May 31, 2017 Evening
Good evening! Thunderstorms rolling through and 73 degrees in City of Albany. There is a south breeze at 11 mph with gusts up to 22 mph. The dew point is 58 degrees.
Taking a brand new bus home. The commute is somewhat delayed by a crash on the South Mall Arterial ramp. At the four o’clock rush hour there was bad tie ups. But I’ll make it home in due time. I thought I could go to the Town Hall forum on climate change but I already know plenty about it. I might go to the car wash and some stores to pick up supplies and return beer cans and plastic bags. I thought about going down to the park but not with everything being so wet and risks of downpours later.
The sun will set at 8:26 pm with dusk around 9:00 pm, which is 48 seconds later than yesterday. Evenings have finally gotten nice and long. At sunset, look for partly cloudy conditions with possible thunderstorms and 68 degrees. The dew point will be 57 degrees. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph.
Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely before 11pm, then isolated showers between 11pm and midnight. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 56 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 58 at 6pm. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2016, it got down to 57 degrees with mostly cloudy skies. The record low of 35 occurred back in 1945.
First Quarter Moon tonight with 48% illuminated. The moon will set around 1:56 am. The First Quarter Moon will be tomorrow with partly cloudy skies expected. The Full βStrawberryβ Moon is on Friday, June 9th. The sun will rise at 5:19 am with the first light at 4:45 am, which is 30 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight will have 8 hours and 53 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 15 seconds over last night.
Tomorrow will be mostly sunny, with a high near 75. West wind 6 to 11 mph increasing to 13 to 18 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 32 mph.
Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 70. Maximum dew point of 48 at 8pm. Sunday, rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 69. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Maximum dew point of 53 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 75 degrees.
In four weeks on June 28 the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm, which is 10 minutes and 56 seconds later then today. In 2016 on that day, we had thunderstorm, thunderstorm rain, rain, mist, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 83 and 66 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 81 and 60 degrees. The record high of 99 degrees was set back in 1901.
Looking ahead, Flag Day is in 2 weeks, Summer is in 3 weeks, Mutts Day is in 2 months, Last Day with Average High of 80 is in 12 weeks, 7:30 PM Sunset is in 3 months, Harvest Moon is in 14 weeks, 6:30 PM Sunset is in 18 weeks, New Years Eve is in 7 months, Coldest Day of Year (Avg. 14-30 degrees) is in 32 weeks and Inaugeration Day 2021 is in 190 weeks.
Kind of a slow day at work but a lot of little projects going on. Nothing too major, I guess it’s the calm before the sheeeeet show known as June. Before you know it summer will be here. I’m looking forward to summer vacation in the Finger Lakes and plenty of time at the beach.
So I have off that long fourth of July weekend. Leaving midday on that Friday before the long weekend. Probably going to spend the weekend at Moose River Plains. I hope they reopen the fire tower before then but if not there are many nice things to do that weekend.
Bought a $11 set of color changing LED lights. This should allow me to change the color inside of the truck cap to red, blue, or a dozen different colors and hopefully will be brighter than the accent bar I currently have in there. I saved extra switches for future expansions, so adding them should be simple. I probably also will reinstall the blue accent lights I removed when I rewired the truck cap up.
With all the recent rains the Normans Kill is really raging. At least tomorrow won’t be so wet. Because of the delays in the plaza, traffic is a little more backed up on Southern Boulevard. But I’m sure I’ll make it home.
Enjoy your evening, hopefully you won’t get stuck in a downpour!
