January 15, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy National Bird Day 🐦! Birds the word. Although some say Bird Day was January 5th? Gosh who knows, so many special holiday.Β Two weeks to my 36th Birthday πŸŽ‰. Happy birthday to me! Ain’t I special or at least old. More and more gray, every day. No I don’t use coloring. Yeah, I still wear my cowboy hat and enjoy the wilderness and burning things as much as ever.

Cloudy with snow flurries, the air smells like wood chips and barnyard, they’re spreading down the road and 17 degrees in Delmar. Calm wind. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 11 am. 🌑️ It’s nice living close enough to the city to catch the bus to work but also only be a traffic light or two from the open countryside.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 31 degrees at 2pm. One degree above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around January 23rd. West wind 3 to 6 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 21 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 1995. 13.4 inches of snow fell back in 1983.❄ Right before I was born.

The sun will set at 4:47 pm with dusk around 5:18 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly sunny skies πŸŒƒ and temperatures around 31 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 38 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 22 degrees at 3am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 4th. Maximum wind chill around 24 at 6pm; Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph after midnight. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 14 degrees. The record low of -16 occurred back in 1971.

Yesterday was an ungodly long day at work so early in January, πŸ’Ό but sometimes that happens. I’m still making money and earning comp time, so maybe I can take off some time in February or April for either some ice fishing and camping or a road trip. 🎣 Being busy in the winter isn’t that bad of thing, and the bus got me home last night despite being rather tired.

By the time I got home last night cooked up some dinner and retired to bed. πŸ’€At least the week is going by quickly. Or so I hope. Pine Bush dinner tomorrow, Thursday is the lecture at the Discovery Center on climate change that I got tickets for but might not be able to attend if the weather is bad. They’re talking snow starting tomorrow night. I burned the Xubuntu installer to a flash drive and I’m thinking it won’t be until the weekend until I have time to upgrade my laptop to the SSD. πŸ’ΎΒ I do think I will also buy the board to fix my broken headphone jack and probably also replace the DVD drive with the the old hard drive to expand my storage to 2 TB so I have enough room with all the video I’ve been producing lately for the blog. πŸ“Ή

My post about pigs last night got a lot of discussion,Β πŸ–Β but I’ve always had a lot of interest in agriculture. I’m not interested in getting tied down to the land right now, but eventually, when I have saved more money, gotten closer to retirement and can move to a place closer to my views in an off-grid cabin, producing some of my own food on the land, and making them most of that is important to me.Β But for now I’ll continue to travel, spend my weekends in the wildernessΒ and continue to being a professional that works in the big city.Β πŸŒ†

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until 36th Birthday πŸŽ‰ when the sun will be setting at 5:05 pm with dusk at 5:35 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 39 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 54 back in 2002.
