June 9, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Next Sunday is Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ. Sunny and 50 degrees in Dormansville, NY. ๐ŸŒž There is a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. While a cold start to the morning — with very dry conditions continuing — it’s going to be much warmer later on. If not for it being such an unusually wet spring, it would be red flag conditions today.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 79 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 17th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 9am. South wind 5 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1933. Almost summer weather. Still two weeks until the pools open up for the summer though.

I’m at my parents house this morning in the truck camper shell, ๐Ÿ• and I’m still a bit undecided on the day. I might do the Gas Up, although I’m a bit tired as I’ve done it a lot in recent years. ๐Ÿšœย  I’m thinking of also doing some fishing and hiking for a while today at Partridge Run before going to the Gas Up.ย  Also considering — possibly — of hiking back to the Cliffs of Middleburg if I’m out that way. Then I have to head home, get my clothes ready for the week, run to the store, wash the truck. Should be a pretty nice day for sure, not too humid.๐Ÿ˜Ž

The sun will set at 8:32 pm with dusk around 9:06 pm, which is 35 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 67 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 14 minutes of daytime, an increase of 46 seconds over yesterday. Should be another nice evening to sit out back if the bugs aren’t too bad.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 52 degrees at 5am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 1st. Maximum dew point of 49 at 7pm. South wind 6 to 9 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1975.

The replacement hammock seems to work well, at least with the straps and the bag from the other hammock. At under $20 I’m happy with what I got, even if it is a bit smaller (not by a lot). Supposedly it’s a double hammock, but I wouldn’t put more then one person in it. Seems basically the same material as the other hammock, although I prefer the steel carbiners (less chance of breakage), even if they are slightly heavier.๐Ÿ˜ด But at that price if it only last for a season or two, not a big deal. I might order a second one at some point, so I have a back up in case it rips.

I ordered one of those portable multi-cell USB 18650 battery banks that a lot of people have nowadays, the model my parents like.๐Ÿ”‹I think it would be nice to have while wilderness camping to charge up my phone when it goes flat or my radio. I am going to install another USB port — or maybe build something out of another USB charger I have — that would be always on in the cap of my truck, and leave it plugged in all of the time, ready to go in my truck. I could even use it while camping with my truck — just plug in my phone if I’m too far away from my truck to use the USB charging. With the solar panel on my truck, I’m less worried about vampire loads running down the accessory batteries upon long times parked.

On this day in 1972, severe rainfall causes a dam in the Black Hills of South Dakota to burst, creating a flood that kills 238 people and causes $160 million in damage. By far one of the most costly man-made disasters in American history. Flooding continues to be such a problem in America, probably only made worse by climate change.

Right now, looking into the long-range, Saturday with mostly sunny, with a high near 73. Maximum dew point of 57 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 78 degrees. Some other models predict it won’t be quite as nice next week, and certainly fairly cool at any rate. Bass season opens up next week, which is notable.๐Ÿก I think I may have to work, but I’ll take it one day at a time. The following weekend — with most beaches and pools open — would be nice to get away, even if it’s just an overnight trip to Burnt-Rossman.

As previously noted, next Sunday is Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ when the sun will be setting at 8:35 pm with dusk at 9:10 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 84 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1967.

Campsite Along Red River

May 5, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค ! Next Sunday is Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€. Frank Zappa’s favorite holiday. Usually a rainy day for the tulip festival, which last year I spent in the office. ๐ŸŒท Even more clouds with times of rain and 53 degrees in Delmar. โ˜” Calm wind. The sun ain’t going to shine anymore. We’ll except late Monday when I have to work. Thanks Trump! If people like me hadn’t voted for Jill Stein we would sunny and 80 people promise me. The dew point is 49 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 2 pm.

I made biskets up for breakfast ๐Ÿณ and now I’m riding on my exercise bike ๐Ÿšฒ. Shortly I’ll take a shower ๐Ÿšฟ and go to the store. I really do need to go shopping as all I could find to eat yesterday was soup and that box of ice cream ๐Ÿฆ.

