Colder than I expected last night, โ„ I woke up in the middle of the night and decided that I should turn up the heat as it was frigid in bed. Ended up waking up in the middle of the night ๐ŸŒƒ and staying awake for a few hours before falling asleep for a few more hours.

Yesterday was another kind of boring day ๐Ÿ˜ด and I walked out to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ for a few hours. The bluebirds I saw along the lake were quite beautiful. It was a nice walk but by the time I got home, listened to the news ๐Ÿ“ฐ and had dinner I ended up putting some podcasts on and retiring for the day.

At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 48 degrees. Breezy, 16 mph breeze โ›… from the south-southeast with gusts up to 30mph. Today will have 9 hours and 44 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 8 seconds over yesterday.

November 13, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ! Happy Friday the 13th in two ought two ough. ๐Ÿ‘น Ain’t that a cheery thought. Two weeks to Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ. Clouds and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜๏ธ Calm wind. The air smells like barnyard ๐Ÿฎ and wood smoke ๐Ÿ”ฅ on my morning walk. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 9 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Listening to Cat Stevens ๐Ÿ™€ and out for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป on this very gray November morning. The days are short and getting increasingly cold and it looks like it won’t be long before we get rain. Just November. Feeling a bit stiff and miserable but it’s the weather and the probably residual Lyme disease or spending too much time in my uncomfortable chair working from home.

Yesterday was kind of dull and cloudy day, โ˜๏ธ with a few work calls ๐Ÿ“ž but very quiet. I played a lot with the COVID-19 data and explored some new ideas I had for making maps. While my phone doesn’t work as a hot spot, I discovered that I can use it both to upload and download data via the USB cable. ๐Ÿ”Œ I probably should go library to work today and save some data on my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ but the weather isn’t particularly nice. I saw the library now has hotspots you can borrow but I don’t know, I kind of like having limited internet access at home.

Today will have light rain before noon, then rain likely between noon and 4pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 43 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 27th. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. The record high of 69 was set in 1964. 6.0 inches of snow fell back in 1886.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:41 am with sun having an altitude of 29.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-41.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:54 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (239ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (246ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:36 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 11 seconds with dusk around 5:04 pm, which is 58 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:40 pm. The record high of 70 was set in 1973. 14.4 inches of snow fell back in 1972.โ„

Going to be kind of cold โ„ and blustery for my walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป out to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿธ but I like it so I’ll probably do it tomorrow. I expect Sunday’s weather to be worse. I do need to get there early because now the sun set is early and even with the blaze orange it’s not safe walking ๐Ÿš˜ on the narrow shoulders of Delaware Avenue.

Looking ahead to Sunday, a slight chance of rain and snow before 10am, then rain likely. โ˜” Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49. South wind 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 49 degrees.

On Sunday it will be another stay at home day, ๐Ÿก except maybe for going out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. ๐Ÿฒ I should figure out some other projects to work on too.

Sunrise at the Campsite

November 10, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Average High is 50 ๐Ÿ‚! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Fake news, in a few hours it will be 70 degrees. Three weeks to December. ๐ŸŽ„ Mostly sunny โ˜€ and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

A nice sunny โ˜€ morning. Out for my morning walk, enjoying the sunshine. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป I wish all days would be this nice but so be it. Unfortunately Tuesday is meeting day, so I will be going downtown later ๐Ÿš for my sexual harassment training among other things. The air has a tinge of manure ๐Ÿ’ฉ and wood smoke โ˜๏ธon it from the farm down the street wood furnace. To be expected in November. I do miss the pungent and sweet smell ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿป of the silage in Madison County. ๐Ÿฎ

I need to run to the store to get more milk ๐Ÿฅ›. I had enough for my first cup of coffee โ˜• but I think I’ll want more for later on. I got groceries yesterday on my way to John Wolcott’s house for more history filming. ๐Ÿ“ผ I told him I might come over after work today assuming that I get done at a reasonable hour. ๐Ÿ•’

I bought a mid sized bottle of hand sanitizer ๐Ÿ–๐Ÿปat Wally World. While I normally use prefer just soap and water ๐Ÿ’ฆ hand sanitizer is good while camping and after shopping ๐Ÿ›’ should the pandemic get out of control again and you have to be afraid of touching shit. Last week I went to buy hand sanitizer and actually bought liquid soap. But I’m using that for washing dishes ๐Ÿด and while camping. I don’t use biodegrade soap, it’s not hurting anything if you dispose waste water away from the creeks. No different than burning the plastic bottles. โ™ป

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 70 degrees at 2pm. 20 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 22nd. When there is no hope, there is a warm November day. Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:40 am with sun having an altitude of 30.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-40.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. Yeah, I know how to use the math weather. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:57 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (240ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (247ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:39 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 9 seconds with dusk around 5:07 pm, which is one minute and 3 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:42 pm. The record low of 15 occurred back in 1956.

The weekend is about what you can expect for mid November. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, sunny, with a high near 48. Sunday, a chance of rain and snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 49. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Typical average high for the weekend is 49 degrees.

Saturday I’m heading out to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ I think. Just a walk out there. Sunday doesn’t look really nice but I’ll go out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. ๐Ÿฒ I am going to see if I can download some GIS data to work on projects or get out my soldering iron.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until December ๐ŸŽ„ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2019, we had snow and temperatures between 28 and 17 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1934.

Very Winter Looking Campsite Along East Canada Creek

November 3, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ! I will probably vote after work, although I brought my absentee ballot with me in case I get stuck at work late and I’ll find a downtown polling place to drop it off at. Honestly, I’m pretty indifferent about this election with yesterday’s men running on the top of the ticket but I probably should vote before 9 pm tonight. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ I just wish there was more people of my generation running for president, not geriatric throw backs to the era of the vacuum tube.

Thirteen weeks until Ground Hog Day. ๐Ÿป Next Tuesday the Average High is 50. ๓  ฎ Partly cloudy and 36 degrees on the CDTA Route 18 heading down into the city. โ›… Tuesday is meeting day downtown. ๐Ÿข Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the northwest ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 28 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. Well while the weather may be cold โ„ today, the weekend looks really nice. โ›บ I’m thinking about heading out to Central NY for a few days but my plans are far from certain. I could also decide on the Adirondacks. Not sure yet. ๐Ÿค”

I wish they did the postage paid envelopes, I heard and posted earlier about on the blog how the legislature is looking at it.

While really none of the elections locally are competive, I did pull the lever for Jo Jergenson the libertarian ๐Ÿ—ฝ for president. I don’t really have a strong ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป opinion about her but I didn’t really like either the Trumpster or Biden This Time. If the election was competive locally I’d consider Biden but I also think there are certainly benefits to having Trump in the White House with Congress being democratic. ๐Ÿค” Checks and balances. โš–
