October 6, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday from here on vacation. Next Sunday is Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚. Times of sun, clouds and even a brief rain shower and 55 degrees at the Allegheny National Forest. โ›…There is a south breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees. When the breeze dies down and sun comes out, it’s quite pleasant, just wearing a t-shirt. I did rush for a while to get the tent and tarp up this morning so I would have a place to hide out from the rain. I’m not expecting real nice weather the next two days and actually hoping they get a good soaking rain in West Virginia. The skies will clear tomorrow around 7 pm.

I was a bit hung over this morning ๐Ÿ˜ซ as I must have done a bunch of drinking ๐Ÿป after the long drive yesterday and being so cold. Its really much too long of a drive from Albany to the Allegheny National Forest, especially if you insist on taking US 6 through Pennsylvania instead of Interstate 86 in New York. It was a nice drive but except going through the Western Catskills on Interstate 88 and US 6 through the Susquehannock State Forest outside of Coudersport near the Lumber Museum the colors aren’t the best. Moreover, I was in a bit of a rush after having to make multiple stops for the lantern mantle that is still not burning real bright ๐Ÿ”†.

Don’t get me wrong, I like driving US 6 but it can be slow east of Wellsboro to say nothing of the back roads between Vestal and Camptown. ๐Ÿฎ I do like the variance in the land – the small dairies and rough often overgrown pastures of the Endless Mountain Country and then the traditional Appalachia land forms around Galenton and then the long plateaus and oil stripper rigs of the Allegheny Plateau.

Today will have showers likely, mainly after 5pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 66 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 1st. Maximum dew point of 57 at 5pm. South wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1900. There was a dusting of snow in 1954.โ„

I expect a quiet day to today. I went for a walk down the road to the power lines, observing nature and trying to get a better idea of what weather was coming. I’ll do some reading ๐Ÿ“– and if the bugs ๐Ÿ› get bad, or it gets cold and rainy either go in the tent or the truck cap. I doubt I’ll sleep in the tent but I wanted a warm shelter in case it rains and is really cold and windy. So far I’m not really seeing weather like that in the forecast.

The sun will set at 6:49 pm with dusk around 7:17 pm, which is one minute and 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. Still much later than in Albany. Nearly 21 minutes later to be exact. ๐ŸŒ‡ But the mornings are dark. At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 63 degrees. The dew point will be 57 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 31 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 52 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 23rd. West wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies. It became humid as the night progressed. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1986.

As previously noted, next Sunday is Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 6:38 pm with dusk at 7:06 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 55 and 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 81 back in 1930.