Then I’ll probably head out to my parents house for Sunday dinner. ๐ŸWith the weather so shitty I’ll probably want to get back home before it gets too dark out. I’m hoping the rain will stop for my evening walk. ๐ŸŒƒ

Today will have a chance of rain. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 58 degrees at 1pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 15th. It’s like tax day all over again. Just taxing. Maximum dew point of 53 at 3pm. Light and variable wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1900.โ„

The sun will set at 8:01 pm with dusk around 8:31 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 55 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 11pm, then a slight chance of sprinkles after 1am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 49 degrees at 4am. Five degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 21st. Light east wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly sunny in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1969.

The weather just sucks this weekend. I’m hopeful for better weather next weekend. I guess we pay the price for the nice hot weather we had last May for a cold one this year. ๐Ÿ˜Ž At least I’m saving miles and fuel โ›ฝ which means I’m saving for future trips or my eventual future.

I am still super frustrated ๐Ÿ˜ค about the Bluetooth modules for the various lights in my bedroom not linking but it’s not such a big deal this time of year with the sun being up fairly early. I’ll figure it out and I can always order a few more as they are only a few bucks a piece especially direct from China on Ali Express. Some times electronics projects can be frustrating.

Friday after the jobs news ๐Ÿ“ฐ, I looked at my investments and they are doing great. But I’m also ready for the next recession ๐Ÿ“‰ and watching fifty thousand in imaginary money disappear. ๐Ÿ’ธ To have ups you got to have downs. But I have time. Retirement and a even buying land is a while off for me. The good economy can’t last forever and by living minimally today one can be prepared for the tougher times ahead. I figure it’s 1969 in America’s economy. Oil will be cheap until it ain’t.

As previously noted, next Sunday is Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ when the sun will be setting at 8:07 pm with dusk at 8:39 pm. On that day in 2018, we had cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 50 and 48 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 68 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1881.

Hope Falls Road

April 4, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Feels more like a Friday to me, although I have to go to work tomorrow. That’s what happens when you work Sunday. Two weeks to the Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ. Might even start to see some signs of spring at that point. Mostly sunny and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 11 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Not a terrible day, fairly mild I still have the heat off. ๐Ÿ˜Ž May turn it back up later on though and the windows are closed as it’s not expected to be super warm. Certainly nice and sunny. I enjoyed my walk ๐Ÿšถ down to the express bus ๐Ÿš. Riding a coach bus to work today with nice soft seats. ๐Ÿ’บ Riding in comfort for sure.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 50 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 29th. Breezy, with a west wind 9 to 14 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. The wind will make it feel fairly cold but the sun โ˜€ will help.

Continued red flag ๐Ÿšฉ conditions as it’s spring, dry and windy. So Pennsylvania rednecks shouldn’t be burning ๐Ÿ”ฅ their paper plates and plastic milk bottles today. Save them for after the rain, get lots of beer and big ol’ bonfire. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 52 degrees. The record high of 79 was set in 1950. 4.3 inches of snow fell back in 2016.โ„

The sun will set at 7:25 pm with dusk around 7:53 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 44 degrees. Breezy, 17 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest. With that wind, probably too cold to go to the park after work. Today will have 12 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 22 degrees at 4am. 11 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 7th. Cold but not quite record breaking cold. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light after midnight. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of 14 occurred back in 2016. It still can get pretty cold this time of year.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of rain and snow before 11am, then rain likely. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 42 degrees at 1pm. 12 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 11th. Light east wind becoming south 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1928. 1.1 inches of snow fell back in 1914.โ„

Definitely going to be a cold and wet day tomorrow. ๐Ÿ’ฆ I am not camping, so I don’t mind. Sure, another nice day would be nice, but at least it will reduce the fire danger, provide moisture that with the increasingly mild weather will eventually make the city start to green up a bit. ๐Ÿž Yesterday, I went for a walk in Washington Park and there is no signs of the tulips, ๐ŸŒทand honestly things looked kind of barren with the snow gone, but things still brown and no leaves on the trees.๐ŸŽ‹ Honestly, I didn’t expect it to look like spring in the park, but I was hoping maybe to see a few more signs of spring.

