Good evening! Clear and 53 degrees at the Delmar. 🌟 Calm wind. Going to be a cold night. I thought about closing my windows but the heat is off and it’s not expected to get below freezing in Albany. I’ll just enjoy the hot coffee β˜• come morning.

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 42 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 8th. Calm wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1959.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon πŸŒ– with 70% illuminated. The moon will set at 11:46 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Friday night. The Hunter Moon 🌝 is on Saturday, October 12th. The sun will rise at 6:38 am with the first light at 6:09 am, which is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„ Tonight will have 11 hours and 38 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, sunny 🌞, with a high of 71 degrees at 3pm. Typical for tomorrow. Calm wind. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1946.

Doug Bullock’s Speech to Save the Pine Bush was quite good. πŸ“’ No bull horn this time. He will be missed in the county legislature – he’s still on the Working Families line but I think most people know it’s time to move on. He can continue his activism in new ways. I helped him out on his first campaign 12 years ago but the democrats in his district apparently wanted a change – and his progressive advocacy never won him much in the way of corporate contributions.🌲I don’t agree with Doug on every issue but he’s a good guy in politics, for all the right reasons. ✊

So it looks like the proposal to re-power the ANSWERS plant and generate electricity is officially dead. 🏭 They’re going to tear it down instead build more solar on the plaza and in Oneida County and replace more of the lighting with solid state fixtures. It was so weird that they announced it during the Save the Pine Bush Dinner πŸ“’ while Doug Bullock was speaking a two days before the climate march. Doug has been very vocal about opposing the plans as has the folks in PAUSE and the No Fracked Gas pipeline people. 🌎 At this point, we really shouldn’t be investing in more fossil infrastructure and the truth is that they didn’t really need the co-generation plant – it was wish list type thing πŸ“ƒ. Can they build the hundreds of acres of solar needed to go 100% solar for the Plaza? Only time will tell. A hundred million dollars once allocated to build the co-generation plant πŸ’΅ can buy a lot of panels. I do wonder though about outsourcing the panels to Oneida County.

I probably would have been involved with Doug’s campaign but I don’t get involved in politics much any more. 🏀 Some of its my work takes a lot of my time but also I’m less interested in politics than in years past. I’m more interested in self improvement and investing in my own future. πŸ’° Those who fight the good fight are doing God’s work but I don’t want to be part of the messy nature of politics. I just want to buffer myself from the harm of climate change and eventually own my own land out in the country in a freer state. 🐷

In four weeks on October 16 the sun will be setting at 6:12 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 48 minutes and 27 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 56 and 36 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 60 and 39 degrees. The record high of 88 degrees was set back in 1947.

Tomorrow evening I’ll run to the store and get a camp chair, and maybe boots πŸ‘’ and get packed up for the weekend. I plan to head north as soon as the Pine Bush hike is over on Saturday. Should be a really nice evening.

I’ve gotten a few maps and done some more research πŸ—Ύ on the New River Gorge. Most of the other places in West Virginia I’m quite familiar with so I don’t expect to need much research but I did also get a map for hiking Dolly Sods. I got to get out my big West Virginia Monongahela National Forest map – I think I know where it is in the crawl space – and do some more planning. I have one of those free maps from AAA of West Virginia Roads outside of the National Forest but I’m thinking about getting a better quality Rand McNally map too for better details. This year’s trip I want better planned then in 2017 which was kind of a mess as I was dealing with my mom being in the hospital πŸ₯.

 Out Onto The River

September 17, 2019 Night

Good evening! Clear and 61 degrees at the NYS Capitol, waiting for the bus to take me home. 🚏 There is a north-northeast breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 45 degrees. A fairly nice autumn evening.

I went over to John Wolcott’s house for a while this evening. πŸ” No real interesting historical documents were found tonight. Mostly duplicates of existing documents. Definitely gets dark though early this time of year.

