Good evening! Rain and 43 degrees in Delmar. โ˜” There is a east-northeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear Wednesday around 1 pm. Kind of not a real nice evening. It was really coming down when I left work at 6:45 pm. I got home and was pretty tired but walked over to Stewart’s and got milk ๐Ÿฎ and cooked up some pasta and watched some YouTube videos. I was going to ride the bike, I’m at times feeling better but still achy.

May 12, 2019 Night

Good evening! Yup, still raining and 43 degrees โ˜” in Delmar. Talk about a cold wet ending to the weekend.

But it was a nice weekend especially on Saturday up at Hildervandt Vly and the wilderness back country of the Southern Adirondacks. I’m thinking of doing more day hikes like that and some overnights when it warms up a bit more and the black fly season is done. A nice starry night in the wilderness in the hammock would be wonderful. โ›บ

While it was interesting driving through Tribes Hill and Fort Hunter, the bridge ๐ŸŒ‰ between the two is pretty narrow when two pickup trucks have to pass on it. Then I managed to make the wrong turn in Schenectady County and ended up in Mariaville and ended up taking the Thruway back home. At least traffic was light and the more rural parts of Schenectady County is remarkably scenic.

Sunday dinner at the folks house, Mother’s Day was meatballs riggis which was pretty good. ๐Ÿฒ Always a fun ending to the weekend.

Tonight will have patchy drizzle with a slight chance of showers after 2am. When it’s not raining look for clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 40 degrees at 6am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 24th. Light northeast wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 2005.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 73% illuminated. The moon will set at 3:03 am. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is on Friday night with a chance of showers. The sun will rise at 5:35 am with the first light at 5:03 am, which is one minute and 6 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 26 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 9 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy drizzle with a chance of showers before 11am, then rain likely, mainly after 2pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 55 degrees at 2pm. 14 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 9th. East wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 68 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 2004. There was a dusting of snow in 1953.โ„

I was a bit annoyed with the amount of litter ๐Ÿšฎ I saw in the woods over the weekend. You usually don’t see as much in more remote country as I saw up at the campsites at Stewart Landing and Rockwood Lake. Hiking along NY 8 was pretty bad too. I didn’t pick up everything I saw in Rockwood State Forest but I did pick up the multiple six pack rings that were along the road. I get it – not really the consumers fault but a society awash in oil and the byproducts of it – plastic but still how hard would have it been to at least burn it completely or pack it out?

The long range doesn’t look that great for next weekend but the Lupine Festival might be fun. ๐Ÿ˜ž Next Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 69. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 51 at 1pm. Next Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 69. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 54 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 70 degrees. At least by then the temperature will return close to normal.

In four weeks on June 9 the sun will be setting at 8:32 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 24 minutes and 15 seconds later then tonight. Almost the latest sunset of the year only gain about five minutes on that. The record high of 100 degrees was set back in 1933.

Looking ahead, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 5 weeks, National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ is in 9 weeks (skinny dipping?), Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 3 months, Sunset Before 7:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 16 weeks, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 19 weeks and Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 22 weeks.

East Kill Valley

May 11, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 50 degrees with the moon overhead camping here at Stewart Landing. ๐ŸŒœ There is a north breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear Wednesday around 9 am.

Laying back in the hammock, listening to music, relaxing. ๐ŸŽถ A very nice evening for sure. I have all warm white lights hung up for a change, I bought one of the strings at an after Christmas sale. They are in some ways nicer than the colored strings. The hammock is nice, first time using it camping since Labor Day although it still fairly cold so I’ll sleep in the truck.

The truth be told I’m not a big fan of the campsites up at Stewart Landing as they are too closely spaced in my book for a true wilderness experience and they are muddy with too much litter but it was a nice day hiking back to Hilderbrant Vly and Glasgow Pond, finally spelled correctly. ๐Ÿšถ Ten mile round trip and the trail is lightly used, not too eroded although lots of flooding and mud holes due to the old roads being lower than the surrounding lands. I doubt I’ll ever come up here again but change is good as are new adventures. I have to say this was first adventure I’ve done in a long time I’ve truly enjoyed. I like being in the wilderness and doing something new and different for a change.