Yesterday, I went over to John Wolcott’s house, continued going through his files. ๐Ÿ—ƒ Some of them were kind of interesting, especially the ones about thePryun Library that Erastus Corning and the DOT insisted had to be torn down for the flyover ramp for Interstate 787, even though they could have located it a few feet to the west for minimal costs, and remain within engineering standards. Some of the old dutch documents aren’t much of an interest, but anything involving Mayor Corning is very fascinating.๐Ÿ› The 1960s were a very interesting time in America.

When I got home, I was pretty tired and the wind was whipping around, ๐ŸŒช so I skipped my evening walk. Sure, I was a bad person, but I was quite happy to just lay back in bed. I opened up Facebook, jumped into the swamp, and got so disgusted by what I saw on Facebook, I closed the app. ๐Ÿ’ป I don’t even know why I go on there anymore. Maybe I’ve just become more conservative in recent years, or maybe it’s that my liberal friends have become more obnoxious. I don’t know.

I guess I shouldn’t avoid threatening ideas, but going on Facebook just makes me sick. ๐ŸคขLiterally makes me want to run down to the bathroom and puke out my brains.ย  I mean I like looking at the cute pictures of cows and hunting stuff, ๐Ÿ„ and seeing what my old friends from high school are up to, but so much of what is on there now is either advertising or abusively obnoxious political posts.

The weekend forecast continues to improve. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, a chance of rain before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 59. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 61. Maximum dew point of 40 at 1pm. Not a drop of humidity in that air, but that’s to be expected this time of year. Typical average high for the weekend is 54 degrees.

Spring is rapidly approaching, although there is going to be a lot of snow and ice in the mountains, and mud in lower elevations. I think I’m going to do something fun this weekend — maybe a good hike ๐Ÿšถand and some fishing on Sunday. ๐ŸŽฃ Depending on how nice it is on Saturday morning, I might go for hike on rail trail ๐Ÿš‚ although I’m not sure how early it will clear out or how early I’ll be out of bed.๐Ÿ›

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ when the sun will be setting at 7:41 pm with dusk at 8:10 pm. On that day in 2018, we had cloudy and temperatures between 47 and 33 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 60 degrees. We hit a record high of 90 back in 1976.

Two weeks from now I’ll probably be on my trip to the Adirondacks or Central NY, although I still haven’t requested the time off.๐Ÿ• I am on the fence where to go — I kind of would like to go to the Adirondacks and the North Country, but not if there still is a lot of snow and ice to deal with. The alternative would be a mix between Charles Baker and Stoney Pond State Forest, maybe heading south to Balsam Pond, hitting up several trout streams, and more rural rather then mountain country. I mean still have plenty of time to visit the Adirondacks before summer is over. I don’t want to deal with camping with snow and ice.

In four weeks on May 2 the sun will be setting at 7:56 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 48 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had hot, mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 90 and 45 degrees. Last year was the record high. Typically, you have temperatures between 65 and 43 degrees.

While it may not feel like it this week, ๐ŸŒทthe truth is much warmer weather is likely just around the corner. Ninty degrees days are not out of the question nor is heat and humidity although I hope things green up before then so there is some shade to enjoy outside by then. And maybe a few weeks without the black flies. ๐Ÿœ

Last night, I got talking to somebody about the plastic bag ban. They were worried about what they would use for trash bags, ๐Ÿ—‘ once single-use shopping plastic bags were banned. I got thinking about it some more — and pointed out they could wash out the trash cans like people did in the olden days, without any problem. Seems like a simple solution for a silly problem. I don’t get why they always have to have trash bag liners.

Probably when I have my off-grid property, I’ll use animal feed sacks for the kitchen trash that’s going out to the burn barrel (the stuff like wrappers, bottles and packages contaminated by food), and just either use bread bags or wash out the compost container. It’s amazing how many feed bags even small hobby farms end up throwing out. It just seems like there is much too much disposable, single-use plastic out there. ๐Ÿ›No sense paying for something your going to burn, after all.๐Ÿ”ฅ Maybe that’s the future, but I’m still focused on it.

After finding a plastic bag in the Pine Bush ๐ŸŒฒ then seeing a bunch more in the trees, I’ve really started to come around on this issue — they really need to go — as they don’t rot in nature without being burnt. Sure, I’m not happy with them charging paper bags, as I don’t always remember to have my reusable bags with me, but I’m also thinking that using a plastic milk crates, might actually be a much easier way to handle groceries. Reusable bags tend to get dirty quickly, and are somewhat flimsy, but if I could stack groceries in a crate that can be washed off, that might work really well. Groceries would be less likely to spill or get damaged when packaged in a plastic create.

