And then the weather improves ๐ŸŒค

But maybe not my breakfast. I decided to try baking apple bread, but I didn’t use enough salt and maybe oil and I ended up with a carb loaded mess that tasted like crap. Dipping in it maple syrup and salt helped but I still ended up cooking complete junk. It happens when you experiment, at least it’s whole wheat.

Good morning! Partly cloudy and 51 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a southwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 44 degrees. The skies will clear around 10 am.

So yeah, breakfast was kind of a mess with the loaf I decided to cook. ๐Ÿž Sometimes you just got to experiment I guess. Maybe it would have been better if I added some olive oil, stevia or salt. All those apples I thought would give it enough sweetness I really made a mistake leaving out all salt from the mix. ๐Ÿคฎ Kind of like dinner — I decided to make brown rice with chicken, with soy sauce but that meal needed some sugar to sweeten it up and MSG to tickle the uamani side of things. ๐Ÿš I’m so used to cooking with loads of spices that when I first tasted that rice with no spices I was shocked how bland it was. And to think ๐Ÿค” that’s how I started my healthy eating journey.

Today will have isolated showers after 10am. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 59 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 22nd. Southwest wind 7 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 80 was set in 2017.

Not sure what today’s plans are going to look like. โ›บ Seems like it would be nice enough to camp but cold. I wonder how many campsites would be taken at this point during the holiday weekend though yesterday would have been a complete soaker for camping. โ˜” I’m thinking about going to the Green Mountains โ›ฐ though that’s an awful long trip for one night ๐ŸŒƒ that might be super cold. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ The forecast has improved but it’s going to be still quite windy and cold. But then again it’s Columbus Day Weekend. โ›ต That said, who knows how much longer there will be much color after the heavy rain and now the wind.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:44 pm with sun having an altitude of 41.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-29.2ยฐ vs. V6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.8 footl shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:49 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (256ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (263ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:27 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 6:53 pm, which is one minute and 42 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:28 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 56 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Got the new bike ๐Ÿšฒ light ๐Ÿ”ฆ installed on my bicycle yesterday and it’s quite bright ๐Ÿ”† from my initial before dawn testing this morning. I’m hoping if I get out today to camp I can do some night riding and see how great it really is. I love how it has USB charging built in and I can just plug in both the front and back lights for a charge while I’m home or at camp. No need to worry about batteries. ๐Ÿ”‹

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 40 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 18th. South wind 7 to 9 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 2001.

Might be a decent night ๐ŸŒƒ for camping ๐Ÿ•. As who knows about next week. I keep refreshing the forecast for Thomas WV and aren’t really sure what to think ๐Ÿค” about it. Still looks very cold and wet in the long range but things could change for sure.

I Guess Columbus Day Weekend Isn’t a Complete Washout ๐ŸŒง ๐Ÿค›๐Ÿป โ›ต ๐Ÿ‚

Totally bummed out about this weekend, but maybe I shouldn’t be. It didn’t rain until quite late into the night and this morning the rain has slackened up quite a bit. Maybe it will be nice enough to go for a bike ride to Voorheesville or Five Rivers — and it might be pretty to check out the Pine Hollow Arboretum which amazingly enough I’ve never been there. Almost rain free-enough to make me wish I had headed out of town to get camping. Maybe tomorrow but it’s likely going to be cold and windy, and probably still damp. We’ll see come the morning, I got to start working on packing and thinking about West Virginia sooner rather then later.

Good morning! Happy Saturday on this rather Rainy Start to Columbus Day Weekend! Rain showers, at least a few drops of rain here and there and 65 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 63 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 10 am.