I’ve fallen into the trap of doing the same thing week after week but sometimes changing things up can make time go by slower,โณand make things more memorable and enjoyable. I mean that I like the potholers but I feel like I go up to Piseco-Powley Road and Moose River Plains so much it’s getting boring. I haven’t made any decisions yet but I really should do something different for my summer vacation and not do the same thing in the Finger Lakes National Forest yet again.

Once black fly season is done, ๐Ÿœ I’m going to do more wilderness lightweight hammock camping. โ›บ I would probably truck cap camp the first night driving up from Albany and on Saturday hike back in the wilderness with minimal gear – flashlight, hammock, can of something for dinner or frozen hot dogs, pan for cooking, phone for music, and a battery pack for backup.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 41 degrees at 4am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 27th. North wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1969. I don’t think we have to worry about ice tonight.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 62% illuminated. The moon will set at 2:27 am. The Full Moon whose name I forget ๐ŸŒ• is on Friday night with a chance of showers. The sun will rise at 5:39 am with the first light at 5:06 am, which is one minute and 9 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ I wake up so early with the early sunrise. Tonight will have 9 hours and 26 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 13 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain, mainly after 3pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 53 degrees at 4pm. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 4th. Southeast wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1881. There was a dusting of snow in 1996.โ„

In four weeks on June 8 the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 25 minutes and 10 seconds later then tonight. Remarkable to think June is only a month away. That weekend I might be up at Piseco-Powley Road and might do the potholers and maybe visit Little Falls. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 80 and 58 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 76 and 54 degrees. The record high of 93 degrees was set back in 2011.

Looking ahead, okay I remember the Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 1 week, June ๐Ÿน is in 3 weeks, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 6 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 9 weeks, Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš is in 10 weeks, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 15 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 4 months and Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 19 weeks.

Sheridan Mountain Beyond Devil's Clove

May 11, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! The Sunday before Mother’s Day. ๐Ÿšบ Next Saturday is Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ•. Partly cloudy, but clearing and 53 degrees โ›… up at Stewart Landing campsites in the Adirondacks. ๐Ÿ—ป There is a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. A bit chilly when the sun dips under the clouds, laying back in the hammock with the breeze blowing around. The skies will clear around 11 am.

At 4:15 pm Friday I decided to come up camping. โ›บ I had nothing packed or bought for food ๐Ÿฒ but I decided to leave work, grab my camping gear and head out. I figured I would beat the severe thunderstorm getting home โšก and then get packed while it was ongoing and from there after it was over, after rush hour head out of town. I stopped for some groceries and gas and went out to Stewart Landing. I got caught off at the same exit on the Crosstown Arterial in Albany I got rear ended on five years ago but this time I was able to avoid an crash though horns were mashed and brakes slammed. I may have urinated a bit in my pants over that. Yikes. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ People ask why I ducking hate motoring so much. The Thruway was completely blocked for a while due to a motorcycle crash, according to the CB radio ๐Ÿ“ป but after 15 minutes it freed up and I was moving. It such a ducking bad drive up here with smearing rain the whole way.

Because I had to shop, get gas and get packed, despite leaving work early, I didn’t get to camp until close to 8:15 around dusk ๐ŸŒ† but the campsite was fine except for the litter ๐Ÿšฎ, broken glass and thumb tack ๐Ÿ“ I had to clean up. A lot of litter around here I had to pick up which was annoying but the campsite is mostly cleaned up and I fixed up the fire pit. I’ll bring some of the litter home but the bigger stuff – burnt chair frame, burnt out car radio, lots of burnt wire – I’ll just toss in the pile of other debris back in the woods. It’s at least out of the way for now. I wish people wouldn’t litter – pack out your garbage. If something doesn’t burn fully, haul it out. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t scrap the burnt wire at least that was all over the campsite. Nobody wants to be tripping over wire or broken glass in the darkness.

Things are fairly dry up here ๐Ÿ‘ขbut there is a pretty deep and rocky mud hole on the driveway to the campsite โ›บ so I don’t want to drive through it unnecessarily to visit Little Falls today and I’m kind of annoyed about what happened yesterday driving up here. I just don’t want to hit one of those big rocks and bend or break a suspension component. Instead I’ll probably hike back to Hildervaldnt Vly from camp and enjoy the beautiful day in the wilderness. The sun is already charging the battery ๐Ÿ”‹ and I expect a good charge with all of the sun.

