January 27, 2021 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? A Snowy Hump Day, of course. ๐Ÿช I wonder if you can make ice cream with camel milk? I guess you probably can. ๐Ÿจ Three weeks to 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ . Snow and 27 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ Calm wind. Picked up a few inches last night – now there are 4 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 1 pm. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Kind of a pretty morning after the snow storm, ๐ŸŒจ which really wasn’t much of a big deal – maybe 3 or 4 inches we got last night although it’s expected to stay around with the cold. ๐Ÿ˜ด I was feeling a bit congested last night, so I ended up taking some antihistamine and falling asleep around 5 AM until the morning. I made a big pan of Marconi and Cheese last night so I’m not real hungry this morning, so just some coffee โ˜• and English muffins before the morning walk in the winter wonderland. If it only would clear out now… at least I heard the sidewalk snowplow go by so that should be clear by the time I do my walk. Listening to Simon and Garfunkel’s I am a Rock, as I look out the window at the falling snow, getting ready for my walk. ๐Ÿšถ

Yesterday, was a pretty quiet day. ๐Ÿค” I felt kind of sick and stuffy for part of the day, but it was mostly just emails and watching session on my phone. I got so chilled through by the middle of the day, so I ended up spending too much of the day sitting by the heater. I turned the downstairs heat up a few degrees last night before bed so it’s pretty comfortable today, and I’m feeling better. I’m just ready for winter to be other. I misplaced my tax reforms yesterday, and was looking for them, and found my 2008 tax form. I make a lot more money then I did 12 years ago, although money feels just as tight if not tighter because everything has gotten more expensive.

Today will snow, mainly before 10am, then a chance of snow showers after noon. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 33 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 11th. Light northwest wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1974. 9.3 inches of snow fell back in 1963.โ„

I have a mid-day virtual meeting today, ๐Ÿ’ผ but I wasn’t seriously considering going shopping at lunch time today. I’ll probably do Thursday at lunchtime to buy groceries then go to the library briefly, as there will be sun but I expect it to be cold. There are a few files I want to grab while I’m down at the library, including resyncing the blog and some GIS data for future mapping projects. ๐Ÿ—บThe sun will be nice come tomorrow but it will be cold and get even colder as Friday rolls around. ๐ŸŒฌ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 29ยฐ from the due south horizon (-41.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. With the clouds, not much for shadows today. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:21 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (238ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (246ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:03 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 11 seconds with dusk around 5:32 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Wolf Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east-northeast (73ยฐ) at an altitude of 18ยฐ from the horizon, 241,096 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:07 pm. At sunset, look for snow ๐ŸŒจ and temperatures around 32 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 9 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 51 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 14 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before 10pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 20 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 25th. Maximum wind chill around 9 at 6am; Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2020, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of -16 occurred back in 2005.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 11 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Saturday, sunny, with a high near 17. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 24. Typical average high for the weekend is 31 degrees. It’s going to be pretty cold this weekend. This weekend though it doesn’t look like it’s going to be particularly breezy, so I’d like to get outside and do something fun, maybe not super far from home so I don’t end up burning that much gas.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 52 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ Friday, my birthday will mark 50 days until spring. It’s kind of fun counting down the days, as it makes it seem like the days are going by quicker.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Clean Your Computer Day ๐Ÿงน when the sun will be setting at 5:21 pm with dusk at 5:50 pm. It took forever to get Winders cleaned up on my laptop, but it seems to work good now. Never did get Virtual Box working though, so I’m thinking of removing that. On that day in 2020, we had snow showers, cloudy, mild and temperatures between 41 and 32 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1955.

January 26, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. ๐Ÿ˜€ Not a Friday, but if I look at the calendar, it can’t be that far away. Ready for some nuisance snow this evening? But maybe there is hope. Probably not though, he’s going to see his shadow based on the forecast. Next Tuesday is Ground Hog Day ๐Ÿป . Mostly cloudy and 19 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒค Calm wind. There are 0.5 inches of snow on the ground but more is coming. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThe skies will clear Thursday around 10 am. And be cold!

