some point I’ll have to make a decision about the tires and probably the worn struts and the wheel bearing that I think is going although it might just be the wear noise of the tires.

Been doing a lot of research on internet options for January should the pandemic continue along for remote work 💻 from home. I am thinking if I can reduce my data service on my phone 📱 I can cover at least some of the cost. I just don’t think it’s practical to work in my truck from the library when it’s negative 20 out and I don’t want to screw up my good job because I’m so damn stubborn about technology. 🙄My phone plan expires in December, so I could cut down the data plan to save money there. I’ll probably have to reduce my monthly savings goals but I don’t want to kill the golden cow 🐮. At any rate, I would get the most basic and cheapest plan if I had to get it.

Plus it would be a heck of a lot easier than using the USB cable 🔌 to transfer files 📂 between my phone 📲 and the laptop 💻 whenever I need a file between the two. It works but it’s kind of cumbersome to say the least. Plus then I could build smart 🧠 devices using microprocessors to pull data from the internet. On the other hand, I would miss my walks to the library and the park 🏞 to get podcasts and other files.

I am working on a new chart 📊 uploader for the blog that will allow me to directly upload CSV files saved from Open Office or Microsoft Excel and use them as graphs on the blog. That means I can create new graphs directly from my phone or any other computer 🖥 I may be on.

Those Kinzua and Allegheny Reservoir aerial photos 🗺 I’ve been going through are quite interesting, I am going to do some more work on them and eventually post some historical comparisons. 📚 Neat stuff.

Today will have a chance of rain and snow before 10am, then a chance of rain between 10am and 5pm, then a slight chance of rain and snow after 5pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a high of 42 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 29th. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 1928. 2.8 inches of snow fell back in 1992.❄

Today I decided to do the virtual meeting route from the library 💻 rather than go downtown in part because I feel a bit congested in my nose. 👃🏻 I’m sure it’s just allergies now that windows are closed but everybody else will believe it’s the Corona 👾 even though I haven’t been drinking 🍻 at all lately and have been mostly anti-social. 🗣️

Solar noon 🌞 is at 11:41 am with sun having an altitude of 28.3° from the due south horizon (-42.6° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 3:49 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (237°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (245°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:32 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 13 seconds with dusk around 5:01 pm, which is 50 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon in the southwest (218°) at an altitude of 13° from the horizon, 231,656 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 5:37 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 39 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 40 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 4 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 23 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 10th. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 10 occurred back in 1972.

Tomorrow is going to be bitterly cold ❄. I am not prepared for winter ☃️ but I have to admit that for the morning walk and evening walk 🧣I wore my heavy Carhartt. I will have to leave the heat turned up tonight before bed so things don’t get too cold by mid night.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 53. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 55. Typical average high for the weekend is 46 degrees.

This weekend I will probably stay in town, 🏡 just because next weekend after Thanksgiving I might do a three day Buy Nothing Weekend trip to the Adirondacks. Sure I could probably work remotely from the library on that following in Speculator but the sun sets early this time of year. And I don’t want to drive home from the Adirondacks during the rut in the darkness.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until December 🎄 when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2019, we had snow and temperatures between 28 and 17 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1934.

 Morning At Camp

November 16, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Two weeks to Cyber Monday 🛍️ and Beaver Moon 🌕. Partly sunny and 46 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a southwest breeze at 10 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 3 am. ☃️

Remarkably mild out there this morning as the clouds push out from last night’s rain ☔. Blustery though with the wind. 🍃 But it should be a relatively nice day. I turned on the heat last night and it is nice and comfortable at home.

This morning I have to drop my truck off for the state inspection. 🔎 Hopefully that will go fine and I can pick it up at lunch time. Good excuse for for a walk and some exercise. 🚶🏻I was told they still don’t have stickers but are hopeful that they will have them by lunch time. I also need to get my registration sticker on the truck.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 46 degrees at 6am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 20th. West wind 10 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 2006. 3.4 inches of snow fell back in 2002.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 11:41 am with sun having an altitude of 28.5° from the due south horizon (-42.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 3:50 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (238°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (245°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:33 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 12 seconds with dusk around 5:02 pm, which is 52 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon in the southwest (231°) at an altitude of 7° from the horizon, 229,476 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 5:38 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 44 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 42 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 7 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow after 4am. Partly cloudy 🌨, with a low of 32 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 15th. West wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 17 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 1972.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 52. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 54. Typical average high for the weekend is 46 degrees.

Other forecasts aren’t so optimistic – they are suggesting more clouds ⛅ so I’m not planning anything until after Thanksgiving. I would like to do one more weekend trip before winter and it seems like for now the snow 🌨 is likely going to be held off by warm weather.

I am starting to research home internet options 💻 as I’m thinking this winter may be a lot of remote work and with the library closed I don’t think it will be practical to work from my truck in January. I am thinking I might be able to get a cheaper phone plan if I don’t need as much data and it would kind of nice to get files 📂 and stuff I need without having to walk down to the library all of the time.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Cyber Monday 🛍️ and Beaver Moon 🎑 when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 33 and 19 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1933.
