April 11, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 46 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. Mild enough that when I went down to the library for the Wi-Fi I sat outside on the park bench. ๐Ÿ“š Got progressively cloudy as the day went on with the sky very dark around rush hour. The skies will clear Saturday around 8 am.

Busy tough day at work. What got done and needed to happen got done so I got paid. ๐Ÿ’ผ But in many ways it was a long day. At least I got the replacement sensor for the truck so hopefully that will work well going forward.

Traffic on the bus ride ๐Ÿš home wasn’t bad. Made it home around the normal time and saved money ๐Ÿ’ต too boot as it was a free bus ride as I had already ridden three buses for the day and the rest are free for the day. ๐Ÿ†“

It looks like they finally cleaned up the hotel ๐Ÿฉ that burned on Southern Boulevard about two years later and the new suburban development should be errected there. Apparently they never discovered the reason for the fire but I suspect the owner torched it to reduce asbestos abatement costs. That’s my thoughts ๐Ÿ’ญ and we know who profits over their asbestos landfill – the city.

Before heading over to the library I cleaned out the refrigerator and found a half empty bottle of wine ๐Ÿท from Finger Lakes Wine Night at the Capitol a year ago and drank it so I could recycle it. The refrigerator is cleaned out and do are the bottles and cans โ™ป and the wine was still good with the pasta despite being first opened 11 months ago. The wine was remarkably good with the pasta although if I hadn’t gotten it for free I doubt I would have drunk it. First alcohol in like three weeks. But now I can recycle the bottle ๐Ÿถ.

Fixed some bugs ๐Ÿž in the internal blog code and made some more orthophotos up at the library. If it had been a bit nicer with a later sunset I probably would have just gone to the park.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 39 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 19th. Light southeast wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 13 occurred back in 1874.

Tonight will have a First Quarter with 53% illuminated. The moon will set at 2:06 am. Not going to see much tonight with the clouds. The Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ is next Thursday. Only pink if you wear rose ๐ŸŒน colored glasses. ๐Ÿ‘“ The sun will rise at 6:19 am with the first light at 5:50 am, which is one minute and 40 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 44 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 57 degrees at 5pm. Typical for Tomorrow. South wind 10 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 84 was set in 1977. 3.3 inches of snow fell back in 1962.โ„

I might open up the windows tomorrow morning as I always like the fresh air. ๐Ÿ”ณ Next week I think I’ll be able to have the windows open most of the week, certainly Sunday.

Saturday will be the best part of the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers, mainly before 7am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Southwest wind 6 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 53 at 6am. Sunday, rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Doesn’t sound like a real wash out Sunday but not a lot of sun. Typical average high for the weekend is 57 degrees.

My weekend plans remain the same – transfer station, brake switch, pack camping gear โ›บ. I’ll have to see if I can go out to my parents house on Saturday. Sunday I’ll probably stay home or if I go out it just will be to the store for groceries. Monday is going to suck with Defensive Driving. I really need to look at other good insurers like Gieco or Progressive as even with the discount my rates just keep jumping up. My truck is getting old and while I have good coverage to protect my hard earned savings, the rates are getting a bit steep.

So I have the brake switch and I’ve been studying about four or five YouTube videos on how to pull off the clip and the module. ๐Ÿฅ It doesn’t look hard but I don’t want to mess shit up by doing bone headed things. I just want my cruise control back.

In four weeks on May 9 the sun will be setting at 8:04 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 35 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had sunny and temperatures between 82 and 53 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 67 and 45 degrees. The record high of 93 degrees was set back in 1979.

My electric and gas bill fell to $61 last month because I had the heat off most of last month. That’s a pretty big drop from February when it was $104 and I started to think I was a soldier on the war on poverty. ๐Ÿ”Œ Knowing how fees are, probably $50 is just fees for being connected to the grid and $9 is the water heater and the refrigerator. Or something like that.

