October 9, 2020 Morning
Good morning! Friday before the Long Columbus Day Weekend! πβ΅ Five weeks to Average Night Below Freezing π. Partly sunny β and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind.
Cool morning but definitely really sunny. π Hard to complain about the weather this morning. Out for my morning walk πΆπ» enjoying the weather before I get busy with work in about an hour. β They have the one down tree cleaned up on the sidewalk and the power is back on. Not having data service and working remotely was so disruptive to the workflow yesterday. π
Today will have patchy frost before 9am. Otherwise, mostly sunny π, with a high of 63 degrees at 4pm. Typical for today. Southwest wind 3 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1949. There was a dusting of snow in 2000.β
Going to be another busy day at work. Overnight the pile of work only grew bigger. β° Maybe not as big as the mountain size pile of manure they’re composting down the road to spread with the box spreader π© but pretty big. π But it will get done today or maybe tomorrow.
Solar noon π is at 12:43 pm with sun having an altitude of 40.9Β° from the due south horizon (-29.9Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 5:46 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (256Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west (262Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:24 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:50 pm, which is one minute and 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. π The best time to look at the stars is after 7:25 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies π and temperatures around 58 degrees. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 8 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 17 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over today.
Tonight will be mostly clear π, with a low of 48 degrees at 1am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 25th. South wind 7 to 9 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1980.
Tomorrow will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5pm. Mostly sunny π, with a high of 76 degrees at 3pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 7th. Maximum dew point of 58 at 4pm. South wind 13 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1939. 0.8 inches of snow fell back in 1925.β
It sounds like it will be a very nice day. π I am not sure of my plans, I’m thinking about going out to my parents house for Saturday dinner. π The colors are just starting pop in the hill towns. Not sure how do they’ll be next week in Madison County. πDepends a lot on how much wind they get and the elevation.
Looking ahead to Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 64. North wind around 9 mph. Maximum dew point of 47 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees.
I think the weather will actually be better than in Madison County or up north. π I am thinking though with rain β coming Monday, Columbus Day β΅ I’ll just stay close to home, maybe walk out to Five Rivers π¦ for a couple of hours.
Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Average Night Below Freezing π when the sun will be setting at 4:34 pm with dusk at 5:04 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2019, we had cold, mostly sunny and temperatures between 26 and 14 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 49 degrees. We hit a record high of 69 back in 1964.
