April 4, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 53 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 43 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 10 pm.

It’s a nice evening, sitting out in the bed of my truck after the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ. I opened the container of Christmas ale ๐Ÿป that I got at Christmas and it’s good and 9 percent alcohol. I won’t need a sleeping pill ๐Ÿ’Š tonight after two good size mug fulls. First alcohol I’ve had since my birthday ๐ŸŽ‚ .

It turned out to be a lot more sunny โ›… and nice day then previously predicted. Walked about ten miles at Partridge Run. Started at Bradt Hollow Road and Beaver Road to Sickle Hill Road to High Point Road to the Long Path past the big swamp to a snowmobile trail that runs southerly to a clearing that runs along the property line up to Cook Hill and the newer part of Partridge Run Game Management Area then bushwhacked down to a stream and deep Ravine to Cook Hill Road to Bradt Hollow Road than took the gated southerly section that goes back to field that overlooks a hollow, North Hill in Rensselaerville and the Catskills. I also tried bushwhacking back to a large pond – actually a swamp back that way and I spotted several geese and wood duck. ๐Ÿœ Fortunately didn’t find any ticks on me when I got home but I did find one crawling on me when I was hiking.

At the end of the day I was thinking it would be a nice night to camp โ›บ overnight but I didn’t bring any food with me and had eaten my lunch already and it was getting dark. Plus I knew tonight would be a fairly cool and long night. But I was tempted to just get my hammock out, swing by one of the nearby state forests, grab some blankets and hoodie, start a small fire, ๐Ÿ”ฅ put on some music ๐ŸŽถ and then in a few hours all it a night in the hammock. But I knew by morning that I’d awake and be cold and have to try getting back to sleep ๐Ÿ˜ด until daybreak. It’s still early April and while the low in Albany is 45 degrees, it would be a fair bit colder done morning. I haven’t hung out in the hammock since autumn, I wouldn’t mind breaking it out for a good nap in the woods, especially when it gets a bit warmer, agree all two weeks until the average day is in the sixties. It’s actually a bit surprising how do far this year we haven’t had any real warm days. Maybe during the long weekend. Certainly there are some state forests in the western part of Albany County that are good for hammock camping.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers between 11pm and midnight. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 43 degrees at 6am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 1st. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of 14 occurred back in 2016.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbons Moon with 88% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the south-southeast (162ยฐ) at an altitude of 60ยฐ from the horizon, some 227,975 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by September 24th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ Ursa pretty bright moon lit night. The Pink ๐ŸŒธ Moon is on Tuesday, April 7. The darkest hour is at 12:59 am, followed by dawn at 6:04 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:32 am in the east (81ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 56 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:10 am with sun in the east (88ยฐ). Tonight will have 11 hours and 4 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly after 4pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 60 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 18th. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 42 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1928. 2.1 inches of snow fell back in 2019.โ„

Maybe tomorrow will turn out relatively nice like today. โ›… That said no big plans for tomorrow, just early to the laundromat and get groceries than back home. Maybe go for a walk around town, we will see or down to the park โ›ฒ. That said, between the ticks on the grass and the possibility of picking up COVID-19 from the park bench, it will be more of a walk ๐Ÿšถ there to get podcast than an extended stay. I do want to try to get the revised blog theme done and some fixes to my photo upload code.

Monday looks quite nice, ๐Ÿ˜Ž I plan to do my morning shift from my backyard and then go out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center to save bandwidth on my employers network card and be able to use my personal laptop for downloading videos and maybe activating the new blog theme.

No certain plans for the long weekend ๐Ÿฐbut truth be told I have some ideas. Nothing in stone yet but I’m watching the forecast and if things suck Thursday night I might leave early on Good Friday. To be safe I’ll get gas and all supplies โ›ฝ before I leave to ensure that I can wash my hands well. That said I’m a bit concerned that the forecast is trending cloudy โ˜ and cooler for the Easter holiday.