I retired the debt on the credit card ๐Ÿ’ณ that had to be retired and the state tax payment comes out on Monday. Tuesday I get paid by the state which is good. ๐Ÿ‘‹ If the weather is good next weekend I should be able to afford to get out of town but I’m also fine with staying in town and waiting another week for more snow melt and ๐Ÿ’ง and potentially warmer weather.

Looking ahead, Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ is in 1 week, Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• is also in 1 week, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 5 weeks, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 10 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 12 weeks, August ๐ŸŒป is in 16 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 5 months and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 25 weeks.

Snow Melt Coming Down the Mountain

April 10, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 40 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. With that breeze it’s a bit cool but still well above freezing. Temperatures will drop below freezing around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I’ve been digging through the Deer Hunting report from 2018 to put together some maps and other GIS content for the blog in the next few days. ๐ŸŒŽI’m trying to come up with some unique new content for the blog. I have some ideas that might be neat. There is a lot to learn on the latest versions of QGIS particularly now that so much can easily be run through the GRASS ๐ŸŒพ backend.

I went out for my evening walk around 9:15.๐ŸšถNot a really warm evening but lots of stars โœจ out above and a nice crescent ๐ŸŒ™ moon. I wish it was a bit warmer to sit out back but those days will be here before you know it. Quiet night but usually at this hour โณ traffic is pretty light.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 27 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 21st. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph. Windows are closed tonight for sure. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1874.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ’ with 42% illuminated. The moon will set at 1:07 am. The First Quarter Moon will be tomorrow. The Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Thursday, April 18th. The sun will rise at 6:21 am with the first light at 5:52 am, which is one minute and 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 47 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 54 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 6th. North wind 3 to 6 mph. It should be a nice day. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 2017. 1.7 inches of snow fell back in 1942.โ„

Tomorrow at lunch I plan to run up to the General on Central and buy the brake switch. โญ•I’m thinking about installing that on Saturday maybe after I go to the transfer station. I do need to still clean out the bottles in the refrigerator for recycling. I’ll be glad once the cruise control is working again on my truck.

Saturday looks like the best day of the weekend. ๐Ÿ‘ Saturday, a chance of showers, mainly before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 74. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 52 at 9am. Sunday, rain likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 58. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 57 degrees.

Sunday really doesn’t look great but maybe the morning won’t be a washout, so maybe I can start packing my camping gear โ›บ should I decide to head out of town for the three day Easter Weekend. So far two weekends out the weather ain’t great.

In four weeks on May 8 the sun will be setting at 8:03 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 37 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had sunny and temperatures between 77 and 41 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 67 and 45 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 1936. I’m looking forward to those nice days in May, especially once things get green.

Looking ahead, May ๐Ÿ•Š is in 3 weeks, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 8 weeks, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 11 weeks, Altamont Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 18 weeks, State Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 19 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 22 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 24 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 93 weeks.

Snow Melt Coming Down the Mountain

April 9, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 47 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Today wasn’t a bad day, busy but reasonable. Got dark and cloudy for a while then nice around dusk ๐ŸŒ† . Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 2 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I worked until seven o’clock today and then had to wait for the seven thirty bus home. ๐Ÿš The bus was right on time and honestly I didn’t get out of the office right at seven o’clock and took a short stroll around West Capitol Park.

Cooked up some hot dogs in the microwave โ™จ put on some ketchup and sat them in a bin with cheese and hot sauce. I then went for my evening walk. Not a half bad evening, I’m feeling a lot better today than yesterday. Peepers are out singing ๐ŸŽถ their songs. ๐Ÿธ

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 36 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 11th. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph. In 2018, we had cloudy in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 27 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1974.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ’ with 31% illuminated with the moon setting at 12:04 am. Kind of a pretty sliver of a moon tonight. The First Quarter Moon is on Thursday night with mostly clear skies. The Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Thursday, April 18th. The sun will rise at 6:22 am with the first light at 5:53 am, which is one minute and 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 50 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 50 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 29th. Northwest wind 11 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1922. 5.7 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

In four weeks on May 7 the sun will be setting at 8:02 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 39 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 69 and 50 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 67 and 44 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 1930.

