July 25, 2016 Morning

Good morning! I here that back in Albany it’s a Monday but I don’t care, I’m on vacation. Cloudy and 73 degrees in Burdett. Occasionally the sun peaks out but it’s still pretty gray. Rumbles of thunder and black sky  to the north. There is a southwest breeze at 8 mph. The dew point is 65 degrees.

Even though I’m not sure if we will get any rain here, I got all the paper, firewood and candles tucked away should we get those thunderstorms that are rumbling in the distance. I’m going to stay in camp for now until the thunderstorms pass then head down to Watkins Glen later in the day for supplies, maybe a short hike in the gorge, and an afternoon swim at the state park. Taughannock and Robert Treman State Park will have to wait until tomorrow. Enfield Glen swimming will certainly be closed today due to the turbidity caused by a fresh rainfall from the thunderstorms we are likely to get this morning.

But if we get rain, that will be a good thing as it is so bone dry. I don’t know, with the south west breeze the thunderstorms may push north. Whatever happens I’m ready.

Today will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 1pm and 3pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. They really could help us out with the drought if they drop a quick half inch of rain like has already happened in the western Finger Lakes. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high of 90 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees above normal. Southwest wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 70 at 12pm. The record high of 97 was set in 1963.

The sun will set at 8:33 pm with dusk around 9:06 pm, which is 59 seconds earlier than yesterday. Today will have 14 hours and 40 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 1 minutes and 58 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming clear, with a low of 67 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal. West wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 67 at 6pm. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1976.

0.2 inch of rain expected between Monday 9am and Monday 7pm. 0 inch of rain expected between Thursday 8am and Thursday 1pm. Within the next four days, a total of 0.2 inches of rain is expected.l

We have some muggy weather coming up. Monday 9am – Monday 10pm. Maximum temperature will be 90 degrees, a heat index reaching 94, and a maximum dew point of 70.

On this day in 1965, Bob Dylan goes electric as he plugs in at the Newport Folk Festival, signaling a major change in folk and rock music. The crowds boo and his. Not very respectful. In 1993, The Saint James Church massacre occurs in Kenilworth, Cape Town, South Africa. Liberals use it as an excuse to take away people’s gun rights in Australia, which weren’t protected by an active gun culture or second admendment like in America.

There is 1 week until First Day of August when the sun will be setting at 8:26 pm with dusk at 8:57 pm. The average high temperature is 82 degrees, with a record high of 101 in 1933.