Looking ahead, Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ is in 2 weeks, Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 2 weeks, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is a month away, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 6 weeks, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 11 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 3 months, August ๐ŸŒป is in 17 weeks and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 26 weeks.

South East from Farm Tower

March 26, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Sunny but cold, around 25 degrees at the bus stop ๐Ÿšnext to the Valero. ๐ŸŒž There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Things will start to thaw out at around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Listening to John Denver as I head downtown on the local bus ๐Ÿš , looking towards a potentially long day at work. But the money is good ๐Ÿ’ต and I’m saving for a better tomorrow.

Nice sunny morning but cold. Reminds me of mid November which makes sense because that was six months ago. 180 degrees out of phase. The sun is rising earlier now we dawn around 6:20. โ˜€ Cold start to the day, I turned the heat on but I don’t think the heater is working hard today. Come Thursday it looks like I should be able to turn it off and maybe come Saturday open the windows up again. ๐Ÿƒ I do like the fresh air. I shouldn’t rush summer too much as muggy hot summer days will be here before you know it.

I made up waffles this morning topped with frozen pineapple and red raspberry.๐ŸI do agree with that article that we don’t generally eat enough fiber. I know that I certainly eat too much pasta ๐Ÿฒ as I’m always looking for affordable, easy to make calories when I get home from work late. I always try to increase the amount of inexpensive fruits and vegetables in my feed ration as they are so healthy. I probably eat too much frozen sweet corn ๐ŸŒฝ but I like it and it’s healthier than so much of the overpriced junk foods they sell. ๐Ÿฌ

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 42 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 11th. North wind 6 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny in the morning, which became sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 1986. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 1899.โ„

80 hours until 5 pm on Friday. Each hour gets one closer to that point. In the context of this week that’s a pretty meaningless marker, but eventually it will be April 1st and trout season. ๐ŸŸ

The sun will set at 7:14 pm with dusk around 7:43 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 28 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight is expected to be the last cold night in a while. โ„ I’m hoping that later this week if it’s not raining โ˜” and I don’t get out too late from work, I’ll be able to sit out back. Certainly I should have all kinds of power at the truck cap as the solar panel is keeping the battery well charged with all the bright sunshine the past few days.

Tonight will be clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 17 degrees at 6am. 13 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around February 16th. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2018, we had clear in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of 11 occurred back in 1975.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 50 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 28th. I’ll take it for a change. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny in the morning, which became sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1998. 6.7 inches of snow fell back in 1959.โ„

Monday was a pretty good day, I was able to catch the express bus ๐Ÿš and be home by quarter to six. No complaints there but I really had made no plans for the evening. Too chilly to go down to the park and honestly the sun still sets a bit early for going down to the park for any length of time after work. ๐ŸŒ‡

I ended up staying home, laying in bed for a bit, doing what boys do, dreaming of a world to be.๐Ÿ‘Then I got on the excerise bike, ๐Ÿšฒrode for about an hour and a half breaking a while for dinner while watching some YouTube videos I downloaded over the weekend. ๐ŸŽฅ I ended up watching a lengthy video from Mike Price’s farm channel, them firing up tractors ๐Ÿšœ, hauling manure and petting cows. ๐Ÿฎ I don’t know why I like watching farm channel so much but I find them so interesting. Then I watched a video on processing racoon meat ๐Ÿ– and a Computerfile video on text encoding. ๐Ÿ’ป I have diverse tastes.

Later on after eight when I like to stop riding the bike to avoid making noise for my neighbor ๐Ÿ”‡ I worked on some new maps ๐ŸŒand GIS content for the blog and some new ideas I have for further blog posts. ๐Ÿ’ญ I really like the freedom of the blog, free of nasty comment and with full control over placement and styling. Plus it gives me a chance to dream about what my future will be when I live modestly today. I often find that the ideas put forward in the press aren’t always right ๐Ÿ“ฐ so I like to express my thoughts and feelings.

