January 6, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 30 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south-southwest breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. There is a dusting of snow on the grass and some black ice around – be aware. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 10 am. 🌡️

I rode the exercise bike for a while, having a late dinner with a pork roast in the oven. 🚲 The nice thing is I’ll have a good dinner again later in, maybe two hours earlier than today. I also went for my evening walk and caught up on the YouTube videos that I had downloaded. Yeah, I probably watch too many hours of Westin Champlain, mostly because I was watching a stupid tractor 🚜 video and I got hooked. Then there was that video about field dressing a deer. Never cut up anything that large 🔪but at least YouTube made it look easy. After reading that book 📙 on butchering it makes a whole lot more sense now. Meat science is fascinating 🍖, you really learn a lot more about what makes up an animal.

Tonight will have isolated snow showers between 1am and 2am. Partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 25 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 14th. Maximum wind chill around 22 at 3am; Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 14 degrees. The record low of -12 occurred back in 1878.

Tonight will have a Waxing 🌖 Moon with 84% illuminated. At dusk you’ll see the moon in the east-southeast (104Β°) at an altitude of 39Β° from the horizon, some 244,649 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀A bit farther away tonight. The Wolf 🐺 Moon is on Friday, January 10. Kind of pretty when I was out on my walk. The darkest hour is at 12:02 am, followed by dawn at 6:54 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:26 am in the east-southeast (121Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 23 seconds. Sunrise is 6 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 8:11 am with sun in the southeast (128Β°) at an altitude of 6Β°. Tonight will have 14 hours and 48 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 7 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have increasing clouds ☁, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 23rd. Calm wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 29 degrees. The record high of 56 was set in 1915. 7.2 inches of snow fell back in 1994.❄

I ordered a small USB hub from China to use with my laptop at work a month ago but it still hasn’t arrived. 🔌 I probably didn’t save much over ebay or even Walmart but I figured I could wait by the end I’m a bit frustrated about it now. Only two bucks and usually I have good luck with AliExpress but maybe not this time. Now that they are charging tax and shipping prices are going up on things from China thanks to Trump 🎺 I might not use them so much although it’s at still the best site for random, lightly packaged basic electronics components from China. I was thinking I should get out my soldering iron and do more electronics projects at home again.

In four weeks on February 3 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (248Β°) at 5:10 pm,🌄 which is 33 minutes and 52 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly cloudy weather, with mild temperatures between 45 and 31 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 32 and 15 degrees. The record high of 57 degrees was set back in 2016.

 America On A Sunny Morning

December 23, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. There is a inch of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Temperatures will drop below freezing around 2 am. β˜ƒοΈ

It’s actually a pretty nice evening, 🌃 and I sat out back for over an hour when it started to cool off a little bit. It wasn’t until quite late that it really started to drop off. Not going to be quite as nice in the Finger Lakes but not that awful either with each day expected to reach the mid 40s. Hard to complain about such weather on Festivus and I got a nice walk 🚶 before dark as I got out of work early today.

After which I came inside and rode the exercise bike 🚲 for a while listening 👂 to more of that trucker country 🚚 that I like from the late 1960s. That music 🎶 is crude and sleazy and sexist, probably gives one a taste of cigarette 🚬 and diesel 💨 on one’s mouth but it’s good for singing along especially if you’re not a real good singer and it has a good back beat. 🎸

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 28 degrees at 6am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 29th. Northwest wind 5 to 11 mph. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. Even milder last year. The record low of -15 occurred back in 1989.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon 🌘 with 1% illuminated. The moon will rise at 5:38 am. The New Moon is on Christmas Day with mostly cloudy skies. The sun will rise at 7:22 am with the first light at 6:50 am, which is 28 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 57 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 7 seconds over last night. We never quite have 15 hours of darkness in Albany but if you go maybe to Warrensburg or there about, you do on the first day of winter. They have slightly longer summer days then more southerly locations but ultimately it balances out.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 36 degrees at 1pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 16th. North wind around 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 2015. I remember that day we’ll, rained a fair bit then I went to my parents house – after working until 3pm and they lost power briefly while cooking Christmas dinner. Spent Christmas that year camping at the Cherry Ridge Camping Area in Madison County. 13 inches of snow fell back in 1966.❄

I thought about testing the propane lantern 🏮 after work today but I have no where to test it around home. I normally hang it between trees on a rope at camp but there are no trees around where I live because the landlord cut down all the trees on his property to avoid liability and leaf removal costs, although in the summer neighboring property trees seem to provide enough shade to keep the buildings cool. I feel like the lantern should work now that I cleaned it a few weeks and if it doesn’t I don’t know how I’m going to fix it before heading out to camp on Saturday.