Sunny and decently warm for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป. I was kind of groggy this morning but I put some English muffins in the oven and had my coffee โ˜•. Feeling better now I am out for my morning walk. Running a little late today but it will be fine. Things will get done and I have my phone.

Still kind of devastated at some level about the death of Mr Frantz my High School social studies and history teacher. ๐Ÿ˜ข Seventy one seems pretty young to die, although I guess it is are living through a pandemic and only the good die young. ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿซ Been two decades though since I last saw him and I guess time moves on. I always thought he was a lot older for sure. He was such a good teacher and so influential on who I became.

Landlord and the plumber came by later in the afternoon, ๐Ÿ”ง and with some grinding, acetylene torches setting off the smoke detector, and other distractions while I worked in my virtual office, things got fixed. Apparently the old water heater had been leaking for some time, and the leaking water in the overflow drain pipe had frozen which caused it it to overflow and fall into my living room. The landlord the past two times had gotten these really cheap Whirlpool heaters, but finally got a better quality one or so the plumber told me. At least I was happy that wasn’t that big of a deal and got fixed. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Today will snow, mainly after 2pm. ๐ŸŒจ High of 28 degrees at 1pm. Three degrees below normal. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. A year ago, we had light drizzle in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1950. 8.5 inches of snow fell back in 1949.โ„

Yesterday would have been a good day to go down to the library ๐Ÿ“š with the free unlimited internet because snow ๐ŸŒจ this afternoon and much colder the second half of the week. The sun โ˜€ is nice today but I don’t expect it to last long with snow coming. I guess it’s fine, I had backed up my blog on Thursday. If there is a video I want to watch I can do it on my phone. Used a bit more Hotspot data than I would have hoped yesterday scrolling ๐Ÿ“œ through Twitter while the plumber was there. I’m glad though that I got the issues fixed with the corrupt SSH keys yesterday so I can do all the necessary things on the blog.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 28.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-42.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:19 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (238ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (245ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:01 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 12 seconds with dusk around 5:31 pm, which is one minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east (80ยฐ) at an altitude of 28ยฐ from the horizon, 243,960 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:06 pm. At sunset, look for snow ๐ŸŒจ and temperatures around 28 degrees. There will be a east-southeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 46 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 9 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will snow. ๐ŸŒจ Low of 26 degrees at 12am. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 14th. East wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. In 2020, we had light drizzle in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 35 degrees. The record low of -23 occurred back in 1994.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 10 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Saturday, sunny, with a high near 18. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 24. Typical average high for the weekend is 31 degrees.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 53 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ I count the days down each day. For whatever you think of the winter, the sun angle is getting stronger and days will get warmer. The sun is shining and it’s much nicer than even a few weeks ago. We are actively beyond the coldest time of the year now.

As previously noted, next Tuesday is Ground Hog Day ๐Ÿป when the sun will be setting at 5:10 pm with dusk at 5:40 pm. On that day in 2020, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 37 and 28 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 32 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1981.

Bridge Evening

January 25, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy 5 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ ! Next Monday is February ๐ŸŒง . Mostly sunny and 17 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธ

Last night my apartment flooded again. Yet, another water heater melted down, starting to leak water out of the top again. Called the landlord, and he says he’s going to have the plumber install another heater tomorrow. ๐Ÿ’ฆ This time for some reason the catch pan didn’t empty out the leak and it poured all over the floor of the closet, into my bedroom and through the living room ceiling downstairs, but so be it. Third water-heater this unit has gone through since I moved in December 2007. ๐Ÿ™„Kind of annoying, but it’s more my landlords problem then mine, bar the extra cleaning and mopping up of the wet dirty stuff from the melt down. It’s annoying that it’s one issue after another with the plumbing here, but at least he’s good at getting things fixed. ๐Ÿšฝ I wish he would just buy a good quality heater, so I wouldn’t be dealing with this issue every five years, especially when things flood. Last time they didn’t but I’m guessing the drain pan hose iced up in the cold.

