October 10, 2016 Morning

Good morning! Happy Columbus Day. Partly cloudy and 33 degrees at Jones Hill Overlook at Apulia Station. There is a north breeze at 7 mph. A bit chilly, and while Big Red’s DIC said it was it was close to freezing, I did not see much frost on the fields.

Up on Jones Hill the colors are fairly muted, not quite peak. But I had to get down here on Columbus Day because I don’t know if the leaves won’t be well past peak by the next week with a hard frost expected on Tuesday night. But that is to be expected in mid October. The nights have been quite mild lately but they won’t last like that.

Today will be partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high of 51 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees below normal. Definitely a cool weather for Columbus Day. Very clear too with a maximum dew point of 33 at 11am. Northwest wind 7 to 15 mph. The record high of 89 was set in 1939. The sun will set at 6:28 pm with dusk around 6:56 pm, which is 1 minutes and 40 seconds earlier than yesterday. Today will have 11 hours and 15 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have patchy frost after midnight. Otherwise, clear, with a low of 32 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees below normal. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. The record low of 22 occurred back in 1943.

We are now one week from when the Average High will be  Below 60 when the sun will be setting at 6:17 pm with dusk at 6:45 pm. The average high temperature is 59 degrees, with a record high of 85 in 1947. That said, this week will have several autumn days with highs below sixty. I guess things balance out over time.
