March 27, 2020 Morning
Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Two weeks to Good Friday βοΈ. I am thinking of I get Good Friday off that would be nice to tack another day on the weekend for you road / camping trip. βΊ I normally socially distance when I travel and camp as I like having big fires π₯ , listening to music πΆ and shooting guns π« and I can wear gloves when I pump gas. β½ Trust me, you know my preferred music type, you want to social distance me.
Partly cloudy and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. β There is a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. π. Incredibly beautiful morning. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow 2 am. βοΈ
Such a nice morning. π Too bad it’s a work day and while I’m not stuck in an office I am sure projects will be coming my way so I can’t get too far from my phone π± and laptop. I am actually getting a work laptop for official duties which is good because I am not a big fan of using my personal laptop as I don’t like mixing work and personal stuff. I certainly don’t want to use a work VPN on my personal computer for obvious reasons. π»
Today will be mostly sunny π, with a high of 58 degrees at 3pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 14th. Northwest wind around 8 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1998. 6.7 inches of snow fell back in 1959.β
Solar noon π is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 50.2Β° from the due south horizon (-20.6Β° vs. 6/21). First above fifty degrees in the sky – that should lead to some nice warm spring days. A six foot person will cast a 5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 6:39 pm with the sun in the west (269Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west (275Β°) starting at 7:13 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:44 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. π At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent π Moon in the west (261Β°) at an altitude of 30Β° from the horizon, 248,511 miles away. π The best time to look at the stars is after 8:18 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies π and temperatures around 50 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 31 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be mostly clear π, with a low of 29 degrees at 6am. One degree below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 26th. I’m surprised the average low is now thirty – true sign that spring is coming. πΈ Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 3 occurred back in 1923.
Tomorrow will rain likely, mainly after 5pm. Increasing clouds β , with a high of 54 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 5th. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 55 degrees. The record high of 85 was set in 1945. 14.2 inches of snow fell back in 1932.β
Looking ahead to Sunday, rain before 8am, then showers likely, mainly after 11am. π¦ High near 51. Southeast wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 50 degrees.
I seriously thought about heading out of town this weekend βΊ but I think Saturday will be quite cloudy βand I would be taking down camp in the cold rain. Plus I really should work to save money – between car insurance and rent I have $1,100 leaving my bank account today,πΈ although fortunately next Tuesday is a pay day.π° That said, I owe New York State over $300 in two weeks π΅ between the quarterly tax payment and the usual credit card bill, as I rarely use cash π³.
That said, maybe next weekend. π The long range looks very good for Friday through Sunday, a week from now βΊ and trout season π£ will be open. Question is how busy I’ll be during those days. Not sure, but if it’s relatively quiet around the office π’, we’ll home office I could take next Friday off.
But as previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Good Friday βοΈ when the sun will be setting at 7:32 pm with dusk at 8:01 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 50 and 32 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 56 degrees. That might also be a good weekend to camp βΊ. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1922.