In four weeks on May 2 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (292ยฐ) at 7:57 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 49 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 65 and 50 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 65 and 43 degrees. The record high of 90 degrees was set back in 2018.

January 14, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 4 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I walked down to the library for a while to return my books ๐Ÿ“š. I was going to work on the John Wolcott project but I’ve had little ambition to do that much data entry after a busy day at work. ๐Ÿ“‡ He’s out of the hospital and feeling better, I’ll be back over on Friday. I really think I want to spend time cleaning up the existing sorted files ๐Ÿ“‚ and getting better labels ๐Ÿ”– on the folders. Rode the exercise bike ๐Ÿšฒ for a few minutes but stopped as my neighbor came home and lately it’s been quite squeaky. I’m hoping I can lubricate and tighten it up and get rid of the noise. It is pretty old and hardly a quiet machine at this point.

Neighbors have a candle burning in their window as I go to bed. ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ I sure hope they’re keeping an eye on it ๐Ÿ‘€ and not falling asleep with it at still burning ๐Ÿ”ฅ. I actually am going to make sure that I know where my wallet is and laptop bag before bed in case my neighbor’s place catches fire. ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ Its not directly connected to my building but if it caught fire, there is a risk of fire brands hitting my building so I would have to evacuate. I am all for using fire in a controlled way – its great for restoring habitats, heating buildings, cooking food and disposing of waste in rural areas – but it’s such a menace especially in the cities. ๐ŸŒ‡ I’m sure it will be fine or so I hope.

Tonight will have a chance of drizzle or light rain before 11pm, then a slight chance of drizzle between 11pm and 2am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 35 degrees at 6am. 21 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 8th. South wind 7 to 13 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 10 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1957.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon. The darkest hour is at 12:05 am, followed by dawn at 6:53 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:24 am in the east-southeast (119ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 19 seconds. Sunrise is 24 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 8:08 am with sun in the southeast (127ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ. Tonight will have 14 hours and 37 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 35 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 43 degrees at 1pm. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 12th. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph. Should be a very pleasant day. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 33 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 1995. 13.4 inches of snow fell back in 1983.โ„

It wasn’t a bad day at work, meeting went well. ๐Ÿ’ผ Busy today but I got another report finalized on my end of things. Making good progress. I got a nice complement from my boss to a client. Busy but so drab in that windowless office ๐Ÿข with those cool white florescent bulbs. But I’m getting stuff done, getting results for clients.

I got bumped by a car ๐Ÿš™ in a crosswalk today ๐Ÿ’ฅbut I wasn’t injured. I thought I made eye contact ๐Ÿ‘€ with the driver but I was kind of day dreaming and neither of us were looking. I bumped my hand into the hood of his truck but I never hit the bumper and didn’t do any damage. Got to be more careful crossing the streets. I haven’t had a close call like that in years – once before something similar happened in college – but I know it’s definitely possible to get in a much worse accident then getting brushed by a car. ๐Ÿšถ Drivers just don’t pay attention. Neither do I at times when I say dream. ๐Ÿ’ญ Pine Busher Lynne Jackson and bicycle activist Burt Shou has been warning โš  me about this for years.

In my suit ๐Ÿ‘”I do see myself getting old and gray in parts and with only a little over 3 years until I’m forty years old I really should try to understand myself and my future better. ๐Ÿ‘ด Still researching counseling services. I should just make an appointment and its only $25. I don’t like it, I don’t have to go back. But I could become a better person. ๐Ÿ‘ช It’s great to save for my future but I really should figure out if I should be looking to do other things in the meantime. Old age creeps up suddenly and I don’t want to be at a place where I can no longer do the things I want to do, like moving out west to rural town, my off grid property or hobby farm. ๐Ÿšœ Watching YouTube videos has me constantly thinking about all the other way people live and put food on their table. Some options will never be open to me, but if I have a better plan and more confidence I can open new doors for my future. ๐ŸšชI wish I could walk into a room, have a firm hand shake and be more charismatic and not a reserved somewhat crude hillbilly in a suit.

