I might have fifteenth weeks of trips planned between now and November with maybe three weekends I can get away β›Ί

That’s kind of just the nature of the beast got to pick and choose which adventures to take, noting that some trips in November wouldn’t be a bad thing – such as a Stoney Pond State Forest and Madison County trip before rifle season and the snow.

Good morning! Rain and 59 degrees in Delmar, NY. β˜” Calm wind. The dew point is 57 degrees. A half inch of rain is expected before it ends tomorrow around 6 am.

Another dark morning πŸ§‘‍🍳 baking bread 🍞 and making up rice, lentils and black beans 🍲 for the upcoming week. Mom has butternut squash for dinner with chicken and now I’m thinking I got to get some of that from the farmers market or grocery store as it’s so good. The weekend is over but I’m dreaming of future trips. But maybe not next weekend, as it looks kind of rainy. Too bad it couldn’t rain on the weekdays next weekend like it is raining this Monday.

Back to work on the earlier local bus 🚍 as it’s rainy day β˜” and I’m going to walk laps in the Plaza before climbing the stairs and getting down to work. Still working downtown for the time being , to wet to ride to work. The rest of the week though looks good for riding to and from work though depending on the final weekend forecast I might take off Friday and maybe Monday to head out of town but where is to be decided. So many dreams of future trips, as soon as I got back from Rensselarville State Forest.

Today will have showers likely, mainly before 3pm. Cloudy 🌦, with a high of 64 degrees at 1pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 9th. Maximum dew point of 62 at 3pm. Calm wind becoming north around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. It became sticky as the day progressed. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1891.

Midday I will have to walk up to Market 32 πŸ›’ to get contact solution as I’m out. And maybe a few other things for my pantry though I’m pretty much set. Hopefully it won’t be raining too hard midday. Worse comes to worse I can bike 🚲 over to Hannaford after work or I guess drive. But I’d rather avoid that if possible.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:51 pm with sun having an altitude of 49.3° from the due south horizon (-21.5° vs. 6/21). Waiting and watching the weekend forecast. πŸ˜• I don’t think this early in the week it’s set in stone. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 72. Maximum dew point of 56 at 11am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 60 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 72 degrees.

On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 49 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 50 degrees. We hit a record high of 69 back in 1964. I’ll have to once again fix the air leaks around my door πŸšͺ and get out the little space heater and electric blanket. But hopefully not for a while.

Adams, MA

Blustery, gray morning as Lee roars off the coast πŸŒ€

It’s not a real great weekend for camping but as they say, it beats being home. And it’s only a half hour drive home, fifteenth out to the folks house on Sunday. Gives me a chance for some hammock time and riding the dirt trails around. Probably they’re muddy though after such a wet late summer.

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Mostly cloudy and 53 degrees at the Rensselaerville State Forest. ☁ There is a northwest breeze at 15 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 44 degrees. The skies will clear around 4 pm.

Cool and rather blustery morning 🌬️ for camping up at State Forest. Got up around 6:30, made a breakfast of eggs 🍳 with spinach, onions, mushrooms and a whole wheat crust. Just flour and water, would have added salt but I didn’t bring that and I’ve been overdoing the salt lately after backing away from it. Trying to find balance. βš–

Today will become partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 65 degrees at 4pm. Timing all depends on how fast the hurricane pushes off the shore. πŸŒ€ 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 7th. Maximum dew point of 47 at 2pm. Northwest wind 15 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 71 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1939.

Left work around 4 pm taking the express bus 🚍 home, filling the cooler and getting out to Rennselearville State Forest around 5:45. I probably could have left at five but it was nice to be set up well before dark. Leaving at five would have been pushing it with daylight to gather firewood and set up camp. β›Ί Turned out to be a very starry night ✨ but a bit cool so I spent it huddled over the fire. I wanted to get away but not so far out of town as possibly next weekend I’ll head up north.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 50.2Β° from the due south horizon (-20.7Β° vs. 6/21). Today will have 12 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 45 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 4th. Northwest wind 10 to 16 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1959.

