October 12, 2017 8 AM Update
As we head into the nine o’clock hour the sun is peaking out a bit. Going to be a nice mid October day once the sun comes out a bit more with the mercury around 65 degrees later. Hard to complain once the sun comes out in force and dries up the rain. Not much rain is expected for a while except maybe a passing shower on Sunday.
The sun will set at 6:16 pm with dusk around 6:45 pm, which is one minute and 39 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for mostly clear conditions and 60 degrees. There will be a east breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be clear, with a low of 40 degrees at 8pm. Typical for tonight. Southeast wind 3 to 6 mph. In 2016, we had mostly clear skies with more clouds in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 44 degrees. The record low of 24 occurred back in 1981.
Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Thanksgiving when the sun will be setting at 4:26 pm with dusk at 4:57 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2016, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 37 and 27 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 45 degrees. We hit a record high of 72 back in 1931. Back before my time but with the jet stream in the current position its possible that we could break that record. A few years ago we had a pretty warm Thanksgiving.
I’ve decided I’m going to try to get next week off from work. Then I will probably go down to West Virginia and Virginia. I want to see more of the Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge Parkway. I might also spend some time in Pennsylvania and maybe even Western New York. I don’t know. It all depends on the weather and what I feel like doing. I almost would rather spend more time at one location then packing up and traveling every day, especially with the nights as long as they are now.
