October 3, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Two weeks to Northern Zone Regular Season 🦌. Bow started on Thursday. 🏹 Partly cloudy and 43 degrees in Delmar, NY. ⛅ Calm wind. The skies will clear around 7 am.

Kind of a cold start this morning. ⬜ Maybe I should have closed my windows before bed because the middle of the night it was pretty cold. But when I get up in the morning I’ll have some coffee ☕ and then take a hot shower 🚿.

I kind of slept in 💤 because it was such a cold and cloudy morning. 🌥 A little more sun as the day progressed but not a really nice day.

Today will have patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 59 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 17th. Maximum dew point of 47 at 10am. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 52 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1967. There was a dusting of snow in 1974.❄

I thought about driving 🚘 out to Beebe Hill / Harvey Mountain in Austerlitz but I’m not sure how nice of a day it will be. It’s probably just far more economical to hike out to Five Rivers this afternoon. 🐦 And bird watch there. Maybe next weekend if things arent too busy with work I’ll go out to Beebe Hill.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:45 pm with sun having an altitude of 43.2° from the due south horizon (-27.6° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. Much less sun this time of year. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 5:57 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (259°). 📸 The sunset is in the west (265°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:34 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:00 pm, which is one minute and 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 7:35 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 56 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 11 hours and 37 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 37 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 23rd. Light and variable wind. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 41 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1948.

Sunday I’m going out to the folks house. Maybe hike at Thatcher Park although higher locations might be better for enjoying the colors. 🍂 I am thinking about doing the same road hike I did at Partridge Run. Or maybe a different loop. ➿ I am considering my options. Then go out to my parents house for Sunday dinner. 🍲

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Northern Zone Regular Season 🦌 when the sun will be setting at 6:09 pm with dusk at 6:37 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain and temperatures between 52 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 59 degrees. We hit a record high of 85 back in 1947.

That weekend I’m thinking of heading out to Madison County. 🐮 I don’t want to go Columbus Day Weekend ⛵ to avoid the crowds at Stoney Pond or Cherry Ridge although I admit by then the colors may be past peak. 🍂 Who knows what the weather is going to be like.

I am continuing to work on improving my blog theme. 🏗️ I keep finding little things especially with the mobile version. But I’m generally happy with how things turned out.
