June 30, 2016 8 AM Update

As we head into the 9 o’clock hour, we have very pleasant conditions on this last day of June. Sunny and 67 degrees in Delmar. There is a south breeze at 3 mph. The dew point is 57 degrees. Basically very pleasant weather.

Today will be sunny, with a high near 84. Three degrees above normal. While the mercury climbs the dew point will be heading the opposite way, producing nice comfortable conditions. West wind 3 to 6 mph. The record high of 98 was set in 1964, while everybody was listening to the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean, and taking the nearly brand new Adirondack Northway to Lake George in their Chevys.

Tonight the sun will set at 8:37 pm with dusk around 9:11 pm, which is 8 seconds earlier than yesterday. Today will have 15 hours and 15 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 39 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 59. One degree below normal. Calm wind. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1978. Before you know it, a high of 45 will feel warm. Get out and enjoy summer before it becomes an endangered species. Too much demand.

Tomorrow at this time I hope to be on the way to Moose River Plains. I thought about Woodhull Lake but I think those campsites will fill up quickly and I don’t know if I want to drive all the way up to Utica then back up and over. I might go up to the Moose and spend time in Inlet so I can swim at the developed beach at Limekiln Lake and get ice cream and check my phone and conduct any business necessary. I haven’t decided if I will take the Adirondack Northway to the Moose.

On this day in 1971, Ohio ratifies the 26th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, reducing the voting age to 18, thereby putting the amendment into effect. Also in 1934, The Night of the Long Knives, Adolf Hitler’s violent purge of his political rivals in Germany, takes place. Fortunately, we only have obnoxious rhetoric in that vein in our country today.

There are 8 weeks until State Fair Opens when the sun will be setting at 7:39 pm with dusk at 8:09 pm. The average high temperature is 79 degrees, with a record high of 99 in 1947. Summer ain’t over yet.
