May 3, 2019 Morning
Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Two weeks to Pack Rat Day π. Three weeks to Memorial Day Weekend kicks off. πΊπΈ Cloudy and 51 degrees at Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. β There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. π. The dew point is 48 degrees. The skies will clear Sunday around 11 pm.
No hope for sun for a while. β I brought my rain coat β and I fully expect rain this weekend. At least I’ll save money staying home this weekend. My finances haven’t fully recovered from April, although it helps that May is technically a three-paycheck month. But I have projects to do around the apartment and if it gets nicer on Saturday afternoon I might walk out to Five Rivers. πΈ Even the long-range outlook doesn’t look great for Mothers Day Weekend π·. It’s possible the next weekend I get out of town will be Memorial Day Weekend, to fight the black flies. π
Today will have showers likely, mainly between 9am and noon. Mostly cloudy π¦, with a high of 63 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 27th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 3pm. South wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 83 degrees. Summer weather. The record high of 89 was set in 2001. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.β
The sun will set at 7:58 pm with dusk around 8:29 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. π At sunset, look for rain π§ and thunderstorms π© and temperatures around 60 degrees. The dew point will be 53 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 11 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 26 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely before midnight, then a chance of showers. Cloudy π§, with a low of 53 degrees at 4am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 54 at 6pm. South wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became humid as the night progressed. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1985.
I put in a bid for an old hand drill on Ebay. I am going to try bidding the minimum or close to it on a few different drills, after each auction expires as I think getting one used is probably the best deal. π© Not a lot of places sell hand drills anymore, and a lot of the new ones I’ve seen online are just junk with plastic gears. But a hand drill is quiet, which is good for working on building light up signs late at night without disturbing the neighborhoods. It would be a good tool to have.
I’m continuing to research car insurance but the truth is motoring is expensive in New York. I’ve seen differences in the estimates in the quotes I’ve been getting but they are fairly small, when you compare similiar policies, not bare-bone, almost zero coverage the policies that websites suggest to you to make them seem like your saving money. It looks like they are fairly standardized and I’ll put them in a spreadsheet and compare on each line for the list of 3 to 5 top line companies. π Then I’ll look for reviews online of the services they offer and a full breakdown of what each line means. I have to September to decide. I want to have affordable insurance but I want to protect the money I’m saving for my off grid home from lawsuits should a terrible wreck occurs and I give some five year old permanent brain damage. Information is power. π€
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Pack Rat Day π when the sun will be setting at 8:13 pm with dusk at 8:45 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly cloudy and temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 2017.