I slept in until 5:50 AM when my alarm went off โฐ got up and make oatmeal-banana pancakes to start off my morning. ๐Ÿ˜ต Lots of coffee โ˜• so I waited a while before heading out in case I had to piss up a storm, and ended up deciding bicycling was a safer option lest I needed to pee ๐Ÿšฝ or the sky opened up with rain. โ˜”

Today will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm. โ›ˆ Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Temperature falling to around 57 by 5pm. Southeast wind 7 to 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible. Yeah, even though it’s not raining right now, I’m glad I’m not camping in that kind of crap. That’s a lot of rain. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 71 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1963.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:44 pm with sun having an altitude of 42° from the due south horizon (-28.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:51 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (257°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (263°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:28 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 6:55 pm, which is one minute and 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:29 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 56 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 11 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over today.

Tonight will have showers, mainly before 1am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 47 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 3rd. Northwest wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 38 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1964.

For tomorrow, Sunday, things may improve. โ›… A slight chance of showers before 8am, then a slight chance of showers after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 59. Southwest wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. That wind will make it cool but maybe I should plan to do some biking and camping out of town. ๐Ÿ• I heard there is some pretty good color in the Catskills. And for Columbus Day, cool but mostly sunny, with a high near 59. South wind around 9 mph. That does seem like an improvement over earlier forecasts. ๐Ÿ˜€ My parents are out of town this weekend, so I won’t be visiting them this weekend, so I am kind of free to do whatever I want this weekend both days and I don’t have to rush home. I have enough clothes for the upcoming week for work, as it’s going to be cool and I wore t-shirt and shorts all last week, including the day I was off. ๐Ÿ‘– I will have to go to the laundromat later in the week though before I head down to West Virginia. Assuming that’s where I end up — if it looks truly cold and wet for the following week I could change my plans to be closer to home, but regardless I plan to camp for the full week. ๐Ÿคท‍โ™‚๏ธ

I am watching the forecast for both here in Delmar, Wellsboro Penna and Thomas WV, ๐ŸŒง and I’m not pleased with how much rain I’m seeing, though 7 days out it really is just a crap shoot. The rain numbers are quite meaningless at this point as so much could change. If it rains on my drive down to WV it’s not the end of the world, I don’t need to take a million different side trips. I’ll skip the Pine Creek Rail Trail ๐Ÿš‚ and the C-O Canal Trail ๐Ÿšฒ until later in the week or not at all, and mostly just drive down, and hunker down at camp. ๐Ÿš˜ Once I’m in West Virginia once camp’s set up the rain is less of an issue. Indeed, the 8-14 day outlook suggests especially in West Virginia in the mid-Atlantic states it might be a fairly dry week but cool. ๐Ÿ˜Ž I’ll take that as long as there isn’t snow. โ„๏ธ

I will be bringing my heater, and can hot tent if it’s really cold up in Canaan Heights but I want to have sunny days for hiking and bicycling, plus it makes the scenery better. โ™จ๏ธ โ›บ I hear they’re getting their first likely frost in the high country this weekend, so by next weekend it should still be close to peak color, without the crowds of Columbus Day Weekend. ๐Ÿ‘ช There is a reason I waited to later this year, plus it seems like autumn is occurring each year a bit later — and the High Country of West Virginia is more like the Hilltowns climate-wise then the mountains of New York due to the more southerly location.

I found my West Virginia maps including the Monongahela National Forest ๐Ÿ—บ along with the Pine Creek Rail Trail and several other Pennsylvania State Parks I may want to visit on the way down assuming it’s not raining. I am going to print up at work a few small scale maps of Canaan Heights and some other trails in the Otter Creek and Dolly Sods Wilderness at work, ๐Ÿ–จ assuming I can find a printer that still works in the office, lol. ๐Ÿคฃ No-ones going to care if I print up like four pages, assuming that the machine still works as nobody prints much anymore work-related. Then it’s just clothes and supplies to pack for camping. I will bring a fair amount of food with me, but only one cooler as it will be cool enough that most fruits and vegetables don’t need cooling, and I don’t eat nearly as much meat and dairy as I once did. ๐Ÿฅฉ ๐Ÿฅ› I’m not a vegetarian but healthier, whole foods that are low on saturated fats really don’t need as much refrigeration.