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until Daylight Savings Time Ends πŸŒ₯ when the sun will be setting at 5:48 pm with dusk at 6:16 pm. Seems much too soon 😒. On that day in 2022, we had sunny, warm and temperatures between 71 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 76 back in 1994. I’m thinking after the time change I can still ride to work some days and then put my bike 🚲 on the bus 🚍 for the ride home.

A Rainy Hump Day β˜”

It looks like it’s going to be a wet one for at least a few more hours and then some clearing. I’m not moving fast, I stayed up too late after doing some cleaning in the kitchen putting away clothes and fine tuning the indexing on my bike after really greasing up the gears, leading to some good smooth shifting again.

Good morning! What day is it? A wet one, of course. Rain and 64 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. β˜” Calm wind. The dew point is 64 degrees. The skies will clear around 8 pm.

I’m really not in the groove this morning, moving slowly but surely though the eggs and spinach 🍳 are helping a bit. I didn’t catch the earlier express bus 🚍 downtown, so I can do some extra steps in the Plaza but maybe not as many as I should before work but I’ll get off my butt and certainly do the stairs up to the 18th floor.

Totally ignored the doctors advice β˜• and had the extra cup of coffee this morning. πŸ§‘β€βš•οΈAnd hot peppers with the eggs so I’ll probably have to piss extra but whatever I’ll be in the office and I’m not taking my bike to work. 🚳I thought about putting the bike on the bus but I figured between the rain and riding on the front of the bus down the expressway in the rain my grease job would be for naught by the afternoon commute. Traffic will be heavy at rush hour and I won’t be able to get exercise while riding the bus 🚍 home but I can walk 🚢 after getting home. Forgot to get the salmon out of the freezer before work 🐠 so I’ll have to plan something else. Maybe finish off the sweet corn 🌽 and I guess I can defrost some chicken in the microwave if I’m really looking for something warm for dinner. Or maybe just heat up some of soup or rice-lentils I have in the fridge. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Today will have showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. 🌦 High of 73 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 12pm. πŸ–οΈ Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain. It was humid. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1948.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:52 pm with sun having an altitude of 51.3Β° from the due south horizon (-19.6Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:34 pm with the sun in the west (270Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (276Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:11 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:37 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:13 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies πŸŒƒ and temperatures around 67 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 39 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

I was thinking πŸ’ today would be the day to go to Walmart πŸ›’ and get all the things on my list πŸ“ƒ that Hannaford didn’t have at a good price, but I might wait until tomorrow as I want to go for an evening walk and then I can get fresh spinach, berries or anything else I might want. I think it will be warm enough tomorrow to wear shorts to work but I want to try on 34×32 pants πŸ‘– for l size before I order a few more pair online. I’m going to one of these days put most of my XXL clothes into the attic, as they really don’t fit well anymore and they really look like when I wear them I’m starving and just got out of a concentration camp. Plus between the too large and good fitting clothes, I really have too many to put in my dresser.

Tonight will be partly cloudy πŸŒƒ , with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6pm. Calm wind. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1963.

Weekend still looks cool and sunny, though some models show more clouds then sun on Saturday. 😎 Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 72. Maximum dew point of 53 at 4pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 76. Maximum dew point of 56 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 75 degrees.

Looking ahead but not necessarily forward, there are 2 weeks until More Night then Day 🌌 when the sun will be setting at 6:46 pm with dusk at 7:12 pm. I guess it means more time by the campfire in the evening. πŸ”₯ On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 68 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 2017.

Indian Ladder Farms

Cussing my way through a Sunday 🀬

Some days are better then others. This morning I started out by dropping a cup from cupboard onto my mini-food chopper shattering the lid, then digging myself into a bit of a whole trying to get rid of the clicking in the high gear of Blackie. Plus it’s starting to rain out.

Good afternoon! Rain showers and 75 degrees in Delmar, NY. β˜” There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 69 degrees.