I am definitely looking forward to nicer weather come the autumn and spending more time in the wilderness. โ›บ Those days will be upon us before you know it. May really is only three weeks away. I may not get away camping Easter Weekend but I expect the weather will improve before you know it.

That Moss Island trip I’m thinking about taking this spring ๐ŸŒธ sounds like a lot of fun during early to mid May. I always have liked that part of the Mohawk Valley.

I think I’m going to try twice daily, shorter blog posts again ๐Ÿ“although that will very from day to day.

Afternoon at the Cotton Hill Lean-to

April 6, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! My gawd, that was a long work week. Three weeks to Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ. I like trees, they produce wood that is a lot of fun to burn. You know these days I spend a lot of time thinking about fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ much like Blake Shelton. Be safe out there. It’s funny not listening to commercial radio ๐Ÿ“ป much lately I kind of missed out that song until I spotted it the YouTube. See I’m not a complete luddite even if I spend too many hours listening to Phil Ochs.

This morning is oh so clawdy, dreary and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are some patches of snow on the ground but don’t wait, it won’t last. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThe skies will clear around 1 pm. Hopefully sooner as I want to take a walk out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center ๐ŸŒฒ before I go over to my niece’s birthday party ๐ŸŽ‰.

Last night was pretty cold and dreary, I ended up staying home, first working on some mapping stuff then working an electronics project, namely hooking back up the LED strip I had that broke last fall and needed reassembly. ๐Ÿ’ก I didn’t ride the exercise bike as my neighbor was home and I didn’t want to bother him. I thought seriously about turning on the heat but a expect shortly that won’t be necessary.โ™จ

Now while I wait for things clear out, I’m riding the exercise bike ๐Ÿšฒ while I work on this blog post. My neighbor is at work now so I don’t have to worry about making too much noise. ๐Ÿ”• At some point I’ll make breakfast ๐Ÿณ up, I’m leaning towards pancakes. I haven’t had them much lately because I usually don’t like baby sitting ๐Ÿ‘ถ the stove while having breakfast. I do fancier meals while I’m at camp. Eggs cooked on charcoal are always good. Plus it’s another opportunity to have a fire. I guess I really have spring fever. ๐Ÿ˜

Today will start out much too cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 60 degrees at 5pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 18th. South wind 6 to 13 mph becoming west in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1921. 17.3 inches of snow fell back in 1982.โ„

Today I’m off to Five Rivers in a bit once it warms up ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿฆ then I’m going up to my niece’s birthday party ๐ŸŽ‰. I’m hoping the sun will be out soon and then I’ll leave for Five Rivers. โ›… I have to head home around 12:30 pm so I have time to shower ๐Ÿšฟ and get ready for the party.

The sun will set at 7:27 pm with dusk around 7:56 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 54 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 59 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

The sign on my wall says one month until the 8 pm sunset. I can wait until it’s nice enough to go to the park after work. ๐Ÿ“™ I’m actually hoping it warms up enough later to open up the windows, it seems like we really haven’t had our first real spring thaw of the year.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 37 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 13th. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light west after midnight. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of 13 occurred back in 1982.

That’s a lot more reasonable for a change. ๐ŸธThat said, probably still too cold to sit out back tonight with the dampness in the air from yesterdays rain. โ˜” At least the fire danger is lower.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 4pm. 13 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around May 10th. I’ll take mid May weather in April. Maybe I’ll finally be able to open up the windows. South wind 3 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 2010. 3.2 inches of snow fell back in 1896.โ„

Different forecasts call for different weather tomorrow. ๐Ÿ˜• I really not sure what it all means. I’m still thinking about ๐Ÿ’ญ hiking Platte Clove Road but only if it’s reasonably nice. ๐Ÿšถ

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ when the sun will be setting at 7:51 pm with dusk at 8:21 pm. I was watching a video ๐Ÿ“น of a farm tractor ๐Ÿšœ PTO driven wood splitter the other day. Or was it hydraulic driven? Regardless…. Cool toy. There are a lot neat machinery driven by tractor PTOs. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, cold, partly cloudy and temperatures between 50 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

I tell you there are a lot of neat toys out there for landowners. ๐Ÿšœ Machinery that has a lot of important purposes around the farm and rural homestead and makes life easier for those who work outside. ๐Ÿ’ต I keep saving and investing, working hard to get ahead at work and towards a better tomorrow. It’s tuff to get ahead but I try to save everyday and note the benefits of compound interest and market growth. Urban New York doesn’t have to be my home forever.