As I mentioned earlier, Iowa always seems like a fun state but not a lot of public land and land there can be super expensive due to amazing soils. ๐ŸŒฝ I follow Iowa Dairy Boys and a few other farm channels on the YouTube ๐Ÿฎ and while some of the farming isn’t that different than here in New York with old tie stall barns, they also have some really big and very fertile fields that are uncommon except for a few deep valleys in New York like the Genesee Valley of Western NY. But those are tiny in comparison to the vast fertile Iowa prarie. They also get quite a bit of snow and cold in Iowa – they’re winters are cooler than New York but hotter on summer due to the lack of moderating Atlantic Ocean. I also follow an off gridder in a shed to home ๐Ÿก in Iowa, as you might guess in a rural state like that many of rural areas are reasonably laid back on zoning and codes. I do love ๐Ÿ˜ learning about how those farm families fight the forces of nature and the market to scratch together a living often on the margins. They might have a lot of investment in their land and operations but even in Iowa are often struggling to make ends meet.

In four weeks on February 11 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (251ยฐ) at 5:21 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 35 minutes and 47 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 33 and 18 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 34 and 17 degrees. The record high of 59 degrees was set back in 1981.

Looking ahead, Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day ๐Ÿฅ› is in 4 weeks, Valentines Day โค๏ธ is a month away, National Drink Wine Day ๐Ÿท is in 5 weeks, St. Patrick’s Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 9 weeks, 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 12 weeks, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 16 weeks, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 5 months, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 23 weeks and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 42 weeks.

December 24, 2019 Night

Good evening on this Christmas Eve 🕯๏ธ ! Partly cloudy and 27 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around noontime. 🌡๏ธ

Had a nice lunch with the parents and my neice and sister 👪 and we exchanged presents 📦. We had macaroni and cheese for lunch although I guess tomorrow my parents are also doing a formal Christmas dinner 🍲. My neice is already getting close to four, I remember her baby shower a few years ago 👶. She’s got such a large vocabulary and is so smart being plugged into the whole Saratoga scene.

Hiking Bennett Hill was nice but I need to repair microspikes that I strap on my boots 👢. One of them had a wire break while another had a chain 🔗 pop loose. Easy enough to fix but walking back after sunset with the microspikes off it was slippery and I sort of twisted my ankle a bit. I’m fine though. I did enjoy the sunset and the rural agricultural landscape. 🚜 I miss that so much living in the city even though I do live far enough on the outskirts of the city I can still tell when the farm down the street is spreading manure. 💩 Someday I’ll move to some rural areas a few miles out from a small town like an Oneida or a Utica or a Plattsburgh but not in New York with all the gun laws and fire restrictions.โ›” But in the mean time, next week’s road trip should be great.

I was going to go out for my evening walk 🚶 after I got back from hiking Bennett Hill but I was tired and got watching the YouTube videos I downloaded this week. 🎥 I probably watch too much but at least it’s add free and a lot of stuff I watch is educational even if it’s not as good as reading 📖. When I’m camping in the Finger Lakes next week I’ll do a lot more reading for sure. I thought about riding the exercise bike 🚲 but I’m not sure if my neighbor was home – his lights were off but his car 🚙 was in the drive. I think he may have gone to the city on a bus or with a designated driver. 🍻 I’m still not sure if I’m coming down with something or it’s the Lyme disease. I am feeling again like I was in early November. I’m not thinking 💭 it will impact my trip next weekend but who knows.

I was watching this amazing video of a weather balloon with a camera floating up from earth to the stratosphere. โ˜ I guess the same thing you’d see on a plane โœˆ but I haven’t been on an airplane in years and it’s fascinating to see the different – and quite thin layer that seperates all of mankind from the vast emptiness of outer space that is extremely hostile to all life. 🌎 The atmosphere is really only a few miles thick. Honestly, I really like the idea of the Space Force and a greater emphasis on the understanding of the earth’s climate and the boundaries between space and the earth. 🚀

Christmas Eve will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 19 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 23rd. Maximum wind chill around 15 at 4am; Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2018, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of -22 occurred back in 1969.