So I started out my morning making oatmeal-banana pancakes πŸ₯ž which was good until I bumped the the counter and knocked a plastic cup down, which bumped the lid of the mini-food chopper I use almost daily. It’s not the most expensive device ever, but I don’t want to buy a new one if I can avoid it. Maybe I can glue the top back together. πŸ’₯ Fortunately where the break is isn’t where the latch is so I can use it for now, but I think I’ll want to look at getting a full-size food processor, and maybe also a replacement for the mini-one for use at camping. I’m undecided, money is currently a bit tight. πŸ’Έ

This afternoon will have showers likely. Cloudy 🌦, with a high of 76 degrees at 2pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 11th. Maximum dew point of 69 at 2pm. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1931.

Yesterday riding Blackie 🚡‍♀️ back from Thacher Park, I was noticing a ticking noise when in the high gear and I’m trying to adjust the front derailleur with limited luck, with hope to get running smoothly again. I guess worse comes to worse I can take it back to the shop to be properly indexed, but I want to try to do it myself βš™ especially with money as tight as it is these days. So far it’s been a lot of cussing, making things worse rather then better, but this is relatively simple, I should be able to figure it out. Not serious, but frustrating as you would hope your shiny new mountain bike would work without issues, but I think I snagged the front derailleur cable when I was out riding at Thacher Park yesterday.

Lunch is going to be some red-lentil pancakes, πŸ₯ž which are always a treat, especially with enough salt. Plus frozen fruit left over from the picnic to snack on. πŸ‡  And more of that whole-wheat bread I made yesterday, for dipping in the hummus I made this morning. Probably too much anxiety-based snacking.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent 🌘 Moon with 15% illuminated. At 2 PM, the moon was in the west (272°) at an altitude of 37° from the horizon, some 250,487 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. πŸš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by March 18th. Buckle up for safety! πŸ’Ί The moon will set in the northwest (304°) at 5:40 pm. The Harvest 🌽 Moon is on Monday, September 25. The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 6:02 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:30 am in the east (83°) and last for 2 minutes and 55 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 3 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:08 am with sun in the east (89°). Tonight will have 11 hours and 13 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over last night.

This afternoon in a bit I’m heading out to visit the folks. πŸ‘ͺ It should be a nice afternoon, though maybe a wet one. I heard County Route 312 is under construction, so I’ll have to decide if I should go that way or take NY 32. Don’t want to go too late though, as the sun set is earlier and earlier these days.

Tonight will have showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 3am, then a chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Patchy fog between 3am and 4am. Otherwise, cloudy 🌧, with a low of 65 degrees at 6am. 10 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 6pm. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 64 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1917.

In four weeks on October 8 the sun will be setting in the west (263°) at 6:26 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 49 minutes and 24 seconds earlier then today. In 2022 on that day, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 54 and 38 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 65 and 44 degrees. The record high of 80 degrees was set back in 2017.

Looking ahead,, Constitution Day πŸ“œ is Next Sunday, October πŸŽƒ is in 3 weeks, Average High is 65 πŸ‚ is in 4 weeks, 7:15 AM Sunrise βŒ›οΈ is in 3 months and Christmas Eve πŸŽ… is in 15 weeks.

Foggy 🌁 but a bit cooler this morning for a while

Company picnic day, I’m hoping for not a washout. Going to be hot but it should be relatively cool down by the river, in the shade.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Fog 🌫 nd 69 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. The muggy weather ends Wednesday around noontime. πŸ˜“ Won’t be quite as hot for the weekend but still very muggy. I guess the mildew needs one more chance to attack the walls in my apartment.