The past few days I’ve been getting a ton of blog traffic ๐Ÿ—บ ๐Ÿค– I think with people looking for places to camp and hike for the Columbus Day Weekend. One day I pulled in over $10 in ad revenue, and I’m in the low-$30s of what I’ve pulled in over the past week and a half of running ads. I think I will be close to $70 by the end of month, and while I won’t get paid until I rack up $100 in revenue, I think by December 1st I’ll probably be getting my first check ๐Ÿ’ฐ which could easily be above $130 by my own estimates, though it depends how much demand drops for my blog as the winter season approaches. โ˜ƒ Traffic usually drops fairly low in December and January. Maybe I need to do more maps relating to skiing and snowmobiling or winter camping locations. ๐Ÿ• But it will pick up again come April and May, having looked at my old web logs. It’s good because the $540 check to the web host goes out tomorrow for the next three years. Hopefully, within a year I’ll made enough from blog ads to be made whole, all while enjoying telling my story.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Daylight Savings Time Ends ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 5:46 pm with dusk at 6:14 pm. On that day in 2022, we had sunny, warm and temperatures between 71 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 76 back in 1994.

Catskills

Caught my first mouse of the year ๐Ÿ

A true sign of autumn I guess along with the darkening mornings and colorful woods.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Partly cloudy and 58 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… Calm wind. The dew point is 57 degrees.

Out for a somewhat muddy walk ๐Ÿšถ in the Swift Wetland Preserve ๐Ÿธ as I’m running a bit late and I wanted to get in some steps before showering ๐Ÿšฟ and wanted to avoid the craziness and carbon monoxide of waking around the high school at this hour. Plus the woods is pretty colorful at this point. ๐Ÿ‚Chased a doe and fawn while walking. ๐ŸฆŒ

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 80 degrees at 3pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 31st. Maximum dew point of 60 at 10am. Light south wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning. One last day of summer in October. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1941.

After a relatively quiet morning in the kitchen yesterday ๐Ÿง‘‍๐Ÿณ this morning was a little bit busier with eggs, spinach, peppers, onions, Parmesan and nutritional yeast cooking up for breakfast. I’m not a vegetarian but I like the taste of nutritional yeast — I wouldn’t call it truly cheesy but I would say it reminds of powdered Cheese-It Crackers like you might find at the end of the bag, that is minus unhealthy the salt and fat. Chipotle powder and turmeric for spices. And some hot peppers. ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ The oven had a big loaf ๐Ÿž of whole wheat bread cooking, sweet potato ๐Ÿฅ”, zucchini and butternut squash ๐Ÿ† baking then roasting after the bread was done. The stove top has chickpeas boiling down to make hummus tonight.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:45 pm with sun having an altitude of 42.7° from the due south horizon (-28.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:54 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (258°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (264°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:32 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:58 pm, which is one minute and 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:33 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 74 degrees. The dew point will be 57 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Riding in to work today, ๐Ÿšฒ which is good because it looks like I’ll only get in 3,500 steps so far this morning walking the Swift Wetland Preserve. I got a later start then usual, closer to six then five, because I usually wake up earlier but last night I didn’t. Slept good, and got a solid night’s sleep so that was good ๐Ÿ›Œ and had a time to do all the cooking needed for the day. ๐Ÿฅ˜ I got to run out to my parents house tonight, so I am going to just have a small portion of left lasagana for dinner, and maybe some of the butternut squash and sweet potato I made up earlier. The rest I’ll either freeze or save for the weekend.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 59 degrees at 4am. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 29th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 4am. South wind around 8 mph. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 42 degrees. The record low of 24 occurred back in 1965.