In four weeks on May 4 the sun will be setting at 7:59 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 45 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny, warm, rain showers and temperatures between 84 and 58 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 66 and 44 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 1944.

I am very glad that May is less than four weeks away and that the weather rapidly moderates come spring. โ›บ I so look forward to night’s in the wilderness next to the campfire and also nights with the windows open. I really miss spending time in the wilderness. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ

Looking ahead, Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ is in 3 weeks, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 4 weeks, Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 6 weeks, June ๐Ÿน is in 8 weeks, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 11 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 14 weeks, Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš is in 15 weeks, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 20 weeks and Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 24 weeks.

Sun Finally Shows

April 4, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Feels more like a Friday to me, although I have to go to work tomorrow. That’s what happens when you work Sunday. Two weeks to the Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ. Might even start to see some signs of spring at that point. Mostly sunny and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 11 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Not a terrible day, fairly mild I still have the heat off. ๐Ÿ˜Ž May turn it back up later on though and the windows are closed as it’s not expected to be super warm. Certainly nice and sunny. I enjoyed my walk ๐Ÿšถ down to the express bus ๐Ÿš. Riding a coach bus to work today with nice soft seats. ๐Ÿ’บ Riding in comfort for sure.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 50 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 29th. Breezy, with a west wind 9 to 14 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. The wind will make it feel fairly cold but the sun โ˜€ will help.

Continued red flag ๐Ÿšฉ conditions as it’s spring, dry and windy. So Pennsylvania rednecks shouldn’t be burning ๐Ÿ”ฅ their paper plates and plastic milk bottles today. Save them for after the rain, get lots of beer and big ol’ bonfire. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 52 degrees. The record high of 79 was set in 1950. 4.3 inches of snow fell back in 2016.โ„

The sun will set at 7:25 pm with dusk around 7:53 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 44 degrees. Breezy, 17 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest. With that wind, probably too cold to go to the park after work. Today will have 12 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 22 degrees at 4am. 11 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 7th. Cold but not quite record breaking cold. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light after midnight. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of 14 occurred back in 2016. It still can get pretty cold this time of year.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of rain and snow before 11am, then rain likely. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 42 degrees at 1pm. 12 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 11th. Light east wind becoming south 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1928. 1.1 inches of snow fell back in 1914.โ„

Definitely going to be a cold and wet day tomorrow. ๐Ÿ’ฆ I am not camping, so I don’t mind. Sure, another nice day would be nice, but at least it will reduce the fire danger, provide moisture that with the increasingly mild weather will eventually make the city start to green up a bit. ๐Ÿž Yesterday, I went for a walk in Washington Park and there is no signs of the tulips, ๐ŸŒทand honestly things looked kind of barren with the snow gone, but things still brown and no leaves on the trees.๐ŸŽ‹ Honestly, I didn’t expect it to look like spring in the park, but I was hoping maybe to see a few more signs of spring.

Yesterday, I went over to John Wolcott’s house, continued going through his files. ๐Ÿ—ƒ Some of them were kind of interesting, especially the ones about thePryun Library that Erastus Corning and the DOT insisted had to be torn down for the flyover ramp for Interstate 787, even though they could have located it a few feet to the west for minimal costs, and remain within engineering standards. Some of the old dutch documents aren’t much of an interest, but anything involving Mayor Corning is very fascinating.๐Ÿ› The 1960s were a very interesting time in America.