Tonight will have a New Moon. 🌚 Not much too see though as tonight is fairly cloudy. The sun will rise at 7:23 am with the first light at 6:51 am, which is 25 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 57 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 11 seconds over last night.

Christmas Day will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 38 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 10th. I think that’s a bit too optimistic based on other forecasts I’ve seen lately but so be it. I’m thinking more clouds. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph. I have less than a quarter tank of gas in my truck โ›ฝ so I have to be careful how far I go. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 1889. 19.2 inches of snow fell back in 2002.โ„

A week from now will be New Year Eve 🎉and my final night of my Finger Lakes camping adventure. It should be a nice trip but the second day might be quite rainy โ˜” based on the forecast but a good chance to get through a book of two in the tent, sitting next to the heater 🎪. They have even less snow there than here at this point, I think it will totally be gone by the time I get there – but fortunately not so muddy because it is expected to be a fairly dry week until Sunday out there. At least next Sunday will give me a chance to do a lot of reading 📖 and maybe some writing too.

For Christmas 🎄my parents got me a nice little rechargeable lantern 🏮 that is perfect in the tent for reading at night especially with the nights so long now and the heater adding to the ambiance. Although also I’m looking forward to some long winter nights and hopefully getting the quality sleep that seems impossible lately at home – it’s terrible 😰 how I keep waking up at 3 or 4 each morning and can’t get back to sleep. 🎅 Maybe it’s Santa Claus waking me up each night, but it seems like every winter my sleep declines enormously. I think it’s too few nights in the woods. I still haven’t tested my big gas lantern, mainly because I have no where to hang it. I really should consider getting a lantern post but the thing is usually in the woods I have trees I can run a rope between to hang the lantern from. I really should do this tomorrow. And maybe start pulling stuff for camping from the attic. Gotta get my holiday decorations out tomorrow to hang at camp. . I’m hoping to also get a few extra Christmas lights and extension cords to use up at camp to replace broken and then cracked ones. 🔌

In four weeks on January 21 the sun will be setting at 4:53 pm,🌄 which is 27 minutes and 28 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had snow showers, cold weather, partly cloudy and temperatures between 5 and -7 degrees. That was a pretty cold day but not unheard of for January. My metrologist friend says he thinks late January this winter will be just as cold if not colder. I guess I wouldn’t mind the cold so much if my place had a better heater and more insulation. Typically, you have temperatures between 30 and 14 degrees. The record high of 61 degrees was set back in 2006.

Looking ahead, New Years Eve 🎆 is in 1 week, Coldest Week of the Year 🌬 is in 3 weeks, Martin Luther King Day 🖤 is in 4 weeks, Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day 🥛 is in 7 weeks, National Drink Wine Day 🍷 is in 8 weeks, St. Patrick’s Day 🍀 is in 12 weeks, 7:30 PM Sunset 🌇 is in 15 weeks, Cinco de Mayo 🤠 is in 19 weeks, Primary Day 🗳๏ธ is in 26 weeks, Latest Sunset 🌆 is in 6 months, Election Day 2020 🗳๏ธ is in 45 weeks and Election Day 2020 🗳๏ธ is in 45 weeks.

 Purple Tree

November 24, 2019 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Rain and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north-northwest breeze at 11 mph. 🍃. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 4 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

It was nice camping โ›บ up north in the Adirondacks, and I was surprised that it wasn’t as loud as it sometimes is camping along the East Branch of the Sacanadaga River. Traffic just seemed lighter than normal but I don’t think Gore is open yet nor is snowmobile season and big game hunting season is winding down in the Northern Zone, a lot of people have already tagged out. That said almost all of hunting cabins up north that I passed looked fully occupied with smoke coming out the chimney and lots of pickup trucks parked out front.