Kiddos are heading back to school 🚸 and while I tried to get out early for the walk 🚢 it was kind of dark out and I wanted to start the pot of beans to bring to the picnic along with the chickpeas I had soaking and now are boiling for hummus this weekend. πŸ§‘β€πŸ³ I’m working from home this morning and then I’ll get sweet corn 🌽 at Stanton’s around noon time before heading to the picnic. 🧺 I might also get some canteloupe as I want some more good things to have to eat at the picnic and it’s inexpensive and what doesn’t go at the picnic I can bring home and eat. 🍈 I’m just worried about having enough good and healthy options at the picnic.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. β›ˆοΈ After the fog burns off, mostly sunny and hot β˜€οΈ, with a high of 92 degrees at 4pm. 14 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 72 at 11am. Heat index values as high as 99. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1945.

It should be a nice day but hot. 😰 That said, the river breeze will be nice. I’m going up to visit and spend some time with Linda this evening – John Wolcott’s wife – as she has some old clothes for me to look at and I’m sure it’s tough with her husband’s passing. A lot of her old friends came to visit I’m sure for John and I don’t want her to feel totally cut off though the facility she lives in has a lot of good programs but it must be lonely. πŸ§“πŸ» Plus she has air conditioning there and by the time I get home it will be much cooler.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 53.5Β° from the due south horizon (-17.3Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:44 pm with the sun in the west (273Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (279Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:22 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 7:48 pm, which is one minute and 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:25 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and thunderstorms 🌩 and temperatures around 80 degrees. The dew point will be 70 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 7 mph. Tomorrow will have 12 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over today.

Yesterday I reached out to my web hosting provider πŸ•Έto drop the nycowboy.org domain which I haven’t used for years but I couldn’t delete myself as it was the primary hosting domain. But now I can drop it and won’t need to pay for it’s renewal come late October. I decided to renew my web host but it’s gotten expensive with inflation but in the grand scheme of things it’s not that expensive.

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before midnight. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Mostly cloudy β›ˆοΈ , with a low of 68 degrees at 4am. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 6pm. Southeast wind around 6 mph becoming southwest in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1978.

Last night I decided to cook up the asparagus πŸͺ΄ I got for camping πŸ• but didn’t use up and was starting to wilt. I cooked it up with peppers, pearl onions and using a can of mackerel 🐠 which turned out quite good. I tried to make chickpea flour with my food processor this morning but I couldn’t grind the dry chickpeas enough to create a fine flour. But I used it as a crust with the eggs this morning with a layer of pulverized tomatoes πŸ…, eggs 🍳, peppers, onions, garlic and parmesan cheese. Not too bad when finished off in the broiler.

Still quite unstable for the weekend. β›ˆοΈ Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 71 at 10am. Sunday, showers, mainly after 2pm. High near 78. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Maximum dew point of 71 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 77 degrees.

Still hoping to get to Thacher Park this weekend on the Nature Bus 🚍. And spend the day riding, assuming it’s not too wet. And reading πŸ“–, relaxing in the hammock. It’s free and fun which is good with do many expenses lately. 🚡 Sunday I hope to visit mom and dad, assuming they’re up for that.

Gap

The mornings and evenings are dark but it’s hot πŸŒ‡

Not so much heat and humidity at this hour but certainly later on. That said with the earlier sunsets and lower sun angle it cools off by evening but still rather sticky.

Good morning! What day is it? A dark start to the Hump Day, of course. Held off my morning walk for a while, because it was so dark. Fog 🌫 and 69 degrees in Delmar, NY for the morning walk in Delmar. Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. The muggy weather ends next Tuesday around noontime. πŸ˜“ Summer arrived in September.

Out walking this morning, though I held off a bit before it got a brighter out. πŸŒ‡ In the mean time I was down in my kitchen kneading some quick-rise dough with baking powder to make a crust to use with the eggs, spinach, and tomatoes. πŸ… Mom brought over a big basket of tomatoes, which not wanting them to go bad, I took several of the paste tomatoes ran them through the food processor, added Italian spices and roasted red pepper a bit of salt, cooked them down in a frying pan πŸ₯˜ with onions, then fried up some eggs and put it on top with parmigiana cheese. Good breakfast. Wish I had made up more coffee rather then reheating what I have but time is getting late — and I’m drousey.

