June 26, 2018 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 53 degrees. Another pleasant evening not as cool as last night. Firefly artificial lights I have projecting out back but it’s really too cool for the real thing. Nice virtually full moon tonight, although officially the Strawberry Moon 🍓 is tomorrow. Maybe two inches of rain on Wednesday and Thursday then ungodly hot but I’m hoping it will be somewhat reasonable for camping at least with ample cold beverages and the potholers.

I went down to the town park for a while and read for a bit, 📚 and probably played on my phone more than I should have. I actually took a second look at the book Hidden Hidden America: From Coal Miners to Cowboys, an Extraordinary Exploration of the Unseen People Who Make This Country Work
Book by Jeanne Marie Laskas. At first I wasn’t sure I could get into the book but now I’m starting to really enjoy it. I should go down to the library and get some other books to read. Maybe I should try the Albany library for a change. Their book selection is different and not as yuppiefied as Bethlehem.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ☁, with a low of 60 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 55 at 6am. South wind around 8 mph. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1970.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon 🌔 with 99% illuminated. The moon will set at 5:00 am. The Strawberry 🍓Full Moon 🌕 will be tomorrow with heavy rain to block out most local moon viewing. The sun will rise at 5:19 am with the first light at 4:44 am, which is 24 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 8 hours and 42 minutes of darkness, an increase of 23 seconds over last night. Nights are already quickly getting longer. But summer is hardly over yet.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly after 3pm. Partly sunny 🌞 , with a high of 75 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 59 at 4pm. South wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies. The high last year was 71 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1941.

This weekend forecast continues to call for a scorcher. Saturday, mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 93. Maximum dew point of 67 at 8pm. 😎Sunday, sunny and hot, with a high near 96. Maximum dew point of 72 at 6pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees.

So I have Friday and Monday off from work. 😎I am sure smart people would have said I should have taken Monday and Tuesday off and got an extra long weekend with Independence Day but I’m not planning on getting a camping permit and three nights in the wilderness is fine. I might drive up on Thursday night but I’m inclined to skip that as the woods will be wet after all of Thursday’s rain and I don’t want to fight traffic. 🚗Ever since that crash I was in four years ago, I really don’t enjoy fighting traffic.

Having Friday off I can get a nice campsite early on and set up for three nights without a permit. Then spend lots of time in the potholers all four days.β›Ί I guess I have enough time I could go to Moose River Plains but with the heat I’d rather have the nice cold potholers to chill out in. Getting home on Monday means I can install that two way switch on my truck on Independence Day and have enough time to unpack💼 and get ready to head out of town the following weekend maybe to Schoharie and the Mine Kill pool, especially if the heat wave lasts well into July. 🏊

I like camping and having a good fire but I think three nights is plenty for me, especially with the heat. 🌲🌳🌻🌼After four days in the potholers my skin even with sunscreen will be scorched and probably I’ll look like a prune. But it still will beat Albany.

In four weeks on July 24 the sun will be setting at 8:23 pm,🌄 which is 13 minutes and 39 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had rain, drizzle, mist, cloudy skies and temperatures between 72 and 58 degrees. That was my summer vacation last year. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1941.

Looking ahead, More Night then Day 🌌 is in 13 weeks, Election Day 2018 🗳️ is in 19 weeks, Average Night Below Freezing 🌌 is in 20 weeks, Cyber Monday 🛍️ is in 5 months, Christmas 🎅 is in 26 weeks, Boxing Day 🥊 is in 6 months, New Years Day 2019 🎉 is in 27 weeks, 36th Birthday 🎉 is in 31 weeks and Election Day 2020 🗳️ is in 123 weeks.