I finally took off the week of October 5th for my West Virginia trip. πŸ‚ Should be a nice week, assuming the weather is decent. Probably with September closing out so warm and sunny it will be rainy and cold by then but do be it. Might still be some leaves left by then in the High Country of West Virginia.

I’m going to be home 🏑 too late to fix the solder joint on the display in my bedroom πŸ“Ÿ but it’s working fine now that I’m back feeding power using a USB cable to the microprocessor. Tomorrow is the Pine Bush Dinner, so I’ll be home even later tomorrow.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, sunny 🌞, with a high of 70 degrees at 3pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 21st. The record high of 91 was set in 1891.

That should be another nice autumn day, πŸ‚ before the heat builds in for the weekend. That said, even a hot late September weekend really isn’t that oppressive and I doubt it would be super humid. I do look forward to at getting one final night up at Pisceo-Powley Road before winter.

In four weeks on October 15 the sun will be setting at 6:13 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 48 minutes and 39 seconds earlier then tonight. I hear Gulf Brook Road to Boreas Pond is now open. 🚀 I’m thinking about checking that out come mid to late November assuming that there is no snow β›„ up there. I bet by then all of the crowds will be gone, especially on a week day. Might be the same trip that I also hike back to Pharoah Lake and maybe camp along the Vanderwhacker River in Newcomb. β›Ί That could be a nice adventure for late November.

I was looking below and fifteen weeks is all that’s left this year of 2019. ⏳ New Years Eve 2020 will be hear before you know it. Time sure goes fast. I can’t believe we are already contemplating the end of the decade. Okay maybe not the decade but the 2010s are nearly done and the 2020s are just around the corner. The way I look at it – the next day may be problematic for our county but I’m entering my prime earning years – my 40s and if I work hard and save I’ll be much closer to my goals by the end of the 2020s. I might toast the end of the 2010s in the wilderness this year, it depends on how much snow there is at that point. πŸŽ‰ Maybe camp at Cherry Ridge in Brookfield if it’s still snow free at that point?

September 14, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 63 degrees in Delmar, NY. πŸŒƒ There is a south breeze at 6 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 61 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 3 am.

Spent some time working on some new maps for the blog. πŸ“ And fixing and improving some code maybe also watching a YouTube video in the background that I previously downloaded. πŸ’» I’ve been trying to stay off of the internet more lately, although I did go down to the library for a bit. Also I got to dig through some more government data as I’d like to make more graphs πŸ“Š for the blog in the coming weeks. Wanted to clean the bathroom 🚿 but that didn’t happen nor did I spend much time studying the map of West Virginia in preparation for my vacation in less than three weeks now.

I was going to go out for my evening walk 🚢 but it gets dark early and I’m not that big of a fan of walking after dark these days. I worry a bit about stepping funny in the dark streets especially out back of the high school and injuring my ankle. That would really ruin my trip. Shopping didn’t happen either but I didn’t really need anything right away – I might be able to hold off until Thursday then buy groceries for the weekend before I head up north.

Sounds like a nice day. ☺ I’m still thinking about hiking Windham High Peak tomorrow πŸ—» but it depends on how early a start I get. Otherwise I’ll just do Bennett Hill on my way out to my parents house. I like to do at least one mountain now to get the blood pumping each week in preparation for day hikes at Dolly Sods. 🚢

When I was over at my sisters house she has all those big TV πŸ“Ί and computers. It’s just not my thing. I do have a fairly big computer monitor but I don’t mind not having internet at home. It makes it easier to code and work without distraction. I have zero interest in all that commercial stuff. Its nice just having that away from home. Saves a lot of money too.

September 13, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 58 degrees in Delmar, NY. πŸŽ‘ Definitely bright outside tonight under the Harvest Moon. There is a south-southeast breeze at 11 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 46 degrees. Barometric pressure has dropped a bit but it’s still quite high, around 30.40 inHg.

Today went well despite being Friday the 13th, although I didn’t get out until after 5 pm and ended up taking the local home 🏑. I had dinner – tuna salad – and went for my evening walk 🚢. Came home watched a few YouTube videos I downloaded earlier in the week at the library. I got the button working on my phone πŸ“± again – just loose or corroded contacts on the phone.