To be fair, my apartment is quite affordable ๐Ÿ˜ as it’s been the same place I’ve been sent back in the day when I was making $27.5k at my first job out of college. Today, I make quite a bit more and my rent has not increased much over the years. Of course the fact that the landlord keeps having to replace the waterheater suggests at some point rent will be going up again. I like my apartment and it’s location, but I guess you get what you pay for these days. And it’s good that it gave me a long needed cleaning and straightening up my bedroom.๐Ÿ› Too often things just kind of got piled up around, things that I thought I might use some time in the future but probably should have long ago been chucked in the recycling bin or trash like old magazines. Dust doesn’t get cleaned off, books fall out of book shelves, you name it, it happens. ๐Ÿ“šThat’s kind of why I eventually want to own a tiny home, so if it’s not immediately being used and is kind of marginal in usefulness, it goes out to out the burn barrel for a very fiery form of disposal. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

I was also having blog problems, โœ due to a software update under Linux which seems to have broken the SSH connections everywhere on the system. I am looking into it further on my end but it only really effects a few things I use regularly, including syncing the website to local database. ๐Ÿ”„ The techs got part of it working again, but I’m still trying to figure out what I broke on my end. Not sure at all – I think either a certificate layer or broken protocol software. ๐Ÿ”ข When I get to the library later in the week, I’ll run apt and update the software, and hopefully that will fix things. I only don’t have synced things from the past few days.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 29 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees below normal. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became rain by afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1938. 9.5 inches of snow fell back in 2000.โ„

It’s going to be a cold day today, but sunny. ๐ŸŒž While I did my evening walk, I skipped the morning walk as I was still cleaning up from yesterday’s mess. I really should done more to clean up earlier on – like get the old ripped clothing to the recycling center โ™ป and put all my summer clothing away so I could put my winter clothing in the dresser, but it’s now done. I also cleaned up and organized the crawl space, because I wanted to make sure none of my other clothing or camping gear would be sitting in a puddle of water for the rest of the winter. ๐Ÿ‘• It’s good though come the spring, it will be easier to get out the things I need.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 28.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-42.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:18 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (238ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (245ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:00 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 13 seconds with dusk around 5:30 pm, which is one minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east (88ยฐ) at an altitude of 37ยฐ from the horizon, 246,581 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:05 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 28 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 44 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 7 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 17 degrees at 3am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 11th. Calm wind. In 2020, we had light rain in the evening, which became light drizzle by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of -17 occurred back in 1920.

Sunny but cold Saturday, snow possible for Sunday. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 22. ๐ŸŒž Sunday, a chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 29. โ›…Chance of precipitation is 30%. โ„ Typical average high for the weekend is 31 degrees.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 54 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ I can’t wait until it’s warm enough to have the windows open and some fresh air. While that doesn’t happen all of the time in March, sometimes it can get fairly warm and nice. I am really looking forward to spending more nights in the woods. I can do winter camping, but I like it when the time changes and the weather is much nicer in the spring.

As previously noted, next Monday is February ๐ŸŒง when the sun will be setting at 5:09 pm with dusk at 5:38 pm. I am glad, this month seems like it has dragged on forever, and it’s been so controversial with so many angry people everywhere. Hopefully with a professional in the White House, the vaccine will roll out much more smoothly, and we can get back to normal life. ๐Ÿ˜ƒOn that day in 2020, we had snow showers, cloudy, mild and temperatures between 40 and 32 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 32 degrees. We hit a record high of 65 back in 1989.

