July 4, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 78 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 60 degrees. Still pretty warm in my bedroom tonight but not as muggy as last night.

Kind of an odd forth of July this year πŸŽ‡ to spend the evening home. A lot of people lit fireworks though off in town and there was a lot I could see looking out to the mountains this evening. Probably saw more that what I would have seen camping up in Moose River Plains but it gets pretty crazy up there 😜 come the forth of July. I have a bunch of sparklers and fountains but I’m saving then for a future trip and or New Years Eve 2021.

I did some fishing 🎣 at Lawson Lake but didn’t catch anything. Nice down by the lake, sitting on the dock with my feet in the water πŸ’¦ . I kind of wish though I had a Vermont fishing license for the week but I have plenty of other things to eat and pass the time.

Had a nice outside barbecue with the folks. πŸ”πŸŸ It was good to see them its been a few weeks. 🐢 I hear they are getting a puppy. Their neighbors were having a big party. As I’ve said before, I’ve always thought their neighbors were a bit too close 🐽 because I’m more of a wilderness person.

I have started to pack gear and will be heading out to Vermont πŸš™ for the forseeable future until the heat breaks or I get tired of camping. I can spend up to 14 days camping in the National Forest but I bet I will tire if it before then. β›Ί I am working Ali next week remotely but I expect my evenings to vw free to hit a swimming hole 🏊 or maybe even Grout Pond. Not bringing my kayak this time as I’m going to be busy with work and it’s a pain to take it on and off so I can get solar to keep the battery πŸ”‹ bank full.

With the heat and probably sleeping fairly undressed I woke up to bad jock itch this morning. πŸ† Super itchy hot sticky balls are no fun. I know what your thinking gross. That said athlete’s foot cream, the cheap mega bottle 🍢 at Wally World works good. I think with the heat and humidity, especially when I’m home I need to plan on daily showers and changing my underwear regularly. I think in the morning I’ll stop at Wally World and get another mega container if athletes foot cream πŸ‘£and make sure I keep my privates well coated when I camp and wear clean socks to bed. πŸ‘Ÿ Fortunately, itchy privates doesn’t make you subject to the Vermont quarantine order. I expect the cream to continue to work well.

Tower Steel

This is some of the steel in the Mt Tremper Firetower. Not only are the views pretty through it, the tower is well up-kept thanks to the volunteers from the Steelworkers Union.

June 4, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 64 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. πŸŒƒ There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 55 degrees. A pretty nice evening to be up in the Adirondacks.

It is nice to be up north camping β›Ί but don’t get me wrong, it was still very much so a working day. I might of set up camp at the same end of the day but for most of the day I was actually quite busy. But I plan to work from camp tomorrow and heavierhave a quiet weekend, probably just hiking from camp to fishing and swimming holes. 🏊 That said by Sunday the high is only going to be around 70 and if I move to a different campsite come Monday highs will only be in the sixties.

It was a long trip north. πŸš™ Traffic seemed a bit heavier with the lock down ending πŸ”“ and the fact I left about a half hour later as I didn’t need to get a campsite before work. I’ve been staying up too late lately and tonight is no exception although there is no reason for me to get up early tomorrow morning and even less for Saturday. Yes I have to clock in a nine but I can still be cooking breakfast 🍳 while I boot the laptop and clock in. All the wires and power is run for the morning, setting up should be a breeze.

With the wind this afternoon πŸƒ I ended up working from my truck at the Speculator Library. I found it hard to hear client calls πŸ“ž by the lake and it looks bad if they could hear waves cashing in the background. It wasn’t super hot today and while it was pleasant working down by the lake I wanted to have unrestricted internet so I could watch YouTube in a picture in pictures window while I worked. πŸ’»

Believe it or not the bugs 🐜 are worse now than a two weeks ago over Memorial Day Weekend. Only black flies then but now the horse flies are out as are some mosquitoes. The screen tent πŸŽͺ helps a lot if I’m careful not to let them in but even after dark the hammock ain’t that great.

That said by 9 pm the worst of the bugs were done 🐜 and I had a big ol fire around ten once the wind diedπŸ”₯. Stayed up another two hours, partly next to the fire and partially in the hammock. Too many clouds ☁ to get a good view of the full moon πŸŒ• or see the land all lit in moonlight.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 57 degrees at 4am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 15th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 6am. Letting the Fire Do the Dishes For Me

I've gotten smart over the years when camping. I now take all of the canned goods (baked beans, soup, etc.), double bag them in zip lock bags that can be burned at the end of the meal, and use styrofoam plates and disposable silverware that can all be burnt. That means a lot less dirty dishes and unburnable trash to haul back.

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 47 degrees in Delmar, NY. πŸŒƒ Calm wind.

I am getting up early for a sunrise πŸŒ… hike tomorrow so I got to get to sleep. Otherwise I’d be sitting out back, enjoying the nice evening weather. I’m actually surprised that my neighbors don’t have a fire πŸ”₯ out back it’s a nice evening but maybe they have to work tomorrow.

Went to the laundromat and worked from there πŸ‘š in my truck while doing my wash. Between the roomy cab of my truck and the Wi-Fi this is a pretty good place to work in my opinion. πŸ’» Beats my uncomfortable chair at home and the sluggish cellular internet that I have to be so darn careful to keep just for work. On my personal laptop on the Wi-Fi I can update my blog or go to any web site I want and it’s fast. Later on I walked down to the park β›² and did my evening walk.

Buckle up for safety! πŸ’Ί The moon will set in the west-northwest (293Β°) at 9:26 pm. The Flower 🌷 Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:54 am, followed by dawn at 5:30 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:00 am in the east-northeast (71Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 3 seconds. Tonight will have 10 hours and 9 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 37 seconds over last night.

The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 2009. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1928.❄

This should be a really nice day. I’m planning on spending most of the afternoon hiking at Partridge Run 🚢 and then I may spend a night at a different state forest in the hammock β›Ί but it depends. Not going to be super cold tomorrow if I wear my hoodie and pack some blankets. Maybe have a little fire back in the woods then fall asleep to the sounds of woods. Looks like the rain β˜” won’t come until fairly late on Sunday or at least I’ll be up quiet early on Sunday should I decide to spend the night.