When I got home, I was pretty tired and the wind was whipping around, ๐ŸŒช so I skipped my evening walk. Sure, I was a bad person, but I was quite happy to just lay back in bed. I opened up Facebook, jumped into the swamp, and got so disgusted by what I saw on Facebook, I closed the app. ๐Ÿ’ป I don’t even know why I go on there anymore. Maybe I’ve just become more conservative in recent years, or maybe it’s that my liberal friends have become more obnoxious. I don’t know.

I guess I shouldn’t avoid threatening ideas, but going on Facebook just makes me sick. ๐ŸคขLiterally makes me want to run down to the bathroom and puke out my brains.ย  I mean I like looking at the cute pictures of cows and hunting stuff, ๐Ÿ„ and seeing what my old friends from high school are up to, but so much of what is on there now is either advertising or abusively obnoxious political posts.

The weekend forecast continues to improve. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, a chance of rain before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 59. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 61. Maximum dew point of 40 at 1pm. Not a drop of humidity in that air, but that’s to be expected this time of year. Typical average high for the weekend is 54 degrees.

Spring is rapidly approaching, although there is going to be a lot of snow and ice in the mountains, and mud in lower elevations. I think I’m going to do something fun this weekend — maybe a good hike ๐Ÿšถand and some fishing on Sunday. ๐ŸŽฃ Depending on how nice it is on Saturday morning, I might go for hike on rail trail ๐Ÿš‚ although I’m not sure how early it will clear out or how early I’ll be out of bed.๐Ÿ›

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ when the sun will be setting at 7:41 pm with dusk at 8:10 pm. On that day in 2018, we had cloudy and temperatures between 47 and 33 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 60 degrees. We hit a record high of 90 back in 1976.

Two weeks from now I’ll probably be on my trip to the Adirondacks or Central NY, although I still haven’t requested the time off.๐Ÿ• I am on the fence where to go — I kind of would like to go to the Adirondacks and the North Country, but not if there still is a lot of snow and ice to deal with. The alternative would be a mix between Charles Baker and Stoney Pond State Forest, maybe heading south to Balsam Pond, hitting up several trout streams, and more rural rather then mountain country. I mean still have plenty of time to visit the Adirondacks before summer is over. I don’t want to deal with camping with snow and ice.

In four weeks on May 2 the sun will be setting at 7:56 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 48 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had hot, mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 90 and 45 degrees. Last year was the record high. Typically, you have temperatures between 65 and 43 degrees.

While it may not feel like it this week, ๐ŸŒทthe truth is much warmer weather is likely just around the corner. Ninty degrees days are not out of the question nor is heat and humidity although I hope things green up before then so there is some shade to enjoy outside by then. And maybe a few weeks without the black flies. ๐Ÿœ

Last night, I got talking to somebody about the plastic bag ban. They were worried about what they would use for trash bags, ๐Ÿ—‘ once single-use shopping plastic bags were banned. I got thinking about it some more — and pointed out they could wash out the trash cans like people did in the olden days, without any problem. Seems like a simple solution for a silly problem. I don’t get why they always have to have trash bag liners.

Probably when I have my off-grid property, I’ll use animal feed sacks for the kitchen trash that’s going out to the burn barrel (the stuff like wrappers, bottles and packages contaminated by food), and just either use bread bags or wash out the compost container. It’s amazing how many feed bags even small hobby farms end up throwing out. It just seems like there is much too much disposable, single-use plastic out there. ๐Ÿ›No sense paying for something your going to burn, after all.๐Ÿ”ฅ Maybe that’s the future, but I’m still focused on it.

After finding a plastic bag in the Pine Bush ๐ŸŒฒ then seeing a bunch more in the trees, I’ve really started to come around on this issue — they really need to go — as they don’t rot in nature without being burnt. Sure, I’m not happy with them charging paper bags, as I don’t always remember to have my reusable bags with me, but I’m also thinking that using a plastic milk crates, might actually be a much easier way to handle groceries. Reusable bags tend to get dirty quickly, and are somewhat flimsy, but if I could stack groceries in a crate that can be washed off, that might work really well. Groceries would be less likely to spill or get damaged when packaged in a plastic create.