I went for my evening walk a while after nine o’clock. ๐Ÿšถ It was a pleasant walk but cool. Still there was a lot of stars โœจ and it was quiet. I enjoy the fresh air in the evening ๐ŸŒƒ always a good way to end the day. I just wish it was warm enough to sit out back but within a month we should regularly have days like that.

I did have a nice cold glass of water, actually two with some a drop or two of cider vinegar before bed. ๐ŸทSuch an economical drink and much healthier than milk or orange juice. ๐Ÿ‹ I mean I don’t think I’ve used more than a table spoon or maybe two of a modest sized bottle of cider vinegar I bought for two dollars. Any more than a drop or two in a glass of water makes the water very acidic and nasty vinegar tasting but a small drop gives a nice apple ๐Ÿ flavor and a slight amount of acidity almost like cola without the fizzle.

Probably worse on the teeth than drinking milk although at the concentration I drink it I doubt it’s as acidic as ordinary soda and its sugar free as the yeast eats the sugar leaving only the acid. ๐Ÿฎ I did have my favorite cow drink with dinner though.

That article I shared about climate change yesterday reminded me that we are living in the future ๐Ÿ”ฎ now and that 2030 is but a decade away and that the things that the smart people told us to do decades ago are finally coming to roost. ๐Ÿ“ Climate change is already noticeable locally in the numbers and it’s going to be profoundly more noticeable in the coming years, especially for the colored and poor who don’t have the financial resources to escape a changing environment that puts their home and livelihoods at risk๐Ÿ’ฅ.

I think it’s foolish to think we can eliminate fossil fuels in a decade or even dramatically reduce emissions but our inaction is going to bite us hard in the next decade or two. ๐Ÿ’ฃ I’m hoping I can protect myself from the worse impacts but many Americans will suffer and quite possibly lose their lives. Addiction to any chemical – be it drugs or fossil fuel – isn’t serious until it is. โ›ฝ

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 48 at 1pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees.

Figuring I’m just assuming I’ll have to work this weekend๐Ÿ’ผ or be dead tired ๐Ÿ˜ด I have no plans at all for the weekend. I’m fine with that, there is still a lot of snow up north, and I’d rather save up for the nicer weather next week.

In four weeks on April 23 the sun will be setting at 7:46 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 54 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had sunny and temperatures between 69 and 30 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 62 and 40 degrees. The record high of 87 degrees was set back in 2007.

Looking ahead, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 3 months, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 16 weeks, Constitution Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 25 weeks, October ๐Ÿ›ฅ is in 27 weeks and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 84 weeks.

 South

March 15, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Ides of March โœ! Good weather today for those friendly strangers cruising in their black sedans with the windows down. Ten weeks until Memorial Day Weekend. Black flies will be here before you know it. ๐Ÿœ Cloudy and 54 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the south ๐ŸŒฌ . The dew point is 45 degrees. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 9 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Nice mild morning, although certainly a little bit damp and cloudy. โ˜ I think ๐Ÿ’ญ the rain โ˜” has stopped, but I see more coming on the radar. But didn’t impact my walk down to the express bus.๐Ÿšถ Caught the express bus ๐Ÿš downtown from the Park and Ride. ๐ŸšBrand new bus, has only 3,000 miles on it according to the driver, probably just from taking delivery. I’ve heard that many of the buses are driven rather than loaded on train to get from California. Gives them a chance break in the engines and buses are so large they’d be expensive freight to ship any other way. โœ‰ Maybe though I’m wrong. ๐Ÿ˜• Some traffic ๐Ÿšฅ delays heading downtown but I get to enjoy the toxic ๐Ÿ’€new bus smell.

Finally a nice warm day. I opened the windows this morning to let some fresh air. Not super warm yet but it’s warm enough that the heat hasn’t run for a day now. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Good for my budget for sure. ๐Ÿ’ต As much work as wood heat may be I do like the idea ๐Ÿ’ก of spending money on sweat rather than fossil fuels. Eventually I’ll be able to leave the windows open for good. ๐Ÿƒ I almost thought about hanging out my flag but this morning ain’t that great.

