May 18, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Monday! Back to work from home on this rainy start to week. Next Monday is Memorial Day πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ. Rain and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. β˜” Calm wind.

Today will have showers likely, mainly before 11am. Cloudy 🌦, with a high of 67 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 9th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 6am. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 73 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 2017. 2.2 inches of snow fell back in 2002.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 67.1Β° from the due south horizon (-3.8Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:34 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (292Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (298Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:15 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 16 seconds with dusk around 8:46 pm, which is one minute and one second later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:29 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies πŸŒƒ and temperatures around 60 degrees. The dew point will be 46 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 44 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 57 seconds over yesterday.

I have a three o’clock and five o’clock meeting πŸ•’ so I expect a long day at work. I also have a ten o’clock. I’ll probably go down to the library and work down there as the internet is much better there.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph after midnight. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1981.

Hot and sunny for Memorial Day Weekend. Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 56 at 12pm. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 75. Maximum dew point of 53 at 6pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 72 degrees.

I might do some tent or lean to camping this weekend β›Ί but with all the good campsites taken I’m thinking I’d still be better off on planning my bigger trip for the following weekend. The final weekend of May may be in the 80s, which might be good for camping and cooling in a swimming hole but maybe not in the potholers if the road is yet to be rebuilt.

That said, I want to hook up that fuse box πŸ”Œ this weekend and also get my camping gear ready. By Thursday or Friday I’ll decide which days the following week I’ll take off. I’d like to take 3 or 4 days for a long weekend then.

As previously noted, next Monday is Memorial Day πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ when the sun will be setting at 8:20 pm with dusk at 8:54 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 73 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 72 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1981.
