Starting out this Monday with blueberry pancakes and fake sugar-free maple syrup. Soon I’ll get the real stuff with more calories when you can get it fresh, but I’m also okay with less calories especially this time of year when I’m not able to ride in most days of week – today excepted.
Finally going to be good for riding in today. As the bike trail still has a lot of snow and ice I’ll probably either take Corning Hill or Delaware and Southern Boulevard to bypass the snow and slop covered part of the trail. It’s great exercise and I avoid paying the bus fare at least one direction. Almost enough light in the evening to ride both directions, certainly will be that case in a few weeks after today — probably after Presidents Day.
Washed my truck and stocked up the pantry last night. Big Red will be parked for probably through Sunday, so I figured best to wash off as much of that de-icing crap that had made the whole undercarriage and rusty rocker panels a bright white color. Not only is 13 years until my 55th birthday come Wednesday, Big Red is now nearly 13 1/2 years old. How fast time goes by. Had a nice dinner with the folks, and slept relatively well although I had to get up and run to the bathroom a few times last night. It was nice seeing the folks, and celebrating my upcoming birthday as I don’t really know how many more chances I’ll have to do that with them getting older and older quickly. Mom is 76 and Dad 78, and neither is in real good health. People ask why I’m so anti-sugar and opposed to processed foods, and it’s that I know how awful it is to health. πβοΈβ°οΈ Honestly, I’d rather smoke cigarettes and marijuana occasionally up at camp with a cold beer then eat 90% of the crap most Americans eat daily. That said, I don’t approve of a pack a day of smokes or that daily glass of wine. Pot can make you stupid and lazy, but it’s also fun floating down the East Canada Creek singing along with the Dire Wolf.
Today for lunch is going to be sweet potatoes that I sliced thin with tofu, broccoli and mushrooms. Plus lots of fruit for snacks throughout the day at work. I try to keep my lunches primarily vegetable based, as I often have more carbs at home with the pancakes and johnnycakes I made a home. Tonight I will soak some beans to cook in the morning, freeze some of them, and use them with various means. I don’t like to have beans constantly though, despite being a good source of fiber and protein as they can be a bit too much and make you gassy especially if you have a lot of lentils too. But it’s good to fuel your body good, especially in an era when so many people are eating such awful crap, then lying to themself saying it’s healthy to eat organic lard and sugar throughout the day.
Should be a busy but relatively quiet week. Continuing to load data and fix addresses in the systems at work, next week I will probably request the latest data from the Board of Elections to further enhance what we have in our system with the latest records. Plan a big load of state employee and housing data today among other things. It should be interesting to see if I will hear back from Parking Management on whether or not I can get a “Commuter Only” parking pass for $8 a pay period for unlimited CDTA bus rides. I think if that was an option, I would use the bus a lot more to explore. It sounds silly, but I actually don’t ride the bus as much as I could if it cost nothing extra to board the bus. I know the bus fare is capped at $3.90 per day or no more then $1.30 per ride, but it’s still money spent now that steals from my future, i.e. land, livestock and toys. I am just thinking between the bike and bus I could spend a lot more evenings exploring parks.