Tomorrow though seems rainy β˜” or at least cloudy ☁ but that’s fine, I’m helping my sister move. 🎁 Sunday of this week I’m thinking about hiking Windham High Peak, it’s been a few years. πŸ—»

Next weekend is starting to look really nice. 🐦 Bird watch hike a week from Saturday and then I might go to the Adirondacks for an overnight. β›Ί I probably won’t go all the way to Moose River Plains but it might be nice enough for one more weekend at the potholers. 🏊

Good evening! Partly clear and 60 degrees in Delmar, NY. πŸŒƒ Calm wind. The dew point is 53 degrees.

After dinner – a quick dinner of ravioli and cheese 🍝 I went for my evening walk 🚢 then down to the library to download some movies. πŸŽ₯ I then came home, put my wash away, had a glass of cold apple juice 🍏 and retired to bed fairly early. I also ironed m clothes and got ready for a busy day at work tomorrow. πŸ‘•πŸ‘–πŸ‘”

I am so happy I found my Bluetooth adapter 🎧 as I really like being able to watch movies at home with the headphones on so I’m not bothering my neighbors but I’m also not tethered my laptop or my device. I can ride the exercise bike 🚲 or lay in bed watching a movie.

Rolling Farm Country Along NY 8

September 8, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 54 degrees in Dormansville, NY. πŸŒƒ Calm wind. The dew point is 51 degrees. The skies will clear around 10 pm.

It was a nice weekend with lots of hiking 🚢 and helping out with trail work. I enjoyed hiking the Harding Road Trail, it might be fun to do again when the leaves are off the trees again. But before it’s icy, obviously as there is some steep drop offs from the trail. Definitely a good trail and not the crowds of other trails, especially if you park on Whites Road Parking Area πŸ…Ώ and hike back from there. I should also think about hiking the Sleepy Hollow Horse Trail 🐴next time. Saves gas compared to driving up into the mountains and gets the heart β™₯ pumping blood and working well. Harding Road used to be a horse trail but after some of the original stone bridges washed out after Irene it was downgraded to hiking only.πŸŒ€ Parts of the trail are pretty rough at least for horse back and kind of tough on my ankles and knees with the long downgrade. 😩 Gawd I’m getting old. I need to hike more.

I noticed one of the Bear Hunters 🐻 I passed up there, harvested a bear later in the evening and posted it on NY Hunt Club Facebook group. Good for him. Another person I knew from High School also apparently got a bear up there with a handgun a few days ago. There really are a ton of bears around North South Lake Campground – I’ve seen more hiking around there than any other part of the Adirondacks or Catskills I’ve seen which is backed up by the DEC harvest statistics. πŸ”« If I had land I would Big Game hunt but I have no place to drain a deer or bury guts.

Parents cooked chicken for dinner πŸ” and I’m staying overnight in my truck. Im hoping to get a good night’s sleep, it’s good sleeping weather and lately I’ve not been sleeping well. I got non stick spray today at the store after hiking and I’ll either get sweet corn 🌽 tomorrow or maybe at the Farmers Market on Wednesday. 🚜

I went grocery shopping, ending up at Walmart. 🍜 I bought lots of groceries but forgot frozen corn 🌽. I really should just get fresh sweet corn and maybe something like tomatoes πŸ…. That would be a good treat. Sure not as easy as opening a bag but more flavorable. I was hungry and my freezer was bare but I should be good for a while. I also gased up Big Red β›½ so his tank is good and full.

I think tomorrow I will get a fairly early start and hike the Harding Road Trail 🚢 above Palenville and the Kaaterskill Clove. Probably start from White Road Equestrian lot just because it’s a bigger parking πŸ…Ώ area for my big truck and then hike up along the escarpment. Some good elevation gain and hopefully some nice views and less popular than other trails. πŸ“·