While I haven’t really planned out my whole camping trip yet β›Ί I do have some things in mind and I’m thinking about what I will need for camping and my packing list 📃. I might start doing a little packing on Christmas Day 🎄 as I told John Wolcott I’ll be over to his house on Thursday after work 🔎and then Friday I’ll have to finish packing and getting finished for camp as I don’t want to delay my departure. I hate driving NY 79 through Ithaca with all the aggressive drivers so I’ll probably take US 20 out but that’s a long drive. Alternatively I guess I could take NY 13 down through Cortland but that can be pokey too. Seneca Falls, decorated as Bedford Falls 🌉 is fun to explore during the holiday season, Montezuma Wildlife Refuge will be closed for the winter. 🐦

In four weeks on January 20 the sun will be setting at 4:52 pm,🌄 which is 26 minutes and 47 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had snow and temperatures between 21 and 0 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 30 and 14 degrees. The record high of 53 degrees was set back in 2006.

Not sure I’m happy with the current voltage settings on the voltage switch. 🔋 Neither the starting or the accessory batteries were well charged today, but then again I only got like 30 watt hours of power today. It said that the starting battery charged for 3 minutes today, not sure if the switch tripped multiple times. I may have to push the switch up to 14.0 volts again but in the lousey sun angle β˜€ of winter not sure if I’m going to ever have enough power to make it ever engage. I might raise the voltage for camping as maximizing the accessory batteries charge us kind of a priority with the long cold winter nights. It easy enough to adjust those settings.

So far I’ve been fairly happy with the red screen both on my laptop and phone 📱 but it’s a pain to get things adjusted just right. But once the settings are good enough I can just turn them on and off and hopefully that will help with sleep 😴. Definitely it’s good to tone down the blue light from my computer monitor 💻.

I really do watch too many farm, hunting, trapping and off grid living videos on YouTube 📹 but it’s a much needed change from my urban life and takes me to worlds far away from Albany. A camera can bring you into a tie stall dairy barn and see the milking and feeding, show how to skin and process a coyote pelt or even many the day to day parts of living off grid with limited electricity generated on site, heating irg wood, etc. 🐻Wisdom shared over a camera. Because I downloaded the videos and watch them offline, I don’t have to watch those stupid ads but I also don’t get to like or comment on people’s channels. But if I had the internet at home, I’d probably be distracted all the other mindless things to do on the internet. 😼

Looking ahead, Bacon Day 🥓 is in 1 weeks, Make Your Dream Come True Day 🏡 is in 3 weeks, National Popcorn Day 🍿 is in 4 weeks, National Cheese Lovers Day 🧀 is a month away, National Pie Day 🍰 is in 4 weeks, Clean Your Computer Day 🧹 is in 7 weeks, Presidents Day 👴 is in 8 weeks, Read Across America Day 📚 is in 10 weeks, Worm Moon 🌕 is in 11 weeks, Arbor Day 🌳 is in 18 weeks, 8 PM Sunset 🌇 is in 19 weeks, Flower Moon 🌕 is in 21 weeks, Memorial Day Weekend Starts 🏕️ is in 5 months, Memorial Day 🇺🇸 is in 22 weeks, June 🍹 is in 23 weeks, Average High is 80 🏖 is in 26 weeks and Primary Day 🗳️ is in 6 months.

Some Snow on the Trees

December 17, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Snowy Tuesday. Next Tuesday is Christmas Eve 🎅. Snow and 27 degrees at the CDTA Bus Stop #10595. ❄ There is a north breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. There are 1.5 inches of snow on the ground and it’s continuing to accumulate. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at Sunday around noontime. 🌡️ God may have put it here but he’s in no hurry to take it away.

Slip sliding my way to work on the bus 🚍. By the speed the traffic is moving it must be fairly slippery around, indeed I’ve felt the traction control kick in hard a few times as the wheels had some slip on the hills. I am fully confident that I will make it into work on time. I thought about walking 🚶 down to the express bus 🚏but that’s the last express downtown for the day and if it got stuck I would be screwed. I will probably take the express home, as worse comes to worse I’ll be home late or have to walk part of the distance.

Today will snow. 🌨 High of 29 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees below normal. North wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1984. 11.1 inches of snow fell back in 1970.❄ I don’t think we will beat the 1970 record today.

The sun will set at 4:23 pm with dusk around 4:55 pm, which is 18 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for even more snow 🌨 and temperatures around 28 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 22 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before 9pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 22 degrees at 6am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 14th. Maximum wind chill around 22 at 6am; Light north wind becoming northwest 6 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 20 degrees. The record low of -9 occurred back in 1919. It’s winter. Okay, maybe not officially until the weekend but so be it.