Columbus Day Weekend โ›ตcontinues to look wet, cold and windy. The story of the summer that was. ๐ŸคทSaturday, showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 66. Southeast wind 7 to 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible. Lol, that’s wet. ๐ŸŒง Maximum dew point of 63 at 6am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 57. Breezy. ๐ŸŒฌ Chance of precipitation is 40%. Columbus Day, a chance of showers after 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 56. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 65 degrees. Yeah, probably not the weekend to get out of town though maybe I could still do an overnight close to home if Sunday into Monday is okay. Then again my October vacation begins in a week. ๐Ÿ• ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Inside the Old Homestead

Back to work for me on the hottest day of autumn ๐Ÿ–

It’s just climate change is such a cruel joke as it’s going to be so cold and rainy come the Columbus Day Weekend. I can’t believe another shitty weekend is ahead.

Good morning! Fog ๐ŸŒซ and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 55 degrees. Makes sense. I swear I woke up and was hot in the middle of the night.

Cream of wheat with warmed shredded apples ๐Ÿ, cinnamon, ginger, Greek yogurt and chia seeds for breakfast this morning. Out for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ and then I’ll shower ๐Ÿšฟ and ride to work. ๐Ÿšฒ Also made up some rice and lentils for lunch the rest of the week.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 83 degrees at 2pm. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 13th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 12pm. Yeah that’s pretty August like with the humidity. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 60 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1891. 6.5 inches of snow fell back in 1987.โ„

Yesterday was a nice day and so will today. ๐Ÿข But alas it’s back to the office today. Yesterday I Rode 35 miles along the Albany – Hudson Electric Trail today from the hamlet of Rossman (South of Stuyvesant Falls) to Nassau including Kinderhook, Valatie, North Chatham. ๐Ÿšฒ Also visited Martin Van Buren Historical Site, the only bad part of that was riding along NY 9H which is very busy ๐Ÿš˜ and narrow in parts, and that very tangy smell of the slurry ๐Ÿฎ they’re spreading on the fields now that high moisture corn is mostly done, ๐ŸŒฝthough some are still chopping. Also visited the Lewis Sywer Preserve on the Hudson River and NY 9J which was pretty nice. ๐Ÿฆ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:45 pm with sun having an altitude of 43.1° from the due south horizon (-27.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:56 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (259°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (265°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:34 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:00 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:34 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 78 degrees. The dew point will be 65 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over today.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 59 degrees at 6am. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 29th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 6pm. South wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1965.

Cold and wet for the Columbus Day Weekend. โ˜” Saturday, showers before 8am, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 8am and 2pm, then showers after 2pm. High near 67. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Maximum dew point of 63 at 10am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny but breezy, with a high near 56. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Columbus Day mostly cloudy and breezy, maybe 55 degrees. Typical average high for the weekend is 65 degrees.

I was hoping to get out of town for the long weekend ๐Ÿ‚to enjoy the colors of autumn but with the increasingly wet weather and cold with wind I’m not sure it’s going to happen. Heck of it is the cold rain and wind will do a number on the leaves. Wanted to see some New York color before I went to Pennsylvania and ultimately West Virginia next week. I heard they may get snow in the high country of West Virigina this weekend, though not expected to last. But for this weekend, mMaybe I’ll do a one or two night overnight close to home if Saturday isn’t that wet. ๐Ÿก.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Average High is 55 ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 5:50 pm with dusk at 6:18 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny, warm, mist and temperatures between 69 and 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 1950. It’s an El Niño year, we could break it again this year.

Morning at Union Falls Pond

Today would not be a good day to be out camping ๐ŸŒง

It’s not to say that I couldn’t have set up in the rain, and probably by tomorrow it wouldn’t be so wet, but today so far has been a good soaker. Totally wouldn’t have expected it from the forecast as recent as Wednesday when I originally took off the day, but things changed yesterday and so did my plans for the weekend.

It’s not like I haven’t camped plenty in the rain, including on cold and wet autumn days. Indeed, I may get that chance to camp at least a bit in the rain in two weeks when I go down to West Virginia. Good warm meals cooked on the camp stove, huddled under the tarp by the heater and fire helps. But it doesn’t mean it’s something I warmly embrace, or seek out. I am glad I saved this vacation day for a future day, maybe next week when the weather is hopefully much nicer out.