Lot more snow than I expected โ„, although not really based on the snow fall estimates which are usually pretty good. Maybe four inches of snow at camp – not real deep but enough that I was glad the site was plowed out by the hunter who had the campsite for the season before they tagged out – probably yesterday – and packed up and left. They also left a ton of firewood 🔥 which was nice, although some of it was particle and chip board although both after I took my axe to it burned well and didn’t stink that much much.

Because I had so much wood I ended up hanging out in camp and starting the fire early 🔥, shoveling around as needed. I didn’t set up a hot tent because I didn’t want to have to dry out my tent in the morning. It did get a bit cold by the fire late around ten as I forgot to pack Long Johns and Wool Socks but once I was under the covers in my truck I was plenty warm. If I go back out on Black Friday to camp – possibly back to the same place – I’ll probably pitch a tent as it’s always nice to have a warm tent to curl up before bed in.

I sat back and had a nice breakfast. 🍳 There was light snow during the overnight, maybe an inch, but by 8 am the roads were just wet. Then relaxing next to the heater โ™จ, working on some blog posts in the winter wonderland until quarter to ten, while slowly taking down camp, it started to sleet then turn to big globs of snow. โ„ By the time I broke camp, the roads had started to ice up a bit with the fallen snow. South of Wells the snow was about an inch deep on NY 30 but after a slow slog down to Northville, the roads were just wet. I drive super slow and carefully on the icy roads because I do so little winter driving these days 🚘 – and I know if it takes a little longer than necessary to get home safely – it’s still a shit ton better than getting in a crash. Really foggy 🌁 in Amsterdam.

It’s nice being in the wilderness and having a big fire. 🐺 The woods is my happy place where I can make as much noise as I want with my music 🎶 and guns 🔫 and have a nice fire. 🔥 Tossing a wrapper in the fire and watching it burn down to nothing and unzipping my jeans and peeing where ever I want is the best! Few things are quite as warming as a wood fire although that 18,000 BTU heater feels great at camp. Listening 👂 to the birds 🐦 this morning and the coyotes late last night. I can’t wait until I can live a life like this permanently. Not next year but eventually. Living in the city is convenient but I ducking love 😍 the wilderness and the countryside.

This afternoon will rain before 3pm, then rain and snow likely. 🌧 High of 37 degrees at 1pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 11th. Northwest wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 2014. That said, a few weeks later I remember snow camping in the Adirondacks. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 1898.โ„

Heading out to the folks house for Sunday dinner around four. 🍲 Warm enough and will stay warm so I expect the roads won’t be bad like they were up north for a while. That said things can change but it’s not that far for a slow pace or staying overnight if necessary.

The sun will set at 4:26 pm with dusk around 4:57 pm, which is 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and snow 🌨 and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 28 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow showers before 7pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 7pm and 9pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 32 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 16th. Northwest wind 8 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1938.

Tuesday morning I’m going to the Urgent Care to get my arm checked out 🙋. Five bucks more per copay then my regular doctor who is currently closed. I’m sure they’ll say it’s Lyme and they’ll put me on antibiotics and the aches and occasional severe headaches will fairly quickly go away. It’s become more noticeable since the bulls eye appeared, especially in the arm but I’m sure I’ve had Lyme Disease since I got the tick bite mid October. 🎯It’s not that bad now but I know it will get worse untreated and they’re so much better at addressing Lyme disease than even a few weeks ago. I was hesitant to go and get tested before I had the bulls eye because the test sometimes comes back false negative if you get tested too quickly and I didn’t want the doctor to thank me for the co-payment and send me on my way untreated. 😷

Also need to get a hair cut.💈 My hair has so quickly gotten shaggy. I did shave my goatee back 🐐 as that was getting kind of long and nasty. But the hair I can’t do myself. 💇