Today in 1777 durting the American Revolution, France formally recognizes the United States. 🍟I am sure that the Idaho potato farmers thank France for that invention of lard fried potatoes. I’ve heard North Idaho is a lot different than the potato growing and cattle grazing region of South Idaho. Beautiful state though.

Cloudy and cold weekend on tap. ☁ Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 29. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Typical average high for the weekend is 34 degrees. Welcome to the winter. I’m hoping for better weather for next weekend for my camping trip. It looks like the end of the month might actually be quite mild.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Coldest Week of the Year 🌬 when the sun will be setting at 4:45 pm with dusk at 5:16 pm. By then the evenings will be noticeably longer. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny skies, with a few snow showers and temperatures between 28 and 8 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 30 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 1932.

 Late November in Adirondacks

October 6, 2019 Night

Good evening! Rain and 61 degrees at the Allegheny National Forest. β˜” There is a southwest breeze at 6 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 59 degrees. Despite the rain, it’s a fairly mild evening. It looks like West Virginia is getting hit by a lot of rain tonight – even more than here and thats a good thing – they need it badly. The skies will clear Tuesday around 1 am.

Today I mostly stayed around camp β›Ί, reading a book about agriculture in America. πŸ“– I don’t remember the name of the book and I’m not interested in going out in the rain to look at it. Read it cover to cover, it was an interesting book.

Later in the evening I went for a walk 🚢 along the Elijah Bike Trail up to Coal Knob. While the Coal Knob tower πŸ—Ό is long gone it is pretty with the Pitch Pine on the summit. It turned out to be a five plus mile walk, through a variety of forests.

Rain held off for the most part until 8:30 πŸ’¦ and I laid back in the hammock for a while before having to take it down for the rain. A mild evening, I am now sitting tarp although I let the fire go down πŸ”₯ to save wood for tomorrow and because I don’t know how much longer I’ll stay up. I might start up the truck a bit to top off the batteries before bed. 😴

Tonight will rain. Patchy fog after 4am. 🌧 Low of 53 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 23rd. Maximum dew point of 51 at 6am. πŸ–οΈ Calm wind becoming west 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1963.

If it’s too cold and wet in the morning, I’ll head into the tent next to the heater with a book and hang out there maybe with a cup of coffee. β˜•

In four weeks on November 3 the sun will be setting at 5:08 pm (Standard Time),πŸŒ„ which is one hour, 41 minutes and 35 seconds earlier then tonight. From the Clearing

September 4, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Back to School Day πŸŽ’! It’s a Hump Day although so far traffic hasn’t been too bad. Taking the express in today. 🚌 Wednesday is September 11th πŸ‡Έ. Hard to believe 18 years has passed since then. A child born after September 11th can vote this year. β˜‘ I was 18 when the attacks happened, I’m twice that now.

Mostly cloudy and 66 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. β›… There is a south breeze at 13 mph. πŸƒ wit. There is a touch of humidity with the dew point around 60 degrees. The skies will clear around 4 pm. Not a terrible walk but brisk because I was a little bit late.🚢

Today will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 1pm and 4pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Mostly cloudy ☁ , with a high of 79 degrees at 1pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 27th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 3pm. Southwest wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 89 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1929.

The sun will set at 7:24 pm with dusk around 7:53 pm, which is one minute and 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 72 degrees. The dew point will be 59 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 13 hours of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be scattered showers and thunderstorms before 7pm, then isolated showers between 7pm and 8pm. Patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, partly cloudy , with a low of 54 degrees at 5am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 9th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6pm. Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph becoming light after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1974.

Yesterday was a busy day as expected πŸ’Ό but what got needed to be done got done. I ended up going to the library for a while last night to work on a work project that I had fallen behind schedule somewhat.πŸ“š I was going to work on the blog and some other stuff down there, but the work stuff consumed all my time, and then it was time to go home. Then I ended up going home, and just watching a video I downloaded on my laptop.πŸ“Ό I also put away my camping gear. I misplaced my Bluetooth adapter — I think it’s in my truck but it was getting dark and I couldn’t find it last night.

Still looks like this weekend will be sunny but cool. 😎 Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 73. Maximum dew point of 55 at 7pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 71. Maximum dew point of 55 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees.

This weekend I am thinking I’ll get a hair cut, πŸ’ˆand maybe then on Sunday go hiking 🚢 before I go out to my parents house, maybe down in the Catskills. Or maybe I’ll head up to Partridge Run and do some hunting, hiking, and fishing. Not totally sure. πŸ’Β I don’t want to plan a big adventure to save money, and also because I have a lot of things I need to do around the house, including getting the Save the Pine Bush Map Pyramid Properties Map printed at a print shop before next week. Next Tuesday I’ll be down in New York City, so that will take up most of my day in the evening. The hearing is Wednesday.