Going to ride Blackie to work again 🚡‍♀️ and then probably take the bus back home in the evening as it’s going to be another hot one. Burn some calories, save a buck thirty. It’s always nice going down to the gorge, and the Madison Avenue Hill isn’t that bad now I’ve done it a lot of times. 🚌 I figure in the evening, I’ll ride down to the old Union Station on Broadway, catch the express back home. It wouldn’t be pleasant paddling through the gorge, though neither will be the traffic riding on the bus this evening, but at least it will be air conditioned most likely and I’m not driving. πŸ˜… πŸš— πŸš™ πŸš• 🚌

Today will be sunny and hot β˜€, with a high of 91 degrees at 3pm. 13 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 11am. Heat index values as high as 97. Yuck. I left the shades down in my office earlier to keep things nice a cool. Calm wind becoming northwest around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 2018.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 53.9° from the due south horizon (-16.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:46 pm with the sun in the west (273°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (280°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:24 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 7:50 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:27 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 84 degrees. The dew point will be 70 degrees. The heat index around sunset will be 68. β›± There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 59 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 68 degrees at 5am. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 8pm. Calm wind. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1962.

Last night I got home after taking the bus 🚍 had a quick dinner, ran down to the library πŸ“š and got the books I had on reserve, came home sat in bed next to the fan πŸ› read for a while and was asleep by nine. Tired and it was hot. I think this was the first really hot and humid day of the summer. In September, after Labor Day I know. Eat probably too much frozen mango and peaches but it made things nice and cool.

Unstable but slightly cooler weather for the weekend. β›ˆοΈ Saturday, showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Maximum dew point of 73 at 12pm. Sunday, a chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Maximum dew point of 69 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 77 degrees.

This weekend, while not looking all that great, might still be good for heading out to Thacher Park on the Nature Bus 🚌 for a while and doing some biking 🚡‍♀️ and reading πŸ“š in the hammock, and enjoying things, assuming it’s not too wet. Certainly it’s easy and quick now with the more direct bus to Thacher Park and the bike. Plus it would be good to cut expenses at least this week, because it’s been an expensive few weeks with all the trips I’ve been doing plus the healthier food I’m putting into my body. 🍏 I wasn’t thrilled to hear that people expect gas prices to remain high all autumn — that said I”m still thinking about some kind of big autumn trip with lots of smaller ones, before snow flies. But if all else fails, there’s always Rensselearville State Forest for a weekend trip.

Looking ahead but maybe not forward to the darkness, are 3 weeks until More Night then Day 🌌 when the sun will be setting at 6:46 pm with dusk at 7:12 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 68 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 2017.

Where have all the August days gone, long time passing? β›±οΈπŸ©΄πŸ¦•πŸŒ½πŸŽͺ🎒🎑

Where have all the August days gone,
With memories from dawn to dusk?
They slipped through time’s gentle hand,
Leaving memories in the mud and muck.

Good morning! August days fade away as mostly wet memories — though it looks like come September a beautiful stretch of weather is ahead. Did you see that big blue moon last night? Mostly clear and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. πŸŒ… There is a north-northwest breeze at 9 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 51 degrees.

A nice morning for the walk 🚢. I have chickpeas cooking down on the stove this morning 🍲 in a second attempt to make hummus again this time with fully cooked down chickpeas, sufficient salt and olive oil and fresh lemon πŸ‹. This time hopefully it will be a nice smooth mixture. πŸ›» Tomorrow at this time my hope is to be heading towards Tribes Hill for Samdil’s Farm to stock up 🌽 πŸ† πŸ… πŸ₯© πŸ₯š prior to the Adirondacks. ⛰️

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 73 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 6am. North wind 8 to 10 mph. Very autumn like day ahead. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1953.

Closing out summer what seems like much too soon 🌻 but it always seems to happen this way. I went out to Bender Mellon Preserve 🍈 after finishing off the last cantaloupe last night probably the last time after work until next spring due to the early sunset. Dark and shadowy now for the morning walk too as the sun rises later.

