I decided to make macaroni and cheese again for dinner with ample broccoli. 🍲 I’m trying to cut back a bit on portions lately as I’m not as hungry and I get stuffed too early and I could use to lose weight. I saved a lot for lunch tomorrow so I won’t have to make a lunch up in the morning.

Went down to the library for a while and did some research for John Wolcott’s papers project. 📄 I’m trying to make sure that I have an accurate index 📇 and description of things. Tomorrow after work I’m going back over to his house to do more work on it.

Got home walked to Stewart’s and got moo juice. 🐮 Had a cold glass of milk or two and some frozen blueberries and corn cereal for desert. Read 📖 for a half hour more of the Almost President book. I have going to wear my Don’t Tread on Me shirt 👚 to the library but I don’t want to cause trouble. I’m almost ready for lights out. Tomorrow I have to reply back to Lynne Jackson email 📧 I keep putting off.

February 3, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. Nice night but I ended up staying home and working on a project with my soldering iron. 🔬 I’m having a hard time getting good solder joints on the perf board, I think I might need to use some more flux. I haven’t done many electronics projects in a while and my soldering skills are rusty. I did step outside for a bit on the stars and moon were quite pretty.

I want to rebuild my GPS logger I built two years ago and get that mounted in the truck before summer camping season. The earlier version worked okay until I fried the internal voltage regulator in the Arduino powering it. This time I’ll use an external linear regulator. But first I got to practice and get my soldering skills back up. I should have some more time before winter is over I’m hoping to do more electronics projects. ⚑

Good evening! Snow flurries and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. ❄ Calm wind. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 8 am. 🌡️ Snow won’t last but maybe more later in the week.

Dinner was good at the folks house 🍲 with bean stews although I left right after dinner to avoid the snow. No snow coming home but it certainly looked like it was close by from the radar. It was nice getting to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center both days this weekend, got lots of walking in plus some nature study. I have to say I’m lucky to live within walking distance of a cute little preserve like that. 🐸

Even warmer four years ago. The record high of 57 was set in 2016. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 2004.❄

After reading about spy equipment in hotels and Air BNB I’ve become fascinated by all the little inexpensive recording devices Ali Express. I discovered how many small audio recorders 🎤 there are out there – I was thinking that would be perfect for history interviews I do with John Wolcott and others but for now I think I can just use my phone. 📱 Then I got into the rat hole 🐀 of trying to find an inexpensive GPS logger that saves to text files similar to the one I built with an Arduino until it broke with no luck. I should rebuild the one I previously built and mount it again in my truck, this time using an external regulator so that the higher charging voltage in my truck doesn’t fry it in short order. I got to practice and do more electronic projects again. Maybe tomorrow.

I’ve been working on some new physical terrain maps – more like artwork 🎨 then useful maps to put on the blog. I had forgotten about the ones I had previously created and how nice they came out until somebody emailed me asking about the techniques I used. I couldn’t find the old QGIS project files so I had to recreate them and I exported the style files and emailed 📧 them over. 🌐

January 28, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Final full day I’m 36 years old. Tomorrow at 5:28 am or something like that according to my birth certificate, which is handwritten but not fake, I’ll be 37. Two weeks to Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day πŸ₯›. I don’t know, rancid milk can be pretty pungent πŸ‘ƒ, says the dirty hick that I am. πŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎ Cloudy in Trump’s America and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY, as I take the old hybrid bus from 2010 downtown. ☁ There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. πŸƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 6 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

Yes, I learned my lesson from yesterday and took the earlier bus 🚍 downtown. Its a bit annoying because this bus gets me to work much earlier than necessary but at least I won’t clock in late πŸ•’ and then have to stay late to get my seven and a half in. It’s tough with the 20 minute headway on the bus 🚏, I preferred it when they had the 15 minute headway but they’re wasn’t enough ridership to justify that level of service during the morning rush hour.

I was a bit worried I was getting a cold again 😷 after hearing John Wolcott was feeling sick again but I’m okay this morning. I sure hope I don’t get sick any time soon. I try to be a lot better washing my hands, but it can be difficult to do good handwashing practices.