Today will have showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then a chance of showers. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 64 degrees at 3pm. 20 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 28th. Yeap, it’s going to feel like a late April day. Going to be nice with all that fresh air in the apartment. Maximum dew point of 51 at 11am. South wind 10 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 1989. Probably not going to break that record. 10.4 inches of snow fell back in 1916.โ„ And certainly not that one. ๐Ÿ˜‚

The sun will set at 7:02 pm with dusk around 7:30 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clearing skies ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 57 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 56 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

I put some cold beer in the fridge that I got left over Brooklyn Night. Going to sit out back after work, next to the snow bank and drink ๐Ÿป some beer after work. I might also go for a walk to the park for a while too. I thought about grilling the frozen burger ๐Ÿ” I have on my grill but I don’t have any hamburger buns and I’m kind of in a rush to get down to the park โ›ฒ before dark.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 37 degrees at 6am. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 13th. West wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of 4 occurred back in 1980. I like record lows above freezing.

Today in 44 BC, Julius Caesar, Dictator of the Roman Republic, is stabbed to death by Marcus Junius Brutus, Gaius Cassius Longinus, Decimus Junius Brutus, and several other Roman senators๐Ÿ”ช on the Ides of March. And of course that pop group the Ides of March released their hit single, Vehicle. ๐ŸŽค๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ“€ Vehicle would go on to be one of the fastest growing pop hits of all times, an immediate success in March and April 1970, well until the Candian Rock Band, The Guess Who released American Women in mid-April, saturating the air play.ย Vehicle was quickly forgotten about although the oldies stations still play it a lot, because it is kind of a rocking good song. ๐ŸŽ› Heck, I still like to turn it up, almost 50 years later — and it was an old song when I was born in 1983.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ. I filed my taxes, but they got kicked back in the software, as I need to amend something that I made a mistake on. It’s actually good, the mistake is in my favor, not in the governments favor, so I’ll end up paying less. No fine, it’s just I made typo in my reporting which made my adjusted gross income look higher then it actually was. So many numbers you have to enter now that I’ve gotten older and done more on investing for my future.๐Ÿก

That said and the lower heating bills are going to be big help. ๐Ÿ”ฅ I’m really hoping over the next month I will only be using the heat modestly, as it’s now gotten to the point where it’s fairly mild — days in the 30s and 40s are much easier on the heating bills compared to 20s and 30s, especially as I tend to keep my heat set to around 50 in this weather. I can’t wait until the windows can be open for good โน even if it means hot and sticky evenings. Their is cold beverages for that weather.๐Ÿน

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 42 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 11th. Breezy, with a west wind 14 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 32 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1990. 13.4 inches of snow fell back in 1956.โ„ Sunday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 38. West wind 9 to 14 mph. โ˜€ Typical average high for the weekend is 44 degrees.

Not totally sure what my weekend plans will be, but I will probably stay in town, maybe go for a walk in the neighborhood. I’m not sure that this point if I am going to head into the city this weekend to keep working on Mr. Wolcott’s files ๐Ÿ—„as the St. Patricks Day parade will tie up things downtown, and Sunday I’m going out hiking. I got to look into the bus schedule more and think ๐Ÿค” about it some more.

Still haven’t installed the replacement battery ๐Ÿ”‹ into my phone yet. Maybe later on this evening or tomorrow morning. I just want to make sure I can get it fully charged before using it. I just hate how fast things discharge on my phone now. ๐Ÿ“ฑ

In four weeks on April 12 the sun will be setting at 7:34 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 32 minutes and 7 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 54 and 29 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 57 and 36 degrees. The record high of 84 degrees was set back in 1977.

Looking ahead, Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ is a month away, Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ is in 10 weeks and Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป is in 16 weeks.

March 9, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Sunny and 29 degrees on Bennett Hill here in Clarksville. ๐ŸŒž There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 38 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around February 28th. Northeast wind 3 to 6 mph. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2016. Not this year! 6.9 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

While certainly not as warm as 2016, still lots of sun โ˜€ this morning. I met my parents for breakfast ๐Ÿณ at Jakes Moon ๐ŸŽ‘ and now are hiking on Bennett Hill ๐Ÿšถ. Snow isn’t too deep except the part by the overlook where it is drifted. I kind of wish that I had brought skis or snow shoes for that part, but I’m only wearing microspikes, expecting more ice than snow. The skis will good later on when I go out to Partridge Run to ski ๐ŸŽฟ and search for sheds.