Two weeks from Saturday is the Pine Bush Bird Watching Hike πŸ¦πŸ•Š so I will probably stay in town that weekend, and then there is only one more weekend in September — and the first week of October I’m leaving for West Virginia. 🚘 So who knows how many more times I’ll get out this month. I do think I want to do a fall trip up to Piseco-Powley Road, although sometimes those campsites get snapped up quickly during hunting season. 🐿️ That said, my West Virginia trip is early enough in October this year so I might be able to do a late October trip.πŸ‚

I’ve been continuing to research the various Python and Javascript libraries available for interacting with Renology Rover MPPT controller.Β πŸ”³ I am increasingly thinking that’s what I will get around Christmas this year, when sales are available, and I want to hook up the Raspberry Pi to use it to broadcast battery status information to my phone using Bluetooth, and then also read data from the starting battery, and dumping excess current into the starting battery to keep it topped up. Using a Raspberry Pi and the MPPT controller could minimize the amount of wires and components I need to build my smart relay, reducing the chance of failure.πŸ’»

Today in 1970, Salvador Allende is elected President of Chile. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± Only three years later on September 11th, he would be assassinated with the help of the United States by one of the most notorious tyrants Augusto Pinochet. ✊ The Price is Right went on CBS for the first time in 1972, and over the past five decades hasn’t changed much.πŸ€‘ I used to like watching it on my grandfather’s TV some 30 years ago.πŸ“Ί

Also, in 1949 The Peekskill riots were anti-communist race riots directed against African Americans and Jews attending a civil rights benefit concert. 🎷 The catalyst for the rioting was an announced concert by black singer Paul Robeson, who was well known for his strong pro-trade union stance, civil rights activism, communist affiliations, and anti-colonialism.βš– The concert, organized as a benefit for the Civil Rights Congress, was scheduled to take place on August 27 in Lakeland Acres.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until 7 PM Sunset πŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 6:59 pm with dusk at 7:27 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain and temperatures between 84 and 68 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 71 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1891.

Paddling Thru Cedar River

June 29, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 72 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 65 degrees. Kind of a hot day although it seems like the weather has moderated somewhat. The muggy weather ends tomorrow around noontime. πŸ˜“

Been a hot and fairly lazy day. Did some cleaning, πŸ›€ had a light breakfast and coffee β˜•, watched some of the ag and off grid videos I downloaded, πŸ“Ή then spent quite a bit of time playing with the barometric pressure I got in the mail βœ‰ from Burma. Works great already been soldered on the board and it’s feeding information into the display including the current barometric pressure ☁. Next step will be to add memory locations and compare to the trends so I can have messages warning about an approaching storm.

In the late afternoon I got a bunch of books πŸ“š out of the library to read through the holiday weekend. Then I came home, went to Henry Hudson Park on the river and spent some time reading. I though about fishing 🎣 but I decided against that. Bought groceries and had a late dinner of hot dogs. 🍣 I also took a bunch of pictures of her my truck’s electrical set up that I shared on one of the Facebook groups I follow and will add them to the blog.

For a while I kind of wished I had headed out of town β˜” but the forecast was so risky. I was thinking about Mine Kill Pool but I knew one clap of thunder ⚑ and that would be done. Plus I didn’t want to trapped in Schoharie County during severe weather and some of the storms around looked scary. Needless to say it was hot at home 🏑 but no severe weather.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌀, with a low of 64 degrees at 4am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 10pm. West wind 5 to 7 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 64 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1938.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon 🌘 with 3% illuminated. The moon will rise at 3:33 am. The New Moon is on Monday night with partly cloudy skies. The Buck Moon 🌝 is on Monday, July 15th. The sun will rise at 5:20 am with the first light at 4:46 am, which is 28 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 44 minutes of darkness, an increase of 34 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 1pm and 3pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Partly sunny , with a high of 74 degrees at 12pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6am. Northwest wind 8 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 94 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1964.

I got the puddy for repairing the table. 🎨 I found some stuff that is rated for outdoor use and rain and I’m hopeful if I pack it in well under the top layer of the table it will stick. It was under $10 including the putty knife so it’s not a big investment. It either works or it doesn’t.