Today will have isolated snow showers before 11am. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 38 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 26th. Northwest wind 8 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 22 degrees. The record high of 56 was set in 1916. 9.6 inches of snow fell back in 1897.❄

This morning I realized that I forgot to get pan spray 🍳 the last time I was at the store but I have my dentist appointment on Thursday so I’ll get it then. Kind of essential for making waffles. I think I will drive to the dentist just based on the timing of things. I also wanted to get another set of Bluetooth headphones 🎧 and more drain solvent so I had plenty in stock the last time I went to Wally World but they didn’t have it in stock..

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 29.1Β° from the due south horizon (-41.7Β° vs. 6/21). Adding sun angle quickly at this point, so when we get a bright sunny day it’s bound not to be quite as cold out as only a few weeks ago. You saw the February average high chart πŸ“Š I posted yesterday – it’s a steady climb through March.

The golden hour πŸ… starts at 4:21 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (238Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (246Β°) starting at 5:00 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 11 seconds with dusk around 5:33 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent πŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (222Β°) at an altitude of 31Β° from the horizon, 252,182 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:07 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies ☁ and temperatures around 35 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 49 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 12 seconds over yesterday. Definitely getting longer.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 22 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 4th. Maximum wind chill around 12 at 6am; Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 5 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1925.

While Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be quite nice, clouds and some rain or snow showers for the weekend. β˜” Saturday, a chance of snow showers before 1pm, then a chance of rain showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 32 degrees. At least another mild weekend is on tap, good for the heating bills. The woods might be super sloppy again this weekend after the rain but maybe I can road hike at Partridge Run or maybe in the Albany Pine Bush where the sand rarely gets muddy.

🌹🌻🌼Only 51 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

In other words, tomorrow marks 50 days until calendar spring. πŸ“… As that song by Godspell Soundtrack says, Day by Day.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day πŸ₯› when the sun will be setting at 5:21 pm with dusk at 5:50 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 33 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 34 degrees. We hit a record high of 59 back in 1981.

Good evening! Cloudy and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. The current wind chill is 24. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 11 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

Not a half bad day, relatively quiet at work. 💼 As I was in late according to the time clock 🕒 I had to wait until 5:08 to clock out. Which was fine but also super pointless as I probably spent most of the final eight minutes staring at the clock because it was too late to really get started on the project that dropped on my desk five minutes to five. I did manage to catch the express bus back home 🚍 but for some reason it seemed so pokey with the traffic 🚦, especially past the lane restriction by the Capitol but the whole commute was sluggish, probably because I’m used to catching the express from Peter Kieran Plaza as it gets onto Water Street and the expressway. But that wasn’t going to happen as I had to stay late to make the time clock happy. πŸ™‚ Needless to say I’m going to get to work earlier tomorrow.

I am cooked up a big pan of tuna fish 🐠 salad up 🍲. Probably not the healthiest meal 🍴 ever with all that mercury rich tuna and fatty mayonnaise but oh so good. It did have nearly 3/4 lb of broccoli in it and lately I’ve been eating like four pounds of broccoli a week 🌿 so you gotta pick your fights. I rode the bike 🚲 for a hour or two after. Finished off the mayonnaise and I had to wash out the jar for recycling. What a pain. I tell you when I own land out in the country, things like that are prime candidates for the burn barrel to clean up. 🔥 Recycling is good, especially in the cities where there is lots of people and lots of garbage β™» but it can be such a pain in the ass compared to tossing it in a fire.

Its a pretty mild evening when I went out for my evening walk earlier. 🚶 Certainly really cloudy though. ☁ I also rode the exercise bike 🚲 for an hour or two while cooking dinner than listening to music 🎶 and then watched the latest from Arms Family Homestead with them birthing goats 🐐 – “wife is coming home soon….. I got to wash the after birth off my hands 👐 before I cook dinner.” Now that’s a line, knowing how livestock after birth can smell. Maybe he should have taken a shower 🚿 too. I really enjoy watching YouTube and learning about farm life from birthing and preg testing through butchering. 🚜

Regardless I got home and read 📖 for 45 minutes before killing the lights. πŸ’‘ Almost done with that book on the News Corp that I’m reading. I do keep my room dim at night but now it’s completely dark with the goal of being completely asleep by ten 🔟.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 30 degrees at 3am. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 27th. Tonight will have 14 hours and 11 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 12 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a high of 36 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 19th. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 22 degrees. The record high of 56 was set in 1916. 9.6 inches of snow fell back in 1897.❄

That kind of sucks. ☁ While this winter has been quite mild the sun hadn’t shown all that much. I guess it doesn’t matter that much in my basement office 🏢 but it still is pretty dreary, especially on the weekends.

