October 7, 2018 Morning
Good morning! Happy Sunday. Four weeks to Daylight Savings Time Ends ๐. Cloudy with rain showers and 61 degrees in North Syracuse. โ There is a northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐. The dew point is 59 degrees. No morning walk for me today, too wet.ย ๐ง The skies will clear Tuesday around 9 am.
Today will be scattered showers, mainly before 1pm. Cloudy โ, with a high of 61 degrees at 10am. One degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 59 at 10am. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. It became humid as the day progressed. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1963. Not a really nice day by any stretch of the imagination.
The sun will set at 6:34 pm with dusk around 7:02 pm, which is one minute and 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ At sunset, look forย clouds โ and 60 degrees. The dew point will be 55 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 24 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be scattered showers, mainly after 3am. Mostly cloudy โ, with a low of 54 degrees at 1am. 11 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 56 at 7pm. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30%. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies with some clearing in the early hours of the next day. It was humid. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1964.
That french onion soup I made up with croutons, fried onion bits, and covered with cheese was super delicious ๐ but now I still have really bad onion breath. But it was a good change, being that I am on the road, and very limited only having a refrigerator and microwave, no stove or freezer. Lots of can goods I must admit — but then again I rarely have canned goods at home, if only because you can’t burn cans up completely in the woods.๐ฅ Recycling in urban areas is a great thing.โป
I was thinking that I may have lowered the headlights, but from driving last night I was quite happy with all the additional light I was shining on the road, ๐กand not in other drivers. I will have to take it out on the highway or better yet at some point on a rural road, to see how it handles at 55 MPH, and if I have them aimed high enough to see out far. But for most of the suburban driving I’m doing now, I really appreciate the extra light on the road.
This morning, I was listening to John Rich’s Shutting Down Detroit song on the radio,ย thinking about how much the world has changed over the past decade.๐ It’s still a really good song and the music video has a very powerful message. Whatever you think about conservative populism, you have to be unhappy about how powerful institutions are pushing around and harming average people.๐ฆย One thing of hope I do have about the Trump administration is it’s de-legitimatizing government power,ย and making people and communities more self-reliant.ย The government isn’t friend, it’s not out there to help you when you need it.
It seems hard to believe that we are only four weeks out from the time change. But I’m actually kind of glad, because I want to get this election behind me — that is successfully — as soon as possible so I can get onto my road trip. ๐ I hate being in the city all of the time — that brief respite I took to Southern Onondaga County was so wonderful, hiking up Jones Hill and doing some of the North Country Trail, even if the air had such a pungent smell of manure ๐ฎ because the farms are hard at work fertilizing the ground now that the corn and hay has been chopped.๐ If that’s not a sign of autumn, I don’t know what is. November will be wonderful! I can’t wait until I am out in Allegany County in a few weeks.
Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Daylight Savings Time Endsย ๐ when the sun will be setting at 4:51 pm with dusk at 5:21 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2017, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 50 and 33 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 53 degrees. We hit a record high of 76 back in 1994.