The red lentil wraps I made yesterday worked out good, 🍳 they were tasty with just the right amount of added sea salt. Again the key was soaking the lentils in advance all day so they were big and soft when they hit the food processor to make a good batter. πŸ₯ž Ultimately they were delicious with the red kidney beans and maple syrup 🍁 for dinner though I’m sure if I had kept more water in mix they would have been excellent wraps. Might try again up at camp this weekend.

Glad I rode back and forth to work yesterday 🚲 as there was a car πŸš™ πŸ”₯ fire on the Thruway and 787 was quite backed up plus I saved $2.70 for the day and got good exercise. Strong west wind coming out of the Norman’s Kill Gorge but I knocked it down and climbed slowly in lower gear βš™. Going to do the same today.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 56.1° from the due south horizon (-14.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:56 pm with the sun in the west (276°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (283°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:34 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 8:01 pm, which is one minute and 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:38 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 6 mph. Tomorrow will have 13 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over today.

Tonight will be clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 50 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 22nd. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1967.

Funny thing about all this warm weather coming up next week 😎 is I am already thinking a lot about the soups I can make up for cheap this winter, and are a bit disappointed that coming week isn’t going to be good soup weather. I was researching the use of canned broth and bouillon mixes and making my own stock for soup in coming months. 🍞 🍲 Bouillon is cheapest and easiest way to add flavor to soup and other meals, and broth is fine though it seems like a lot of packaging, and once you open it up, you kind of have to use it up quickly. Most bouillon is high in salt though, in part due to it’s use as a preservative, but also taste. The flipside is the salt in bouillon means you can leave it out of the rest of the soup, and soup can keep you going most of the day. Stock is a good way to go if I have time — a whole chicken isn’t that expensive and I think I have a big enough pot. I am thinking soup is a great way to make a lot of healthy meals cheaply, and would be so good with the simple, whole wheat bread like I made up earlier in the week.

On this day in 1965, Super Guppy took it’s first flight. The Aero Spacelines Super Guppy is a large, wide-bodied cargo aircraft that is used for hauling outsize cargo components. πŸ›¬ It was the successor to the Pregnant Guppy, the first of the Guppy aircraft produced by Aero Spacelines, which in turn was named for its resemblance to a pregnant guppy. Five were built in two variants, both of which were colloquially referred to as the “Super Guppy”.

A truly beautiful Labor Day Weekend on tap. 😎 Friday, clear and crisp 74. Might want to wear jeans and even a long shirt for heading up north! Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 81. South wind 3 to 8 mph. Maximum dew point of 59 at 4pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Maximum dew point of 66 at 4pm. Labor Day, sunny heading up to 90. Typical average high for the weekend is 79 degrees.

I packed clothes and filled the water containers πŸŽ’ in preparation for Labor Day Weekend and will finish packing this evening. I want to be to bed well before 9 PM, maybe 8:30 so I can get a very early start tomorrow, and be on the road before 7 AM if at al possible, so I can hit Spectulator by nine or so. Not because I’m planning on working πŸ’€ but I want to get that Hardwood Hill Campsite if at all possible, and then have the hammock set up and be all set up by mid-day, after which I’ll go for a nice bike ride. 🚲 I was thinking on Saturday or Sunday when it’s warmer, one option would be to ride down to Jessup River to cool off in the creek, although I almost want to drive down just so I can bring the tube for floating and cooling off. 🏊‍♀️ Going to be hot come Labor Day, though not excessively hot up north — but it is September. Still with the sun, it could get pretty warm up on Hardwood Hill, should I get that campsite.

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Columbus Day Weekend starts β›΅ when the sun will be setting at 6:20 pm with dusk at 6:47 pm. Can you believe only six weeks until that one final big blast of autumn color? On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny, shallow fog and temperatures between 71 and 41 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 85 back in 1954.