Looking ahead, Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ is in 2 weeks, Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 2 weeks, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is a month away, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 6 weeks, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 11 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 3 months, August ๐ŸŒป is in 17 weeks and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 26 weeks.

March 30, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Save the Pine Bush Hike at 9:30 today. Four weeks to Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ. Cloudy and foggy and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜๐ŸŒ There is a southeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Monday around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Should be a nice mild morning for the Save the Pine Bush Hike over at the end of Madison Avenue Extension Barrens off of Washington Ave Extension at 9:30 AM this morning. ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿšถ๐ŸƒI wish there was more sun but so be it. At least it will be fairly mild today.

Today will have patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 66 degrees at 5pm. 15 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around May 3rd. Maximum dew point of 47 at 11am. Definitely mild but lacking sun. Breezy, with a south wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1986. 4.0 inches of snow fell back in 1911.โ„

This afternoon I plan to go shopping to pick up a few groceries , then I may go to the car ๐Ÿš™ wash ๐Ÿšฟ and then out to my parents house for Sunday dinner a day early. Should be a good, especially because I don’t have to work. Back in the office at nine o’clock tomorrow though for the marathon session. ๐Ÿข

The sun will set at 7:19 pm with dusk around 7:47 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 62 degrees. Breezy, 16 mph ๐Ÿƒ from the south. If it wasn’t so damp, it could be fire weather. Today will have 12 hours and 39 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Nice enough last night to sit out back for a while, ๐ŸŒƒ saw the stars and heard the spring peepers for the first time last night this year. ๐Ÿธ That’s a sure sign things are going to get nicer soon. Not a lot of stars though due to the clouds.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 49 degrees at 5am. 18 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 21st. You can almost leave open your windows tonight. South wind 13 to 16 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of 12 occurred back in 1923.

Tomorrow will rain, mainly before noon, then showers likely after noon. ๐ŸŒง High of 53 degrees at 11am. Two degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 3rd. Maximum dew point of 44 at 6am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Southwest wind 14 to 17 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny. The high last year was 56 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1998. 14.6 inches of snow fell back in 1997.โ„

Tomorrow should be a rather busy day at work. At least a long one. But then the state budget should be done. ๐Ÿ“ Hopefully with warmer weather and nicer days I’ll be able to go down to the park after work more often work then.

Maybe on Monday if I don’t have to work and I’m not dog ๐Ÿถ tired ๐Ÿ˜ด, I might get out fishing ๐ŸŽฃ but I’m not that hopeful on that front. Maybe the following weekend, I’ll have to see about that. Two and a half weeks from now I’ll probably head out camping and hit some trout streams up then for sure. โ›บ

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ when the sun will be setting at 7:51 pm with dusk at 8:21 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, cold, partly cloudy and temperatures between 50 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

Looking ahead, Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ is in 4 weeks, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 5 weeks, Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 7 weeks, June ๐Ÿน is in 9 weeks, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 12 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 15 weeks, Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš is in 16 weeks, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 21 weeks, Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ in 5 months and Average High Falls to 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ in 25 weeks.

March 28, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Today the Average High is 50 ๐ŸŒธ! Three weeks to Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ. Mostly sunny, around the freezing point at the bus stop near Valero. There is a South breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Not a half bad morning for late March.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 57 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 12th. South wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 85 was set in 1945. 14.2 inches of snow fell back in 1932.โ„ Fortunately, the Great Depression is over and today will be a much nicer day then back in the 1930s.