My buck fifty cellphone holder 📱I got from AliExpress broke so I couldn’t have Waze open to display my speed yesterday and I blew past a cop 👮 accidentally pm Interstate 890 🚔but fortunately I did not get pulled over. My speedometer is not accurate on Big Red with the lift kit so I always use Waze to know my speed. That said, for me to blow past a cop means doing 60 mph in a 55 zone which is probably what half the motorists are doing all the time. I should get another one. AliExpress is mad cheap but the quality is a crap shoot and it will take a month or two to arrive on the boat from China. 🚤

Definitely thinking about heading back north on Friday depending on the weather. โ›บ Maybe the same site but two nights, plus some hiking and time in the woods with my shotgun. This time I will pitch a tent and hot tent. I really should hook up the low voltage disconnect reset as in the cold and long nights it seems like occasionally the battery voltage dips but probably could be used longer without turning the truck on if I reconnected the reset button.

Propane camp lantern 🏮 isn’t working at all now. Not sure the issue although I suspect the generator tube that pressurizes the gas is fully plugged with mud and soot. During my October camping trip I was having problems with it producing a ton of black soot and burning dimly. I would like to fix it although I’m considering getting an LED lantern like my parents use and putting rechargable batteries in it it or maybe getting a lantern that can be charged by plugging into the USB ports on my truck. LED lanterns are a lot less fragile but probably not as bright as the propane and they need to recharged. Gotta think about it more. 💭

Speaking of broken shit my portable radio 📻 needs a new battery. The rechargable lithium ion BL – 5C battery it came with has failed, it barely holds a charge and it’s gotten all bloated from overcharging or another failure internally of the lithium ion cell. So bloated the battery cover won’t even fit on the radio.🔋 I’m hesitant to charge it now without watching it lest it go thermal and burn up. Years ago I was burning some camp trash and a little CR 2025 button cell got tossed in the fire and man did that go bang. 💥Moral of the story, don’t mess with lithium ion cells.

As previously noted, next Sunday is December 🎄 when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 45 and 31 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1934.

November 4, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Yes it has but I have tomorrow off as it’s Election Day. Doesn’t feel like Election Day though a I early voted last Monday. Next Monday is Veterans Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. Mostly sunny and around the freezing point at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

A beautiful morning. But it’s not expected to last. As the day progresses we will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a high of 50 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 10th. South wind 6 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 51 degrees. The record high of 76 was set in 1994. There was a dusting of snow in 2006.โ„

Definitely nice having that extra hour โณ in the morning to get going but the commute home will be dark on the express bus ๐Ÿš. But daylight is so limited this time of year so it’s best to take advantage of it fully.

The sun will set at 4:45 pm with dusk around 5:14 pm, which is one minute and 14 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 49 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 12 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 29 seconds over yesterday.

I remembered to turn on my porch light before leaving. ๐Ÿ’ก It’s on a daylight switch to save energy, so it won’t light until dusk as it seems wasteful to leave it on all day. I should see how much power the daylight switch uses itself but it may be a few milliamps or less as it’s probably a small photo cell that turns off a transistor.

Tonight will be cloudy โ˜, with a low of 42 degrees at 4am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 9th. South wind 10 to 13 mph. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of 17 occurred back in 1951.

I had a nice dinner ๐Ÿฒ of stuffed peppers at my parents house but I left my laptop charger there. They plan to drop it off at my house after their doctor appointment.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 13 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 37. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 40. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees.

Assuming that it doesn’t snow I’m thinking about Madison County and probably Stoney Pond. โ›บ I thought about leaving work early on Friday but I don’t want to get caught in a snow squall on Friday so I’ll leave early Saturday and come back Monday. My propane tank ๐Ÿฎ is full and my truck almost full of gas โ›ฝ so all I’ll need is any extra food I may need for the trip. If I go Saturday I should have time to find firewood to burn although Stoney Pond is often well picked over for wood.๐ŸŒฒGoing to be a crisp weekend but if the wind ๐Ÿƒ isn’t too bad and there is lots of sun it should be nice.

As previously noted, next Monday is Veterans Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:37 pm with dusk at 5:07 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 41 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 50 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 2002.