Listening to Radio in the Rain

Rain showers change everything ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

I was going to take today off to go to the Adirondacks or Schoharie County or maybe the Green Mountains but the forecast is trending wetter then I expected. So I’m going to head into the office today to work and maybe reconsider a day off midweek next week to do something fun probably with the mountain bike.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Rain and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” Calm wind. The dew point is 51 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 1 pm.

I guess I’m having the ultimate in fad breakfasts today, probably something they would eat on the colored television … ๐Ÿฅฃ Reheated quinoa with chia seeds, topped with Greek yogurt, shredded apple with a ton of cinnamon and ginger and black coffee. โ˜• I heard it’s National Coffee Day. Black is beautiful but don’t tell the teat strippers. ๐Ÿฎ And I don’t want to drink too much, as my doctor says not to. ๐Ÿšฝ  I did rehydrate well last night. At any rate, I actually doubt people on the colored television eat such things, ๐Ÿ“บ not enough corporate profits manufacturing such things plus not enough sugar and saturated fats to keep people tossing it in their shopping carts. ๐Ÿ›’

Up and going this morning, โ˜บ with the rain I’m catching the early express downtown and will walk laps on the Plaza or the Knickerbocker Arena to get my steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ as much as possible before work. I might walk down to the library ๐Ÿ“š after work, it depends on how wet it is but I could use a good book or two to read ๐Ÿ“–. I really like getting up at five o’clock after getting to bed at nine. ๐Ÿ› Early to bed and early rise is great, especially when you have good meals cooking down on stove. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿณ Not so much this morning, as I have plenty in my fridge cooked, and I’m cutting back on calories today after a heavy day yesterday.

Expensive day – $2,300 going out of the door ๐Ÿšช today for rent, car insurance, stock – bond purchases and the Roth IRA. That’s after getting paid $1,800 this week, so my account balance will drop to a hundred or so above the minimum. ๐Ÿคฏ I will have sufficient funds but I might tap my rainy day fund before my trip to West Virginia so I can retire some credit card ๐Ÿ’ณ debt early so I have extra room on my card for emergencies. It happens occasionally to the best of us. As my checking account isn’t interest bearing these days with inflation you don’t want to keep more than a few pennies above the minimum with the bank ๐Ÿฆ.

Today will rain, mainly after 7am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 60 degrees at 3pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 19th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 4pm. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 62 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1921.

I took off yesterday to do a day trip with my parents to the Adirondacks. โ›ฐ ๐Ÿ“ธ They’re getting up in the years and walking is hard for them so we didn’t go far from the car but in parts there was some nice color ๐Ÿ‚ and I showed them around Speculator, Piseco-Powley Road then Canal Place and Moss Island in Little Falls. It was a great trip, nice to spend a day with the family ๐Ÿ‘ช as in your forties you know those days won’t last forever. I made some really good hummus to have with lunch, mom made some good cheese and turkey wraps. ๐Ÿ˜‹ Nice breeze on the lake, colors varied from good to quite muted. ๐Ÿ We had a nice picnic on the shores of Lake Pleasant in Speculator then dinner at Poncho’s Mexican ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฝ in Elsmere. It was good Mexican, the chips and food super greasy but that’s to be expected. Came home and had some edamame and butternut squash to have more fiber to tie down all those fats — with some ginger and tumerac because I like such things. ๐ŸŒฏ And no dessert. ๐Ÿ˜‹ Chose a light breakfast today. It’s fun to have some junk with friends and family, especially knowing how fast time goes by so quickly.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:47 pm with sun having an altitude of 45° from the due south horizon (-25.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:05 pm with the sun in the west (261°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (268°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:42 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:09 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waning Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon in the east (86°) at an altitude of 2° from the horizon, 229,425 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:43 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 58 degrees. The dew point will be 53 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over today.

Times of rain this evening. ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 52 degrees at 4am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 18th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 6pm. North wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1991.