After I started setting up, somebody took the campsite just down the road, started a big fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ then packed up and left. Odd. That’s one of the reasons I’ve never camped down here as there isn’t a lot of space between the campsites – the nearest one is about 250 ft away. Not the mile plus of many of the Pisceo Powley sites. But quiet up here today, I can certainly listen to my music later on without bothering folks.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 57 degrees at 2pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 13th. Northwest wind around 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1911. .5 inches of snow fell back in 1907.โ„

The sun will set at 8:11 pm with dusk around 8:44 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 52 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 32 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 15 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 38 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 18th. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable in the evening. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1969.

As previously noted, next Saturday is Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 8:19 pm with dusk at 8:52 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 73 and 51 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 2017.

I should probably finish securing camp and head out on the trail. The hammock, sun and breeze are nice although I did just see my first black fly ๐Ÿœ of the year…..

Patroon Island Bridge Reflects Onto the River

May 9, 2019 Night

Good evening! Rain showers and 57 degrees โ˜” Breezy, ๏ธ18 mph breeze from the south-southeast ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 29 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. You can hear the wind blowing around. The skies will clear Saturday around 2 am.

I went over to John Wolcott’s house for a while to keep going through his files. ๐Ÿ“‚ I found a few interesting tidbits and a lot of other random stuff that both of us struggled to figure out. Never know what you will find in the archives. I’m more interested in contemporary history although lately I’ve not seen much of that in the boxes.

John was saying Another Save the Pine Bush person is donating their family land to conservation. ๐ŸŒณI think that’s a wonderful thing to do. If some day I own 50 or 100 acres of a mountain somewhere it would be nice to donate it to a state forest preserve after my time has gone and the house is burned to the ground and the foundation backfilled in. It’s not like I’m going to need it when my time is thru.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after midnight. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 52 degrees at 3am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 30th. South wind 15 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1958.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ’ with 39% illuminated with the moon setting at 12:58 am. The moon will set at 1:00 am. The First Quarter Moon will be tomorrow with mostly cloudy skies. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Friday, May 17th. The sun will rise at 5:38 am with the first light at 5:07 am, which is one minute and 11 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 33 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 15 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 5pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 66 degrees at 5pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 5th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 4pm. South wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. I think the Western Adirondacks may have more. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 73 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1970. 5.0 inches of snow fell back in 1945.โ„

I decided to call off the weekend trip. Saturday may be half decent but the inch plus of rain we may get tomorrow – especially in the Western Adirondacks – doesn’t sound real nice. โ›บ Unless a campsite is well drained, it’s going to be saturated as will all the wood for burning. ๐Ÿ”ฅ I am a little worried about the campsites at Stewart Landing being really wet, as I don’t think they are particularly well drained and there always is some big mud puddles back there, and honestly the ground is not really firm as snow has been gone from that area less than a month now. Plus parking tomorrow in the city with the tulip festival ๐ŸŒท would be a female dog ๐Ÿถ.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 62. Northwest wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Saturday doesn’t look bad but the woods will be so wet. Maximum dew point of 41 at 6am. Maybe I could hike Platte Kill Road in West Saugerties through the gorge? Sunday, a slight chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 58. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees. I’ll take it one day at a time I guess. I’m hoping now for better weather come Memorial Day Weekend.

I’d love to have a big ass fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ and drink some beer ๐Ÿป but things can wait until Memorial Day Weekend. Probably black flies will be bad that weekend ant ๐Ÿœ but that’s what staying up late is all about. Hopefully the ground will dry out by then. If

After reading that Bloomberg article ๐Ÿ“ฐ on wealthy hermits without wills I’m actually kind of fascinated by the topic – and hermits more generally. I know that I at some point should write a will ๐Ÿ“, especially as I acquire property and would like it eventually to be public land ๐ŸŒฒfor hunting and recreation. I really like the idea of the simple life, living in the backwoods without all the material crap of modernity. Maybe a 4×4 truck, al tractor ๐Ÿšœ and an ATV but duck a television ๐Ÿ“บ or home internet.

In four weeks on June 6 the sun will be setting at 8:30 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 25 minutes and 38 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 72 and 48 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 75 and 54 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1925.