In four weeks on February 24 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (258Β°) at 5:38 pm,🌄 which is 36 minutes and 25 seconds later then tonight. Good evening! Clear and 14 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. The current wind chill is 0. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at Wednesday around noontime. 🌡️ Kind of a cold evening, I turned up the heat a bit before bed to ensure things aren’t too cold come morning even though its comfortable right now in the apartment due to the sun hitting the building all day.

It was a good long weekend even if it was pretty cold and somewhat snowy ❄. It would have been fun to gotten out of town but it was pretty cold and they got quite a bit of snow up north and out west. Got groceries, hiked at Schodack Island State Park, finally emptied the overflowing paper 📄 recycling bin β™» at the park and ride and took the other trash, recycling and compost out. Still need to return the beer cans the next time I go to the store. Made some progress on cleaning but there is more to do. Definitely lot of sun β˜€ today but cold. The rest of the week should be quite sunny but cold.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 6 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal. Single digits. Cold but not that bad in the grand scheme of things. Bathroom sink is plugged again 🚽 and I’m out of drain cleaner again. I’ve been having a lot of trouble with the sink on and off during the past few months. I was put some in the morning but it’s not free so I ended up mopping up the extra water 💦 and hopefully by morning it will be freed up. If not tomorrow after work I’ll get more cleaner. I’m fairly certain the clog is in the trap, if I have to I will pull it off and clean it myself. I’m hoping to do it with vise grips but if I need I’ll get a bigger plumber wrench 🔧 for my tool box. But first I’ll add more lye from the store. Worse comes to worse I’ll call the landlord but it’s only in the trap so I think I can address myself.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 24 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees below normal. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph. A year ago, we had snow in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. Snowshoeing Up Side Of Mountain

January 13, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 5 am. β˜ƒοΈ

It was a nice mild evening for my evening walk 🚶. I also road the exercise bike 🚲 for nearly an hour after dinner. 🍲 Read 📖 for about an hour. Now I’m getting ready for lights out as it’s nearly ten 🔟 o’clock.

Dinner was macaroni and cheese with frozen sweet corn 🌽 and diced tomatoes 🍅. Those canned diced tomatoes add a lot of kick to macaroni and cheese, top it all off with some grated cheese up top. 🐮 Plus serve it with a good glass of milk and its dairyific! Gotta love them cows. Not a lot of waste in packaging and an inexpensive meal.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 31 degrees at 6am. 17 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 29th. Light southwest wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 8 degrees. The record low of -24 occurred back in 1957.

In four weeks on February 10 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (251Β°) at 5:20 pm,🌄 which is 35 minutes and 37 seconds later then tonight. By then things will be warming up a bit, well in theory. The record high of 53 degrees was set back in 1955. Who knows, this year we could best that but it seems like soon we will be in a cold spell. But the warm weather so far this season has made up for higher heating bills later in the year I guess.

Looking more and more like a big snowstorm ❄ next weekend but we will wait and see. No guarantees but I still see a cooling trend by next weekend. I really doubt my trip to Brookfield will be an reality but I could camp after the snow storm somewhere locally. Or just stay home.

Looking ahead, Martin Luther King Day 🖤 is in 1 week, Clean Your Computer Day 🧹 is in 4 weeks, Presidents Day 👴 is in 5 weeks, Read Across America Day 📚 is in 7 weeks, Worm Moon 🌕 is in 8 weeks, 7 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 2 months, Arbor Day 🌳 is in 15 weeks, 8 PM Sunset 🌇 is in 16 weeks, Flower Moon 🌕 is in 18 weeks, Memorial Day 🇺🇸 is in 19 weeks, June 🍹 is in 20 weeks and Average High is 80 🏖 is in 23 weeks.