Today should be a nice day, maybe closer to sixty than the average high of 50 with lots of sun. โ˜€ The heat is shut off at least through Sunday night. The warm weather is closer today then farther away with each day creeping closer to those long summer nights. ๐Ÿ“™ Evenings down at the park โ›ฒ aren’t that far away nor days swimming ๐ŸŠ and paddling in the lake or weekend getaways to the wilderness. There is much to see and do during this upcoming summer months. ๐Ÿธ

The sun will set at 7:17 pm with dusk around 7:45 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 53 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 33 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Assuming that I get out relatively early from work tonight, which I frankly admit is unlikely, ๐Ÿ™I would be a good evening for sitting out back. Maybe not an awful lot of stars tonight but I’ll enjoy the fresh air assuming again that I wear the hoodie to stay warm.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly between midnight and 4am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 42 degrees at 1am. 11 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 28th. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy in the evening, which became light drizzle by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 0 occurred back in 1923. Probably too cold to sleep with the windows open, but I figured it would be a fairly cold day, so I left everything closed up this morning.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 55 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 7th. Southwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 85 was set in 1946. 5.6 inches of snow fell back in 1984.โ„

Wednesday wasn’t a half bad day, I took the 8:15 bus home ๐Ÿก. They got us dinner at work which was nice. Took the bus home, listening to John Denver. I don’t know why I’ve been playing his old records so much lately ๐Ÿ’ฟ but they touch something that is missing in my world of suits and ties. I know I have no real excuse for exhaustion except anticipation. ๐Ÿ˜‘

Another starry but modestly cool last night for my evening walk. ๐Ÿšถ I wasn’t sure if I would get home early enough to get out for the walk but I did. I wore my winter coat but it was unzippered the whole time walk. Now if it could have been nice enough to sit out back and look at the stars โœจ it would have been nice but it’s still March and quite a bit colder than I would have liked. But it got late quickly so after my glass or two of cider vinegar, and a slice of frozen banana ๐ŸŒ I retired to bed.

For the longest time yesterday I could not get my phone to connect to the Wi-Fi at work. ๐Ÿ“ฑ Not a really big deal but I’m always trying to save data so I have enough to use at home, and to get some podcasts to listen to ๐Ÿ‘‚ at home. It didn’t matter that much, hopefully today I can download more podcasts, although who knows how much time at home to listen to them. ๐ŸŽง There is always the radio I could listen to in bed.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 65. South wind 5 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 50 at 12pm. Sunday, showers, mainly before 2pm. High near 48. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees.

It looks like this weekend I’ll have to work, so I guess the questionable weather doesn’t matter much. ๐Ÿ‘”Who knows how much of the weekend I’ll be at work but maybe it will be the overnight shift on Saturday night ๐ŸŒƒ. At least I’m earning comp time that I can take off next summer should we have a heat wave ๐ŸŒŠ and I want to spend it at the Potholers.

I noticed one of my pants didn’t wash well last time or had something stained on it, so I’m putting it back in the wash, hoping it will clean up evenly. ๐Ÿ‘– Maybe laundry soap, I may have not set mom’s washing machine right. I’m probably going to go to the laundromat on Friday evening, assuming parking ๐Ÿ…ฟ there isn’t too difficult with all the drunkards taking up the parking spots as they go to the bar. ๐Ÿป

I often realize days and weeks are more difficult at work than others. But I’m committed to doing a good job and making a better life for myself. ๐Ÿก Life isn’t always easy or perfect but I’m dedicated to a better tomorrow. That said, I’m a bit concerned about the impact of government and private debt at all levels and climate change. I can work to defend my own life but the future ๐Ÿ”ฎ of our planet ๐ŸŒ and our country itself really is beyond my purview. Climate change is going to be so bad in the coming decades, within my lifetime which is probably almost half over.

In four weeks on April 25 the sun will be setting at 7:49 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 53 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 57 and 49 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 63 and 41 degrees. The record high of 89 degrees was set back in 2009. Should be camping season by then, โ›บwith a lot of greening up happening in the city.๐ŸŒฑ I really miss being out in the wilderness.

Listening to John Denver gets me thinking about Almost Heaven, West Virginia, ๐Ÿ’ญ where I will probably return to this fall to spend the balance of Columbus Day Week at this year.๐Ÿ Radio reminds me of my home far away. I love that state. There is a lot of WV I have yet to see and explore. Such a beautiful state. That’s a long ways away still but I still look forward exploring God’s Country. ๐Ÿ—ป