The rain clears out for the Saturday. ๐Ÿ˜€ A chance of showers before 8am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 68. North wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Not as nice of a forecast then they were predicting ๐Ÿ”ฎ but not a wash out.

I was originally planning on heading out to Rennselaerville State Forest and then Burnt-Rossman or maybe the Green Mountains ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ•๏ธ before the forecast turned to rain โ˜” today. Not sure what my weekend plans are now, I’m thinking I will rattle can over the rust on Big Red on Saturday.๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ๐Ÿ›ป I could do an overnight somewhere but I have my doubts at this point. It might be better to stay closer to home, save some money, especially if I want to do some trail riding mid-week, and maybe head out of town next weekend. ๐Ÿง€ Somehow I’m very interested in that whole Little Falls Cheese festival, which cow owners tell me is a really fun event to attend. This year Piseco-Powley would likely be at peak color for Columbus Day Weekend ๐Ÿ‚ so maybe that’s where I should go. The colors weren’t bad yesterday when I was up there with the folks.

Looking ahead to Sunday the first of October, sunny, โ˜€ with a high near 75. Maximum dew point of 57 at 4pm. Wow, that sounds like a beautiful day for starting out October. Basically perfect, when you figure the typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees. ๐ŸŽƒ Next to make more meals with pumpkin, lol. That might be a good day to play around on the mountain bike trails on Wolf Hill. ๐Ÿšฒ That is if I don’t decide to do an overnight somewhere. I don’t know.

Looking ahead, there are 8 weeks until Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:27 pm with dusk at 4:57 pm (Standard Time). Day after Thanksgiving, seems so soon. ๐Ÿฆƒ If there isn’t a ton of snow, I’ll probably head up north for that day, as rifle season is waning in those days. ๐ŸฆŒ Probably camp along NY 8, if I hike it will be a more popular trail with lots of blaze orange on. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 49 and 24 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 2014.

Sun rises over Almost Heaven

Maybe some Radical Acceptance is the key to climbing the Hump Day ๐Ÿช

Kind of a pretty sunrise this morning and it should be a nice bike ride to work. I’ll close out that background I’m reviewing, call back the doctor, call the General about the airbag, move forward. It’s kind of the midpoint of everything but I’m moving forward.

Good morning! What day is it? A Day I’m Embracing, of course. Mostly clear and 52 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk. ๐ŸŒ… Calm wind. The dew point is 45 degrees.

Yes, I’m actually out walking ๐Ÿšถ this morning. The past few days I’ve been bad, though I either rode my bike to work ๐Ÿšฒ or walked the Plaza before work on Monday. Tuesday’s ride to work wasn’t bad though I think ๐Ÿค” I should lubricate the chain ๐Ÿ”— again before heading to work. Mornings are dark and there is such a short window before the smoldering cars along the road at the High School ๐Ÿšธ start. It’s just toxic and noxious to walk past all those idling cars along the road.

More fresh bread ๐Ÿž was baked this morning. Experimenting with yeast, sugar and water to get more rise and perfect ๐Ÿ‘Œ my bread. Apple oatmeal pancakes ๐Ÿฅž for breakfast this morning. Last night was salmon with sweet potatoes ๐Ÿ  and onions with lemon ๐Ÿ‹ which was tasty with mango for dessert. I’m not complaining about buying a big bag of frozen mango at the store on Monday. Eating well, but not too many calories, though I have to be careful about all those carbs in fresh-homemade bread, though no added sugar and it’s whole wheat. Getting a better rise this time. Now I got to make more walnut butter up. Okay, I’ve totally fallen off the healthy-eating rocker.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 70 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 26th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 10am. Light and variable wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1946.

To wear jeans ๐Ÿ‘– or not? That’s the question, though I only have three pair that fit me properly. That said, I can probably wear the same pair of jeans twice. Maybe though today is cooler day, so better to wear jeans today and then shorts tomorrow, with jeans again on Friday. I don’t care about the weekend, I can always wear baggy jeans or re-wear somewhat dirty ones, especially if I go camping or just take the Nature Bus ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ to ride trails up at Thacher Park.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:50 pm with sun having an altitude of 48.5° from the due south horizon (-22.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:21 pm with the sun in the west (266°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (272°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:59 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:25 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the south-southwest (212°) at an altitude of 16° from the horizon, 236,305 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:00 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 8 mph. Tomorrow will have 12 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over today.