Rural Poverty

January 24, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Cold Sunday. โ›ช The radio wants you to know it’s cold, so it must be cold. Or so I was told. ๐Ÿ“ป That said the swaying tree branches under the deep blue skies and occasional gusts of wind make it seem cold. โ„ Three weeks to Valentines Day โค๏ธ . Sunny and 11 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the west-northwest ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 28 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The current wind chill is -5. Your car don’t care about the windchill, although I guess it does take more heat away from the engine making it less energy efficient. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธ

I did not go for any walks yesterday. ๐ŸšถI guess that’s a mistake that I do not regret. It was pretty cold out or so it looked out the window, although it seemed like by evening, the wind died down. Although I don’t know sometimes the wind was pretty quite but there was some massive gusts. Fortunately though, we didn’t loose power were I live at least. It would kind of suck in my dumpy apartment that normally is cold and only would be colder without heat.โ™จ It does work pretty good lately but I don’t keep it cranked up real high.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 23 degrees at 1pm. Eight degrees below normal. Northwest wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 54 was set in 1999. 7.6 inches of snow fell back in 1948.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 28.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-42.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:16 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (237ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (245ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:59 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 13 seconds with dusk around 5:29 pm, which is one minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the east (98ยฐ) at an altitude of 44ยฐ from the horizon, 248,823 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:04 pm. At sunset, look for partly sunny skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 23 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 12. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Breezy, 17 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 30mph. Today will have 9 hours and 42 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 5 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 12 degrees at 5am. Two degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 10 at 6pm; Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light after midnight. In 2020, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of -12 occurred back in 1963.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 55 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Valentines Day โค๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 5:26 pm with dusk at 5:55 pm. On that day in 2020, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 36 and 7 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 34 degrees. We hit a record high of 63 back in 1946.

Power Lines

January 23, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ It’s the bleak of winter. Five weeks to Snow Moon ๐ŸŒ• . Partly clear and 21 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ There is a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ with gusts up to 23 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The current wind chill is 8. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธI am trying to imagine it not being real cold outside, but that’s hard to imagine with the wind whipping around. The skies are blue but there is a pretty steady breeze. The sun is still struggling to reach the horizon.

While I posted probably too much yesterday, ๐Ÿ“œ I saved some good posts for today that I think you will find interesting. I am trying to clean up and fix some outdated parts of the blog, taking full utilization of additional capacities of LeafletJS and web mapping services. I also played around with some 3D mapping, in part because I have bandwidth to burn through by Sunday. Apparently I was too careful with bandwidth over the month, and I’m going to end up throwing away some of it on my hotspot come the end of the 30 day period. Hard to believe that 30 days have come and gone since Christmas when my old plan expired.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 22 degrees at 12pm. Not much movement on the mercury today. Nine degrees below normal. Blustery, with a northwest wind 13 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 1906. 10.6 inches of snow fell back in 1963.โ„

At one level I want to go for a walk out to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆbut on the other hand it looks super cold with that wind. Maybe I should bundle up and not be a sissy and go out. I think my winter hat is still in my truck so it’s frigid, so I probably should get that and warm it up before I go out for my walk. The sun will certainly help.๐ŸŒž But first I want to take a shower and get cleaned up.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 28ยฐ from the due south horizon (-42.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:15 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (237ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (244ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:58 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 14 seconds with dusk around 5:27 pm, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the east-southeast (111ยฐ) at an altitude of 51ยฐ from the horizon, 250,570 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:03 pm. At sunset, look for partly sunny skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 21 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 5. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Breezy, 21 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 37mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 42 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 5 seconds over today.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 10 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -7 at 5am; Northwest wind 15 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. In 2020, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 18 degrees. The record low of -17 occurred back in 1948. I turned up the heat last night before bed so it’s pretty comfortable but with the wind and lower temperatures, hard to know if it will keep up. Been better the past few years, although maybe that has a lot to do with the fact I keep it a bit warmer in my apartment then in years past. But also the heater is working better.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 8 weeks remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ 9 week left, 9 week left, take one down, pass it around, 8 weeks to spring left. Before you know it will be here, but stay warm for now.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Save the Pine Bush Turns 43 ๐Ÿฆ‹ when the sun will be setting at 5:15 pm with dusk at 5:45 pm. On that day in 2020, we had freezing rain and temperatures between 33 and 27 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 55 back in 1991.