I am thinking now about a June trip to Moss Island. ๐ŸŒผ It will be warmer than and maybe more wildflowers at that point. I believe Green Acres dairy bar ๐Ÿฆwill be open and I can grab a burger ๐Ÿ” after hiking and then camp โ›บ up on Piseco Powley Road and if it’s warm enough out cool off in the potholers.

Looking ahead, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 1 weeks, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 6 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 8 weeks, August ๐ŸŒป is in 12 weeks and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 21 weeks.

Fourth and final night at Chicken Co-op Rd

May 8, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 57 degrees. There is a north-northeast breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. With that breeze it’s kind of chilly this evening and it’s only going to be cooler come later tonight. I went down to the park for a while with a book ๐Ÿ“™ but left relatively early as it was a bit cool there. Reading an interesting book about the history of Tammany Hall, the club house where many of the most powerful democrats of the twentieth century met. I’m not really into contemporary politics but history is fascinating.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 38 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 18th. North wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight. I’m going to leave my windows open but I expect it to be cold when I awake. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1956.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ’ with 28% illuminated with the moon setting at 12:03 am. Kind of a pretty sliver tonight. The moon will rise at 9:30 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Friday night. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Friday, May 17th. The sun will rise at 5:40 am with the first light at 5:08 am, which is one minute and 12 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 35 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 17 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 63 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 27th. East wind 5 to 9 mph becoming south in the afternoon. That’s actually nicer than I expected. I’ll take it. Shitter weather for Friday but even that has improved a bit. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 82 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1979. 1.6 inches of snow fell back in 1977.โ„

I’ve been watching a lot more videos on UTVs and tractors ๐Ÿšœ lately. Utility tractors for landowners and small scale farming is a lot more affordable than you might think. If you’re not running a dairy operation, or something that requires pulling a big mothboard plow or a 30 ton manure spreader you don’t need a big John Deere 4050 (to say nothing of the real big machines some farmers run). Learning about the technology of farming and land management is fascinating, there are so many implents out there for folks who work the land. I live in the city ๐ŸŒ† but I eventually hope to move out and have my own land. It’s tough though, life may be expensive in New York but my family is here ๐Ÿ‘ช and to make the money I currently make in a small town would be difficult. I try to invest as much as I can for tomorrow though, so I can make the world I see on YouTube farm, homestead, an off grid channels an eventual reality. ๐Ÿฎ

I re-read my insurance policy and glass is covered under comphrensive insurance. ๐Ÿ“ƒ That said, it looks like from the quotes I’ve seen I could get better coverage for a lower price from competitors. I think I would want a better accessory coverage and maybe even higher liability if I can afford it. I could change mid term but I think I’d rather spend some more time researching and just stick with what I have now rather than pay for a different policy and wait for my existing insurance to be canceled and reimburse me. ๐Ÿ’ต I have my defensive driving certificate now, so I can use it but I’m not sure if they will give me a discount on what I’ve already paid. I actually noticed my premium from last September dropped despite my certificate expiring as I turned 36 in January and have 18 years of no crashes or tickets that are my fault.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 60. Sunday, a chance of rain after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees.

I am on the fence about the weekend. Friday still looks pretty yucky but Saturday is improving again. โ›… I just know things will be wet up north after all the rain and by now the black flies may be out. I need to decide by morning. I know if I don’t get out of town this weekend the next chance will be Memorial Day Weekend. I don’t know.

If I go up to Stewart Landing there is a darn good chance of there being nobody up at those campsites โ›บ but I wonder how soft the sites will be from all the rain. I don’t want to set up in the rain and honestly I’m not convinced there will be a lot of sun this weekend. Maybe it’s just better to wait for nicer, warmer weather.

In four weeks on June 5 the sun will be setting at 8:29 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 26 minutes and 4 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny skies, rain showers and temperatures between 64 and 48 degrees. Cold last year. Typically, you have temperatures between 75 and 53 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1925.

Looking ahead, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 4 weeks, Last Day of Session ๐Ÿ› is in 6 weeks, Altamont Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 14 weeks, State Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 15 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 18 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 20 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 89 weeks.