Riding Blackie to work today, ๐Ÿšฒ it might be a cool start to the morning but should be a beautiful commute both and to and from work. I just need to dress warmly and be careful on way back with all the cars in shadows. ๐Ÿ‘ป I have to admit I can’t wait for the leaves to be off the trees ๐ŸŒฒ for better visibility on some of the intersections during the commute. But then it will likely be dark out ๐ŸŒ† and I’ll have to take the bus home in the evening, โ„๏ธ not to mention that the rail trail will get covered with snow and ice, to say nothing of it being cold to ride.

So I have a list of things to do today. ๐Ÿ“ƒ I need to call the doctor back about my blood work, though it’s hardly a priority as I’ve stopped having the pissing problem ๐Ÿšฝ once I cut back on drinking so much coffee in the morning โ˜• and are more careful about how much water is in my oatmeal and eating too much zucchini ๐Ÿ† and tomatoes ๐Ÿ…. I think that friend of mine who got my so worked up about my weight loss is a jerk. Also, no overnight oatmeal ๐Ÿฅฃ before or fresh peaches ๐Ÿ‘ during road trips anymore. Might be easy until you find yourself pissing every five minutes. Also going to call the General about when I can have the air bag inflator recall replaced on Big Red, lest I get into an accident with somebody in the passenger seat. ๐ŸŽˆ The Taka Airbag Recall is kind of serious, but I rarely have a passenger, so I didn’t really care.

Tonight will have patchy fog between 4am and 5am. Otherwise, mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 44 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 7th. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1973.

Went down to the library last night ๐Ÿ“š returned a bunch of books and looked and browsed books, but didn’t end up taking out anything. Sure gets dark out early, ๐Ÿ‘ฃ but I got my steps in. Tonight, I am thinking after a dinner of tomato and spinach wraps on homemade whole-wheat flatbread, ๐ŸŒฏ I will go for a walk ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ around dusk for my steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ and maybe start going through clothes, putting away most of my summer clothes and things that are too big to fit and getting out some of the clothes John Wolcott’s wife gifted to me, along with some other things that fit well like I got from dad. ๐Ÿ‘• I’m tired of looking like a concentration camp survivor, or having to dig through so many big clothes that don’t fit anymore.

Still chewing over the blog, โœ I mean I like doing it, but it’s a lot of money but then again it’s three years and blogging gives me a lot of pleasure.  I guess it’s not that big of a hike from three years ago, but it feels like. Used to be a lot less cost. ๐Ÿค‘ I really could improve some of the code, get rid of some of the outdated crap and just make things a ton more efficient. There is a lot of things on the blog that are obsolete or old and outdated, and should be removed, as sometimes they randomly pop up on search engines. ๐Ÿ” And what I said years ago isn’t necessarily who I am today.

Somewhat of an improvement for the weekend. ๐ŸŒฅ Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. Maximum dew point of 55 at 4pm. Sunday, a chance of showers before 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 71. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 59 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 72 degrees.

It’s been going back and forth on the weekend, but I am thinking it will be stay-in-town weekend for heading out mountain biking at Thacher Park. ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ Maybe I’ll ride down from the park after trail riding, though I think I will skip the trip down to Warner’s Lake as that was a good trip back up there. Sunday I’ll probably go out to the folks house for Sunday dinner, ๐Ÿฝ and who knows I could go somewhere else to ride trail. I know they’ve built a good network of mountain bike trails on Wolf Hill, that might be fun to do. Ultimately depends on how wet the weekend turns out to be.

As previously noted, next Wednesday is More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ when the sun will be setting at 6:46 pm with dusk at 7:12 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 68 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 2017.