The plan for tomorrow is to puddy up the table in my bedroom 🚧 before I leave for the day and Sunday dinner at the parents house. This way I won’t have to smell the noxious chemicals and they’ll be able to dry up even if there is the threat of the rain β˜”

Been doing a lot of reading the past two days. I finished reading πŸ“– Richard Hofstadter’s classic, The American Political Tradition from 1949, including the last chapter, “Franklin Roosevelt: The Patrician as Opportunist”. I had to read more so I got a different book out about FDR’s First 100 Days. Call FDR what you want – a pragmatist or an opportunist – but the truth is that he inspired a lot of people and reshaped the American government. Being up late yesterday with a book πŸ“™ is why I didn’t blog yesterday evening and in the morning I was hot and bothered.

I decided to leave from work on Wednesday and head up north to Moose Plains β›Ί right from work. Sun doesn’t set until late now so only the last part would involve driving after dark. Northway traffic will be bad but I’m not sure how bad as a lot of people leave early for the holiday weekend. I can drive safely. Maybe I will get to leave early too. I haven’t been up there since that warm late summer weekend in September 2017. Its a long trip up there and I kind of blame my broken shock absorber gasket or whatever you call it on those rough roads. 😑 But it’s a really nice big wilderness area and I like exploring. I can also plan hikes near camp so I’m not driving all day. The first night I’ll camp closer to the Cedar River Flow the head west to the plains for the following three nights. I guess I’ll bring my kayak as I might take it out on Helldiver Pond one evening and fish and toss back some of the tiny bulkheads that have become a nuisance in that lake. I’m not going to drive back over to Cedar River Flow as that’s too much of a time waste on those rough roads.

I thought about just going up to Piseco Powley Road if it’s going to be so hot πŸ”₯ for time in the Potholers but decided I have the rest of the summer on hot weekends to get up there. Two years ago I was in the Potholers late September and it was in the mid 80s up there despite the leaves changing colors.

June 11, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Green Light Tuesday. 🚦 Hopefully the traffic is moving well for you this morning. Looking out while I was making breakfast 🍳 it looked like not a lot of people were getting a green light on Elm Avenue. I made eggs with hot dogs, broccoli and cheese for breakfast. Two weeks to Primary Day πŸ—³οΈ. I really should continue to research the candidates so I know which levers to pull down at the library, my new polling place. I guess the all day primaries don’t start until next year? Or so I was reading on that paper trash I got from a candidate in the mail a few weeks ago. I don’t know, I’m just an ignorant hick when it comes to such topics.

The rain has stopped but it’s still cloudy and 61 degrees in Bethlehem, NY. ☁ There is a west-northwest breeze at 11 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 56 degrees. Things will improve throughout the day, there already is some hints of blue to west. The skies will clear around 11 am. Should be nice later on for the picnic.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly before 9am. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing 🌞, with a high of 74 degrees at 5pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 56 at 8am. Breezy, with a northwest wind 11 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1947.

The sun will set at 8:33 pm with dusk around 9:07 pm, which is 32 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 66 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of 39 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 50 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 26th. Northwest wind 9 to 14 mph becoming light west after midnight. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1972.

On this day in 1963, Buddhist monk ThΓch QuαΊ£ng Đức burns himself with gasoline πŸ”₯ in a busy Saigon intersection to protest the lack of religious freedom in South Vietnam. 🌍 The self-immolation would be captured on film and would go around the world. On the same day, John F. Kennedy addresses Americans from the Oval Office proposing a Civil Rights Act that propsed equal access to public facilities, end segregation in education and guarantee federal protection for voting rights. Lyndon Johnson would git r dun a year later.

While this is an important day in history, 😎 I’m just counting down the days until summer. Nine days. I doubt I’ll get out of town this weekend due to weather and work, but God willing next week. If it’s nice and hot, Potholers and Lily Lake from Stewart Landing otherwise Schoharie County and Mine Kill pool. 🏊 Summer is on my mind, and hopefully we will at least be seeing some sun soon. 🌻

It seems like the sink is working fine in the bathroom. πŸ›€ Drain cleaner got it working well. I will make sure to run the water a little extra when I’m shaving to make sure I”m not clogging things up with shaving — and make sure to use cleaner when things start slowing up right away. It’s kind of my fault for not addressing the problem right away, but things are good now.

The USB battery bank I got is fully charged, although it took all night πŸ”‹ and pushed my USB charger hard — at times it showed it was drawing upwards of 2 amp. Hopefully this means it will have lots of capacity. Except in really hot or cold weather, I’ll probably leave it in my truck, hooked up to the charger at all times, so it’s ready for camping. When it’s fully charged, it doesn’t draw much power at all.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Primary Day πŸ—³οΈ when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly sunny skies with a few rain showers in the afternoon and temperatures between 78 and 55 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 95 back in 1898.