The sun will set at 5:55 pm with dusk around 6:23 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 34 degrees. There will be a northeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 38 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

The plan for the rest of the day is to next hike on Wolf ๐Ÿบ Hill at the Keihler Preserve then do some skiing ๐ŸŽฟ in the back portion of Partridge Run and keep my eyes ๐Ÿ‘€ peeled for sheds, wildlife and scenic beauty. ๐Ÿ—ป Not sure how icy Gifford Hollow Road will be but hoping it won’t be too bad for getting into the back for skiing but I’m not going to take chances. I know it’s plowed and sanded but I’m worried ๐Ÿ˜ฏ it might not be great. I can always park ๐Ÿ…ฟand ski ๐ŸŽฟ from wherever.

Tonight will snow, mainly after 3am. ๐ŸŒจ Low of 26 degrees at 9pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 16th. I like that, it will give the heater a break! Northeast wind 6 to 15 mph becoming southeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 0 occurred back in 1996.

Tomorrow will snow and sleet, possibly mixed with freezing rain before noon, then rain and sleet likely between noon and 1pm, then rain likely after 1pm. High of 37 degrees at 3pm. ๐Ÿ’ฆ One degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 8th. Southeast wind 11 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of around an inch possible. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 1977. 5.7 inches of snow fell back in 1964.โ„

I might wash Big Red tomorrow ๐Ÿ›€, depending on how early the ice turns to rain โ˜”. I really want to wash the salt off the underbody. I’m heading over to John Wolcott’s house ๐Ÿก in the afternoon to continue sorting his files ๐Ÿ“‚. Then I’ll go pick up a few groceries to make it through the week. Trying to save money wherever possible.

Today in 1959, Barbie doll makes its debut at the American International Toy Fair in New York.๐Ÿ™† Dogs forever have enjoyed chewing off the their heads and boys have enjoyed them watching them melt in the fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ.

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ when the sun will be setting at 7:51 pm with dusk at 8:22 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, cold, partly cloudy and temperatures between 50 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

Looking ahead, Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ is in 7 weeks, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 8 weeks, June ๐Ÿน is in 12 weeks, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 15 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 18 weeks and Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 24 weeks.

March 8, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Not yet a summer get away weekend but Memorial Day Weekend ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is only 11 weeks away at this point.๐Ÿ• Attention friendly strangers in black sedans, Next Friday is Ides of March โœ. Cold but very sunny โ˜€ around 13 degrees in Delmar. Not a whole lot of warmth in the sun today. There is a south-southwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The current wind chill is 2. Not a really good day for frosty, as only patches of snow remain around. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will finally start to thaw out at around noontime. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Thumpty-thump, thumpty-thump, look at frosty go.

Remarkably chilly morning walking down to the express bus stop.๐Ÿš Despite all the sun โ˜€ there isn’t a lot of warmth in the air. I also left the heat turned down last night because I didn’t think it was that cold โ„ and honestly I’m trying to save money ๐Ÿ’ต however possible to make it over the fiscal cliff known as tax season. I’m hoping at this point that I won’t have to turn the heat up at night night because the nights won’t be that cold. I’m not seeing a lot of below normal weather in the forecast for the next week.

It’s just kind of depressing to read my home energy report the utility sends me and see that 94% of my winter energy โšก use is from heating. ๐Ÿ”ฅ My heating bills have been higher this year than last year according to the report, but then again we had the cold spell and sometimes I’ll turn it up a bit when I’m cold. But every time I turn up the heating knob, I realize I am stealing from my future in two ways — less money to save ๐Ÿ’ธ and more climate change from the burnt natural gas.๐ŸŒ I do find my blaze-orange hoodie keeps me warm, so I wear it a lot more and just are cold morning. Eventually when I own land and home, insulation is going to be a priority, as will having an efficient, wood or maybe coal stove. Energy security is a big concern for me, I’ve seen too many people struggle after they loose power or their propane supplier doesn’t show up promptly for re-fills. Things are only going to get worse as climate change gets worse.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 36 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 22nd. Where are you Mr. March weather? Probably in Florida. Southwest wind around 8 mph. Might be good though for a lunch time walk ๐Ÿšถ . A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 2012. 6.5 inches of snow fell back in 2013.โ„