Tulip Bed

May 5, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 56 degrees ๐ŸŒ‰. There is a east-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 11 am. Not a terrible evening but I decided against sitting out back after my evening walk. Should be a great evening for sleeping. ๐Ÿ’ค

Sipping on some nice cold drink of water with a hint of that cider vinegar. ๐Ÿ I’m so glad I quit drinking alcohol. ๐Ÿป Budwiser is so tasty now that it’s a rare treat in the wilderness. Water is so much healthier and has zero calories. And cheaper. Maybe the slight acidity is bad for the teeth but I can’t imagine it’s any worse than soda. I do get regular check ups at the dentist and I still drink a lot of milk ๐Ÿฎ although not as much as I once did as milk is kind of expensive and a lot of calories.

All and all it was a pretty sucky weekend weather wise, ๐Ÿ’ฆ but except for running to the store I pretty much stayed home. I did get groceries so I’m not totally out of food like yesterday when I was stuck eating cream of chicken soup ๐Ÿ” dunked with stale bread. Hey, it had to be used up and I was in a cranky mood yesterday so I wasn’t going to go shopping. I figured sticking around home saves money. As does using up what is at home before buying more.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain before 10pm, then a slight chance of showers between 10pm and 1am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 49 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 21st. East wind around 6 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1969.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ’ with 5% illuminated. The First Quarter Moon is on Friday night with mostly cloudy skies expected. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Friday, May 17th. The sun will rise at 5:43 am with the first light at 5:12 am, which is one minute and 17 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 42 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 22 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 71 degrees at 5pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 20th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 4pm. North wind 3 to 5 mph. Should be a nice day. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1930. There was a dusting of snow in 1994.โ„

Tomorrow is another work day but with my south facing office ๐Ÿข the sun will be nice โ˜€. I love the views of the Heldebergs and Catskills from my office and with all the greenery from the spider plants ๐ŸŒพ its always nice. I’ll definitely walk outside to the Capitol.

Over the weekend I worked on some improvements to the blog that make it easier for me to locate old content for refeaturing and updating. After all these years of blogging it becomes hard to constant think up new things. ๐Ÿ’ญ

I won the eBay auction for the hand drill ๐Ÿ”ฉ I plan to use for drilling holes in quarter inch luan plywood for building LED signs. Minimum bid $8, even with shipping I think I got a fair deal – certainly cheaper than buying new and much higher quality rool. I am thinking my first project will be a USA red white and blue sign for use at camp.๐Ÿ’ก I’ll probably just run it at five volts USB power with everything in parallel. If I drive the LEDs at 15 mA I can run 30 in parallel and draw about 1/2 amp at 5 VDC or 2.5 watts.

I also ordered two more HC-05 Bluetooth modules and a USB to serial adapter ๐Ÿ”Œ from China to replace the one I burnt up this weekend. Still haven’t paired the two together I have but I’ll figure it out eventually. I also played with the waterproof temperature sensor a bit today. I got to get it now working with the esp32 that drives my VMS display and run the wires outside so I can measure the outside temperature. โ„

I started thinking more about what life would be like without an automobile ๐Ÿš˜ this weekend. I’ve thought a lot about the savings but less about the costs – ride sharing fares, more bus fares, car rentals, laundromat, paid trash pickup vs hauling my own, and even having to either order online or buy from Hannaford rather than buy cheaper at Walmart. The big savings seem less than at first. Well I guess the same thing is true when I study car insurance ๐Ÿš™ options – big savings don’t materialize by shopping around if you want to maintain decent coverage. The way you save big bucks is by dropping the amount of coverage you have which increases your risk especially in case of severe accident. Being that I don’t own a house nor have my money tied up in property it’s less safe from liability lawsuits so I want to have decent coverage. ๐Ÿ’ต Plus I think it would mean a lot less nights in the wilderness.

Right now, next weekend looks pretty nice. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 64. Maximum dew point of 46 at 6am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 64. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 44 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees.

If the weekend forecast remains true, ๐Ÿ‘ I’m still thinking about Piseco Powley Road and then Little Falls on Saturday. โ›บ Things could change before the though. I know that the gates are closed north of the Potholers but the lower part of the road will be open and hopefully won’t be too soft. Or I could consider other alternatives.

In four weeks on June 2 the sun will be setting at 8:27 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 27 minutes and 14 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had humid, partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 78 and 60 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 74 and 53 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1895.

Looking ahead, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 1 weeks, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is a month away, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 6 weeks, Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป is in 2 months, National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ is in 10 weeks, Sunset Before 7:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 17 weeks, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 20 weeks and Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 23 weeks.
