March 24, 2021 Morning
Good morning! What day is it? Kind of a dreary Hump Day, of course. But if you look in the distance, the weekend can be seen. And it’s going to be warm enough to have the windows open, which is nice. Maybe summer is just around the corner after a few more snow storms. Two weeks to 7:30 PM Sunset π . Mostly cloudy and 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. β There is a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. π. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Tuesday around 3 am. βοΈ
Not feeling half bad this morning, after getting my COVID-shot yesterday. No real pain, although I was a bit achy this morning, but I’m not sure if it’s residual lyme or from the shot. After some coffee this morning, feeling pretty good and I went for a nice little walk. I really enjoy having those windows open and the fresh air. I can’t wait until this becomes an every day occurance, although by then things will be getting kind of warm and sticky some days. But maybe by then I can either be working from the Adirondacks or my air conditioned office.
Today will have a chance of showers, mainly after 3pm. Otherwise fairly dreary cloudy π¦, with a high of 60 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 18th. South wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 1976. 5.5 inches of snow fell back in 1956.β
We had a few sprinkles when I went for my morning walk, but for the most part it’s just kind of a dreary day. We could use some rain but I am not sure how much we will get. While the lack of rain of makes things a lot less muddy, it’s not good for things to be dry this early in spring. And it looks like the end of the month will be even drier, unless of course we get that snow storm that might graze or us hit us next week. I guess we could live with one more snowstorm. In a month, at least in the city, we should be seeing some hints of green, if this year is anything like normal.
Solar noon π is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 48.9Β° from the due south horizon (-21.9Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 6:35 pm with the sun in the west (267Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west (273Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:13 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:40 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds later than yesterday. π At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous π Moon in the east-southeast (115Β°) at an altitude of 53Β° from the horizon, 238,324 miles away. π The best time to look at the stars is after 8:14 pm. At sunset, look for rain π§ and temperatures around 56 degrees. The dew point will be 46 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 21 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over yesterday.
Yesterday, I walked down to the library and worked outside for a while, but the replacement battery I installed in my laptop last summer is already giving me problems. It was listed as a “genuine” HP battery on EBay but when I got it, seemed suspicious like a factory-reject. But it worked for a while but now it’s not holding a charge very long. Unfortunately, I’m not finding a new one from HP direct, so I might have to look somewhere else. But I want to hopefully get something that behalves better. Some of the problem is Linux doesn’t always properly shut off, and that leaves the battery over-discharged.
Tonight will have showers likely, mainly before 10pm. Cloudy π§, with a low of 48 degrees at 6am. 19 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 18th. South wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2020, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 0 occurred back in 1875.
Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. π Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 55. Sunday, showers likely, mainly after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 53. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 49 degrees. Mild for sure. Not sure if this is the weekend to go north.