Today back In 1965, Thirty-five hundred United States Marines ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโ›ด are the first American land combat forces committed during the Vietnam War. ๐Ÿ”ซ The Vietnam War was getting underway, a quagmire that would ultimately undermine the Great Society plans and be one of America’s longest wars. Never declared a war, it still did a lot of harm to our country to say nothing of Vietnam and lead to a lot of unnecessary deaths.โ˜

The sun will set at 5:53 pm with dusk around 6:21 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 34 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 18 degrees at 6am. Five degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around February 20th. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2018, we had light snow. It got down to 27 degrees. The record low of -14 occurred back in 1943.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 41 degrees at 3pm. Typical temperature for a change. Not above or below normal, just normal. Doesn’t happen very frequently — only four times over the past winter. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2016. 6.9 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

Tomorrow looks like a nice day. I am thinking about meeting my parents for breakfast, ๐Ÿณ and then going out for a hike/ski in the Heldebergs and look for sheds ๐ŸฆŒ or at least enjoy the beautiful day.๐Ÿž I’m trying to minimize the miles on my truck and not filling up the gas tank for a while, but I’d hate to miss the nice weather on Saturday as who knows how much longer the snow will be around. Gas isn’t that expensive, โ›ฝ and I’m not planning to head out that far, and next week like this week, I plan to keep the truck parked through Saturday or maybe Sunday, ๐Ÿ…ฟso it won’t be burning any fuel in the mean-time.

Looking ahead to Sunday, rain, snow, and sleet, becoming all rain after 11am. ๐ŸŒจ High near 42. Southeast wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 41 degrees. I emailed Mr. Wolcott to see if he’s around on Sunday, I might go over to his house. I could take a bus, or I might drive this week, as I would like to wash the salt off my truck ๐Ÿ› and pick up the few groceries I need. I’m avoiding a “full” shop this weekend, to save money, and because I have way too much food at home right now. If I didn’t have to wash the salt off the truck, I’d probably just leave Big Red Parked until next week. No problem with keeping the accessory battery fully charged, it was at 15.4 volts this morning with the stronger sun of spring time.

Sunday is the first day of Daylight Savings Time. โŒš I know it doesn’t actually save time but it does mean more light in the evening ๐ŸŒ‡ which once it warms up and I’m not working late at work, I can go down to the park with a book ๐Ÿ“™. I really look forward to the change, even if it means I will have to get an extra hour early up for work. But with the days getting longer so quickly, I don’t think that’s a big deal.๐Ÿ•œ I already set the analog clocks ahead in my bathroom and kitchen, the next step will be to set the clock in my truck and reprogram my microcontrollers with the time change. I know I probably could hard-code in the time change to the controllers, but it’s just easier to re-flash the memory twice a year. For about a week, it will be dark when I wake up for work, but with lights coming on automatically, it shouldn’t be that difficult to wake in the morning. Plus, I can go back to setting my alarm clock each day.

In four weeks on April 5 the sun will be setting at 7:26 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 32 minutes and 23 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had a rather cold but partly cloudy day with some snow showers and temperatures between 39 and 24 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 54 and 33 degrees. The last few Aprils have been pretty cold, but I’m not totally sure that will be the trend this year. The record high of 82 degrees was set back in 1928.

Looking forward to finally nice weather, and getting out of town on the weekends once the snow bites the bucket. ๐Ÿ• It’s going to happen, it always does. Sure many roads will be closed for mud season, but there are still many places I can go once the snow is gone. NY 8 in the Adirondacks comes to mind, especially early May before the black fly season has started. Solar panel should work good this time of year. The fiscal cliff I face, is manageable, and with some careful planning, I should be able to enjoy adventures in late April into May, depending a lot on how busy my work schedule is and the weather. I want to definitely do some trout fishing, ๐ŸŽฃ plus have a nice big fire up in the woods ๐Ÿ”ฅ with a cold one or two.ย  Snow camping is fine, but I much prefer truck cap camping, and not tromping through the snow.

Looking ahead, Ides of March โœ is in 1 weeks, Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ is in 11 weeks and Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป is in 17 weeks.