Shivering Sun

January 20, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Inauguration Day ๐Ÿ‘ด ! Unless of course you supported the other guy. But it’s Biden this Time, and if you don’t like that just wait 4 to 8 years. Maybe he’ll legalize pot, so we can be one toke over the line legally. ๐Ÿšฌ Four weeks to 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ . Snow flurries and 25 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ Calm wind. There is a fresh dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 2 pm as it’s going to be cold and breezy especially by the afternoon. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

With the sun โ˜€ breaking through the clouds and snow flurries and not super cold it’s hard to complain about the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป. I got milk ๐Ÿฅ› yesterday and I had a good breakfast of eggs ๐Ÿณ with ham and peppers. ๐Ÿš™ Traffic is very light today, I wonder if even more people are working from home today to avoid protest delays. Air kind of has the taste of barnyard as I walk past the Sunnyside Farm. ๐Ÿ„

Yesterday wasn’t too bad day, I ended up working down at the library ๐Ÿ“š for a good part of the day because it wasn’t that cold and there was enough sun for the solar. ๐Ÿ’ป I finally got all the system updates installed on M$ Winders 10, and got my request form in for the VPN. ๐Ÿ“ก๐Ÿ“ถ That should make people happy, and it will mean fewer trips on the bus ๐ŸšŒ or asking colleagues to get files off the server. ๐Ÿ—„It took forever to load those updates. Linux is so much faster at upgrading, although granted it can be a pain too if you have to upgrade through multiple versions that break the C library requiring reboots to keep programs from acting really odd when symbol tables don’t match up. ๐Ÿ”ก I’m sure that is what some of those delays were, but it also seems like Windows updates are particularly slow. ๐Ÿข You know, I prefer to Linux. ๐Ÿง But I should have a secure, reliable Winders box when I need that for work. โน I also watched the Gubernators’ State of Budget Address, ๐ŸŽ™ worked on some 3D maps for the blog ๐Ÿ—บ and a few tweaks to the campsite map that I made up.๐Ÿ• Did my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป

Today will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before noon. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 31 degrees at 12pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around January 23rd. Light southwest wind becoming northwest 12 to 17 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 22 degrees. The record high of 53 was set in 2006. 10.4 inches of snow fell back in 2019.โ„

I haven’t decided if I will listen ๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿป to the new president’s speech today, although I listened to the BBC and Morning Edition ๐Ÿ“ป for a while so I have an idea of what the political class is talking about today. Honestly, I think following politics too closely is unhealthy for your mental health. ๐Ÿคช I’d rather operate on a need to know basis and catch the recap on NPR.org or the hourly news bulletin on the radio. Session is at the same time so I might be too busy.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 27.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-43.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:11 pm with the sun in the southwest (236ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (243ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:54 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 16 seconds with dusk around 5:24 pm, which is one minute and 14 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the south-southeast (166ยฐ) at an altitude of 55ยฐ from the horizon, 252,091 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:59 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 26 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 13. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Breezy, 17 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 30mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 58 seconds over today.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 12 degrees at 12am. Two degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 8 at 8pm; Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light and variable. Honestly, not that bad all things considered. In 2020, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 7 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1994.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 9 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 22. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 22. Typical average high for the weekend is 31 degrees. It seems like some of the winter weather, which so far has been retarded, it going to started to push into the area. Cool but not that unusually cold for January. I certainly remember much cold January days and certainly February might be colder. But let’s hope not, I don’t like paying a shit ton for heat, โ™จ especially while working from home.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 59 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ That’s one less then sixty. One day closer. Countdown in process. It seems like 4 years of the Trumpster came and went in the blink of the eye, ๐Ÿ‘ so maybe it means that summer and the black flies will be with us, at least after all the mud, muck and slop everywhere. I can already smell pungent Madison County ๐Ÿฎ and doing some good ol’ trout fishing ๐ŸŽฃ come April 1st. Which is a Thursday this year.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Clean Your Computer Day ๐Ÿงน when the sun will be setting at 5:21 pm with dusk at 5:50 pm. On that day in 2020, we had snow showers, cloudy, mild and temperatures between 41 and 32 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1955.
